I have watched a lot of people react to this movie and you're the first to put the help centers numbers on the screen, really goes to show what kind of a person you are
I've known 2 people who have taken their own lives. Nobody there to help them. Thank you for those numbers. If it keeps just one person from doing what my friends did, it's worth it.
@@Aluzard Help numbers are there to aid people that are struggling mentally with thoughts of suicide. Just because someone can use the help doesn't mean their mind is weak. That's WAY too general a statement on mental illness. The mind is capable of many things and some people with incredibly strong minds capable of great intelligence and even emotional intelligence can still be struggling. Probably better to say their minds are "sick" not "weak".
Forrest's immediate worry that his Son is "like him" destroys me every time. He doesnt really show that being different bothered him in life, but in that one moment, you see it really did. Thanks for watching this and posting your reaction, incredible movie!
Disgusting movie and disgusting behavior. She abused this poor rerarded man. His entire life. Then she gives him aids. And makes him raise someone elses son. Bullshit disgusting movie.
"Sometimes I guess there just aren't enough rocks" One of the best lines in any movie and certainly the best one in THIS movie that has A LOT of good lines.
As a Husband of a SA survivor, this line is so profound and so true. I don't even ache when I hear it. Sometimes, there just isn't enough of anything to make it better. We can only be there, quietly, and let our loves throw those rocks.
@@JimEllis-i5kSo true! I also think that people miss seeing Jenny as the waitress watching the TV during Forrest’s run. She got a job and was doing the work to get herself clean for her son, and keeping track of his dad’s media articles.
Gary Sinise is an incredible human being. Him and the lieutenant Dan band came to Afghanistan while I was there. Much of his life’s work now revolves around helping veterans
I always forget about Gary's band but the name just reminds me of The Dan Band. Don't know if they have or not, but they should perform for our soldiers as well, I feel like they'd be a big hit. Anyway, thank you for your service!
I believe that Jenny left and then discovered she was pregnant and took it as a sign to heal herself. She gave her life to raise her son and it gave her purpose. Allowed her to get over her trauma. I don't believe she had aids I think I heard it was hepatitis. Her son was fine. Many call Jenny a villain but she punished herself and pushed those away that she cared about to protect them. She never thought deserved to be with a good person and forest was ' in her eyes the best person she knew. Forest was always running but Jenny was the one constantly running away. Btw this was a beautiful edit. So well done.
I always find it funny, how people forget this is way before cellphones. She might have sent a letter in the mail, but since he ran for 4 years, he would never have gotten the letter until he quit running.
@Blizzard0fHope We all appreciate your detective work, but I think it's pretty clear what the writer was trying to convey. Forrest was running and Jenny couldn't reach him to tell him about Forrest Jr. Once he returned, she wrote him a letter. Period. The writer did enough work to make the timeline work... it's unnecessary for you to require receipts.
"Jenny did tell him that if you're ever feeling like you're in trouble, just run." WOW.. that is an insight that I've not heard from any other reactor. You are truly insightful, and a joy to watch.
The text on screen where you mentioned a past like Jenny's really hit home. Having pulled through a difficult past to be here sharing your reactions with all of us is admired and appreciated.
I'm so glad, you tube brought this reaction, to my attention. Always happy to watch it but this time..... with you. Thanks so much for sharing and caring. Beautiful job. You are wonderful young lady. Thanks again.
@@kaliwali I've never mentioned this in a comment before but I've also had a (struggling for the right words) confusing, rocky and tumultuous childhood. I've forgiven but haven't forgotten and hope the rest out there who have gone through whatever it was has gotten through it without much consequence and are happy these days. Thank you, Kali. I've only seen two of your videos but I've subscribed. Can't wait to see what else you react to.
44:$5 "Why didn't she tell him?" You have to remember that he was running randomly across the country for years, and this was before mobile phones. Once she was settled, she did send the letter to his home asking him to come see her, but he didn't get that letter until he returned to Alabama after he stopped running.
Yea also you can tell it had actually been some time since she sent the letter (as in, not as if it was sent and he immediately got it and went over there), because when he tells her he got her letter, she says, ‘oh, I was wondering about that’ Which implies it had been a long while since it was sent and she was wondering what had happened to it and if he ever even got it
Minor point but the toothbrush under his helmet band was for cleaning his weapon. They are really good at getting solvent into all the nooks and crannies. M16s are a pain to clean. When I was serving in the Army, in later years, a specialized toothbrush included in your cleaning kit.
@@kaliwali similarly, that little bottle of tobasco was a real thing in MRE's (rations) for years, eventually stopping around 2012. We would keep them in our plate carriers and flak jackets too, often with a spoon too
@@A_Qwynide Actually, we still get those little Tobasco bottles in the Corps. It may be because they still give us old ass MREs that are way expired though.
I saw an interview with Tom Hanks on the Today Show. He was promoting a new movie, but I don't recall which one. During the interview they pointed out that there was Bubba/Gump restaurant across the street that you could see through the window behind them. Tom Hanks then told them that he had seen that, but not only that the restaurant used to be a bank that Tom Hanks went to when he was young struggling actor in New York. And he would have to sometimes argue with the bank managers about cashing his unemployment checks. Hanks said he wished he could go back in time to go to that bank again and tell them that the building they were in was going to one day be a theme restaurant based on character he played in a movie he won an Academy Award for.
