The Sopranos - Ralph Reaches Out To Johnny Sack

- Ralph beat a stripper to death which caused Tony to lash out and hit Ralph, a violation of mafia code. Tony tried to settle things by offering to have a drink with Ralph and bury the hatchet, which Ralph denied.
In this scene, Ralph reaches out to Johnny Sack for help. We also see Johnny Sack working behind the scenes to smooth things over for the betterment of business.
Johnny Sack was one of the most fascinating characters on this show. Clever, manipulative, sadistic,self-destructive and warm hearted. Also one of the best dressed.
...yet he FLIPPED...
@Zachary Jacobson ...you should remember that John was "Old School". In the old days guys were really "whacked" for such comments!#fact. ...
@Zachary Jacobson Johnny Sack was an old school Cosa Nostra mobster, and in the old days, if you would have really publicly joked about the weight of the morbidly obese wife of an underboss, especially an underboss of a Five Families' family, you would have ended up buried in a concrete pillar in a matter of days.

Agreed.
He brought up a great point..which Johnny had to bring up again to Tony 🤣
hoowah
hoer mean whore in dutch
That’s literally how we say it here in Brooklyn
Crazy how Ralph just doesn't understand why beating an innocent girl to death was a problem
None of them did, they never considered people outside their thing as equals. Only Tony ever cared about what happened to Tracee, but that's because he was a bit of a self righteous hypocrite who thought he was above them albeit with a small ounce of humanity. The other mobsters only got angry at Ralph for turning down Tony's drink.
cuz she wuz a hoooowah!
1:35
Yeah but in their morality and code her raising her hands to him is a death sentence alone , she woulda been whacked either way if it was the 40s-60s maybe even later but for sure in that period especially as she wasn't connected
@@driplerthadripper
That's why the audience rallied behind Tony. Not because Tony was right under his own rules, but because under that little ounce of humanity he shows his family and animals extended to the victim of a horrific murder, despite the obvious hypocrisy like how Tony would murder jackie jr or matt bevilaqua (arguably both more deserving of death) it never bothered Tony, yet he looked down on his own guys for doing the same. HIs hypocrisy with how Ralphie went too far is something he ended up pointing out before he died, Tony wanted to be the hero, but that's because his ego needed that to cope with his self-loathing.
I think its kind of admirable how much johnny truly loved his wife
Yep,she was pretty.
A complete weakness on his part. He couldn't get over the fact that others regarded her as obese and to be honest, disgusting.
@@robertchflynn To truly love someone unconditionally regardless of their size, whilst being one of the best mobsters...thats a strength. But his emotional attachment to what the arseholes like Ralph said about her, that was where he let his usual sharp self down. Because that would put Johnny's life in danger just hearing about it and Ralph then doing it. Especially if Ralph was dumb enough to do it - and tried to use Johnny as a shield. Taking down a boss without the okay from Carmine, would have been a death sentence for both of them.

The smoothest!! 😎
I don't know but I always loved The Smoking Scenes on Mad Men. From The Pilot Episode to The Meetings, To Happy Hour there was also a Sophistication about it. Also, there was a Scene on The UK Soap Opera EastEnders where Karen Taylor sends Tiffany Butcher and her Sister Whitney Dean to Jail for drug dealing. When she sees them going off to the Police Station she flicks her Cigarette away. Also remember how Doughboy & Ricky's Mother flicked The Cigarette when he got sent to Juvenile Hall for stealing in Boy In The Hood.

Notice how Johnny says "there are millions of dollars at stake" when trying to get Tony to ease up about Ralph. Then Carmine says the same exact thing to Johnny in season 4 to get him ease up on Ralph and he hates it so much hahahaha my god this show is a masterpiece.
The New York guys value business and money above everything. That's why they betray Phil in the end, his war against NJ is bad for business, and that's why even IF Tony dies in the ending, it wouldn't be NY since they would have no real leader in NJ to do business with, therefore they would lose a lot of money over killing one guy.
@@h.s6352 Absolutely. Plus Phil was a piece of shit. He even threatened Butch right at the end when he was on the phone with him.
H. S Read about Angelo Bruno's case. After Carlo Gambino passed away, The Chin ordered Angelo Bruno's murder to take over his rackets in Atlantic-city. That's the way they work. Btw, Johnny tells Ralph that the all Sopranos, Johnny Boy, Junior and Tony are difficult people to work with. And remember what Butch said? Hit the top 3: Tony S, Sil and Bobby B. And do the business with what's left -

but she was a whoah..
Is it ralph's fault she's a klutz?
I think you answered your question about how they sleep at night. True sociopaths.
Remember Dr Melfi reading the studying on treating sociopaths. Sociopaths show what humanity they do have in children and animals. So that's natural to them just as natural as their bad actions.
@Pepi Roni ua-cam.com/video/Cw3V6tWoQsw/v-deo.html
“If your opponent is of choleric temper, irritate him” is a quote from the Art of War, which Dr Melfi sarcastically suggested Tony should read if he wanted to be a better gang leader in season 2. David Chase made it clear that Tony was being helped become a better criminal by Dr Melfi throughout the show. Brilliant, brilliant writing.

