    Also, for those still thinking "Why crew the Connie when they could bring their own ships?", the answer is fuel. One fully crewed Connie will use considerably less fuel than bringing a Connie + other ships.
    Another reason, is the ability for the crew to manage ship systems and conduct repairs mid-battle.
    I think there will be considerable efficiency gains to crewing larger ships, in general, rather than every individual bringing their own smaller ship.

    • @chobai9996
      @chobai9996 2 роки тому +3

      Plus when the new damage model system is when when there's no more HP bar for the ship, instead every ship and vehicle will have the materials that make up the ship react to stresses in different ways depending on the tolerances of each little piece of the ship. No more hitting a single spot on a ship over and over and just blowing it up... instead, you'll have to 'eat' through the armour and hull of a ship to take out components and the connections between those components. This will not only make things more immersive as decompression, gaseous environments, and fire will be a thing, but also make combat more strategic and just better overall; not to mention the engineering gameplay loop as well where you'd need to maintain ship systems and repair things on the fly. Theoretically a ship could be filled with holes like Swiss cheese and be fine if they miss components, or..you could take out someone relatively quickly if you aim for the right part of the ship and destroy their reactor or thrusters.
      Anyways, what this all means for medium ships like the Connie and larger ones that they will generally have more armour and hull thickness than small fighters, they will be able to withstand more damage, while a well placed shot to an Arrow could result in a ballistic shot going right through the cockpit and killing the pilot, or shearing through the middle of the ship and hitting the power supply and rendering it dead in space.

    The best usecase I see for the connie is mining in the Pyro system. You scan and scout with the connie and merlin until you find a cave or cluster of harvestables. When you find a good spot, you drop off the ROC (i thought it could fit two) and start mining, while the merlin and connie secure the location. When you have to log off, everyone merges with the connie and you park it in orbit, go to bed.

    As much as I'm glad to hear that some work has been done, I'm not willing to consider the ship "fixed" until they actually fix the issues with it. Such as the bottom nacelle guns you mentioned. Those are supposed to support S5 guns too. This was a pledge promise and has been thoroughly documented by the community not only as an issue, but also with suggestions for how to fix it and after CIG themselves confirming the issue and saying they would fix it. For CIG not to address it while they were actually working on the ship after years of players already waiting is ridiculous. It's one thing not to address it for years, when you're working on other parts of the game. It's another not to address when when you're already actually working on it. For that matter, they didn't address the "center" struts obstructing players view, after Cruz already promising to address it in a recent SCL. In fact, it seems like they didn't really address anything the community has been actively complaining about for years. If you're already working on the ship, why would you not take the opportunity to fix the long standing issues with the ship and completely ignore the community in the process.

    2 size 5 distortion repeaters and 2 size 4 pretty much anything else makes short work of hammerheads in PVE. I really like the connie, always have and I'm glad the worst issues are getting resolved. I won a few PVP fights in it as well using auto gimbals. This was all solo, filling the 2 gun slots and having the snub fighter would make the connie definitely a dangerous ship. It's also got diversity as you said with big cargo, room for a car. My biggest gripe with the Connie and especially the Andromeda is the look of the doors with those ugly orange stripes, the bad crew quarters with the elevator just in the middle of it and the waste of space at the tail of the ship where you literally have an empty room before entering the Merlin room. They could have placed the elevator there and make it a decompression chamber for both the Merlin and the entrance of the ship plus added some suit and armor cabins/weapon racks to actually make it look something either than an empty box.

    Little story about me and my Andromeda:
    Before this patch, in fact, before the Hammerhead was even heard about, I used my Constellation Andromeda as a training ship for newcomers to the verse. I loved it because it had the basics of a mobile home, with a cargo bay, and weapons. We didn’t win all of our encounters, but a lot of new players told me how much fun they had just flying about in a large ship.
    Now that it’s getting well deserved TLC with the new systems, I’ll be happy to restart that experience.