Lt. Dan is my favorite character of this movie. The role also had a profound and dramatic impact on the actor portraying him, Gary Sinise. Since this movie he's done a lot of charity work and philanthropy for veterans, and has done multiple narrations for documentaries and series. Also, I know you're currently reacting to Marvel movies, so if you listen closely, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he's narrating the museum exhibit dedicated to Cap and his service in WW2.
I looked at the awards on this film after and saw he got best supporting actor- definitely deserved!! the scene with lt. dan dragging forrest to the ground in the hospital was sooo well done
I'm not sure why, but I find it interesting that Gary Sinise's two biggest roles are both named Taylor: Lieutenant Dan Taylor and Detective Mac Taylor. I wonder why.
From Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C in the book), Forrest Gump is the story of an entire generation; the historical touchstones, the music, the traumas, and the philosophical questions we wrestled with. Forrest was the product of his mother, he had a great attitude and focused on the positive. Jenny, as you said, was a product of her trauma and her response was to try and fly away from her problems. It took her decades to recover, partly (mostly) with the help of a loving and patient Forrest. Lieutenant Dan was a product of his trauma as well. He responded with anger and it wasn't until he spent time with Forrest and had his show-down with God that he was able to get past that. Yes, all of the historical bits happened. There are American History classes that use the film to teach the era that it covers.
Someone who finally understands what Jenny goes through. She's used to running, it's all she's ever known, her understanding of love wasn't the same love most of us grew up with. She left Forrest to make herself a better person in the end. Btw i love how they refer to Forrest on the news as a gardener from Alabama lol. PS. Her illness more then likely came from her use of dirty needles in the past.
Forrest is a gardener from Alabama because that is what he told them. Forrest doesn't have a publicist and this was before the days of the internet so they just went with what he told them.
It's definitely implied that her illness came from needle use. Everyone assumes it's HIV and the director said it could be but doesn't matter. The book author said it was Hepatitis C, which would also make sense with needle usage
The symbolism of him running, and the phrase of putting the past behind you before you can move on, is handled so well in this movie, there's so much to unpack there on so many levels. It makes me cry every time.
I think Forrest’s secret is he’s always present. He doesn’t overthink things, he just follows his heart and gets out of the universe’s way to make things happen effortlessly.
The women who plays GUMPS mother is academy award winner 🏆 SALLY FIELD. NORMA RAE . For those who don't know. Love her ❤ . Also, she played GIDGIT on T.V. back in the day. Just so you know.
Lieutenant Dan is one of my favourite movie characters. He is a tragic hero who thought it was his destiny to die for his country like his fathers before him. He suffered from extreme PTSD and lost his purpose in life after he lost his legs. He resented Forrest at first but finally came to realise that Forrest actually gave him a second chance in life and eventually he found a new purpose and new happiness.
I've seen about a million and a half Forrest Gump reactions. Yours is the best. Most people are mean to Jenny in the comments, be abuse they don't really understand what she's been through. Thank you for sharing your own struggles.
What you said is simply untrue. And you know it. Most people do not criticize Jenny. I have watched a lot of these reactions to this movie (not a million, like you) and I always criticize Jenny for not telling Forrest that he has a son for 3 years. And very single time I'm outnumbered about ten to one. Just tell the truth. Geez!
I take a halfway approach to Jenny. Yes, she went through bad trauma and therefore her behaviour is somewhat understandable. On the other hand her behaviour hurts people who don't deserve it, and not everybody who experiences trauma deals with it so poorly. So I guess what I'm saying is it's partly Jenny's fault but not completely. After all, her father likely experienced trauma as well (these things are passed on from one generation to the next) and yet we're not making excuses for his behaviour, are we?
What is wrong with you, are you ok? You ever think maybe your experience ismt the same as other peoples? Bc i watch a lot of FG reactions and i agree completely- a LOT of people criticize Jenny and dont seem to take sny time to understand her or why she does what she does. If you havent seen reactions like that thats fine, but tobcome in accusing a total stranger of lying is really weird. Maybe you need some time off the internet, you take this way too seriously. @@jeffreiland7463
Because they're identifying with the protagonist Forrest and how he doesn't deserve that treatment. I totally understand why she's doing it, but it still sucks that she just keeps dissing him and he just keeps loving her. Seems pretty toxic for Forrest. When she finally does come around, she's sick and dying and hands off their son. She has a good reason, but it's still sh-tty AF!
I used to think Jenny was a manipulative little bitch, always taking advantage of Forrest. I was discussing the film with my friend, a clinical psychologist, who set me straight as to why Jenny was the way she was, and why she did the things she did. My hatred has turned to empathy. I really feel for Jenny.🥰
My favorite movie of all time. It has so much depth and rewatchability. I am editing this comment because I saw you put some text relating to Jenny. I've seen many reactions to this movie, but you show true empathy and understanding that many people can't fathom / achieve. You are awesome, keep it up!
