Eric Campbell was a victim himself in this case. He almost certainly wouldn't have been involved in these crimes were it not for his sociopathic, domineering, criminal father. It is easy to say that he was old enough to make his own decisions, call the police, not participate in the crimes, etc.--but when you have been psychologically and emotionally abused by your father for most of your life, you follow along out of fear, no doubt. Assuming there was no direct evidence that he was actually involved in killing the couple--and I don't think there was--my inclination as a juror would have been to give the young man a much lighter sentence that would enable him to obtain parole at some point and have a second chance at life--without the father who has now ruined his life.
I think Eric was a "partner" in the crime, but for the prosecution to say he was an "equal" partner is just disingenuous and dishonest. His coward father kills himself and as compensation for justice lost they want to lynch this kid who himself is also a victim of his father. I hate when people try to pin the crimes of one person on another just cause they are hurt and want to hurt someone, even if they know it's not actually the one who was primarily responsible.

The kid did not exhibit PTSD symptoms while in walmart because his father was not raging or threatening him at THAT moment. The terror caused by PTSD does not show itself every minute of every day. It is triggered. I believe this kid was under the authority and control of a madman. No excuse for him ultimately staying and doing what his dad demanded but it is understandable. Great video and story Kevin, thank you again, ever so much. What a sad ending for the Faulkners after what seems to have been a well lived life. As far as the Campbells - terrible father and unfortunate consequences for the son; such a waste.
ah poor Eric was so stressed ......imagine how stressed Jerome and Dora must have been as they tortured and murdered them. Just horrific what he and his father did to those 2 senior citizens.
Horrid! I will say that he was quite intimidated by his father, couldn’t bring himself to confront him, and in his own, wouldn’t have even thought about doing such horrible things! He was, unfortunately, complicit in all parts, because he cooperated and assisted. What a drastically sad case. A cowardly father, who took suicide over facing the court; a son whose been used and abused all his life, pays the price , alone. God have Mercy on him.
He's no innocent victim. He jumped in the red truck with the bodies when fleeing from cops instead of the closer suburban, and then he tried to stash all the loot in the forest after he crashed. He was free from his abusive dad before all that and would've just given up if he was innocent.

My condolences to the Faulkers' family and friends. I also feel for Eric because the poor boy didn't have a chance to do anything good with his life having been raised by a criminal. He should have paid but as an accomplice to commit murder not for first degree murder. The father, a coward until the end.
My heart and prayers go out to Jerome & Dora Faulkner and their loved ones. What a tragic, senseless, terrible end to a sweet, accomplished, and honored couple. They in no way deserved what happened to them. One difficult thing about court trials are the “expert witnesses”. i have personally been involved in litigation in my life, and i find it ridiculous that each side has these “hired guns” that basically say what ever that side needs them to express. It really bothers me the way the prosecution’s psych expert claims to be able to tell that Eric does not have serious traumatic issues by watching the Home Depot footage. Wow, she just sounds ridiculous, seeing this grainy footage, and citing his body language from afar? This kid was severely abused and raised to be his father’s minion. My gut feeling is that Eric Campbell _was definitely_ groomed, taught, _molded_ into being an obeyer of his father. -That he had been committing crime with his father since a very young age…. what a sad travesty. How is a person to know right from wrong, when they are raised by a monster like Edward Campbell?
By the Way…. The North Carolina defense attorney *William Durham* is awesome, and i hope in time, that he finds a way to get this case retried. Esquire Durham is one to wAtCh. He is a unique breed of attorney, seeming truly honest and genuinely caring, evident in his 𝚆𝙾𝚁𝙳 and way.
He doesn't know right from wrong because his father taught him to be a criminal? There are many people raised by criminals who turn out to be productive members of society. My father was in and out of prison most of his life, an abusive alcoholic who mistreated everyone around him. It was no picnic and I was traumatised by it but I definitely knew right from wrong at an early age and I decided early on I would be nothing like him when I grew up, went on to not touch alcohol, build a family, committed no crimes and work a job for 18 years so far, it might have been a harder road to go than someone who is raised by a loving family but people make choices in life. Stop making excuses for him.
Regarding the expert witness, the defence can cross examine them so whatever objections you have, the defence can present them in court & let the jury decide if they're convinced
@_Y.Not_ You are absolutely right! I was earnestly looking for someone who would speak up like you did....I just couldn't suffer all these fools shedding their crocodile tears over 'poor little Eric'...especially considering that we live in a day and age where kids are constantly breaking free from their 'super' controlling parents to enter into a life of promiscuity, drugs & crimes. Eric is defunitrly a partner in crime with his abomination of a dad by choice, and there are no two ways about it.
I concur with @imdoneplus. I also have PTSD from my stepfather, and I can’t tell you right now: my aunt called the police on him, and I had the chance to send him to jail right then, and I lied to the cops’ faces without a second thought. Because I knew what would happen if I didn’t. I’ve been out of the situation now for longer than I was in it, and I still have leftover behavior and thought processes I’ll never be able to rid myself of. I can see myself in this man’s shoes; he should have never been convicted.
The kid was super messed up. Guilty or not guilty he doesn't need to be just freely walking about. He needs help. Not sure what kind of "help" he'll get in prison. He just looks spaced out to me.
Thankyou Kevin for your channel you have a calming voice and you put so much careful thought into your videos. As an animal rescue volunteer I am also grateful that animal abuse is not in detail. I noticed another comment stated this too... Thankyou from a Greek island.. We love your cats too

