I finally got my hands on the new Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x with Snapdragon X Elite and it's legit. The performance, battery life, and that insanely bright OLED screen blew me away - it might be the best Windows laptop I've ever used. While there are still some "quirks" with the new AI features, this feels like a true leap forward for Windows devices.

You should update to acknowledge that not a single music production DAW will run on this thing. Anyone that makes music in any capacity should stay away.
Austin never says anything bad anymore, and it's a shame. Windows on ARM still isn't good, the ACTUAL reviews online from purchasing sites shows a lot that ARM Windows cannot do. It's unfortunate mainstream review channels aren't saying that and misleading people.

Activate DaVinci Resolve Studio. Lol. Activate Ableton Live. Lol. Activate Steinberg Cubase. Lol. My Nintendo Switch also checks online if I have a license for the game I bought. Just like the Playstation and Xbox do it as well. Lol. And guess what: EVERY Mac contacts Apple's Server Farms BEFORE it even boots macOS to check if its part of an Enterprise Management solution and if there is a configuration profile for the machine that Apple wants to push to them. Duh! (And I guess most Mac users don't even know that.)
The AI is literally the one thing that makes these the least appealing. That and the fact that the performance is not *yet* on par with AMD or Intel. Yet.

The GPU in these are awful, also you have to make you use the correct performance mode to get good performance while battery suffers.

Also price it trough the roof ... for $1200 you can have a gaming laptop ... these should not have been more than $700-800.

It kind of sucks for early adopters. Even with great battery life and CPU performance, too many issues with drivers for printers and productivity apps. Late adopters will get all the perks, including drivers with printers and productivity apps.
Microsoft removing RECALL might actually save these co-pilot PCs, RECALL is what would stop me buying this laptop.... and you say they are adding it back??? never mind looks like Snapdragon is never going to be my laptop CPU, I would be so done if MS added that spyware back on it, I would want rid, so to me these laptops are an oddity but not a viable option.... I would lose money buying it.... Lenovo, Qualcomm, you can blame MS with RECALL, thinking that was a good idea.

@@freeloadd They're putting it on all newer laptops. At least with Dell, which is what my employer buys. Already tried remapping with regedit, Sharpkeys, Microsoft PowerToys, and AutoHotKey. It did not work. And yes, I know it's a combo Left-Shift + Windows key + F23. If anyone who sees this is able to do it, let me know lol

None of the "AI" in this is anything you can't get with a decent Intel processor and CoPilot.

Can’t take these tech reviews seriously these days. I had high hopes for this ARM push so Apple would get some real laptop competition but this, and other “reviews” I’ve seen are all fluff.
Level1Tech has a great video about some of the problems but also covers why I think this will just be Microsoft’s 3rd failed attempt at ARM.

Windows really shot itself in the foot with how they presented their implementation with ARM chips. They're very efficient but it's still leaps behind what it could be. So many apps aren't compatible, windows copilot requires a monthly subscription and even though it's Ai is ran on device GPT-4o is the same price with the same speed from the website, and the laptops shipping with these chips suck they're overpriced and run as good as a (3 years old BTW) Macbook Pro m1 pro chip but the Mac (renewed on Amazon for $1000) will give you a better screen (120hz 4k) and compatibility. Microsoft is so far behind its embarrassing.

Austin: "Snapdragon Laptops are just good!*" * = unless you want your games to work. Then not so much. LTT did a stream testing games on a snapdragon vs x86 and the snapdragon did NOT do well. Many didn't even run. Prism is NOT there yet.

Though they did choose very odd things to hype up, when the chips have actual legitimate things to be excited about. But that's always the case with marketing teams vs engineering teams.

AMD Strix is releasing end of the month. Only people that like to be guinea pigs for Qualcomm and Microsoft should buy this underwhelming first gen product.