Its funny when you asked is that him when he was running, because actually the running scenes were filmed on location around the country, and most of them were actually Tom Hanks brother filling in for him.
Forrest was the only one who ever believed in Jenny. Even when she wasn't ready for him - pushing him away as she navigated her own unhealed trauma - he continued to always support her. The one constant in her life, that kept her going, and kept her from jumping off that ledge. Goes to show it really doesn't take much to completely change someone's life for the better. The power of love, and belief, and always seeing the best in them In a lot of ways, as someone who feels like I need to have everything under control (and get very stressed when I don't), this movie has taught me to just let go. That the unexpected will come and go, but as long as you stay true to yourself, and running on your path, that everything will work out in the end. Even if its not the way you thought it would Since I had already watched your react on Patreon, I had this one on in the background this afternoon while I was doing some work around the house, and I gotta say this was amazingly well edited! I'd have to think that a primarily dialogue-based movie would be very hard to edit in a way that maintains good flow and continuity, but you did it. This was a perfect reaction, and it seems like everyone over here is loving it!
Jenny repeatedly told Forrest that he didn’t know what love is, the worst thing is Jenny continued to suffer most of her life and didn’t see what was in front of her almost her most of her life. But being on the outside and watching someone destroy themselves there’s not much one can do.
Jenny's rejection of Forrest could be seen as very frustrating and disappointing knowing how amazing Forrest is, but in a way it shows the goodness in Jenny too. Jenny always saw and recognized the good in Forrest and she didn't want her self-perceived brokenness to infect and corrupt him. Some mistakenly see it as selfish and weak, but she thought she was also protecting him from herself. Many in her situation could just as easily leech and leech from Forrest without ever genuinely wanting to get better.
This movie always fills my eyes with tears, reflecting on my own struggles and hardships in my life . Especially, remembering the friends I served in the U.S. military with , or the failed love relationships of women I hoped would always be there to share life and love with . I enjoyed your reaction video 👍 📹 When Forrest tells Jenny about all the beautiful views he's seen and exclaimed she was there with him.... After my years in the Army , I suffered from PTSD . My way of learning to "let go" of my past was to leave society behind and be a cold climate wilderness survivalist and an extreme long distance backpacker . Seven years and 24,500 trail miles later on all the National Scenic Trails ... I finally understood the factual truth of reality within the forces of Nature . I've existed as a solitary creature in Nature for so long that, I finally went back to my birth town in Iowa. I've no family or friends here anymore , but reflections of my memories is enough , til it's my turn to pass on. ❤ ✌ 👣
Just FYI....The football " recruiters " as you referred to them , particulary the guy in the middle with the hat, represented a famous college footbal head coach for Alabama , named Paul " Bear" Bryant .....considered by some to be one of the greatest college coaches of all time
No matter how many times I see it, when Forrest meets his son and asks if he's smart, it always brings tears to my eyes, every time. He's so concerned and thoughtful, more than he lets on. Such a sweetheart. ❤
Something that always strikes me about this movie comes down to the opposing ideas of destiny vs floating around all accidental-like. So many momumental decisions he made and good fortune he was afforded was through the guidance and love of others (for example - following Jenny's advice to run from danger, his promise to Bubba about shrimping, following Dan's instincts and weathering the storm). He worked his way through hardships from strength to strength based on a pure, innocent heart and a good foundation. It breaks my heart to see the juxtaposition between Forrest's story and Jenny's in this respect. Her formative years were full of instability and trauma and what she had with Forrest was the purest thing she ever experienced until the birth of her son. She made bad choice after bad choice, some through her own will and some through circumstance, and while that does not absolve the hurt she caused, I think it shows what difference those tethers and the presence of people who care about you can make to what you become. Jenny floated on the breeze in whatever direction it took her, and Forrest put his faith in himself and his loved ones. Maybe in the context of this movie, that's what destiny really is. Thank you for a wonderful reaction with your usual heart and empathy ❤
That was an awesome reaction. I absolutely loved it. I especially enjoyed your understanding of Jenny. Any way that you look at it, without Jenny, Forrest Gump wouldn't be Forrest Gump.
This is one of the most beautifully written films of all time. I cry my eyes out every single time, even when watching reactions. That scene when Jenny is dying and he’s describing all the beautiful things he saw gives me head to toe goosebumps.
Great reaction...it's profound when art makes oneself look at things from a different perspective (it's definitely happened to me, from films), and it was really heartwarming to see someone having a reaction to art in this way.
Tom Hanks was on an impressive Oscars win streak at this time. He won Best Actor Oscars 2 years in a row (this was his 2nd win). His first win was the year prior for PHILADELPHIA (1993) which was the for major big budget Hollywood film to talk about AIDS, and star both Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington.
Loved your reaction! ❤ this story tries to show people that you don't need to try and control or manipulate the world to get what you want. Let the world just happen around you and just enjoy the opportunities and experiences.
