  • This is a demo/review of the Fireside Harp Kit by Backyard Music.
You can find them at www.backyardmus...
I bought it as a kit, since that makes it SO inexpensive for a harp (approx $170.00 USD w/shipping at time of purchase). Assembly is pretty simple, and the instructions included are clear.
Dimensions are 32" tall, 20" deep (I was wrong in the video when I said 23"!)
4" wide top of soundbox, 12" wide at the base.
I had it propped on a stool during the video because it's too tall to be a lap harp for me.
Supplies you will need in order to finish the kit:
    80-grit (and possibly higher) sandpaper
Tung oil or other wood finish of your choice, and proper application equipment.
    Wood glue
    Damp cloth
Clamps/weights/zip ties (to hold soundbox together as glue dries)
Paint and brush-- they suggest latex-based (I used Krylon spray paint, and acrylic paints for the decorations)
    Hammer
    Phillips screwdriver
Wire cutters (to clip strings while installing)
I have purchased a few of these harps, in order to build (literally!) a harp circle with some friends. I owned a harp with a cardboard soundbox a few years ago, and was amazed at its durability and sweet sound. I played it outside in a light mist once (by accident) and it was fine with a quick wipe-down! In my opinion, this is the best harp sound for this price point (kit price). Honestly, my cardboard harp sounded better than my first small Mid-East/Roosebeck/rosewood harp. And that rosewood one was over twice the cost of this kit.
PS-Anybody else get flustered when they have to TALK to the camera?? This is why I usually just play.
