If someone would have told me I would be binge watching youtube videos of two blokes and a dog drifting down a canal I would have told them to get out of my office.
😂😂😂😂😂
It is the best!
I never tire of watching you guys. I could listen to Colin’s history & fun facts for hours, plus Shaun’s chuckle gets me every time and puts a smile on my face. Of course Otis is a honey.
Thank you so much, Kathryn x
l do find Colin easy to listen to, the info he gives is brilliant.
You two are without question, the kindest, most patient and respectful people! This world, especially here in the US, could learn a thing or two from you. Thank you for the history lessons and for making me laugh! Love you both! 💞🥰
Awww, thank you so much! Stay safe!
I agree. I love to learn about history and England’s history really fascinates me.
I LOVE A LITTLE NARROWBOAT - BY PAM AYRES
I love a little narrowboat, I love the old canal,
Imagining the tales these ancient waterways could tell,
I love to work the lock, those oaken gates so firm and strong,
With know-alls up above to tell you what you're doing wrong.
I love to see the native creatures busy at the bank,
The otter and the water vole, the terrapin and mink,
And peering in the water, into shallows green and still,
To see somebody's goldfish from the kitchen window-sill.
I love to moor along the bank and hear the gentle rain,
To cook a meal and watch the world beyond the window-pane,
Little bobbing moorhen chicks, the mallard and the coot,
Exhausted lovers hoping that their effort's bearing fruit.
I love the ancient bridges, every keystone, every corbel,
The singing of the little birds, the chirrup and the warble,
To feed a lonely swan, so perfect, white as alabaster,
Who struck me with his wing; observe my collar-bone in plaster.
I love to meet the other folk who use the waterways,
The walkers and the fishermen on sunny languid days,
We drift beside the towpath and we breathe the summer's breath,
Till roaring motor-bikers come and frighten us to death.
I love the inland waterways and if it's in my power,
I'll just keep on a-sailing at about three miles an hour,
And when I see that final tunnel, into it I'll glide,
I'll raise my yachting cap and see you on the other side.
Amazing!
I know I said it before but I love the editing in your videos, the sound is even and consistent throughout. I love how when music kicks in, its at the same volume as you two speaking. ❤️❤️❤️ Just terrific videos all around every time!
Thank you so much!!
So nice to see you guys. Cheered me up loads. I’m in hospital waiting to have heart surgery so was feeling down. Haven’t seen my partner Shaun for over a week due to COVID restrictions. Look forward to your next upload. x
OMG! I'm so sorry! I couldn't bare to be without my Shaun for a day, never mind a week. Best of luck with the surgery 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
14:13 I could watch Otis do that little head tilt all day ❤️
🥰🥰🥰
Yet another WONDERFUL vlog! I ALWAYS love the history (See Shaun, some people DO love the history bits, haha!) and really appreciate all the research you do, Colin! Especially enjoyed the info on how the older tunnels were built over 200 yrs ago!! Drone footage is awesome as well! Otis is becoming a proper narrow boater now - adorable and very chill on board! Thanks for all the hard work you both put into these vlogs! Stay safe & keep on lovin' life! Love & Hugs to you both and a BIG cuddle for Otis! 💕🐶
Thanks so much, Kathy!
After a s***y week you have just made me smile, thanks Guys, love to you both and a cuddle for Otis
Our pleasure!
Great vid..lads...those stone chips on the boat side must of been so anoying as you keep your boat in mint condition...
Yes it was
25:26 minutes of pure unadulterated entertainment/infotainment. You guys just get better and better in direct proportion to the length of Otis's ears. Thanks for all the work that goes into your program....it shows in the finished product. No other mere canal vlog comes anywhere close.
Thank you so much, Peter!
Thank you for your brilliant videos, your daft moments and showing us our beautiful country.
Glad you like them!
aren't fart noises and Justin Bieber the same thing?