Many people like to hate on Jenny without knowing what she went through. She was abused from a young age, which had a profound affect on her. She may have been cold to Forrest at times, but she didn't mean to be. She was simply a free spirit who followed the breeze. Unfortunately, it led her down a self-destructive path that led to her death. In the end, she wished she had followed Forrest's example of feeling the breeze but not being changed or led by it.
Aye, it seems like Jenny feels like she isn't good enough to be loved because she is so damaged. It really is quite heartbreaking. I've seen quite a few reactors be pretty harsh about Jenny. For all his problems Forest at least had a very supportive loving mother.
41:00 at this point in the movie, he says for no particular reason he felt like running, Jenny had told him before going to Vietnam, that if he was ever scared or hurt to just run. At this point he was hurt by Jenny, and he ran until the pain was gone (over 3 years).
I have watched and subscribed to many reaction channels. Your reaction to this movie is by far above all the rest. You now have a new subscriber . Thank you from a 63 yr. old widower from Maine
You are a lovely lady. Stay strong and don't stress about what others think about you. I used to do the same thing and once i quit worrying about it i felt much better.
i was the same way up until my mid twenties then, one day i just said to myself i'm just going to try to do the right things and not worry so much about outcomes and about things i can't control have had piece of mind since then
The 2 things I absolutely LOVE about this movie. 1) The "Is he smart or is he-" Line is so incredibly delivered by Tom Hanks. It is my favorite line ever delivered in film history. That line shows that even though he doesn't really react to the bullying and negative comments in his life they still affected him greatly; he was worried if his son was seen as less intelligent he'd be picked on like he was. 2) A LOT of people HATE Jenny and say things like "How can she treat him that way" and even go as far as to suggest that Forrest shouldn't have married her. Jenny is such a complex character and the people who are confused why Forrest kept trying and saw her as a bad person have never gone through trauma like Jenny has. Obviously she made some poor decisions with drugs but she surrounded herself with bad guys and people because she was taught at a young age that THAT is what love is like. She tells Forrest he doesn't know what love is when JENNY is really the one who doesn't understand love. She was abused by her father; every relationship that followed that she was abused in she made excuses ("He doesn't mean it when he does things like this") and kept going back to them. When she sees Forrest with his son she WITNESSES true love and, in turn, realizes Forrest had the same true love for her all along. So overall, I don't condone Jenny's actions or even go as far as to say she's a "good" person. But I don't blame her either.
The feather in the wind during the opening and closing credits really tells the secret of Forrest' succeeding in life, no matter what. I think Lt. Dan learned that from him, Jenny too at the very end.
She contracted Hep. C, (as the author said later), both AIDS and Hep. C were still new and a treatment was not developed yet. Glad your situation has improved from where you were before. Please react to The Terminal, another great Tom Hanks performance; Maybe bring a couple of tissues.
I spend years of my life thinking about what other people think of me but at some point it clicked. Its about you beeing able to think positive about yourself not others! Looking back at it i wasted so many energy and years of finding a way to satisfy others, that i nearly lost myself. I am glad that i finally realised its just not worth it. Be you and dont apologize for it. People who cant accept you as you are, were never friends anyway. Be you and be proud of it!
I find that a lot of people don't like Jenny or think she is an awful person. I'm thankful you don't seem to lean that way. Jenny isn't a bad person. She is a poor woman who had a terrible childhood and it affected her life. That's very real.
What I find amazing about Forrest is the courage he has to trust people and love them despite all of their flaws and their pasts. He loved Jenny no matter where she was , what she did, who she had been with, etc. He could see past all that including the illness. That takes a lot of inner strength. I could never be that trusting or forgiving. I’m not strong enough to do that.
I wore the identical braces at the same age as Forrest and was often bullied just as he was. That didn't end until i graduated from high school. When i first saw the movie in the theater, it was like flashing back on my own life.
It’s interesting that Jenny always told Forrest to run from trouble , but viewed herself as trouble for Forrest if he were to ever get too close to her. Far too many people are too harsh on her. She was simply protecting Forrest from the pain her personal issues could have inflicted on him (issues that weren’t of her own making). She knew Forrest would never run away from her to protect himself , so she had to run away from him for his own good. It’s heartbreaking to hear you had similar experiences to Jenny. I could see the emotional pain in your face and eyes when Jenny returned to her childhood home and let out her anger. “Sometimes , I guess there aren’t enough rocks” , is one of the most simply prophetic ways of saying that trauma cuts extremely deep. I’m sorry that this part of the story was so relatable , and I appreciate your honesty and vulnerability by letting your viewers know that you can relate. I wish for you as much peace of mind and healing as humanly possible.
42:47 - Yes, sadly yes . . . and they still haven't stopped. 😒 44:44 - It's a subtle explanation, and I don't blame you for asking, but this was in the 80s before cell phones were really a thing. She didn't tell him because he had been running for years just prior. How could she? In the end, she probably asked Forest to marry her because she finally found her peace. That, and she was thinking of having Forest Jr. be raised by his father. In the future, I'd recommend just having a box of tissues on your desk there handy. Because movie reactions are like a box of chocolates...
Sometimes I forget why I watch people do reaction videos. Then, I come across someone like you. Seeing someone being real... being touched... and expressing in a beautiful way how the experience has been positive gives me hope. Tonight you gave me hope, and I'll sleep better because of it. Thankyou.
