Hope you all enjoyed the build as much as I did! I'm going to be doing my first UA-cam live stream today at 12:30edt so come hang out. Also let me know if you think a no damage run with this build would be fun 🛡🛡
Just so you know, you can't be guard broken while shield bashing. Even with 0 stamina. As you might be able to tell, it even negated Rennala's summon knockback.
Whoever edits these videos is unbelievable. This isn't a 4.5+ hour upload of some uncut VOD, this entire thing is edited and not minimally either. I mean even individual fights are edited, and additional on-screen information like literally making that calculation at 40:08 and adding it on screen, many many people would not go through such effort on VODs this long.
I was literally just thinking that myself right as I saw your comment. I only found him last week and ended up watching a video last night that was like hours long. Only to see this video now today and obviously notice it’s also ridiculously long to lead me to checking and realizing all of Gino’s vids are quite long. It really shouldn’t have confused me that much but I swear the length is notable
It hadn’t occurred to me how insane it is to have a flamethrower with guard frames active for 100% of the attack. I really have been sleeping on shields this whole time.
To be fair, as someone who played a shield build on day 1, the damage of the flamethrower used to be absolutely terrible until it got buffed around the same time that a lot of the guard boost buffs got nerfed so I can see why people slept on it. But yeah, Big shields were and still are pretty broken in this game. RIP the old days when Fingerprint Stone Shield fully upgraded with the Greatshield Talisman would give you 100 guard boost, though. I remember them fondly.
shields, especially greatshields, are VERY good. most challenge runners don't use them since they cheese so much of the game, and arn't a great showcase of high ability like glass cannon builds are. they allow low skill players like me to get through very tricky parts of the game without too much trouble. honestly they are probably more newbie friendly than ash summons, since they are useful in far more situations. all that said, yeah, they are extremely powerful in the hands of strong players as well.
I love this game so much. 90% of this video can be summed up by "extremely good Elden Ring player says XYZ is probably going to be bad and gets completely blown away by how borderline broken it is". Every "souls" game has this "any weapon can be good in the right hands" approach but this game... This game lets you do almost anything you want and still have it obliterate even end game content.
You’re just missing the fact that it’s more like every class has at least a few OP items. But there are plenty of mediocre or otherwise not good potential builds. Ginos always putting so much effort into maximizing the builds despite the restrictions. That end game content keeps obliterating me despite my best efforts otherwise lol
When I first heard that Elden Ring was going to have powerstancing like Dark Souls 2, I immediately got so excited about the prospect of doing a shield-build. Huge shout out to Gino’s editor for the 23 hours of footage he sifted through. I don’t know that I have ever watched a video this long without skipping through some of it. Playing as a tank is so much fun. Normally games don't care so much about defensive playstyles so the best thing you can tank is a bunch of small mobs, which is fun in its own right, but it's even better when you can eat big boss damage like it's nothing.
1:06:55 i noticed a lot of enemies in the game do this when I did a shield playthough. Their input reading script reacts to your block but if you don't stop blocking they just keep looping the script and the second you drop your guard it triggers a different move. I've seen BKA's, Margit/Morgott and in the later game the kindred of rot and cleanrot knights. I'm sure others have the issue but it is especially apparent with those enemies.

I stubbled upon these unique build run videos recently, great content. Oddly, one of the things I've enjoyed is watching the seasons change through the windows behind you.
Did some math and estimations based on the weight of weapons historically compared to the weight value in Elden Ring. This gear is ~85-90 lbs of gear ( 35.5-40.8 kg). For reference, a historically accurate full plate set up like a knight would wear is 45-55 lbs (20-25kg).
If you like Golden Retaliation, you should try VaatiVidya's Retaliation Paladin build, which combines Triple Rings of Light with the the Erdtree Greatshield to parry your own returning rings, hitting the enemy up to three times. Pretty smart and fun.

