Those cardboard harps sound great. People often forget that cardboard resonates better than a lot of woods. Nice comparison Molly. I managed to talk Aklot into sending me one of those 15 string harps to review. I’m anxious to review it.
I think I really like the sound of the Cardboard Harp. I look forward to hearing how it sounds double strung. I am considering eventually getting the Waring Double Strung Harp Kit too. Right now, I am enjoying my Ravenna 34 which I got yesterday!
Yay! I absolutely adore my Ravenna. The cardboard harp kit has been so much fun to put together, though I've learned a few things that make me want to try again, haha!
@@MusicalMollyKhan Haha, I wouldn't know! It looks like you did a good job putting it together. It looks perfect to me! Oh, and I got my Ravenna 34 from the Vermont Violins Rent to Own Program like you did and when I was asked how I heard about them, I did mention you. In fact, in the email mentioning my harp was on the way, they linked your unboxing video!
So happy you included the aklot harp! Ordered it a few days ago, and can't wait to arrive. It's my first harp so I'm excited to see how it's going to perform! This song sound so majestic on harp...I just can't (what's the name of this song/arrangement btw?). Also, you have a charming laugh!
The Aklot, when restrung, sounds pretty good. Too bad there's no room for levers, though. I've heard Fireside cardboard harps, and I do think that they sound quite nice--plus, there's room for levers.
Hi Molly, i have several questions for you I’m hoping you’d take the time to answer for me. ☺️ First why did you sell your harpsickle? Was it to move up into a fullsickle or limited edition? I was wondering did you changed all of the strings on the Aklot or did you just change the F and C strings? Did you use nylon replacements? Also is there a specific brand of strings you used? I bought the 16 string lyre and quickly decided I want to learn harp. I’m already a musician but play flute.
Great questions! I sold my Harpsicle when I got a Grand Harpsicle, the 33 string version. I am contemplating getting another small one though, it's just so lovely to have such a portable harp on hand! I did change all the strings, I contacted Robinson's Harp Shop to get what I needed; you can also try the MusicMakers website. My friend Kale runs the YT channel Poorness Studios and I believe he has a string chart for the Aklot harp as well 😊 I also started on flute (even majored in flute in college) before I moved to harp! It's so much fun to journey through the music world and find things you truly love ❤️
Nice comparison of small harps! My little allot arrived this week! Strings are almost holding their tune. Hoping it will travel well as my carry on in a few weeks. Where did you get replacement strings?
I order my harp strings through Robinson's Harp Shop, just Google and you'll find them :). They have string charts for most harps so can send you the right thickness of string.
@@MusicalMollyKhan Since you have changed your strings, could you post what gauges you went with for each string? Oddly, Robinson's (the west coast shop) didn't have that info.
@@ShelleyE honestly I don't know if they have! I happen to have a few extra string sets lying around and so I had the gauges I needed without contacting Robinson's. I'm surprised they don't, but I'll send the specs along to them too just in case :)
It is cute! I let my 2 year old play with it as it is definitely not a musical instrument 😅 I bought it used so I'm not sure where you would get one new, sorry!
Yes, so the way it worked when I did it was you would pay the monthly rental rate for 24 months, and then you would own the harp free and clear. There's also the option to pay it off at any time! 😊
I've always been so curious about many of these small harps, really enjoyed this comparison! Was shocked at how decent the cardboard one sounded.
It really is a pretty harp!

I hope you enjoy it, it's such a great little harp! I didn't know that about cardboard, how interesting. Thank you :)
That surprised me.. I think in a sound room, with the right song, that cardboard harp would surprise many people.. Tkx Molly
You seriously deserve more followers. So informative
Thank you :) I'm hopeful my channel will keep growing!

5:52, good timing, musical baby!
Haha, he loves it :D

That's so exciting! I hope you love it :) The song is Simple Gifts, arranged by Laurie Riley in the book You Can Teach Yourself Lever Harp.

It really does! I'm consistently impressed with the Aklot. I did get a Fireside after recording this video and I love it much more than the Waring 😊
Great review of these small harps. Thanks!
I like the blue harp with the sea animals .

What are the new strings you put on the Aklot harp and are they available for purchase?
Look under Sharon Cullen Arts comment and you will see her response I was looking for that too... best of luck
Love my aklot..it holds its tune really well..(apart from some strings being wrong colour lol)
It is a really great little harp! Glad you like yours :)
Hello :) where did you purchase the eight strings rose wood pakistanaise one please ? :) it is so cute!

Hmm... I would love something like this, but buying a harp is expensive... Also, how does the rental program at Vermont Violins work...?
Do you have to pay the rental rate every month for 24 months?

Does your aklot go out of tune every day? Mine does.
I encountered this issue and I think this video might help you 😊 ua-cam.com/video/nVLAXZlPTM0/v-deo.html
@@MusicalMollyKhan very cool. I had mine a week did all that and it is a lot better but still have to fix a flat alot haha.
Sharpsickle 26 strings for me...... Then the cardboard harp next
Eh the rose wood of Pakistan for the leprechaun in all of us. Now if we sent them hawthorne vine we have something that paddy would be proud of.
Haha! 🤣