I love this movie and I will forever love Jenny. Most viewers hate her and many even think that she came back to him after learning that she is dying and gave him someone else's kid (?). But she is a commplex character who went through a lot and she is flawed. I think perhaps why she didn't contact him sooner may have been because he was running and was unreachable. Or maybe because she was afraid to hurt him more. She tends to distance herself for his sake as well, and then when she realized that she doesn't have much time left she made a move. Either way, I love her, I love Forrest, and this movie. Great reaction as always!
Watching this as a kid, I didn’t appreciate it. Rewatching as an adult who has grown to place a premium on compassion, this movie is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. I’ve been binging your reactions and I greatly appreciate your compassion for these movies! Edit: I think Jenny changed the way she was towards Forrest for multiple reasons. When you're struggling, you can only see what's right in front of you, which is digging your way out of the hole. But once she got herself together (possibly for Forrest Jr) and you have the clarity to reflect, you really remember the people that were there for you even when you push help away. Once you realize how pivotal that was to helping you get there, you never forget it and realize what those acts were really worth. Plus I think she didn't feel like she deserved his love, but because she was feeling down and needed to feel love herself, she slept with him, but immediately felt guilty because she didn't feel like she could be what he deserved, but obviously Forrest never needed her to be anything else.
Those cute, tiny bottles of Tabasco are a pretty typical inclusion in military MRE kits (Meal, Ready to Eat). I don't know about during Vietnam, but if this was depicting modern warfare that would definitely be a point of authenticity.
The shootings I witnessed live on TV growing up. Was there when the news popped up. First time I saw my mother really cry. Even the music chosen is the soundtrack of my own life.
Hi Kali, When you showed that you felt for Jenny's life, and something similar happened to you, and when Jenny threw rocks at the house (i think she stayed as a child), then i saw your tears, i got tears to. But today your life is better and you have allot of people that do care for you. And so therefore this is true: "Life is like a box of Chocolates…You never know what you gonna get". 😢👍🏽😊
That was a lovely lovely tender reaction to this movie. I was moved by your being moved 😊. Especially after reading your little insert, in the middle of the movie, about relating to Jenny from your own past. That broke my heart a little bit. I’ve always related to her too. I’m a man, but also went through some stuff when I was younger that didn’t translate to the best decisions later. I always get upset when reactors to this movie get too upset with Jenny. It makes me think they don’t understand, and that reminds me of people in my own life that haven’t understood me very well either. Anyway, I know it’s just a movie, but it sure does stir up some emotions, doesn’t it? ❤ That’s why the movie’s so good!!
One of the very few reactors that I have seen that did not judge Jenny too harshly but understood that she was struggling with what was forced upon her as a child. When she told Forrest that "he did not know what love is", she was seeing love as something twisted. I think it took her having a child of her own for her to truly understand what love really is supposed to be. Only then was she truly ready to accept Forrest's love.
I'd like to think that Jennie in the end realized what an exceptional person Forrest was, both as a husband and a father, and that he'd take care of their son. It's never too late for someone you love.
It’s crazy, how many times I’ve watched this movie, on my own, and things like this, how hard, and deeply the scene where he meets young Forrest, and the scene when he’s talking to Jenny’s headstone, it just crushes me. So violently. An honorable mention is Bubba’s death. Those three parts, specifically the parts with Jenny just, pull the tears out, it gets my lip quivering. No other thing I can think of that gives me that emotion.
The backdrop in the scene when Forrest stops running is Monument Valley, a spectacular region on the Navajo Reservation with massive red rock buttes and mesas. Perhaps the most spectacular sunsets and sunrises I've ever seen took place there. The golden light falling on those towering red rock walls is spectacular (many westerns were filmed at Monument Valley). I worked as a camping tour leader guiding groups of mostly young Europeans around the US and Canada and I often took them to Monument Valley where we'd hire Navajo guides for jeep tours, overnight horseback rides in the canyons and, the best option IMHO, an overnight hike to the top of Hunts Mesa which provided a commanding view of the "Valley" from on high and a perfect place to witness a stunning Monument Valley sunrise or sunset. I always slept right on the edge of the Mesa, just a bedroll under the stars, to wake to the sunrise. On the road to or from Moab, near Mexican Hat at the San Juan River, I'd stop where they shot the scene for Forrest Gump, which most of the passengers had seen. They loved it!
Forrest was running for 3 years starting pretty much after Jenny left and they didn't have mobile phones so Jenny couldn't tell him, the letter was the only communication she could do.
I've watched every Forrest Gump reaction I can find and I think I know why the boat came around and crashed into the pier. Just before he jumps overboard, we see the wheel turning on it's own to the left. Ergo, the full circle. IMO. I could be wrong. Also, when Jenny's guy Wesley ranted about Johnson and the war, Forrest had already "said it all" about the war to Abbie Hoffman and mooned President Johnson. Wesley could never be able to reach such a broad audience on purpose, let alone without intending to, as Forrest had.. I really appreciate that you made short-and-sweet observations while watching the film and saved your indepth and personal interpretatiions until the end. Love your reaction so much, kaliwali, that I just finished watching it a third time. Thank you.
