Are Durock stabs good out of the box?
This is extremely high quality content for a small channel and I’m genuinely hoping your channel grows to numbers far exceeding your expectations. Keep up the fantastic work lucid on these incredible videos!
This is so satisfying to watch and it includes everything we need to know about stab mods. Always looking forward to you guys' videos!
Been waiting for this Stab mod explained video! Concise information and perfect production as always!
Excellent timing on this video; been looking at your vids a lot lately and have been wanting to try the clear tape mod on some stabs in hopes it will go better than the holee mod I tried recently. Nice to get some better perspective on this sorta stuff prior to diving in further, and with all the information presented at such a high quality no less.
Extremely thorough video! I've been in the hobby for a couple of years and nothing is more irritating during the build process than stab tuning. Glad to see that there's finally some innovation in the space by TX, OwLab and AEBoards/Zambumon
Your videos are always both super informative and relaxing at the same time 💛
I really like these comparison and explanation videos!
i love it when you did your research, not like other youtubers who doesn't give credits who really invented those stuff, specially hole-e mod.. all credits to TET and long tran spacebar guy
wow, waking up and seeing a new upload from nearLucid makes my day so much better
New nearLucid vid! Amazing quality as always!
Amazing quality as always!
damn, that was the comfiest watch ever, the editing was superb, 10/10 learned something new
Fantastic compilation. Please do more
Gonna be building my first board soon so this is perfect
Good luck! I really wish these mods and stabs were around when I was getting into the hobby haha
@@nearLucid same here, ive been blessed thank u
Same, everything except the board already arrived 😬
@@0luc83 im still waiting for the board and caps.
Same
I use waterproof plastic bandaids in my C3 stabs. Sounds completely clean and has stood the test of time.
Super informative and high quality, thanks :)
so clean as always :o
epsi mod is easier when you use the included stabilizer pad extra bits from deskeys that already have an adhesive applied. That small extra sheet probably works for multiple keyboards. My guess is about six 60% boards. Very easy to use and very effective
Most underrated keyboard creator rn
I needed this video thank u soo much!
Great video! As I try relubing my Durocks and twisting wires for the nth time, you have given me hope! Quick question re the new TX V3s: do you need to lube them or should they be used stock?
Great video man 10/10
This is what I've been wanting
I'm super new to mechanical keyboards. I just bought my first mechanical keyboard less than a month ago. It was prebuilt. I just manually lubed my switches a week ago because they were really inconsistent. Then, I decided to do something about the spacebar, because it was so clacky. I was able to reduce a lot of the rattling with the bandaid mod around the plate, because I have clip on stabs. I did the holee mod too, but had to remove it because my spacebar would get stuck and wouldn't bounce all the way back. But without the rattling around the plate, I noticed that my space bar would tick. It was driving me crazy, so instead of the holee mod, I tried the shrink tube and it worked. My spacebar doesn't rattle nor tick anymore but... now it's super mushy 😭
Maybe my bandaids are just too thick?
you should pick up the c3 v3 stabs! it comes with these foam kits which are pretty cool :))
My everglide v3 plate mount's housing is too tight, so if i use band-aid to Holee mod, it wouldn't even function as a stab. So i have to use Medical tape, which is quite thin, but it actually worked. no rattle and ticking anymore
And the brand new SKATE MOD: 7:46
Ayy my boi tet made it into the video.
2:21 OK so the space matters, hence you could probably either get a couple of layers of medical tape for extra cushioning (or whatever tape is soft but ever so slightly firm that works best) but put some aluminium tape underneath if that is a bit too thick. 2:36 Although maybe you want to put aluminium tape on top so as not to have it frey.
Cookie curls’ stab mod is super nice
Holee mod has an updated version with electrical tape
helpful video! just linked a friend to the Holee mod section lol
another great vid!
Just got my first custom keyboard and going to install durock v2. What mod, if any, would you apply to the stabs? I have no previous experience modding.
now im going to do every single one in one keyboard.
I didnt have a bandage but found that I could use duck tape and i think it's the best of both worlds and easy to put in like the bandage.
as for the bandaid/holee mod, would gaffers tape work instead? I just have some laying around so this would same me some time and money, rather than going out and buying some bandaids. I also have some fabric-like tape as well
ME: "Excellent and super helpful video!"

Another great video!
I picked up some Staebies, looking forward to trying them out. Any tips for lubing them?
Tempest made a comment here about that but it got autodeleted by UA-cam. Balancing the wires and 205g0 should be all you need.
came back on this video and I think "The History of Stabilizer mods" would kinda be cool, clickbiat but cool
Solid summary
appreciate u using my beats bro
Does the wire bandaid mod work on plate mount stabs?
allright guys, I need clip in stabs for my Portal 65. Whats my best option?
why is there so little plate mount stabs for you to choose?
Nice vid your going places
So what's the best screw in stab to get?
I love this video
bro i was just modding my stabs and just open youtube and see this 😂
Does holee modding remove the need to wire balance?
holy sht this is incredible
What is everyone’s favorite mod for ease of use and efficiency, while also factoring in not having to buy anything more? I.e bandaids are good, but heat shrink is not really preferred.
i would just use holee with medical tape, 205g0 on housing and wires
hey man, im guessing its not really feasible to try to do both holee mod and clear tape at the same time right? sorry if this is a stupid comment but yeah
there is another downside of holee. That is the band aid itself can wear off after 2-3 moths depending how sticky your band aid is. I'm now experienced that issue and that is annoying.
I have been going back & fourth with a twisted bar.. all im doing is swapping its side xD
I made a jig so i can be very precise in my twisting.
