Great video. Love seeing all the intricate bits and demonstration of the vast knowledge you have. Not enough to be said about going it right. Good enough ain't good enough!! Keep up the fine work, look forward to the next one.
Amazing. EVERY time I watch one of your videos, I learn something (sometimes multiple things) new.
Keep them coming !
Ross
Much much much better, thanks!!!!
Always remember it is the story and the content that matters. I dont want to be "entertained", I want to be informed. Your videos are hugely informative. Hopefully you can keep it that way :-)
Another amazing video. Love the detail you go into. Would like to see the re built
Thank you, yes I think we will video the bottom end strip down and also video the build!
I’m glad you took the sound out. I sat through it but it was difficult 😅. Much rather watch and listen to the whole strip down and your findings 👍 great video.
Loads better 👍. Fair play for reading the comments and sorting it out.
Thanks mate! Shouldn’t have been as bad as it was, we screwed up the audio in editing!
My first time watching one of your videos. Wow. Learned a ton. Had not choice but to subscribe.
Thumbs up for trying stuff out, top step on podium for then evaluating and correcting. That’s winning mindset right there 👌
Yeah we made a cock up in editing and didn’t check out work! Rookie mistake! Won’t happen again! 🙌🏼
Great video. Really interesting . Quick question how do cam variators work ? Is it oil pressure ?
I'm impressed by your knowledge pal 👍
Awesome video mate and learned so much in just 30 minutes. Thank you
Glad to hear it!
Much better Ricky, your videos are a godsend for the guys in a shed with limited resources!! when is the next Noble vid ?
Thank you!
We have put together some bits on the Noble. Maybe one before Christmas but definitely stuff in the new year as I’ve pulled the floor off!
Absolutely amazing Video Ricky. Love the detail. Not enjoyed a video like this in a while. I am a nobody in terms of a engine builder but where can I get a hoodie like in this vid from.
Thanks so much mate! 🙌🏼
Excellent , many thanks for re posting the video.
Thanks Tom!
Nice one Ricky, it's so much better and well done..👍👏
Thank you! Should never have been as it was, that was our mistake in editing!
Great video, really enjoyed the technical content, thank you
Thank you!
Very professional work!! It was really interesting to watch!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice upload. Thanks for sharing such good information.
Glad you enjoyed it Karl!
Hi guys, great video its very insightful. I’m going Stage 2 next week and just had a service and used Millers! I’m looking to get it drained ASAP, what oil would you recommend using for Stage 2 power?
Great content as always, you always get what you pay for in life 👍
Thank you! 🙌🏼
Great stuff thanks for listening to us all
It was never meant to be as bad as it was, we messed up the audio in editing and didn’t realise! Thank you!
People want to get stuff done on the cheap. I've spent about £11K on 2005 BMW 120d Auto 153K miles on replacing worn out parts. I always try to build back better - Bilstein B12 kit, top mounts, bottom mounts, poly ARB bushes, ARB droplinks, front & rear M3 tension struts + LCAs, rear subframe inserts, new injectors, turbo, uprated FMIC, steering, radiator, condensor, alternator, steering rack, track rods and ends, EGR remapped out + upped BHP to 200 and cleaned the intake. She getting a detail done for her 18th birthday...
Firstly thank you for the apology and for accepting your “trial” was a mistake.
It’s like watching a different video. Rick’s knowledge and humour is why a watch this and relax. I was screaming at the screen and wired before. I turned on captions and muted it, turning sound on when there was speech. Thanks again guys.
Yeah we wanted music in the sped up bits but we messed up the audio side in editing so took it down and just removed it all! Back to how we wanted it now! 🙌🏼
Always take things to the people who know
You’ve shown a prime example of that - clearly known what you’re doing 👌🏼
Interested in your comments on nanodrive though? Never really heard anyone not get along with it before..
Although I’m guessing you’re talking for 5W30?
Their datasheet for 5W40 shows working temp of 125°C and max limit of 150°C
Wondering if swapping to motul for my EA113 TFSI that sees track / 120-130°C a lot maybe a good move
Really good explanation of things, Ricky Is a legend
Thank you!
Such a good informative video 😎👍🏻
Thank you!
Much, much better. Nice video now! ❤️
Thank you! Gutted the last one got screwed!