Did me and whoever read this comment just spend a sixth of our day watching this? Yes, will I watch another one of Ginos videos right after this? Also yes.
This was really cool. Watching you go from, "I literally don't see the point in blocking" to barely, if ever, dodging for the rest of the run because blocking is actually kind of OP. lol Seems like you learned a lot here, and that's always fun to watch. Eventually you'll have done every build and know everything there is to know about this game. But, for now you still ask your stream where to get Crab, and that shit is funny to me. You have all this high level game knowledge that I couldn't even approach, and then things that I consider part of the basic progression of the game you aren't even aware of. lmfao It really just shows how many vastly different ways there are to play this game... and that there's SO MUCH to learn about it.
lol Also, you seem to have forgotten about Barricade Shield pretty much immediately. lol That's why the first Misbegotten broke his arm on your shield, but the one in the duo with Tricia did not. You weren't getting those hefty Tier 4 blocks.
Bit of a shame you didn't do the Corhyn questline to complete the shield build. I would've liked to see how the Immutable Shield buff would've performed on Moghy boy since it lets your shield block status buildup as well.
Recently been getting back into elden ring after completing it once about a year ago cause I’ve been watching these super interesting challenge runs, right now I’m doing a”true vagabond” run where I can only use/upgrade the starting equipment I’m given

This was really cool. Watching you go from, "I literally don't see the point in blocking" to barely, if ever, dodging for the rest of the run because blocking is actually kind of OP. lol
Seems like you learned a lot here, and that's always fun to watch.
Eventually you'll have done every build and know everything there is to know about this game. But, for now you still ask your stream where to get Crab, and that shit is funny to me. You have all this high level game knowledge that I couldn't even approach, and then things that I consider part of the basic progression of the game you aren't even aware of. lmfao
It really just shows how many vastly different ways there are to play this game... and that there's SO MUCH to learn about it.
lol Also, you seem to have forgotten about Barricade Shield pretty much immediately. lol
That's why the first Misbegotten broke his arm on your shield, but the one in the duo with Tricia did not. You weren't getting those hefty Tier 4 blocks.
Pov- defence is the best offence
YEEESSS I have been waiting SO LONG for this run from Gino
Bit of a shame you didn't do the Corhyn questline to complete the shield build. I would've liked to see how the Immutable Shield buff would've performed on Moghy boy since it lets your shield block status buildup as well.
Bits and pieces over 4 days but i watched the whole thing, great work
This guy's cracked
This was a fun run to watch, and the pvp at the end was suprising to watch how good the shields can be
You know I am kinda sad we dont get the Fire Giants bowl as a shield.
"every single build to this point has focused primarily on offence"
says the guy who beat fire giant to death with his bare fists
Welp got some things I’m supposed to do today. Not anymore I guess
I work graveyard and this uploaded just as I get into bed, thanks for giving me something to pass out to for the next few days !
Nearly 5 hours?! Gino has blessed our souls.
Great video Gino!!
Also, I hope the DLC adds the Doors from DS3 or something similar. That was a fun shield weapon
Recently been getting back into elden ring after completing it once about a year ago cause I’ve been watching these super interesting challenge runs, right now I’m doing a”true vagabond” run where I can only use/upgrade the starting equipment I’m given
sick girlfriend brag....
This editor makes your content absolutely incredible
Yes! I’ve been waiting for this
"You're up against the wall, and I, am the fcking wall!"
What a great show, and pvp at the end was soooo funny 😂💪, thx for that content!! 🍿👍
26:20 greatshields and guard counters are actually how i managed to no-hit alecto during my rl1 playthrough. they're insane
Who would win? A crucible knight with years of combat experience and powers? Or a tarnished who just woke up and grabbed some shields?
This dude making me feel bad for the NPCs
Love you, Gino. What a great start of the day.
This run was probably the most fun to watch of all your runs
I WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS LETS GO
I wish it was possible to like the same video many times. This is pure gold! Super fun! Your videos inspire me trying new stuff in Elden Ring over and over again. Thank you!