& it sux! Lol i think ill just have to live with it now
from Long Tran with love
great video, the liquid metal wire breaking looks painful tho
I would be traumatized if that happened to me
Is pe foam louder than tempest mod?
all my homes love nearLucid
Mmmmm TX stabs/staebies please restock soon...
Is there any reason why there's no bandaid for the bottom part of the stabilizer stem in the holee mod like the dry hump?
Way too much material. Just a bandaid on the top part is already mushy if done improperly.
jokes on you. I use a 40% with 1u spacebars so I dont even have stabilizers lol
the vid is so high quality its lagging
(it looks amazing)
plot twist: the lag is unintentional its just my computer dying
Still waited for TX stabs review 🤣
ty
its so good i wish i have 4k
Aqua king review?
fantastic
freaky ah mod names 💀
Lord and savior NearLucid saving me from chemistry
nice giving credit for the modmakers me like that
Wait… are TX products originative from RAMA?
ok nvm im retarded
u deserve 100k minimum
Tailor's mod by long tran?
Great video! Quick question, does using dielectric grease + holee mod on the stabs make it too mushy?
yes.*
*if you add a normal amount, yes, it will be very mushy. i might try adding less than normal, bc i have seen people do it. i would just use 205g0 to be safe
Are any of these mods only viable if done on pcb-mounted stabs versus plate-mounted stabs? Wondering how much harder it would be, if at all, to implement these mods well on plate-mounted stabs.
They should all work the same since the mods pertain to the stems and wires
TX are my favorite so far.
Notification gang where ya at
Wire balancing idk
you should cover the plumbers mod, easy to do and quick
He did
why dont more plate support both cherry and costar stabs
costars are very rattly and hard to tune :(
@@nearLucid wut... what costars have you used? any board with costars Ive ever used are 100% rattle free without any of these weird mods.
And this video is literally about how hard cherry stabs are to tune. 🤨
cool
WIRES ARE BENDABLE RIGHT
instant regret
Why do people still have to tinker with their stabilizers, how come it's not a problem that's been solved for good a long time ago if so many people have come up with solutions over the years? Aren't there any stabilizers that are properly made and quiet out of the box?
What Taeha currently using?
Taeha only uses lube, and if you want to go that route, I would recommend picking up XHT-BDZ / Dielectric grease for wires and spending a good bit of time balancing the wires beforehand. like, half an hour to an hour, if you don't want rattling or ticking to come back. Also, I like to pre-lube the stem (same as in durian softjojo's clear tape tutorial) by putting thick lube in the stem mouth before putting the stem there, kind of like plugging the butt but before installing the stem.
Next: costar
at this point I think people should just make w i d e switches and ditch stabs lol 6.25u cherry mx when?
What is the bestest stabilizer. Im choosing between glorius stabilizer and massddrop stabilizer any help thanks !!1!!1 and what is difference between razr stabilizer and glorious, how bandaid mod?/
I agree
make sure to ask us to subscribe
why cant we just have more than one switches under those keys to support them, eliminate stabilizer at all. ik cost is one issue, but ppl after this is not gonna care few more extra switches.
i always feel like lube in an open area (not inside a switch) is not a long term solution and it is just not elegant from engineering point of view. I stand the same view as OP's, innovation is absolutely the key of this problem, all those mods, tapes is just not it for me.
W
I agree, I always thought using switches would be a way more consistent and controllable design. I can see why people have not designed these yet tho. One reason is the new switch would have to be thin enough to take up the same space as the stabs in order to maintain compatibility with the keebs and caps that people own already, but this seems doable. I'm not a mechanical engineer, so it may be easier said than done to accomplish that and achieve the desirable qualities of a 'normal switch' with a thinner 'stab switch'.
Where it might get tricky is trying to design the switch so that it provides the same quality pushback as a normal switch, but does not result in an undesirable increase to the weight of the key it is used for. A workaround to this would be to swap out the 'normal switch' spring for one with lesser weight, and spreading the work of the springs across the 'normal switch' and the 'stab switches' for a non-heavy and consistent feel across the keycap (but that would just be another mod that needs to be done lol).
Anyways, it seems like there is potential for a 'stab switch' that will be made someday, so long as someone steps up to be the person to do it.
lol i always get no rattle without using any mods lol just use lube
I don't understand the keyboard communities preference for cherry stabilizers despite all the struggles and issues with them when costar stabs are so simple and don't really rattle. Even unlubed. It's just kind of strange that all these mods and workarounds people have come up with to fix the an inferior stabilizer design, even companies trying to reinvent the same design, when a far better performing alternative that has existed since for decades is already right there. And people brush it off because they're not as convenient or whatever.
Dang. Didn't know that there's a lot of these stabilizers mods. Nice ^^
For my stabilizers, I use the band aid mod, but with A4 paper instead of band aid.
Works really well actually.
whats up with the sus names of the mods???
“Working with stabilizers can be tricky”
Me, just finishing up a 6-hour session of cleaning, ultrasounding, balancing, and re-tuning a 75%: *NOT FALSE*
(Also, don’t forget about the fact that if your stabilizers need to be redone and have grease/oil on them, your experiences with any form of mod involving HOLEE-esque methods is gonna be HELL)
felt.
I recently tried holee modding some stabs for the first time with band-aid and they turned out really poorly, so I removed the band-aids and attempted to clean off all the grease and such by rinsing each component of the stabs in hot water and soap. I would like to try the clear tape mod next. Do you have any advice on how to get the housings into as good enough of condition prior to attempting this so that I can hopefully make the process less "hellish"? I don't mind going in with the tweezers and carefully scooping out any grease that I can from each part, but I'm curious about what you might recommend. Thanks!
@@bidoofus7921 hi, just released a tutorial on my channel on cleaning stabs. has worked really well when trying out new mods on the stabs :)