Great episode thank you
Great video shocking how others can install parts wrong without checking over their work and especially the bolt thread which they butchered so many mistakes .
Yeah it’s pretty bad tbh! A shame as the customer now has to throw good money after bad!
nice Info mate , glad i use Mobil now, i nearly chose millers nano !
Fair play for editing and reposting. So much so I've just watched it all again and had to come back to leave a comment. And I'll let it play in the back ground 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you!
My dealership should give you a call. They can’t figure out what’s wrong with the engine of my 8y. It’s been at the dealer for weeks. No water damage, but some cogs are out of synch or whatever, since backing out of thick mud.
It’s a joy to watch a master of his craft.
Thank you!
This is golden thanks guys.
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Good interesting video , god knows how much it’s going to cost to put it right , it would be good to find out what the outcome is to , keep us up to date 👍
Yeah it’s will be a 10k fix tbh! Thanks for watching!
Top fellas, worth watching twice. Do you find it hard not to get distracted by the camera?
fighting the drip hard 😅 Thanks for the well informed video. Put the heating on or lay off the gear next time 😉
Brilliant video.👏👏👏
Thank you!
Thank god your back yay 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hahahah thank you!
Hey sir! Amazing video! It’s scary knowing so many people do crap work like this…. I’m considering buying a new RS3, would you suggest it? I’m in US
A lot better.....good enough reason to watch it twice.....thankyou.
Thank you! Enjoy!
Great vid Ricky, and you are the dude for this, unfortunately I’ll never afford that type of motor, but none the less Like watching!
Thank you! As long as you enjoy the vid that’s all that matter!
Same as.
Great upload, I would like to see the recovery of this engine but I guess it's down to the owner now!
Ricky, great video as always. I could listen to you for hours! So what’s the issue with Millers then? I’ve just moved to this stuff (Motorsport CFS Nanodrive 5w40) for my 440bhp Mk1 Focus RS from Fuchs Race Pro 5W40. Oil gets to around 105 - 110 degrees under a full track day set of conditions. Never had an issue with the Fuchs. Is the Millers likely to cause me issues then? Love these videos, and never saw the original one. But please….never add music….😂….cheers.
Thank you! Millers admit themselves than their oil isn’t good over 112 deg. Use 300v mate in track…..does silly temps and doesn’t split!
@@REPerformanceUK All noted. Cheers. I'll have a look on Opie Oils and chat to Tim about it. 🤘
I really like your content. An audi lover.
Thank you!
Brilliant video , nice in depth ( boils my piss companies who bodge builds as you’ve shown us )
I’ve an old cast block one with 62k on. Never mapped just shoved it in a t5 transporter van lol
Thank you, Professor.
You are very welcome
great content
Great content 👍
Thank you!
Good work predicting the issue - any idea what they were hoping to achieve by adding the shims? -is it a sketchy attempt to get more lift?
probably lifters collapsing at higher boost levels would be my guess because they also put in sleeves in the cilinders
Great video and so true on if you want a engine built. Find a proper engine builder. Pay for a professional build. Cheaper in the long run and saves time.
Exactly that mate!
I have an 2017 (ea888 230)octavia vRS at 344hp, it has the nanodrive 5e40+ oil, due a service next month, what oil would you recommend for it, i know its off topic from the rs3 but just with your mention of oil.
Thanks
I found that when I was working on a concrete floor, my knee/ankle/hip joints hurt really badly.
I think you should maybe use those foam tiles for around your working area, just so that your joints get a rest through the day.
The issue there is it’s a 5k square foot workshop so would need a lot of tiles, it’s why I wear Nike trainers instead of hard boots! Thank you!!
You listened well done, please no music. Engines are more than enough. Kudos to you…
Yeah it wasn’t meant to be like it was, the audio track got screwed up in editing and ended up dubbed over everything! Thank you!
@@REPerformanceUK To busy removing unnecessary shims……….what badgers some people are
Rick, i have always used nanodrive in my cars, i use motul in the bikes, I always want the best gear regardless of price (within reason),
would you switch to 300v on a remapped 3 litre diesel that does about 8 to 10k between oil changes, never tracked or anything but it does get beaten from time to time?
So much better, thank you
Thank you!
Love the videos but I dnt have the time for the longer ones 😢 I think it'd be better 2 30 min videos instead of an hr. Just my opinion, keep up the good work 👍
Looks like another ‘ I’ve got a mate who can do it cheaper…’ great vid bud 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!!