Hey Samantha! Thank you so much! I had missed this come through originally but then just saw the notification when I was checking something else. You're the first one we've received (excluding the tester I gave myself 😀). Really do appreciate it. Hope you're having a great day!
I have real doubts about the amount of complicity on Eric's part. Just because he didn't act terrified in the store videos doesn't mean he wasn't. After years of abuse he could have learned that showing fear would only elicit more abuse. I don't think he's innocent but you have 2 principal actors and both say he did not kill them. I'm surprised that I live in NC and never heard of this case. I just don't get the sense that he's a danger to society as his father was. Over 1,000 pages of CPS paperwork on the family. The children should have never been left in this father's care, never. It's tragic all the way around. I'd like to think there's a chance for Eric to have a life after parole, if he ever gets parole. Never mind, google says no parole.
this part irked me specifically. Dr Wolfe's opinion seems to be so uneducated, 'casual demeanor', not in sync with dissociative episode' and 'not hyper-vigilant'? And she's able to conclude all that from a grainy video with 4 pixels where, in order to give such diagnosis, you need to examine the patient closely in situ and physically as well? Doesn't she know that victims of DA are masters of disguise, trained for years to minimize the abuse? I call BS
Completely agree. I think the prosecution should have more thoughtfully considered the young man's situation. In my view he should have been charged with lesser crimes and given a lesser sentence and given a chance to get out of prison--free of his abusive father--and have a second chance at life. None of this was the young man's choice. I disagree with the prosecutors in this case.
Sincere Condolences, I lost a very dear teacher of mine, and his wife, who were murdered due to a robbery "gone wrong".. so easy to say for the perpetrators.... When a person is under such control like his psychopath father, unless you are such person you will obey what that psychopath said. I felt very sorry for Eric. I am with the lawyer that he is innocent. Sad story when the father is on drug and dragging his son down with him, to me the father is a coward leaving his son to face this tragedy.
Yes the father is the ultimate coward. It makes me sick to see what happened to the Faulkners. I believe the son is guilty and he's where he needs to be.
Yes hes so innocent and afraid of his dad that he pulled over when his dad got pulled over instead of continuing driving. So innocent he got out of his car and attempted to kill 2 police officers to protect his dad instead of simply driving away. So innocent he ran to the further vehicle with the two rotting victims and took off leaving dear old dad behind but still attempting to conceal the murder. So innocent the first thing he wanted to do was hide the ill gotten goods like a packrat. Yes dad is already caught, but im keeping the treasure. Yes he is innocent.
Great coverage of a case I have never heard about Kevin, I am not buying into a guilty or not guilty verdict but how can a jurer number 3, who has personally said they cannot reach a verdict twice to a judge suddenly be included in a unanimous verdict, it's not about what I think I can prove, evidence is all we have
I dunno. How could this guy contradict his meth addled dad? Seems like good survival instincts. I don’t feel they were fair with him. If they had had a chance to convict his father, they would have gone for lesser charges on the son. I don’t feel good about this case.
I've been bingeing your videos all weekend lol I've been a sub for a while, but i forgot how good your coverage of little-known cases is! Thanks for all your in-depth coverage and, what I'm sure time-consuming, research.
The way he tried to trick them in the court room looking down and wearing glasses, he 100% knew what he was doing and his father wanted to save his evil son 🙄🥴
What a terrible law enforcement and judicial community. Beat the kid after apprehending him. Toss out the dad’s confession but allow a statement quite clearly made under duress after a severe beating at the hands of police. On top of that, the correctional officers let the dad commit suicide. So the family will never have justice. Terrible cops and judges.
What a thorough coverage!!! I feel the punishment for Eric doesn’t make sense. There is no doubt that what he did was wrong, but we have to take into account the circumstances. Growing with the abusive and violent father, sometimes the victim doesn’t even know how to say no. Especially in this case since he was groomed this way since he was born. There is absolutely no way he can escape his father easily. He should be punished but life in prison is way harsh and there should be some other way. RIP Faulkners 😞
I'm watching "taking the stand" on Hulu and the female prosecutor is like Eric could have done this and he could have done that and PTSD doesn't mean you can't do this or that. Well, as a war vet who suffers from PTSD you'll be surprised what you can and can't do because of PTSD especially when the TRIGGER is within close physical proximity!!!
Thank you so much for the content you upload. I really appreciate the way you present these cases in a serious and respectful manner, but without being dry and unemotional. Really good work. Definitely one of the best vodcasters out there.
This decision was sickening. Clearly, NONE of these jurors know how an insane violent drug addict controls everyone around them. This is tragic for this young man. They were wrong in their ignorant decision.
Probably, the mother had soffered braindamage not by coincidence either. I think Eric was made evil by his dad but it does not make his terrible crimes less terrible.
I've known men like Ed Campbell, they're scary af and their sons grew up to be broken people. That being said, the evidence points to Eric being right there during the violent crime. I'm glad he got life in prison, it will take him years to extricate his father's presence from his psyche. Good one Kevin 👍
It's scary to tell someone dangerous "no"... I'm not going to pretend to be an expert, I just wish there was a more intricate plan for the son...it feels really lazy that it's just a blanket punishment of life and that we don't have anything in place for victims who choose crime over death or other abuse.

