Garage Door Openers the 8355W-267 that’s in the video. We are having a house built and that’s what our builder installed, so I was learning about it from your video. We move in later this month.

Yeah I saw the WiFi logo on the side of the opener, I'm guessing they have an app which will allow control from a smartphone? I'll look for your next video!

2:58 You are totally right about that I try to tell that to everybody lift master and Chamberlain Anything with those type of limits they will bypass the dowel limit there was a house they were building across the street and they had it shutting too hard down and the emergency release rope and handle was installed incorrectly you do a heckuva job on every garage door insulation but with this job in particular there’s a huge gap on the bottom corner of the garage door because they just screwed it in and I can easily rip off the tracks off the wall but you are doing a great job keep up the amazing work

I unplug mine in FL over the Summer months. Thanks for the video, mine was going past the down limit that was set, and coming right back up. possible lost the memory for the limits. I just reset them, thanks to you the door is working OK now.

I am getting one of these next week. My 20 year old liftmaster started to come up as soon as it went down so I called the company I have used twice to fix it. Man came out promptly and supposedly fixed it. Two hours after he left it started doing the same thing again, but even worse. I called after hours and they sent out another tech the next day on Saturday. She worked on it for an hour and took the unit apart. Glad I was watching her! While apart and still plugged into power she must have crossed two wires with her screwdriver and there was a LARGE spark that I witnessed. It really startled her. Now not even the light bulbs work. She said it was not her fault. I have stopped payment on the check I wrote yesterday and am going with one of these, from another company.

Wow you must have got the lemon one out of the batch. We just have been using Genie for the time being and no call backs out of the 80 we have installed so far. We have a customer with the 8550 that is acting up as well. We might just change it out to a Genie to make a happy customer.

Yes, newer LiftMaster and Chamberlain models do tend to run past their down limits, Ive dealt with that on numerous occasions. I cant quite figure out why they do that either, and only the down limit does it.. I actually have a video on my channel called "New Chamberlain HD420ev that replaced a LM1160" its of a Chamberlain Chain Drive unit that I installed, and was on a door that ran a bit rough do to plastic non ball bearing Rollers the operator would run 1 or 2 inches past is down limit, and force the rail of the operator to bow up and hit the ceiling.. I tried to stop the down limit an inch short of the door hitting the floor, but then not only would the limit actually stay where it was supposed to, but because the door ran rough, the opener wouldn't push the door all the way closed.. So I had to find a happy medium and shorten the lift arm 1 hole and set the limit a to where the door just grazes the floor, and the limit ultimately ran an inch past... Even though it was still more then I like, I had to leave it. I bet played with it for 45mins or so.. Some guy even nailed me on that in the comments... lol as much as I like the electronically set limits, I miss the dials.. Also you are very correct about the light bulbs! I actually know a guy who has ties with Liftmaster, I am definitely going to suggest that to him.

Great video. It was storming yesterday and there was some lightening and thunder but the electricity didn't go out. However the sensor lights and rest of the lights weren't on. A manual override to open the garage door was used and I think the unit was unplugged and it was reset. Problem: the sensor lights and wall opener lights are fine but the motor is stuck at the top and reprogramming using those arrow buttons made it move up more (it's now touching the bolt near the overhead unit and thus can't go further up), but it won't do anything when pushing the arrow down button. No obstruction of trolley and door moves fine. The emergency release clicked back into place when I pushed the garage door all the way up to connect with the motor.

Hi, I came across your video just now, (we have a small family run garage door business) and was nice to see you talking about this opener as it is our most popular of all the Liftmaster models we sell. It was interesting to see that you pointed out some of the issues we have seen. Sometimes with this model we have had to do a few logic board replacements and the down travel limit, same issue you mentioned. Also, we have seen the travel limit modules go in a few more than we care to see so we actually carry a few of those too. Great video. I will share this with our son, I am sure he will like it too.