Aha! Good one 😂
Aaaand we have a winner! 😂
Now when I see trains I say "train" thanks to your videos😁
😁
Really enjoyed the combination of light and music. The misty mornings are glorious. Early morning has always been my favourite time on the water. Very well edited. While I know you’re a bit uncomfortable with attention, you do have a bit of a cult following. This will inevitably lead to people getting excited. ...the price of fame. I could be that mad woman....except I’m not mad, nor a woman and I’m in 🇨🇦. Er....skip it...lost my train of thought....be well...Chris🤪🇨🇦
Many thanks!
Mad woman 😂
Hi Colin and Shaun,
I have just found your U tube series on narrow boating the inland waterways of England this week and I am hooked.
You have got it all. I was born in Ireland and now live in California. I was in New York before I was ever in London. The heartland of England I thought was all industrial and shrouded in grimey fog. So I followed the Sun. Your journeys through the infrastructure of the canal system has me in awe on many levels.
First of all the Civil Engineering feats of both Design and excution is simply amazing. considering the tools they had to work with
and the vision. The Energy that was expended to create all these systems through out the country. The fact that it is still operational today is extrodinary. My respect for the individuals who built it is boundless.
You have opened up my perception of rural and industrial England in a whole new way. I have started to keep a note pad beside my laptop to write down the placenames and points of interest as we go. The pace of the Silver Fox is perfect.
I am looking forward to future journeys as I catch up on all the previous episodes.
Now I would like to compliment you of your production skills .The Photography is excellent. The editing is excellent. The content is excellent. The Humour is excellent. Your an amazing couple and your kindness ,love and respect for each other is evident.
Well done
Your honesty sharing you journey with Asperger"s is heartfelt and gives space for others to speak on their issues and find help.
The fact that it is just you two ,the narrow boat, Otis and the Heartland of England and its History.and modern communication technolegy is telling this wonderful story answers and asks so many questions .Your work is worthy of a Thesis. The Energy and Drive ofthe 18 th Century is examined from the 21st.Century.
your attention to detail is amazing.
Did I mention the Music choices Whow!!!!!
Guys keep enjoying what your doing.
Looking forward to journeys to the north country, Scotland, The Grand and Royal Canals in Ireland.,TheErne, The Barrow navication. It keeps going and going.
What equipment do you use to Film and edit. I am a Dinasaur but would like to try documenting things in my own life that
might interest other people. Now I'Ve got to figure out Patreon etc.
Thank you again. Stay safe and looking forward to next Fridays post. Eamonn
Thanks so much for a lovely comment, Eamonn.
We use a Sony AX-700 and a couple of GoPros for filming.
I so enjoyed this week's Vlog because now that the clocks have been put back and everything's so dark and dreary in London it's lovely to remember the bright 🔆 and sunny autumn. I can remember loving history in school but it could be quite dry, but I'm sure I would have adored having a teacher like you to teach the more obscure parts of English history. Thanks to all three of you Foxes for a smashing ride along. Lots of love. Stephen.
Aww, cheers, Stephen. This was only a couple of weeks ago too 👍🏻
So funny story we rented a narrow boat in Falkirk in 2017 we had an amazing time although there were a few times where we hit a bridge or ran aground but our biggest snafu was trying to turn around in the Edinburgh queue. My husband actually fell off the boat. We had some nice folks rescue the poor American tourists. It’s a memory I’ll never forget but certainly a fun time. Can’t wait to do it again.
Oh no! 😂
My Dad kept barge horses and tugs. He worked on the Thames, River Lea and Regents Canal. We had a stables/workshop under one of the railway arches on the Fenchurch St. Station line in Stepney by the Rotherhithe tunnel. He was a clever man and even built a set of lock gates. I remember being taken out by him to the river Lea where he was building a tug he designed and made himself and a water gypsies narrow boat was moored nearby. I had a very happy couple of hour’s playing with their children who were great fun. A lovely memory
Wow! Nice one 👍🏻
Friday night is Canal Boat Night! Thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the chance to take a more leisurely look at the barracks than you get on the train! Otis is definitely growing and now looks a seasoned boat traveller. With all the talk of not going to Braunston, I was convinced that it was the Foxton stoppage that you needed to get past by 2nd November. Wherever you get to by 2nd November, I hope that it is beyond the planned stoppage. We await with interest.
We're on track!
