It's not just Washington DC and European government buildings that use neoclassical architecture to evoke classical sentiments, you can also see it in several locations throughout Star Wars. Like the City of Theed on Naboo has lots of neoclassical architecture because Lucas wanted to commutate to the viewer what the planet of Naboo is all about democracy. He knows many of us subconsciously associate such architecture with Rome and the ideas it represented and by packing the Theed with such architecture, we associate it and Padme with republics and democracy. It's a fantastic example of Lucas using the setting to visually convey sentiments without even having to explicitly say them. This goes even further because building off the the sentiments, themes can now be conveyed thanks to what the architecture represents. Naboo and Padme represent the last ideals of democracy in an increasingly corrupt Republic. Naboo is attacked by the Trade Federation (as a proxy for the Sith) so we can interpret this as an attack on democracy. Not only that, this first film is preview for what will happen later in the Prequels when the Sith truly destroy the Republic and democracy is defeated. Lucas basically told us what the prequels were going to be all about and established key characterizations all with the help of architecture. It's also no wonder that neoclassical architecture only appeared in the prequels because that was the only time of democracy. Lucas didn't have any such architecture in the OT because there was no democracy, only Imperial oppression and he needed to communicate that again with the setting.

... Blue... blue. I know... how you feel but like... You got Red. Hasn't she gotten a Math degree or something?
That was the problem
Came to say the same thing. Maybe he was still mad that Red snuck some history into the Loki video behind his back.
it'd be interesting to have Red give a short addendum to the maths behind it
but it'd probably be more interesting to see Blue struggle to try to do maths while Red silently laughs/cringes at him
either way, give us the maths
I'd like to have Red make Math sarcastic just to see what happens.
Yes! He must summon Red! The time for great maths has come!
As soon as I saw the title on my notification I thought "oh HELL yeah, I can't wait to hear Blue obsessing over some fancy buildings"
He's really adorable when he gushes.
@@KianaWolf agreed!

Excuse you, Rome was in shape.
“Dumpster Fire” is technically a shape.
I remember hearing "people don't want a perfect teacher, they want a happy teacher who is excited about what they have to share" and I honestly feel this channel embodies that so much. Hearing about all of these fascinating tales and histories from people genuinely passionate about them is truly a gift. Thank you
I just got out of my art history class and was content with not hearing another word of it. but I’ll never get tired of these videos.
Passion goes a long way towards making a subject interesting.
“And how could they not love it, it’s pretty!” This line was perfect! More videos like this please!
Hears about the episode on the podcast and how it had to be cut: Sad
Blue releases the video: unsad
Broke: saying happy
Woke: unsad
Having just ADHD special interest info dumped my love of neoclassism in functional objects for the home into a 3000 word essay for art history, I am greatly enjoying continuing submerging my brain in the style by rewatching this.
Please, talk about your random research deep dives, talk about the cool things you find along the way, we will all so happily listen
1:57 RIP Notre Dame Spire. 180 years was far too short for the human race to witness your beauty.😢
(sees episode title)
Blue, you’re a man after my own heart, and I appreciate you.
?
Yay! I'm so happy to see Blue talk about art!
I love listening to Blue talk about things he's passionate about
I’m gonna need a super cut of Blue saying the word “Dome” now, am I? 😂
I'm afraid we do...
Yes, this was really awesome and if you stumble across topics like this in the future, I think we would all love to hear it.
"Eh temple looks nice. But I need a second opinion. I shall ask cousin Arbor."
"Me no like. Need more marble columns."
Honestly Blue could do a video on classical italian toilets and I’d watch it. The enthusiasm y’all bring to any topic is infectious.
Spent some time in Venice a couple years ago and it's just insane. the amount of detail and beauty in even the tiniest apartments was just staggering.
So... Neoclassical architecture is basically:
Roman Architecture: The Rebootening
Roman Architecture 2: Marboogaloo.
@@5peciesunkn0wn roman architecture 2: Augustus boogaloo
me finished the video: immediately replays it.
it’s a fascinating subject (im deeply in love w architecture) and your passion for it, blue, and format is enrapturing
Okay this timing is freaking awesome Blue! I have an exam on Neoclassical architecture in about a week
Good luck
Good luck!
**sees new osp video**
Me:well that's pretty n-
**sees title**
Me: -hoLY FUCK!
A Turtle approves of this architecture
We meet again.
Ayyy turtle
WHY ARE YOU HERE TOO
You're a treasure to find in the comments 💙😂
A mad doctor approves this turtle, approving this architecture.
I can't actually think of anything else to say, I'm just procrastinating.
Architecture was never my fave thing to learn about in my art history classes - even in my Italian Renaissance Art History class - but Blue’s excitement over this was kinda contagious!!!
Once again Blue, you show that you have always belonged in the world of OSP. Fascinating, entertaining, and with a contagious passion. Go ahead, nerd out about buildings or whatever again in the future. It's the kind of thing that just listening to someone else be happy and excited about something makes other people happy.