Yeah, the battery life is way better, especially the standby time on these laptops. I have a Galaxy Book Edge 14-inch, and it's incredible. You can just close the lid, and 24 hours later, it's only dropped like 3%. Also, Windows 11 ARM runs and feels so smooth. I generally don't even know when it's emulating things because it runs everything smoothly and quickly. It's not a gaming laptop; it's an ultra-thin and light one. I'm sure if games get optimized and compiled for ARM, it'll run a lot of games much better. GTA 5 runs amazingly while being emulated, like 120+ frames per second.

Yeah, that sucks. It should be at least 1 TB. I also no longer consider machines with less than 32 GB of RAM.

These reviews online seem to have to most strange spin. I bought this laptop thinking it would be perfect for me. I've had a MacBook air m1 and miss some of the flexibility of windows. They need to stop saying there are no issues with app compatibility. I am there target user, don't care about gaming and just want to do my work, but things like google drive, a VPN and common software for making simple video tutorials does not run well. The battery life is less then my 3 year old air, and on standby I was losing a lot of battery compared to the m1 air as well. I'll be returning this laptop and think it will be great in 1 or 2 years. The hardware is incredible in this laptop. I got the one with 1tb ssd and 32gb ram; nothing really comparable for the price, but I still need to return it unfortunately. The online community should be more honest about these machines though. I bought into the hype luckily Lenovo has a generous return policy.
TBH this “class” of laptop is pretty good only for a thin segment of business, even then there will be problems... I'd just treat it like all first gen product with great deal of doubts...
How do you get a device from Lenovo themselves, and it has the "Activate Windows" watermark on it?
It's quite normal that a Windows machine wants to be activated when it has an actual OEM version (and not a volume license) on it. Once the license gets activated, it also gets stored in your Microsoft account. He probably did not want this to happen, since it was a review model.
Ngl I hear what you’re saying, it’s a good laptop (except for the software) but it’s really just coming off mid…the battery life isn’t really that impressive, the webcam looks horrible and the microphone sounds like a flip phone…I wouldn’t pay more than like 200$ for this lol

The thing I need from a windows device now is excellent battery life. I am this close to switch to macbook for my office work as I need a laptop that can ACTUALLY last whole day. Also the web cam looks impressive ngl.
I can't believe windows laptop makers still won't implement haptic touchpads as an across the board standard. After using my wife's MacBook for just an hour or so, I can't go back to the horrible feel of a physical click

If you want to clock your yoga for better performance, then set to best performance in settings, then get a flat 17" 2 fan laptop-cooler base. Enjoy increased performance uber close to the M3 - my Yoga saw a 9% performance increase tested by CPUX for my own, and the guy who figured the hack is online - he put the laptops in a freezer , etc - you should be able to find it with that description. Yoga 7x 32 gig, 1tb, Win pro. Great unit, and when the suport fills out I plan to Dual boot it.

Lenovo devices traditionally have excellent Linux support (even though Lenovo does not officially advertise that). However, from what I've read, thus far Linux itself currently is not yet up to the job of running properly on these new machine generation - it's still under development.
It probably uses standard UEFI, but I'm skeptical of hardware support on Linux.
Linux is not working on them.
MS has locked the bootloader. I assume they are investing billions and have signed another exclusive deal with Qualcomm. I am still determining when it expires. WSL will work fully by Q4, and I understand that Linux-only Snapdragon laptops will eventually be released.

You will need to switch. Either to Windows 10/11 or to Linux.
Windows 7 is barely functioning anymore and at some point, like 70% of the software for it won't work. Not to mention the fact that new hardware doesn't work on Windows 7, since that would require drivers. Which aren't being made anymore.

The fact that the principal SDE at MS who came up with this was like “security issue? What security issue?” really shows this was a “solution looking for a problem”, except it’s not even a solution, it’s just… bad… and given how MS shoves features down Windows user’s throats (even on Windows pro), I can see MS enabling copilot automatically like they did with the “Edge has a checkbox that’s enabled by default that imports all bookmarks automatically from other browsers”