If you got into difficulty in them parts, would that mean you'd be in a 'Braunston Pickle'?
😂😂😂
7:24 haha. I love how Colins "TRAAAAAAINs" 100% synchronized with my "TRAAAAAAIN"... I've known you guys for 2 days and I already say TRAIN out loud when I see one :) and english isnt even my native language.
That's awesome! 🤣👍🏻
That's alright that your not into Roses and Castles, but I'm in love with them! Also love your channel from Canada and hope to join you on the canals for 2022.
Yay! Thank you!
Subscribed - I hate narrow boats, I find them slow and lame, but you guys are so great, and the videos are educational, fun and inspiring. Really great and refreshing to listen to after a tough day.
😂👍🏻
The time will soon come when you will need some kind of alarm system to warn you both of any crazy "fox fans". Great vlog guys!
Now! I need one now! 😂
Thanks for making my day cheered me up on these uncertain times
The vlog helps immensely! I love it! Colin, the history is totally interesting and Shaun, your giggle is infectious!! Thank you for what you do!!🥰
Colin, I have to say, I am such a transportation history geek and I LOVED your description of the 2000 years of transportation history all right there! Totally cool to this canal/old road/train geek!!
Wow, thank you!
G'day Colin and Shaun. Wow an amazing narrowboat cafe. I am learning so much about the UK canals and the history of the places. The UK going into lockdown. Stay safe guys. Thinking of you both.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi just found your videos by chance and I have never been interested in narrowboats but you two are making me watch your videos. You are so funny and I love how you two get on with each other and I love how happy you are on your narrowboat. Please keep the videos coming you two make me laugh so much. And I love your narrowboat. Take care
Welcome aboard!
Love your vlog. Been a very calming and reassuring watching experience during these physical distancing days. As we live in the United States, it’s also been wonderful and reassuring seeing that there is a decent world beyond our borders! Hope you both do fine during your new lockdown. We live in Northern California. So between the pandemic, fires, and poor air quality your vlog is a delightful jewel every week. Thank you and best wishes.
Love that! I hope things improve for you in the US
We never hired before getting our first boat but I’ve never looked down on hirers as like you say we all have to learn and even regular boaters are not perfect. I’ve got a Buckby Can which I won in a competition.
Nice one!
The Queen should have put you guys on the honours list.
🤣
Love the way you, Colin, make Shaun laugh and that makes you laugh, a great thing after all the years you've been together, very special. Otis is getting very inquisitive, but did I see him with a tea towel in his mouth, wonder what your training him to do. Thank you for learning all the history etc and making it interesting xxx
The tea towel is for his teething. It's his comforter 🥰
Every time I watch your show, (yes, I called it a show because it's so entertaining) I see Colin so professional and eloquent then, I watch the outtakes. Buahaha! Great show guys, don't change a damn thing! One of these days, I'm going to get over there and I'll meet you in person, maybe help with a lock or two and just enjoy! You three keep it up! Scratch behind Otis's ear for me and keep having so much fun!
Haha! The least professional! Takes so long to get it right.
Sat in my kitchen working from home …. This is playing on my IPad, I walk back in from the living room and Justin Beaver is playing… it took me a few minutes to work out why…
🤣🤣🤣
...please act a bit more enthusiastic....Shaun: ...🤔...😅😂🤣, wonderful 😁😂
😂😂😂
How doez the song go....you're simply the best, better than all the rest. Thanks for continuing to put up a post each week, it takes a lot of work and planning. Much appreciated. 🙂⚘
Glad you enjoy it!
We have become avid followers of your blog over the last 3 months. We live in Northampton so are local to Crick ,Braunston and Stoke Bruene, we particularly enjoy your Ariel shots.
That is awesome! Thanks, Roger.
Glad I stumbled across your channel. Two top blokes and a great escape for me when watching. Brings back some great memories of when I was younger and my late Dad owned a narrow boat. Oh and you set my Alexa off twice playing Justin Bieber! 😁
haha! Nice one 🤣
Those clips of Otis' little head peaking up over the canvas are adorable. That face... Cheeky little boy!