I remember the first time my brother-in-law came from Texas forty-five years ago. I hitched a ride with him from Virginia and we drove down Gauley mountain. He was trying to straighten out the curves and I thought he was going to wreck at anytime. I never did that again.
He chose to travel with the bodies in the back of the car. I don't care how scary his father is, he chose to do that. That's not normal. That's not a person you want to have shopping next to you, eating next to you, on a train or plane seat next to you.
The one and only time I served jury duty was in Granville County. That was in 1999. My Dad still lives there. These cases scare me so bad. This was completely random!
The older couple’s bodies were moved from the house to the red truck. I’m having a hard time believing the father dragged them up into the bed of that truck on his own. They looked like they’d have been heavy to move. I’d like to know the weight of each victim. Also - maybe I missed it but what was cause of death? I’ve been reading that one way to tell if there were two different perpetrators/ murderers is by the injuries that caused death. So if the elderly male victim was wounded by the baton thing, and the woman was wounded by a different weapon... that can tell us something. Or if both victims had wounds from two different weapons. If both victims had life-ending injuries from a single weapon that tells us something too... Just thinking out loud over here. 🧠 🤔 Obviously the prosecution nailed him, but I’m curious about those pieces of the equation. For this abused son to have had a better outcome (for himself), he would have had to prove that his father threatened to kill him if he didn’t comply, no? As for society... I think we’re better off he’s locked up. Under coercion or not, two innocent people were brutally murdered.
To me, the legal system failed everyone and threw Eric in prison to play for the crowd. To look tough on crime, to appease the cop mob after two officers were shot. Eric needed incarceration and rehabilitation. They couldn't nail his father, so he became the scapegoat. That way nothing else matters, just pin it on the individual. Excuses CPS, police and so on.
How trustworthy could the forensics on the evidence have been when the prosecutor handled a minimum of four pieces of evidence (1st pair of plastic gloves, 2nd pair of plastic gloves, the black backpack, and the electrical tape) while wearing the same pair of gloves? In order to guarantee no transfer, she should have changed gloves after touching each piece of evidence. After she took the first pair of gloves out and showed them to the jury, she should have removed her gloves, thrown them away, put on a new pair of gloves and then opened the second envelope and pulled out the second pair of gloves, showed them to the jury, and continued changing out for new gloves before handling any other piece of evidence. How in the world were they able to claim there was no cross contamination when the person who should have been most vigilant about how the evidence was handled stood in court and cross contaminated a minimum of four pieces of evidence? How many more pieces did she handle like that and why didn't the defense attorney jump all over that when it happened?
The idea that they were equally involved because they bought two set of gloves, etc., seems a red herring to me. If the father wanted his son to think they were just cooking up some meth together, and not be suspicious of any other motive, then of course they would have bought two sets of kit.
They targeted the old couple because they thought they looked vulnerable. They bought the supplies after they planned to rob the couple. How do you think Eric didn't know he was planning on committing a crime? And a crime that also involved torture weapons that they had brought with them.
Daaaayuuuum. Eric’s face! I’m gonna have to force myself to believe that he got those injuries when he crashed. I’m sure he had no time to put his seat belt on when he dipped. The way the truck crashed on a steep incline he easily could’ve smashed his face into the airbag or steering wheel.
That poor kid was doomed from the moment of his birth. He had no chance at a life with that monster for a father he had.
I agree. I don’t see him as being anywhere near as culpable as his father.

