I have begun to wonder whether Little Carmine actually was the winner out of it all. He could see the cycle of violence that was unfolding, so just decided to take a step back, let them all kill each other and be there at the end to pick up the pieces. He was always in the picture when some big discussions were being held, so was always in the loop without having to get involved in the violence. Wouldn't have been surprised if the ending hadn't been Tony getting killed and it cut to Carmine lying on a lilo in his pool with a big cigar chuckling his bollox off.