Such a darling! 🥰
My Alexa has just started playing "Justin Beiber" thanks for that Colin 🤣. Loving your channel and I'm addicted x
Love that!
Could Otis be any cuter? I just love watching you guys!
No, he can't get cuter. He's already at infinity on the cuteness scale. I think he should get his own channel.
@@andrewwmitchell I think you may be right...perhaps "Canine Canal Adventures"? :))
Aww, thank you! Yeah, he's definitely a cutie!
Images of Otis are great. Love the head over the side, looking at the camera. Again.... Love the aerial shots. Now I have more of an idea of how Braunston Junction looks, and also of two narrowboats passing in a crowded space. For me, just adds a bit more content and orientation to the journey (along with your Google maps routings).
Awesome, thank you! I do like to use the drone for to give perspective rather than just hours of aerial footage 👍🏻
My thoughts when watching "Foxes Afloat" vlogs are: Colin, I wonder if any of the kids and possibly teachers that were a pain when you were at school have done as well as you. You have talents and gifts that you have nourished and now use as a passion. Yes your confidence is jittery and the black hole visits you but please look in the mirror and give yourself a thumbs up. =-)
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️
Another terrific vlog. Foxes are getting so popular and everyone yells TRAIN! Love it 😍
Yes they are! 😂😂😂
Otis is getting bigger/older. Can we see a bit more of him before he grows anymore?
He's growing like a weed! 😂
Your such a great story teller
I could listen to you all day
Love you both, take care xx
Kisses for Otis
Aww, thank you so much, Bernadette!
‘Touching Cloth’ haven’t heard that since last week when my good lady shouted it out. 😂 or was that Prairie Dogging it?.....
😂
Hi guys ,another brilliant video thank you ❤️
If you happen to see Mark and Deb from Well decked diaries tell them I'm thinking of them at this difficult time for them 😢x
We will! xx
“Touching cloth!” Not heard that one for ages! Made me laugh out loud that one! (which, when you’re wearing headphones makes everyone stare at you) 🤣🤣🤣
🤣
Did you get any pickle at Braunston?...................sorry, that was bad taste! I want some of what Shaun is taking, never seen him so animated and happy. Thank you both for my friday night chill time, not to mention the history lesson. Take care both.
LOL!
Does this lockdown mess with your plans to get where your heading for winter hope you 2 are well 🙂
It changes them slightly, but we're going to be okay 💜👍🏻
@@FoxesAfloat I'm glad your ok stay safe 🙏
I can not even hear the word train without hearing Colins voice yelling TRAINS.
👍🏻🤣
I’m having a difficult time deciding who’s the cutest Shaun or Otis !? 😉
Well, seen as it's me who answers these comments (Colin), I''d say ME! 😂
I am really enjoying your vlogs and they are helping me through a period of mental health issues. This episode was especially enjoyable but was interrupted a couple of times by Justin Bieber!
He can interrupt me anytime 😉
Not only informative but funny with it, love your vlogs!
I appreciate that!
Brilliantly historical, informative, educational and hilarious!! Well done for singing the praise of the hire boater. As Shaun said we all started somewhere and you never stop learning and it is great to see hire boaters having a great time enjoying narrow boating! Yep, you did the right thing going through Braunston early in the day! Only way in my view, because I hate meeting another boat in tunnels! Luckily we went through just before a wide beam was booked so CRT weren't letting any boats coming the other way. YAY!! Wow, Otis is so cute looking at the camera. Have fun and stay safe xx
Thanks so much, Caroline!
I look forward to Fridays so much! Thank you for brightening up my day! Hope your both staying safe 🙂
Thanks so much, Josh! You too!!
Wow! The USA was only 20 years old when narrow boats were going through Braunston tunnel.. that's amazing.
I know, right?
I so look forward to Friday mornings. Very scenic and relaxing show- good fun to.
Glad you enjoyed it
shouldn't that be - you look forward to Friday moor-nings. haha 😆
When I was over to England last December, I had the privilege to visit the Braunston Locks and Basin area. My only physical exposure to the canals. It is a wonderful memory. I gongoozled my way into helping a boat down a lock. One day I hope to have the chance to take a cruise onboard one of these boats that have somehow become such a part of my life. Thank you for the trip down memory lane! Great video, as always!