I have this exact opener and last week it starting giving me issues. It's only about 4 years old and never been abused honestly. It all started last week when I closed it, it no longer wanted to open.
The trolly would travel about 1-3 inches at most and go back not even enough force to open or move the door. Then the unit would just flash 5 times.
I unplugged the unit from the power and pulled the manual cord and opened and closed it. Reconnected the power and still nothing. After a few more times of me trying to opening it and it just doing those tiny pulls all of a sudden I pulled the manual cord one more time then Opened and closed it shut, when i hit the button to open instead of the trolly traveling to the open position when it was in the close position it started to go further in the closed position. This ended up causing a slight bend in the rail.
I removed the belt and tried to set the limits but when I press the up arrow to set the open limit it does nothing. Only the down arrow works which sets the closed position.
I had a company come out and look at it and of course they just want to replace the whole unit along with the rail for $900.
The arrows on the unit do flash in the following order up arrow 1 time down arrow 5 times. The manual says this can be the logic board that might need replacing.
Anyone have any insight or I'm I better of just getting a new unit?

Can these be operated with a simple button push like openers were before all the circuitry was incorporated? I don't like their Time To Close function in that there doesn't seem to be any way to passively override the auto close function. I have my own method, but it will only operate with a momentary pulse, like the old Genie's.
And here's a work-around for your lighting issue. I bought a couple of 4' LED tube fixtures and using a screw to two prong plug adapter, I light the whole garage.

We have had LiftMaster for 12 years (tornado took one @ 5 years old) both chain drive. We're upgrading to the belt drive either 8355 or 8550.

Thank you for the fast reply. We don't know which one we are getting. We asked for a LiftMaster belt drive and the installer gave us a quote. We're in our 70"s and lot of bells and whistles only make life harder. Two 8' garage doors (all sensors and wires are in) new car remotes and wall switch. $920.00 Guy said something about life time guarantee on unit and belt.

Well he's in the ball park for price. I would life time guarantee them as well. I have only worked on about 8 of them out of the 15yrs I have been installing them. With the chain drives... well I have worked on hundreds of them with the internal plastic gear that goes bad from all the vibrations from the chain it chews them up. Average life for chain drive is 10-15 years. Long live your belt drives.

he's partially correct. If you partially open the door unplug it for a bit (about a minute), it forgets the down limit. what I found is that it will continue pushing down until it trips the force setting or the guy in the room reverses the door. I dont know if they fixed the problem on current models as I have a 2014 model year 8355. I've had one unit where the force settings don't work half the time essentially the unit is audibly straining before reversing or stopping (maximum force is applied). I've also had a unit unplugged for the winter (about 3 months) and after restoring power, the limit settings were forgotten and the wall control no longer worked. when my 8360 dies I'm considering replacing it with a linear, a genie, or something that has better quality control.

From the myQ app it says there is a 1-5 error. The garage opened just fine and then got that error and won’t close. Tried detaching the door and reconnecting it with no luck. Reset the breaker with no luck. Anyone else run into this?

Ok so I got a question so me and my grandpa I have two genie Excelerator‘s on a 8 foot garage door they are been on the doors for about 19 years they are still working perfectly but my grandpa is around 78 and we need something that has less maintenance so I am thinking about a LiftMaster 8550 I heard there are some problems about them and I am wondering where I can buy them and where I can get them so I can install them in your opinion I know you installed many openers and keep up the good work and I hope you get back to me because I would like some information please thank you and keep up the good work on your openers .

So at this time and place I would say the Liftmaster 8550 is your best option. I have had one problem with the 8550 on a 18X8 when a customer lost power it would not close on the battery back up it would have a error saying force detected we solved it by putting pusher springs on it. I got some different Openers I'm trying out but can't say it they are good or not yet. Hope this helps. If your looking for a 8550 your best place is a dealer just Google it. I would consider having them installing it just because if you have and problems you can make it there problem and not yours lol.
      Good luck God bless.

Once Liftmaster changed to Yellow antenna and learn button, the car has to be at least from 2012. You can also buy an aftermarket "repeater" from Liftmaster. That would make your car programmable.