  • @JB_Hobbies
    @JB_Hobbies 3 роки тому

    Subliminal posted a video where the Connie shredded an npc hammerhead in less than 15 seconds when it had some distortion weapons on the pilot guns. I think it was two s4 distortion + 2 laser repeaters. In my experience, a Connie can go all day against an npc hammerhead if maneuvering in decoupled mode. Basically it puts the main thrusters to work on turns, which allow you to circle the hh faster than the turret fire can track you. Even before the shield hole fix, the Connie was a perfect npc bounty ship because even soloing you could out-snipe everything until you got to the hammerheads. Now that shields are fixed, all bounties before ERTs are going to be on easy mode (I mean, they kinda already were) because the Connnie will be undamageable and unkillable, which means you can do bounties one after another without having to repair.

    A ship that takes 3 crew should be at its most efficient when crewed by 3 people: assume that the first person is the pilot, most of the usable potential is thus manouvering, and the ship this can't compete with ships that are designed to be combat ships with a single pilot. But the second it gets a second player, it should become more efficient, and be able to hold its own against 2 separate player combat ships, at least, if not more

    While the Coni's need a general update (like a lot of older ships) the last BIG problem with the Coni post 3.13 is the cargo bay. The cargo bay is made in such a way that the top half becomes dead space if a rover is place inside. This is especially a problem Constellation Aquila which not only doesn't need that much cargo space but it A) will 90% of the time have a rover in the Bay making the upper cargo area dead space, and B) lack many of the facilities expected of a Explorer.
    My Answer would be to give the Aquila a deck layout like the Phoenix fill with the equipment needed for exploration. As for the Andromeda I give it a hanging cargo area (so you can hold cargo and a rover) or Phoenix like layout with expanded work space.

    I had a Connie for a long time, but traded up to the MSR. That ship has taken the place of both my Connie and Fat Max. Having a snub fighter to deploy would be nice, but the MSR is tough, maneuverable, fast and can still carry a ton of cargo.
    Morph, the Connie is a good ship on paper, as you said, but it is a bus. Big, heavy, slow and still squishy. If the squishy issue could be fixed, it could be a great ship. Use the snub fighter to harass and distract the enemy while the Connie soaks damage and deals it out. That would be my dream.

    As always jaw dropping, beautiful footage, a great overall experience with the ship.
    As for my thoughts?
    1. The prob with the Connie, is it's the only kid its age on the playground. Atleast until the 400i and the Corsair show up.
    It's too slow to fight smaller ships, and not tough enough to fight bigger ships. And the only ships its size are either PVP meta ships like the Vanguards, or the freaking Retaliator XD
    When the verse is filled with more ships like it, it won't feel singled out and have the perception of weakness, right now it just conceptually has a big bullseye shaped spotlight on it.
    2. Even with appropriate ships coming to finally stop it standing alone in an awkward niche, it's designated a 'merchant navy' vessel in the lore. So it shouldn't fight alone, it should fight as a convoy.
    A. It should hang back in a group, guarding the bulk cargo ships with long range gun and missile support, and shooting down torps with the turrets.
    B. There should be a swarm of P52's and P72's as a result, but they should primary 1 ship at a time, and also not get in the way of the real escort fighters.
    C. Seriously, bring real fighters too, Defenders are neat, my cousins nephew knows a Banu dealership XD

    I ended up switching from my Harb to my Connie for BHing in 3.12. The Harb was more durable, but the Connie with M7As on the top mounts could kill even Valks before they got close enough to fire back. Fairly stealthy with Sukorans too. I just found it far more efficient for everything save ERTs with an Eclipse. Like many, I've had a love/hate relationship with the Connie and melted it more times than I can count. It's finally in a decent place. Haven't played with the lift yet. Started using my MSR for ground mining since it has sensors comparable to the Cutty Red/Terrapin, while none of the Connies do.

    It was pretty cool to see an SC ship in VR and be able to walk around it in lifesize scale, but i do think its a bit rude (and illegal) to just take an asset from a different game and call it your own.