Thanks for sharing! I hope you get to take a cruise one day 👍🏻
I have to thank you guys specifically for two parts of this episode. The first is for the glimpse of the old family photos, which I found charming. Quite the lookers, you two were, and you have lost none of your charm in the interim. And secondly, thank you for introducing me to the phrase "touching cloth." I had to stop the video and look it up, and now that I know what it means, I will probably never have occasion to use it. No one I know is likely to understand it's rich historic meaning, and I would not want to be asked to explain it. It is enough that I know what it means. Thank you for the pleasure of your company.
Anytime 😉
Sorry but I had to pause the Vlog to look up touching cloth!! ( I've led a sheltered life) & I nearly had wet pants could not stop laughing. You two make my week, roll on next Friday.
😂😂😂😂😂
Another great vlog. 25 minutes of shear enjoyment. You two guys put so much work into entraining us with all the historic research you put into these vlogs, you make it all so interesting, but with a lot of humour. Can only thank you once again. 😘
Our pleasure!
Hi chaps. I don't suppose that every day on the canal is idyllic but it certainly looks it to me. What a wonderful way to live. Thanks so much for sharing it each week with us 'landlubbers'.
Our pleasure!
I've watched all your blogs! Informative and such fun! Just amazing countryside! A refreshing change from the damn Covid 19!
Love you both to bits! XXX
Aww, thanks, Jacki!
Your videos always seem to short. Such gorgeous English countryside. I'm sitting in Massachusetts USA and IT IS SNOWING! Need to find someone to complain to about that. Looking forward to your continuation. The painted watering cans were great to see; thanks. Why are castles and roses traditional decoration?
Just tradition! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Having a quick feel under the table....fell about laughing....you both are becoming the new Cissy and Ada...x
🤣
Awe, look at little Otis’s face as he looks over the wall and tilts his head from one side to the other. He is as cute as my 12 week old Sheltie Gidget. Keep smiling boys. You are helping us all out during these trying times.
He knows how to manipulate us with those eyes 👀
Having my binge of you guys as your vlogs are better than live TV! Now , given that my sitting room Alexa is next to the TV , I have to listen to someone called Justin Bieber! Lol I soon rectified this though ! Great episode guys. Much thanks from a lockdown week 4 Lancastrian ! Stay safe !
Love that!
Great video and still just as funny and informative. Really love travelling along with you guys . . . Something to look forward to at the end of the week . . . Take care.
Awesome, thank you!
I’ve decided to start using the term ‘gongoozler’ in my everyday Texas conversation. Even more fun to say with my Texas drawl adding those extra syllables...
😂
Keep up the good work lads lovin' the banter. Stay safe
Thanks 👍
Once again great research Colin, thanks for your time on another lovely vlog!
My pleasure!
Shushh, I've just managed to watch you on a Friday night on the big screen ( my tele) and it's brill on the big scree... AS you guy's say "We all had to start somewhere" and patience is a must with the novice boaters... Another excellent vlog and I have to say that Braunston is a favourite spot as there is all way's something going on, it can get extremely busy there though so it's best to do what you guy's do and get away from the madness and mayhem lol.... You Guy's stay Safe and well as this Covid is getting worse again... Very best Wishes to you all, Old Skipper :) xxx
Yeah, all got to be careful now !
Great vlog guys, thank-you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks guys, a great episode with lots of information. Loved it. My Uncle David and Aunt Diana owned and lived on a narrow boat for a while. I recall him telling me you shouldn’t judge or anticipate the skill levels of a fellow boater based on if it is a hire or private boat. His theory was it may be the renters 25th trip and they may have lots of skill and the private boat may well just be driven by friends of the owners for the first time solo. Wise man Uncle David. I joined them between Banbury and Birmingham for a week long trip. Lovely. Take care fellas🧤
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Oh Colin, you've got me doing it -- "TRAIN!!"
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Same, yep, everytime.
Ha! 'Touching cloth' - hadn't heard it before - love it and have added it to repertoire ...