LOVELY Reaction and bless you for including the help line numbers 🙏🙏🙏 Now that I am sadly acquainted with the topic, I can pretty much say that Jenny, having gone through a horrible childhood, has all the marks of DISMISSIVE AVOIDANCE. Any time someone gets really close, really loves her, she flees - because deep down she can't fathom being loved, having been treated like discard material by her caregiver while growing up. Also, thank you for making me realize the sky and the earth having no clear limit is in the same movie as a mom sacrificing her dignity to save her son. I was commenting on a very real life story 6 hours ago just when you uploaded this. Loves from Paris.
Jenny is not a bad person, she never wanted to hurt forest. She wanted to protect him from her. She ran her whole life from her childhood traumas and was seeking love and acceptance in the whole time she had somebody right in front of her who loved her for her and would treat her the way she always wanted to be. It took her until near the end to realize it, but she came to the realization that her lifelong friend, was also the one she truly loved and loved her

28:59 So sad to hear (read) that. So glad you got out of it. Love from Spain. (The original novel is wildly different and way more on the funny side. Fart jokes, hippie Forrest smoking pot and being a genius playing the harmonica, a brief stint as a professional wrestler with Lt. Dan as his manager, becoming, believe or not, an astronaut (he excelled at math in college) and becoming best friends with... an orangutan on a space mission, and I could go on and on and on. Crazy. Just CRAZY).
Great reaction. You were so thoughtful with your numbers for help onscreen. I've never seen another reactor do that with this movie. I would like to hear your story, if you are (or were in the past) inclined to share it. Peace and love!
*Everyone always misses **#Jenny** @**41:36** the waitress* (I'd cut her some slack not telling #Forest right away she was messed up, but after she cleaned up he was runny cross country & she was following him in the media with no way to contact him)
Great reaction! While Jenny was healing, Forrest was "on the road", so very hard to reach. Because of that I think it's not all on her that she contacted him later. Also I think she wasn't really running away, but she had realized that she had to become better. I do think she suggested to marry Forrest out of the interest for their son. Thanks and all the best from the Netherlands!to protect the future
Forrest was running for 3 years and Jenny never knew it until she saw him on the news. The VERY ironic hook there is that Jenny never received his STACK of letters because she was never home, and Forrest never received the ONE letter she ever wrote to him because he wasn't home. The editing and commentary (not too much, just enough, and profound) on this channel is very very good!
44:46 on top of what a few other people mentioned about why she couldn’t, it’s implied that the letter she sent him was sent a long time before he stopped running, as when he tells her he got her letter, she says, ‘Oh, I was wondering about that’, implying it was sent long enough ago where she was wondering what happened to it, whether or not he even got it, or if he’s just ignoring her in anger, etc. She wanted to rekindle for her son’s sake as she was sick, so he wouldn’t be left without a father and to spend her remaining days with some happiness alongside both Forrest’s The sickness was Hepatitis C from sharing needles 11:39 idk if you meant Forrest or even Jenny, but if you mean Billy, I mean….. it might have something to do with him getting randomly assaulted by a guy he doesn’t even know lol
Having Forrest's child and becoming a mother made her finally learn what true love is and it turned her life around and made her realize that Forrest was the one for her.
I am very sorry that you had a difficult childhood, Kali. For what it's worth and for what one is able to tell just by watching your videos, you seem to be a remarkably nice, empathic and good-natured human. It's why I love watching you react to these stories. They way you are able to relate to others, the way you pick up things, it's just great.
This is one of my all time favourite movies! Great reaction, glad you enjoyed it. Very cliché, but this and Saving Private Ryan (among other war movies) are what inspired me to serve my country. I was 13-14 when i first saw SPR in School. It made me think being a soldier could be fun (as a naive teen i didn't think about war). But i'm glad i served. I met some great people from the U.S.A.F and U.S.M.C. 🇬🇧🇺🇸
My mom literally looked exactly like Sally Field in this when we were kids, it was weird, now even as she's getting older. We were convinced she had a secret movie career. I sincerely cried when she died, every time. That's all I have to say about that...Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant, even when playing a local idiot. I love when LT. Dan comes with his "magic legs" made from the same material as the space shuttle to his wedding...the next year they were in Apollo 13th together! One of the most clever, hilarious, heartfelt films ever.
"You ever been on a real SHRIMP boat?" "I've been on a real BIG boat." 😅 IOW, Gump was never on a SMALL [ shrimp ] boat, but he was on a BIG boat . In his mind, anyway. Your personality makes watching your reactions a pleasure. This video waa the third in a row from your channel. Keep up the good work, and ... keep on r'actin .
I like that you understood understood what Jenny went though but was shocked and saddened that you admitted to going through simular situations in your life and that's why you have sympathy for her character. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction to the movie. Even though I'm not a religious man, I have to say "God bless you" because you have a special place in my heart.
