Fun fact about gimmick puppet giant hunter. Before the cards came to North America they were on duelling network. The original translated name for giant hunter was “serial killer” and in some internet circles a nickname of chucky floated around. So there’s that.
It's not 'Leed' Yoke, it's 'Led' Yoke, as in Lead, the metal. The weight of the yoke slows it down, which is what reduces its attack power. When an attack breaks a chunk off, it gets lighter, the monster speeds up, and its attack goes up. it's the rough equivalent of the Dragonball/Naruto weighted training clothes bit.
I used to have the same standpoint until a while ago, but after I watched the Sub of Yugioh Zexal recently, my opinion changed a bit. The Japanese name for Lead Yoke is "Leadblow the Bound Barbarian", with the "lead" audibly being pronounced the same as in "to lead" instead of as in lead the metal. A possible read for that is that the monster makes the leading punch, possibly by attacking into a stronger monster in order to force its ATK boost effect which in turn makes it a stronger threat. Or because it as an archetypal boss monster would lead the others into battle. Whatever it is, its name is quite clearly pronounced the same as in "to lead". The TCG localizations besides English on the other hand fall under one of two categories: They either don't mention the "lead" part at all, like French and Portuguese (which use phrases like "enchained" or just mention the "yoke" as their individual monster name), or mention the "lead" part as well, in which case it's unambiguous that the metal lead is the meaning that's being referred to, due to these languages not having an ambiguity for that particular word (said languages being Spanish, Italian and German). The English version however is ambiguous due to the ambiguity of the word "lead" in this language. So considering both the Japanese version, which follows the "to lead" interpretation, as well as some of the other TCG localizations, which follow the "lead the metal" interpretation, I feel like it's best to view both versions as correct in context of the English localization. So whether you say 'Led Yoke' or 'Leed Yoke' doesn't really matter I feel - both have their validity, although I slightly prefer the metal interpretation due to it making more sense and having more support across different localizations overall. Claiming one to be the strictly correct version however doesn't really work in my opinion.
@@haohryuz-arc2261 The Japanese version is 拘束蛮兵リードブロー, or "Lead Blow the Bound Barbarian". In Japanese boxing, a jab is sometimes called a "lead blow". (And yes, pronounced "Leed") This follows the pattern of all monsters being named after boxing terms - Switch-hitter, Glass jaw, counter-punch (Counterblow in JP), etc. The English translation seemingly ignored the "jab" part and only translated the concept of him being a slave-boxer "bound" by that metal yoke. That they both contain the word "Lead" may as well be a complete coincidence. However, monster names get changed all the time and we don't make a fuss. So we may as well follow their lead (hah) and pronounce it as intended - Led Yoke. (if they just changed it to Iron Yoke we wouldn't even have this confusion)