😂😂
Ahh my friday got a lot better thankyou
Always a pleasure! xx
Yes! I know what you said. Lol. Outtakes are great as usual. Wonderful vlog.
Thanks so much! 😊
I just hope to be half as happy in life someday as these 2 are now. Very cool channel
💜
My husband and I went from Wigrams Turn Marina near Napton to Stoke Bruerne and back on a friend's canal boat this summer. With the prospect of us all going back down into lockdown next week ☹ your recent travels have brought back many happy memories. At least if I'm locked down I'll have more time to watch your vlogs - yay! Keep up the good work
Thanks, Christine! Stay safe 👍🏻
You two never disappoint, always great to watch, funny and inspiring, always a big tonic without the gin lol 🧡👍🌈
Thanks so much 😊
It should work out well for me as i worked on yachts both sailing and repairs so i dont think i need to use a hire boat.
👍🏻
Touching cloth - never heard of that & had to look it up. Too funny 😆
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love how your beautiful vlogs take me / us into the world of tranquil canals and the countryside. Especially enjoyed the music in this vlog.
Thank you so much!
That's a pastry and a half Shaun! 🤣
👍🏻👍🏻😛
Great episode on an area we often walk. The ventilation shaft you showed comes up in the middle of a very big new building site so it may end up on a roundabout or in someone's garden. The Gongoozlers were delighted to meet you and learn of your kind words. Brilliant work as always, gents.
Thanks for the info!
@@FoxesAfloat PS I live in Drayton in Daventry...
Another excellent vlog. I'm very near to the canal up the Leicester line!
Nice one!
Life lesson no 456 Don't watch a Foxes Afloat vlog late at night because your other half will get the hump because your laughing so much , thanks for cheering up a dreary friday . love all the history , stay safe .
Ah, yes. Similar to the 'Don't drink tea or coffee while watching' 😂
You kids are utter nutters Shaun’s facial expressions make me giggle
😂
Yay 😉 ..Weedon Bec ..... if only I knew you were passing my little flat at Weedon Bec boatyard you could’ve come in for a cuppa ....glad you found Gongoozler cafe boat at Braunston ..my fave place for a full English before all this covid swizzle ...if your passing again then let me know ..would love to meet you guys 😉 ... love to Otis 😘
Next time!
I really wish you two were the new presenters for Great Canal Journeys. Your vlogs are so much better. Humor and informative. BG
That is the best idea I've heard all day! Even though I'm in the U.S. and as far as I know, I don't have access to the show, these two would be aboslutely perfect hosts for the show. Colin's knowledge and the banter between the two is so natural! We did get to watch Tim and Prue on UA-cam which we enjoyed so much. Someone should suggest this to the producers of the program. Peace!
Hehe! We've had a couple of TV offers but don't want to do any kind of series. Maybe a one-off soon 😏
@@FoxesAfloat sounds champion
Great vlog as always! However, I'm disappointed and amazed you didn't head up the Leicester line, and missed out on FOXton locks! Also it means you won't be visiting my pub at Loughborough 🙄. However, with lockdown mk2 in operation it's perhaps a good thing, you must be leaving it for better times 😉. Stay safe.
We have to be somewhere else so maybe next time 👍🏻
Its amazing 5 parallellish transport lines! TBC.
👍🏻
I don't have Alexa. Had to fart and scramble for my JB CD myself... X
😂😂😂😂😂😂
You make my Fridays.
Aww, thanks! 💜
Great vlog guys, that bacon sandwich looked lush. Beautiful scenery and great history lesson. Stay safe 💕
It was lovely, Julia! 😛
I blame you, I was stood at the railway crossing. I inadvertently shouted Traaaaain! Sulked off, very red faced.
Haha! Love it! 😂
Good Morning Colin, Shaun and Otis who gets cuter every time we see footage of him. Really enjoyable vlog. Brought back memories of when we hired a boat a few years ago on one of our trips back to the UK. We know Braunston well. Have a good weekend guys and hope you are both staying safe and well. Debbie & Patrick New Zealand.
Thanks 👍