I hope we'll get moar architecture content in the future because this is absolutely great ^~^ it's both informative and shows pretty places and it also gives both historical and aesthetic indications *^* I am living for this
GOSH the way Palladio combined classicism with a contemporary church is straight up genius
Why?
When you write a book about architecture so good it becomes a guide book.
-Palladibrooo
I'm not a history buff, so I came to your channel because it's quick, witty and focuses on the interesting bits of history in a digestible format. It's my jumping off point into things I know nothing about.
But as mechanical engineer, designer, and all round wants-everything-to-be-aesthetic person, this was FANTASTIC. More of these "thoughts about buildings" videos!! As you said, this is history you can *see* and *experience*. I love it!
Ahh the 1500s, when genius and immortality went on the biological equivalent of a shopping spree with infinite cash.
I for one would enjoy a series on historical architecture from around the world and the stories behind the various styles.
Hello blue, hope you se this and have a nice day
YESS THE SIDE TANGENT IS FINALLY HERE!
I'm with everyone else on this: It's simply fun, interesting and amazing to listen to you being passionate! Keep making videos about stuff you care about!
I could listen to Blue lecture about Italian art and history for hours
I've learnt more things here than I'll ever learn at school
Gonna be honest, i have a hard hard time focusing on things like architecture but it's just kinda nice to hear someone be so passionate about a subject
I just want someone to love me as much as Blue loves Venice, and it’s architecture
OMG Blue, you don't wanna know how much I needed this!
Art is fine and all, but I never understood architecture. I've been interested in doing research on myths, music etc. But I never understood how to get around architecture. Finally OSP gives me an hand to step into it. Thank-You-SOOOOOO-Much!
But why then? you may ask. Well.... I'm a European, so this is life for me. I walk across buildings from all over history every day and never understood how to analyse them. Now I can a bit better. Again, thanks sooo much blue. :D
I would seriously LOVE a series of videos talking about the progressions of historical building styles! I honestly can't think of a better series that could illustrate the historical progression of artistic styles, technology, and social morality. I think it would be super interesting, and that well of content runs DEEP!!!
Who hopes that Blue talks about Julie D’Aubigny, Alexander Hamilton, Catherine the Great, or Charles Darwin this year?
Darwin as a history maker!
Architecture is one of those things i feel annoyed i never got to take a class in in college
I'm getting my Bachelor's in a month and I feel this so much.
Blue nerding out about architecture is definitely what I needed today!!
I would listen to Blue discuss anything he was passionate about for hours. Same for Red, also.
I love LOVE listening to Blue talk about things he loves with so much passion. I’m not nearly as big a fan of architecture as him but I would listen to him talk for hours.
Ahhh, another episode where Blue nerds out about his waifu... Venice
I don't know why this made me laugh so hard 🤣
cyan: ...it’s a polyamorous arrangement.
Palladio: allow me to introduce myself
11:30 YEEEES !!!!! We definitely want more architecture on this channel.
Am I the only one who wants more architecture videos from a historical channel?
no you are not
nope. we are legion :)
Blue is one of the few people where he could literally talk about anything and I’d enjoy it.
Blue, I need you to understand-- your sassy verbiage and passionate gushing about a thing you're obviously SUPER interested in is pure dopamine for people for whom lockdown has resulted in full isolation for a full year. Your love sparks joy.
Me: I just finished an Ancient Rome elective that was heavily focused on the art and architecture. I need something to take my mind off it. Huh; Overly Sarcastic Productions has a new video.
*Overly Sarcastic Productions new video: Neo-Classical Architecture.*
Me: …Well, technically it isn't Roman Architecture.
It's not green! It's lime!
Super mario brothers vs new super mario brothers series
This channel help me become a history major... now I understand their suffering
Whew I’m here fast. Blue’s happy nerd rants make my day every time!!
*s p e e d*
Honestly it's a joy to listen to Blue talk about his passions no matter what subject.
Blue I loved this, I think its absolutely a good idea for you to make videos just about what's interesting without worrying too much about whether it fits into a particular category or series. Your enthusiasm really comes through and makes the videos even better
Being Greek and having a great love for the neoclassical style of architecture I can only feel sad while watching this video and knowing the situation in my country ...
Rome: Popelessly lost on a peninsula.
Coming to your cinemas in 1760.
Personally, I prefer Edo Japanese and Edwardian architecture, but I do love your passion for your subject Blue. Stella work as always my friend.
imagine using both of them in one building tho
@@lawrencerutherford4260 There's Indo-Greek architecture wich combined .. well Indic and Hellenic architecture into one beautiful artwork. There's not much left of it, wich is a shame though
Probably more stone and Edwardian exterior and grounds, with Japanese interior layout and garden style. Shinto shrine meets Buckingham palace
Blue is a closeted architect. The sooner he comes out and admits that, the sooner he can be happy. Lol!
Blue's voice is so relaxing. But not in a boring, put-you-to-sleep way. Like I can listen to him for hours just to mellow out
