The problem with the fasteners on top of the slab is that there is no footing under the slab in the corners to supprt the weight of the roof .

They don't have to flash it to the existing roof, you can put some ice gaurd over the transition and double layer shingles there to make the transition smoother. Otherwise just shingle up to the transition and try to get the last row of shingles the same as the rest, or measure and get it exact. But I would just eye ball it then work my last few rows of shingles to where the row meeting the original shingles looks about right, no one will be able to tell if there a little shorter.

they shingled under the other shingles, used tar paper, and attached the rafters to a ledger board which they nailed to the house probably through some kind of membrane or directly idk. You can lay down liquid rubber, paper, liquid rubber, and nail through that and put flashing on your ledger if you wanted, then cover it with a roof with the shingles tucked under the ones above that. You need a drip edge, paper, and shingles. You can use liquid rubber for the roof before all that to lay a waterproof layer

That kid that was helping should have immediately picked up the small pieces of wood on the ground, since he almost fell and tumbled because he stepped on them. Always have a clean ground around you when you work on projects to avoid falls and accidents. Other than that this was a very good project.

@@curiousjonathan and if those posts are 7 1/2 center to center that would mean your rafter layout must be on appx 9 or 10" centers and your bosses are about 4' tall and you're about 3' tall. lol That really doesn't jive now does it? In reality, you're lying or don't know how to read a tape measure. Either way, in REALITY, your beam is way undersized and that would mean: NO, this is NOT how you build a patio cover.

    • @youdontknowmyname6956

2, 4x4s 16 ft apart? I would definitely recommend throwing in a extra 4x4. They shouldn't be more than 8 ft apart.
Matter of fact swap the 4x4s with 6x6s they'll last longer, hold more weight, and just in general look better.
I know it's been a year since you posted this so hopefully everything did come out to your liking.
Best of luck with your future projects.