What Johnny Sack did here was put Ralp in debt to NY, have control over the shared projects and get Tony to not even suspecting the whole manipulation (He told Tony that Ralph wanted to compromise, told Ralph Tony wants want too and suddenly both want to compromise on the terms that fit Johnny). Johnny Sack was the most intelligent gangster in the series. He played others more than anyone. And yet the one who worked for his family more than anyone. Truly an interesting character
nope, Carmine was. He didnt care about any of that personal bullshit as long as it brought money, which is the reason these gangsters exist: to bring money
Johnny *was* prior to the Ginny stuff. After that his character did a huge 180 and started making rash judgements based on personal grudges which was completely out of character IMO and one of the few times I thought The Sopranos writing was iffy.
Like the other commenter said, Carmine Sr. was truly the best mobster in the show. Smart, tactical, and kept any personal feelings completely out of it. For him and only him it truly was just business.

@@JohnLutherable Carmine died of old age as a free man. John also died of natural causes but he did while wearing an orange jumpsuit.
Sacks is mostly portrayed as being frustrated with Carmine senior and being on the verge of whacking his boss. Sacks is very clever and can scope out opportunities. But he has severe temperament issues and if angered on issues of prestige can fall into spirals of unnecessary self destruction.

Haha I know right?? The blow had nothing to do with it.....dude was a scumbag when sober.
They're all varying degrees of shitbag.
Yes but was she a huur
I mean yeah typically if you’re not a murderer you’re just sort of average. Doing Coke doesn’t really make you a bad guy just have bad judgement lol.
The way Johnny Sack smokes; it's like he's making out with the cigarette
Ralph was a great guy. He always looked out for me and gave me great advice.
But he could never take the place of your fadda
@@manbearpig7359 no. But he helped me out and gave me great ideas outta respect for my fatha
@@JackieAprileJr Can you talk more about your fadda ? We never hear enough about him. 😆😆😆
@@manbearpig7359 he was the boss of the family. He had balls and used to tease my uncle rich for loving ballet dancing. Tony looked up to him and respected him. Then he got cancer and was consoled by Mikey and Paulie with their cancer stories.
Whos that speaking? Is someone speaking here?
It’s actually crazy how many parallels this show draws between characters. When Ralph and Tony are beefing, Johnny Sack tells Ralph to apologize. He doesn’t. Shit get’s fucked up. When Ralph and Johnny Sack are beefing, Tony tells him under no circumstances to apologize. He does. Shit get’s even MORE fucked up.
Genius
"He's delighted you want to see him"....Ralphie should've known right then and there that Johnny was shining him on.
Your right He set him straight as soon as he went to far , didn’t even let him joke about wacking a boss. He should have known their that he wasn’t being treated as an equal, it’s why he got played. They both (Jonny and Tony) opened talk to each other about wacking a boss both before and after becoming one
"A: She was a hoo-uh" is the funniest line in TV history.
1:23 "New York and the Sopranos have long-standing ties, and that's not gonna change, not for you or anybody else."
...
It certainly changed for Philly "I compromised" Leotardo.
John Doe That's because Phil wanted payback for his little brother and for when Tony chased him through Brooklyn and made Phil look like a weak bitch.
How long was Phil in the can for?
grannykiller 20 Fuckin years
Whatever happened there........
@John Lorton Yes! My estimation of him as a man, just fuckin' plummeted when I found out.
Minutes later, sirens are heard as the cigarette Johnny tossed into the dead grass started a field fire, leading to the destruction of half the neighborhood, lowering land values, so that he could swoop in and purchase it all at bargain prices. This led to the creation of Esplanade II.
Sac was always a step ahead of everyone.
Ralph "It was the coke" Cifaretto
he says that all the time
He never should have started with that shit
fucking Miami...
narcissists, psychos, sociopaths and all other sick fucks never take responsibility for their actions. very common trait. "iT wAs tHe aLcoHoL!!!1101!!!"
"Carmine doesn't know who you are. He's only asking about Paulie, you know. I'm sick of it - how's Paulie, how's Paulie.. I have to drive to Jersey every week to make sure Paulie's ok."
Johnny is the only character that could have had a spinoff.
He's the Deep Criminal like Pacino in the Godfathers and DeNiro in Heat.
johnny sac was a great friend to have as far as when it comes to mobsters, he was a man of principle and it seems like he was loyal to a degree..the way he loved his wife and didnt have a goomah is evident of his loyalty. ralph really fucked up a good friendship with that jenny joke..