I also wonder, how did the mother get her brain injury....was it the father who gave it to her?
Then what do you suggest he did? Tell his father no so he would be brutally beaten or killed?
@@JenX1975 Sneak away and go straight to the police???
It's hard to understand the kid's level of culpability if any. It's also hard to imagine the life this kid had with this monster.
@jessebaldwin2661 And yet everyday you hear of kids who break free from their controlling parents to immerse themselves in the world of sex, drugs & crimes.
I bet he beat the mom too.
I just paused it real quick to mention something. I'm a new subscriber and I am really enjoying your production style.
Yet again, another excellently detailed, well thought out coverage.
Love the way you make your videos , you put WORK into the true pictures real videos ! That’s what make your channel a fantastic channel ! Thank you !
Cowardly dad. Left his son to deal with everything.
Did he really killed himself though?
Absolutely. A despicable human being.
Thank you for all your time and effort that you put into these interesting cases
This channel is up there with that chapter!!! Subscribed immediately

I feel so sad that the son was brought into this nonsense. What a wicked man! Riep the victims.
The son knew exactly what he was doing and needs to be in jail.
@@cindyrussell1581 u think he’d have murdered anyone had it not been for his dad?
@@cindyrussell1581 I strongly disagree with that. In my opinion, his life was controlled by his father. Very tough for all involved in this.
He's no innocent victim. He jumped in the red truck with the bodies when fleeing from cops instead of the closer suburban, and then he tried to stash all the loot in the forest after he crashed. He was free from his abusive dad before all that and would've just given up if he was innocent.
You're old enough to not go along murdering people with your dad at aged 20 believe it or not.