    I'm sorry, but IMHO the connie needs a full rework, simply tweaking its numbers for shield and weapon strength ain't gonna cut it!
    I think it needs to be wider (it needs more internal volume, like the connie phoenix), and it needs a few more remote turrets for full 360 coverage (since its maneuverability isn't so good).
    I personally believe this ship is too small to have a snub fighter docked with it, use remote attack drones instead. Save snub fighters for larger ships, like the Caterpillar.
    Ships larger than the Caterpillar, like the 890 Jump, could even have 2 snub fighters!
    Cosmetic changes I want to see include - the silly lifting fans have got to go, and there are too many greebles on the hull (you don't have to remove them entirely, just tone it down a bit).
    Also, the struts on the front windscreen are too thick, make them thinner so they don't obstruct the view (again, you don't have to remove them entirely, just tone it down a bit).

    So, as a counterpoint to the usefulness of the Merlin or Archimedes in combat, I think they are seriously just a blast to fly. Those ships are two of my absolute favorites to go on joyrides with, and they handle much better than something like the Razor in atmosphere. Being able to carry them with me in a Connie while I go do other tasks, or even just to carry them easily to remote locations that are too far to go without a quantum drive is just _fun._

In fact, it was easy, when you are using ballistic canons (which you should given it's terrible maneuverability) it beats the hammerhead 5 ways from sunday. of course that is with NPC Fights, do not go solo against a fully manned player HH, it doesn't matter what ship you fly.

Betrayed by the Nerf Bat and ship and feature creep, I CCU'd all of them for bigger or better. I have found a stock loadout Connie makes PVE up to HRT simple as it quickly takes out the enemy before they can get close. I also do a lot of bunker missions and I have no trouble taking out the turrets with it. However for PVP it's a different story as experienced players know how to exploit its weaknesses. It was the second ship I bought, and I was never disappointed with it. I have considered an upgrade to an MSR, but the MSR has too many doors and the "immersion" gets tedious very quickly.

    The Andromeda variant should probably have an additional remote turret to the rear, maybe a missile turret though I would find the external rack hard to service, then increase its viability as a dropship by repurposing the living space into an armoury. more compact escape pods instead of the beds and adding a few jump seats.

  • @kithsakhai
    @kithsakhai 3 роки тому

    ok, boss loadout that does need both turret gunners to be fully functional (merlin is optional)
    Shields: 1x Sukoran, 1x FR-76
    (coolers dont matter as main guns will be ballistic)
    reactor: JS-400 for the EMP resistance and restart timer)
    turret guns: 4x (2x2) distortion repeater S2s, or 4x Suckerpunch distortion cannons, either works, repeaters are easier as the main ship can be flailing around a bit and its harder to be super accurate.
    main guns: 4x C-788 ballistic cannons. these bad boys deal some sick hull damage but suffer from not working on shields as well (hence the distortions on the turrets), while the overall DPS isnt as high as 4x Revenants, they had MUCH higher sustain both in they take little power (more can be shunted to shields and engines), and much better ammo-to-overall damage ratios.
    the Merlin: its 1x gatling, and 2x neutron repeaters to pepper targets as needed (if using)
    the Archimedes: 4x neutron cannons (I found bombarding targets with 4 of these tends to be great as the ships can get inside the 600m max dps range)
    Alternatively, if you want to go all out on spending, get one A class industrial cooler, an A class military cooler, and pig out on 4x Attrition 4's (or 2 4's and 2 5's if you're comfortable with fixed) BUT the connie has a VERY hard time and its quite dangerous to get inside and stay inside the measly 300m max dps range.

    ive been taking on hammerheads solo in my connie. its all about how you engage. the trick is to pull the hammerheads out of the asteroid field, so you can maneuver at high speed and then either do fast passes or keep backstrafin at a distance of about 3km. i use c-788 and galdareens. Ive also defended against arrows and talons. Its not about how "good" a ship is, its all about what the pilot can do with said ship

    The Aquila windows need to be added to the other variants.