I ran millers in my high horsepower Tommi mak and it went black so quick and suffered from slight tappet noise only used it once changed it out never had the issue again
Yeah I’m not a fan mate!
What a pleasure to finally see another person who believes if something isn't right, it's wrong.
I'd trust you with my car, any day.
Thank you so much!!
So much better! By the way are you up for tuning a twin charged ur S4 avant on a maxxecu when I've finished it?
Thank you! Not worked with Max ecu before. Happy to chat about it!
@@REPerformanceUK Cool thanks, ill be in touch next year 👍
@@fast_eddie3441 chat then!
Isn’t your engine room 68*? You look cold… lol. Another good video my friend.
No we strip in the workshop mate, no dirt or debris in the engine room! So clean parts only in there! 😉
What viscosity is the best for DAZA stage 2 ?
Thanks you...
As has already green said, a much better video without the music 👍🏻
Thank you! We did mess up the last one as shouldn’t have been as posted! We will keep it simple in future! 🙌🏼
When you say get ride of injectors do you mean the direct injectors and replace with new oem ones ?
Nice - If I were to dump my 510hp Stage 3 RS3 8P for an engine build and big turbo / necessary other mods, what might I be looknig at please? I know it will be comfortably 5 figures anyway. :)
I have that Harris decorating scraper. It gets used for everything. :D
Hahahaha good spot! 😂
Interesting and Quality. 👏
Better without the music
Thank you!
Nice looking grey drawers with wooden tops. Who’s the manufacturer please?
MUCH BETTER! 😅
Thank you!
Where can i find the timing tools for the 2.5? amazon has some but im not sure if i should trust them?
Yep much better, couldn’t watch the other one. 👍🏻👌🏻. No fool can build these engines. Brilliant
Thank you. Our mistake! We cocked up in editing and in a rush to get it uploaded didn’t recheck our work!
Thats better. Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it! We didn’t realise how bad it was, editing cock up!
STOP YOUR WHINEING AND STICK THE HEATING ON. 😊😊😊😊
"it's like a dog's pinky in a park"
HAHAHA
(Cameraman, when you get nice closeups, do it a little bit from a distance, make sure the lighting/contrast is good, then use your editing software to zoom in again on the image.
You're ensuring you have good footage to manipulate and the resolution on that camera is good enough 👍👍 use Davinci Resolve, it's free and excellent)
Thanks for the tips! It is hard sometimes to get the zoom on parts vs focus right!
Awesome thanks
Enjoy mate!
Everyone always talks about these engines like they are bulletproof, can handle 700hp stock etc, too bad mine threw a rod through the block at 25k miles, a few weeks after the factory warranty had expired
To throw a rod was either excessive cylinder pressure or lubrication issue.
@@REPerformanceUK To be fair the car was tuned to around 520hp but with a very reputable tuning company, and was always taken care of. A few seconds before the failure I started to get knocking or some kind of misfire, and then the engine just went. There was no prior warning otherwise I would've noticed. Surprisingly it all happened while I was just cruising in a high gear and low throttle. To this day I'm not sure what happened as I decided to sell the car after the fact
Thats much better thanks, those valves on that first cylinder are very light, has that cylinder been running hot ? What else would cause that ?
Yeah it’s all over the place as the exhaust manifold is leaking at the cylinder head, cylinder 2 is rich. I think the valve seats are cut too deep, the tappet shims are forcing the valves to stay ever so slightly cracked open and the piston to wall clearance is wrong!
Thanks, wondered if it might have had something to do with that liner being low and not sealing to the head
@@alansheard553 it’s not enough to cause a loss of compression at this point and there are no signs of blow by.
But yes, if this thing was turning out proper power it would give “lifting the head” symptoms!
@@REPerformanceUK Ricky, it sounds as if it was chucked together by a blind guy with only thumbs, and one of them was up his arse!
Thanks for listening Ricky
No worries, we cocked up the audio in editing on the last one. Should never have been how it was! Will keep it simple in future! Thanks for watching it again!
Will you be rebuilding this? If so, defo a video please! 😎
Wow you can get good power out of a 2.5.. humm stick one of them in an R8.... interesting...
Fab weekend all 👍🤠
Yeah shame to throw out the V engine though!! You too Garry! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
So much better!