My condolences to the Faulkers' family and friends. I also feel for Eric because the poor boy didn't have a chance to do anything good with his life having been raised by a criminal. He should have paid but as an accomplice to commit murder not for first degree murder. The father, a coward until the end.
This is unbelievably good. Perfect, really. I thank you, kind sir.
My condolences 💐 to the Faulkner family
what a coward the father was leaving his son to face trial while he took the easy route out.
Great job Kevin ❤ you're one of the good ones. Looking forward to your work brother
Exactly my thought..she looked at the video and decided that Eric doesn't show any symptoms.
Spaced out and scared
Thankyou Kevin for your channel you have a calming voice and you put so much careful thought into your videos. As an animal rescue volunteer I am also grateful that animal abuse is not in detail. I noticed another comment stated this too... Thankyou from a Greek island.. We love your cats too

@@JustThoughtLounge of course! I appreciate your hard work and delivery of content!
Did you just make your assessment from a few seconds of video of her testifying?

Sincere Condolences, I lost a very dear teacher of mine, and his wife, who were murdered due to a robbery "gone wrong".. so easy to say for the perpetrators.... As if they just mad a little fault of some sort... but's so hard to came to terms with, even years later. Great work, tragic story
Love your stories!
The odds of that same juror getting into an accident is wild
Great coverage of a case I have never heard about Kevin, I am not buying into a guilty or not guilty verdict but how can a jurer number 3, who has personally said they cannot reach a verdict twice to a judge suddenly be included in a unanimous verdict, it's not about what I think I can prove, evidence is all we have
I dunno. How could this guy contradict his meth addled dad? Seems like good survival instincts. I don’t feel they were fair with him. If they had had a chance to convict his father, they would have gone for lesser charges on the son.
I don’t feel good about this case.

A white Suburban Tahoe?? Man I was so confused for a moment lol
The way he tried to trick them in the court room looking down and wearing glasses, he 100% knew what he was doing and his father wanted to save his evil son 🙄🥴
The son totally overdoing being a victim part. He's evil.
Could you do an update on the case of the Menendez brothers? Especially how many people support them now. I would love to hear your analysis.
Your content and voice are great! I subscribed!
Welcome to the channel 😀
Someone with ptsd can still function and go to the store. That Psych was not honest.
Thank you so much for the content you upload. I really appreciate the way you present these cases in a serious and respectful manner, but without being dry and unemotional. Really good work. Definitely one of the best vodcasters out there.
How can you have a mistrial after only 2.5 hours? I’ve never heard of giving up that early. So glad they were able to find him guilty. RIP.
This decision was sickening. Clearly, NONE of these jurors know how an insane violent drug addict controls everyone around them. This is tragic for this young man. They were wrong in their ignorant decision.
Very good video, thank you!!...
Love your videos! “Just the facts.”
Great video and such a soothing voice Kevin 👌🥰

This young man had an horrible childhood, he is going to have an horrible manhood
First time I would have wanted a more human verdict
I remember the first time my brother-in-law came from Texas forty-five years ago. I hitched a ride with him from Virginia and we drove down Gauley mountain.
He was trying to straighten out the curves and I thought he was going to wreck at anytime.
I never did that again.
A Victim of poor Godless Fatherhood. This young man had all the potential to be an upstanding person. What an utter waste and so sad.
He chose to travel with the bodies in the back of the car. I don't care how scary his father is, he chose to do that.
That's not normal. That's not a person you want to have shopping next to you, eating next to you, on a train or plane seat next to you.
I truly struggle with this verdict.
Obviously the prosecution nailed him, but I’m curious about those pieces of the equation.
Nice job on this.
I have to say you have the most soothing voice have you ever done any audible books❤❤❤❤
If they had made a movie about this 20 years ago, Ed Harris could have played Edward Campbell.
Damn the father could've kept driving in the red truck and the son would've just gotten a stolen tag charge
His dead father made poor Eric lie like a snake in the sun on the witness stand. Poor poor kid
I hope ur right, but it sure looks like he got stomped out.
I was looking for this comment! Almost unrecognisable hey.
They beat the shite out of him. C’mon we all know, they shot a cop!
The defense attorney's speech pattern was giving me thoughts of Matthew Mcconaughey. 😂