Zen teaches that life is full of unpleasant experiences we must do. And since we must do them, don't think about the task...just do it! Forrest must be a Zen Master!😅
I really enjoyed your reaction. I appreciate you opening up and connecting to the more unsettling material. I hope you’ve found health and happiness. I definitely agree, this movie is a reminder to flow more with life. We all might have a destiny, but we also need to be open to where life can take us. Even if it doesn’t feel apart of the plan. And now the elephant in the room, I really appreciate you not hating on Jenny. I really liked how you acknowledged that her actions aren’t always acceptable, but her trauma informs her view of the world. Way too many people consider her a villain and it’s pretty gross imo.
You just got a new subscriber and a huge fan. Most people curse Jenny when they watch this movie for the first time. You, understood her, I understood her. People are shaped by their childhood and even beyond that. The "path" some of us are forced down, can be incredibly hard to get off of. Great reaction to an important movie. Thank you so much.... I do have to say, you are very magnetic. Not trying to be a creep either, but wow. Those eyes, vulnerable yet wise... So pretty. Seeing you light up when they showed Lennon and your overall reaction to this movie, enforced my gut feeling about you. That giggle of yours is the icing on the cake, though. Look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thanks again.
I have watched a lot of people react to this movie and you're the first to put the help centers numbers on the screen, really goes to show what kind of a person you are
It's been 30 years since it came out, weakness is still in it's infancy.
what are help numbers? Is it for people that have weak minds?
@@Aluzard Aww, did the word "help" trigger the poor little chud? Aren't you late for harassing a random minority?
Great comment.
Yess it makes you realize that Forrest knew he was special the entire time. He was well aware of his condition and that makes that scene golden.
@@D23-88 I highly doubt it's Forrest kid. With how big.of a slut jenny is it could be anyone east of the Mississippi
He was probably relieved that little FOrrest wouldn't be in for the same type of bullying he experienced.
You must have been the first person I saw that wasn't angry about Jenny, but understood her. I really appreciate that.
Theres a couple more that understands her situation too. Couple more as in reactors.
Disgusting movie and disgusting behavior. She abused this poor rerarded man. His entire life. Then she gives him aids. And makes him raise someone elses son. Bullshit disgusting movie.

100% agree.
"Sometimes I guess there just aren't enough rocks" One of the best lines in any movie and certainly the best one in THIS movie that has A LOT of good lines.
I agree... and I don't think a lot of people pick up on that line unfortunately
She might have sent a letter in the mail, but since he ran for 4 years, he would never have gotten the letter until he quit running.
true, . . and there is a decent question in how much time between her leaving and when he started running. . . and also when she sent the letter
All the returned letters were the ones he sent while he was in Nam.
@@windsorkid7069 He is talking about while he was running and couldn't contact him about the kid.
"Jenny did tell him that if you're ever feeling like you're in trouble, just run."
WOW.. that is an insight that I've not heard from any other reactor. You are truly insightful, and a joy to watch.
The text on screen where you mentioned a past like Jenny's really hit home. Having pulled through a difficult past to be here sharing your reactions with all of us is admired and appreciated.
thank you 🩷

Before the internet too. Finding people was no easy matter back in the day.
Yea also you can tell it had actually been some time since she sent the letter (as in, not as if it was sent and he immediately got it and went over there), because when he tells her he got her letter, she says, ‘oh, I was wondering about that’
Which implies it had been a long while since it was sent and she was wondering what had happened to it and if he ever even got it
Minor point but the toothbrush under his helmet band was for cleaning his weapon. They are really good at getting solvent into all the nooks and crannies. M16s are a pain to clean. When I was serving in the Army, in later years, a specialized toothbrush included in your cleaning kit.
makes sense!! thank you for sharing this
@@kaliwali similarly, that little bottle of tobasco was a real thing in MRE's (rations) for years, eventually stopping around 2012.
There’s at least 2 here in Texas that I know of
0:55 "... wondering if, maybe, I should have brought some tissues."
Yes, Kali. You maybe should have.
"You're STILL, Lt. Dan ...." IQ or not there is some wisdom in that statement.
I'm not sure why, but I find it interesting that Gary Sinise's two biggest roles are both named Taylor: Lieutenant Dan Taylor and Detective Mac Taylor. I wonder why.
Lt Dan….ice cream
Him and Tom also played together in Apollo 13
He doesn’t overthink things, he just follows his heart and gets out of the universe’s way to make things happen effortlessly.
great way to put it!
The power of love, and belief, and always seeing the best in them
In a lot of ways, as someone who feels like I need to have everything under control (and get very stressed when I don't), this movie has taught me to just let go. That the unexpected will come and go, but as long as you stay true to yourself, and running on your path, that everything will work out in the end. Even if its not the way you thought it would
Since I had already watched your react on Patreon, I had this one on in the background this afternoon while I was doing some work around the house, and I gotta say this was amazingly well edited!
@@garycollins7750Jenny one of the great villains in the history of cinema
I enjoyed your reaction video 👍 📹
When Forrest tells Jenny about all the beautiful views he's seen and exclaimed she was there with him....
My favorite lines: "That's my boat." and "Sometimes, I guess there just aren't enough rocks."