Thank you!
I have a 2014 TTRS . Can you replace the iron head with aluminium head to save weight?
It’s an iron block mate on those. It’s a major change tbh. Much bigger than just the block!
does huracan head work on ea855 engine?
Much better, was very hard to watch the previous video.
Yeah we made a big mistake and didn’t realise…..always check your work! 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Hey is there no video of the rattling sound?
Fantastic…..!, just as it should be…….😊
Thank you! Enjoy!
Thank god you sacked the previous creator with that music 😅 worse than any known form of torture! Previous cut was crime against humanity!
Should never have been like it was, was our mistake and we didn’t notice! Thanks for watching again!
Are newer RS3 flat-tappet head?
What’s the idea of putting shims under the hydraulic tappers please.
It’s to stop the tappet being jacked down which would open the lash. Adding shims closes the lash.
But cutting the seats and replacing the valves reduces the lash as well, so double trouble! The shim is pushed as small as it can go and there is still not enough room!
Would you be able to build one for a 1985 ford sierra ?
Yeah we have done Cosworths before!
Does anyone know how much the head tool thing was? I'm really intrigued how much.
Hahahaha it’s a pinned comment on the video mate! Go take a look! 🙌🏼
@@REPerformanceUK Thanks.
Yep all good here
Thank you!
Anyone have a rough idea of build cost? £10k+?
Is it possible - with mods - to raise rpm limit to over 8,000rpm?
Yeah just need to do the math on your valvetrain!
How much would a CZGB build cost with you guys?
All depends on the spec you want mate. Give us a call to discuss.
Do you have any experience with the 07k engines, vs daza? I'm currently building a 07k, but want help in cam setup.
07K is the NA version in the Golf right? The earlier 5 cylinder with iron block (CEPA) we have done loads of too!
@@REPerformanceUK yes, the 170 bhp that sits in the American cars. Mine is a cbua 2011.
@@ealoken is it not variable cam? Or have you converted it?
@@REPerformanceUK intake is Vario, have not converted the exhaust side. My goal is a 600-650 bhp and a long power band, on pump gas.
@@ealoken you using a variable exhaust chain wheel?
My RS3 engine has been re-built. It runs and pulls very smoothly, except that I am losing coolant at a rate of 300ml per 500km. The engine was diagnosed internally and externally multiple times with no issues (oil tests, pressure tests, spark plug examinations, etc). No coolant puddles on the ground, no coolant smell in the cabin, reservoir and caps are OEM brand new. No culprit can be found either externally or internally. I would like to ask you for your opinion before I will have the engine pulled apart in coming February 2023. What else would you suggest to look into?
Either head gasket or cracked block. Wouldn't be comfortable running that. Exhaust in coolant test? It won't be just disappearing (since this doesn't have water cooled ic right?)
Are you a sleeved or stock block?
Have you done a coolant block test?
Could be heat exchanger, head gasket, turbo or cracked block (would have other issues though).
@@REPerformanceUK
Yes, they are sleeved and coolant block test and many other tests have been carried out but to no finding. No coolant residue can be found everything. No white smoke from the exhaust. Engine has been tuned to 600HP at the crank so far and runs extremely well. That is why I am worrying that they will find nothing wrong with the engine after I have it pulled apart. But I have to do it because I have no more options.
@@ironmantooltime
Head gasket is definitely not the culprit because they had looked into that many times. The engine runs like an angel with 600HP now. Maybe cracked block, but if that is the case there could be some visual coolant residue somewhere. No residue can be found everywhere. Coolant pressure test passed with flying colors. Yet, coolant is disappearing at a rate of 300ml per 500km. If I fill the coolant into the coolant reservoir right up to the top (pass the maximum line), I can run the car for about 1000 km before I need to top up.
@@khvidtube1617 who did the liners? Sounds like the parent bore is cracked behind the liner.
Never hurts to try new things, but maybe not with a 30 min video 😉 I'll watch it again though as I want to see what I missed 🙂 Still great content either way!
Yeah we messed up with the audio and it all got out of sync. It’s completely removed now so back to how it should have been!
@@REPerformanceUK watched it again for the views - much better. Keep the great content coming.
@@jamietynanjt thank you!
which motol 300v oil do you use
Depends on what build but on R8 V10’s we use 5-30 300v.