    The testing was interesting in this video, though I would imagine that this would not be the typical fighting style against other ships with more maneuverability than it. Especially with more enemies to deal with, ships like the Connie are going to do what I call a fighting retreat. Basically like the freelancer, you go really fast in one direction, then you decouple and fire back at the enemy while running in that direction. This way you always keep your best weaponry facing towards the threat. And rather interestingly, while doing this you can prepare quantum travel to get out of that bad spot. (If there isn’t any interdictors)

    My friend got the Andromeda before this patch came out and immediantly upgraded it to do as much aplha damage as possiable and have as much shields as possiable. He found he could easily destroy most targets in seconds and for heavier targets he just spammed his 52 missiles making the fight very easy. He never found that he was out maneuvered either being able to keep track just as easy as my fully upgraded Avenger Titan. The only issue he had with the ship is that sometimes it would randomly explode after a single shot when he had no damage but that could be because of the holes in the shield.

  • @eltreum1
    @eltreum1 3 роки тому

    I have flown this ship a long time and is my Kickstarter package. It's finally time for the Connie to shine. 3.12.x patches fixed the hull having 0 resistances which softened the nerf the shield holes made and they tweaked the flight model. It's a 60M long ship so its not supposed to handle like a dog fighting jet but not be a slug either aka Millennium Falcon. It handles well now but still feels like a proper larger ship should. It has gone down in the new sinkhole caves and launched the merlin while parked underground so its agility is good enough.
    In PTU the SDF shields fixed the holes and makes it feel tougher stock. Upgrading to military grade A shields FR7x almost triples its passive shield recharge and ups the pool to almost 50K especially overclocked. If you have the alien ship with Sukoran S2 shields putting them on the Connie and overclocking them gives almost 80k shields with 1300/hps shield recharge and 100% resistance to physical damage aka projectiles don't penetrate at least per erkul games. A Connie fitted with milspec gear and the largest guns makes it a beast and deserving of its rep as an 'old reliable'. The latest PTU patch stopped the vehicles violently bouncing on cargo elevator ramps when it moves too which will be nice.
    The ship was meant to have 4 crew. Pilot, 2 turrets, and a snub pilot/repair person when ship repairs become a thing. All multi-crew ships should be at a disadvantage if not properly crewed. The Connie like the Cutlass Black is useful enough solo but when fully crewed its the most effective. The bottom guns are S4 on gimbals and supposed to go fixed size 5 like the tops but changed/bugged for some reason a long time ago. A pair of 4s and 5s though are kinder to your coolers if you have turret gunners running and shields recharging too. I use the Industrial A grade coolers but the milspec have plenty cooling too and faster disruption recovery.
    One strategy we tried is flying it like a real AC130 gunship. It's flying a loose evasive pattern instead of dogfighting so the turret gunners can aim easier. The snub chases targets out of the rear blind spots into the turrets firing arc and if they go up front close they get hit with 2 S5 space shotguns and the gimbal 4s are gatling guns or stock lasers that will chase them back into the side firing arcs. I can take out Buccaneers solo in it even on 3.12 but that's partly due to having 52 missiles on hand and space shotguns.
    I have not tried my 'Alamo Build' on PTU yet. Basically is max tank with gunners but using all its openings for extra crew with railguns and rocket launchers to shoot out from. You can pack a couple Dragonflies in the cargo hold and launch them for extra fighter support and have a few ppl laying prone on the cargo deck so they stick to it while open in space giving 4-8 more rail gunners that are now protected by the SDF shields lol.

    always had a soft spot for the connie, especially the aquila. love that rounded front and scanning capability, I kind of miss it (was my loaner for the carrack). Whereas I love the Carrack, it always needs a good complement of 4 to 6 players to really feel like you get the most out of it, the Connie is a more modest 3 to 4 crew and it is a little more easy to get up and go anywhere without the huge bulk of the Carrack. I have an andromeda to redeemer CCU so will defo be messing around with one again... at least for a while.