I love the rocks line too 🩷
That was an awesome reaction.
Let the world just happen around you and just enjoy the opportunities and experiences.
you said it beautifully!
You are so intelligent, insightful, and thoughtful! Thank you! You really seem like a great person
Yes this is one of the greatest and most iconic movies of all time… I quote it daily actually lol
Happy 30th anniversary to it, by the way lol
The guy in the American flag shirt is supposed to be Abby Hoffman. He was a leader in the anti war movement in those days.
He did love saying the F word. LOL
That part jenny tells him never be brave when you are in trouble run just run.. it brings tears in my eyes
I have watched and subscribed to many reaction channels. Your reaction to this movie is by far above all the rest. You now have a new subscriber . Thank you from a 63 yr. old widower from Maine
You are a lovely lady. Stay strong and don't stress about what others think about you. I used to do the same thing and once i quit worrying about it i felt much better.
i was the same way up until my mid twenties
then, one day i just said to myself i'm just going to try to do the right things and not worry so much about outcomes and about things i can't control
have had piece of mind since then
I’m really impressed you know most of the historical references. Most don’t catch many.
So sorry to hear about your past! You are a very beautiful and brave young lady. Thank you for having the courage to share that with us.
Remember, Forrest was running from about 1978 to 1981. There were no cell phones. That's why Jenny couldn't tell him
What a wonderful reaction, I am so sorry you went through what you did and glad you said and posted what you did during this. ((Hug))
45:30 Because she’s dying and wants her child to be looked after when she’s gone. I don’t accept that she’s just come back now that he’s rich.
I wore the identical braces at the same age as Forrest and was often bullied just as he was. That didn't end until i graduated from high school. When i first saw the movie in the theater, it was like flashing back on my own life.
Beautiful reaction! ❤ My favorite quote is, "Sometimes, I guess there just aren't enough rocks." Stay AMAZING!
44:44 - It's a subtle explanation, and I don't blame you for asking, but this was in the 80s before cell phones were really a thing.
Thankyou.
wow, thank you so much for the kind words! i really appreciate you sharing them & i'm so happy my channel could bring you some joy 🩷
Jenny contacts Forrest again cause she's dying. She wanted to make sure little Forrest was taken care of when she passed.
I've seen many reactions to this movie and yours was best and most thoughtful. Beautiful reaction❤
I love this movie, a true emotional roller coaster. Thanks Kali!🥰
definitely a roller coaster of allllll the emotions 🤣😮💨
Thank you.
LOVELY Reaction and bless you for including the help line numbers 🙏🙏🙏
Now that I am sadly acquainted with the topic, I can pretty much say that Jenny, having gone through a horrible childhood, has all the marks of DISMISSIVE AVOIDANCE.
Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan. You've now seen Tom Hanks two best movies. At 70, I vividly recall all the moments highlighted. Excellent film.
And the military consultant is the same on both movies (Dale Dye, and in fact, his award-winning work on Forrest Gump got him the Pvt Ryan job :)
"i wanna go home" makes me tear up everytime
"Oh like an Airbnb!" Or an actual B&B? 😅
I got a hand shaped bruise on my forehead from her saying that.

This is to have succeeeded."

Gump On Friends!!!
✌️🌎❤️
28:59 So sad to hear (read) that. So glad you got out of it. Love from Spain.
(The original novel is wildly different and way more on the funny side. Fart jokes, hippie Forrest smoking pot and being a genius playing the harmonica, a brief stint as a professional wrestler with Lt. Dan as his manager, becoming, believe or not, an astronaut (he excelled at math in college) and becoming best friends with... an orangutan on a space mission, and I could go on and on and on. Crazy. Just CRAZY).
20:50 Crazy first time I've ever heard the term "Spray & Pray" from a woman, respect!👍
You're never alone. Psalm 139.
Great reaction. You were so thoughtful with your numbers for help onscreen. I've never seen another reactor do that with this movie.
I would like to hear your story, if you are (or were in the past) inclined to share it.
Peace and love!
When you put up the International Help Numbers during that scene with Jenny, I got all teary eyed... I appreciate how much you care!
I think many of us needs to think like Forrest. Enjoy the small things in life and reframe from so much hate and discontent for one another.
It’s supposed to be funny, sad, inspirational, educational, all of the above. Greatest movie ever made.
She wanted to rekindle for her son’s sake as she was sick, so he wouldn’t be left without a father and to spend her remaining days with some happiness alongside both Forrest’s
The sickness was Hepatitis C from sharing needles
11:39 idk if you meant Forrest or even Jenny, but if you mean Billy, I mean….. it might have something to do with him getting randomly assaulted by a guy he doesn’t even know lol
🇬🇧🇺🇸
Forrest was somewhat simple minded. That allowed him to not overthink and excel and focus on simple tasks and directions.
Well, he was a lot smarter than those people who claim that there was no way for Jenny to contact him for 3 years and tell him that he had a son.
"You ever been on a real SHRIMP boat?"
"I've been on a real BIG boat." 😅
IOW, Gump was never on a SMALL [ shrimp ] boat, but he was on a BIG boat .
