Standing tall at 6'9" and known as one of the strongest men in the world - Hafthor Bjornsson barely needs an introduction. He is the only person to win the World's Strongest Man, Europe's Strongest Man, and Arnold Strongman Classic in one year.
He is also known the world over for his performance as The Mountain in Game Of Thrones. After his successful run in strongman, he transitioned into boxing competing in an epic face-off against fellow strongman Eddie Hall.
To many, he is considered to be one of the greatest strength athletes in modern history. That's why Mike O'Hearn decided to connect with Thor to discuss his strongman origins and the mentality behind his grand success.

Thor's frame carry was always a weakness, his grip tended to give out at least once a race. If it was deadlift or weight over bar it was an automatic win for Thor. I was always surprised that while he did well on Wheel of pain he didn't dominate, I would've thought his greater size would give him an edge along with his dynamic athleticism. I guess being shorter would give others better leverage pushing upwards off the floor. Thor was dominant in loading race and did well in stones. He does have a broad range of competence in events.

I'd have to disagree on some points. Here are the reasons:
      - Thor has following Records with raw grip: 360 (794) Farmers walk for 40 meters in 24.16 seconds at 2014 SCL Serbia, 150 (331) in each hand Farmers walk for 40 meters in 17.22 seconds at 2014 SCL world finals, 160 (353) in each hand Farmers walk for 30 meters in 12.43 seconds at 2012 Arnold Europe, 400 (882) Wheelbarrow carry for 20 meters in 17.42 seconds at 2015 GL Viking challenge and also the 408 (900) Timber carry (again raw grip) world record on the 35' inclined ramp at 2018 Arnold Strongman Classic. You can't be that dominant if your grip is weak. Still his grip is world class irrespective of the nerve damage.
Agreed on the Deadlift and Weight over bar. By the time he Broke the Deadlift WR, he has already Deadlifted 453.5 (1,000) or more 13 times including both Standard bar and Elephant Bar World Records 501 (1,105) and 474 (1,045) respectively, and In my opinion is the Strongest and the Greatest Deadlifter of All time. He also has 5 tossing world records (highest keg: 12.5 kg over 8.05 m, 25 kg over 6.00 m, highest 25.5 kg one arm Highland games weight over bar at 6.17 m and Heaviest Arnold Sandbag over bar 45 kg over 15 ft) and fastest kegs: 18-25 kg 8 kegs over 4.9 meters in 16.35 seconds, and he is the greatest tosser of All time as well.
He was so gargantuan that he gassed out at the end of the Conan's wheel of pain at 2019 ASC, but it's still the 2nd furthest distance in both 2019 and 2020 tournaments, and he was only 6 inches shy of Martins Licis's WR. If he was 190 instead of 200, I'm sure he could have done another 6 feet minimum!
Thor is the Greatest Stone Lifter in history, Greatest Vehicle puller in history, Greatest loading medley champ in history as well. He has squatted more than any pro strongman in history too. His overhead power also greatly improved in his peak as well.
*It is true that prime Thor is the best and most complete Strongman in history. He did not have any major weaknesses. Everyone else in history at least had 1, but Thor did not. He is also the Strongest Man to have ever lived. Period. His WRs and other feats of strength across so many myriad events prove it. He was simply, 'world class' at every single lift and event there is in the sport, because as he rightly said, he transformed his weak points in the beginning to be his strong points when he peaked.*

@@Nirsterkur Ok, I just always saw him drop the frame at every Arnolds frame carry event at least once. He was very fast when carrying the frame though.
You pretty much agree with me on everything then.
