the tape actually sounds so good
Seeing that there is tape around the switch housing, it appears to be cushioning the bottom out of the switch thus muting the sound. The tape mod would prob sound very similar if it had a gap around the switch.
wrong actually, it reduces hollowness 0over all so theres n0o echo. i did this with my own keyboard (250 aud) and it is quieter and thocky whilst having a gap around the switch.
Stock sounds the best to me somehow, the tape sounds less high pitched but lifeless
I ended up using the foam that came in my Keychron V2's package, so I got foam for free. It fits a little tighter than most keyboard foams so it might dampen more, but I'll have to try that tape damping as well!
Fill in Silicone. My preferd way to handle a Spacebar :D

I just got silicon to do this actually.
How did you do it exactly? Just a very small amount? I'm afraid it will cause the key to not bottom out my hitting the switch. But being that just a layer of painters tape works I probably only need a very thin layer of silicone.
Might put a thicker layer, pull it out after it sets and then cut away near the stabs and switch, but then worried it won't stick and will fall out, so think maybe hot glue to attach it.
Should then be removable but not fall out.

I filled my spacebar with crafting foam (the one preschool teachers use that costs like a dollar for a 10 sheet pack) and glued with like 5 layers of painters tape and it suddenly sounds like an expensive spacebart. I highly recommend

I think the same principles that apply to giving keyboards a thocky-er sound would apply here. @Keybored does a really good job going in to the science. But essentially you're trying to change the vibrational qualities of the keys. I am over simplifying it, but adding more weight is one way to do it. The foam in this case may just be too light to alter it. Maybe...

The weird thing for me about the tape one is that, why does it sound so bouncy? It's kinda scratchy and a bit of ticking can be heard.
I'm currently running Poly foam, tape mod, with Gateron Milky Yellows in my RK R75. It's the creamiest thockiest keyboard.
try to combine both, stick the foam with the tape.
With that comparison you have to peel the plastic to reveal the adhesive of the foam and press down between the crevices so its stuck to it. It needs to make contact to dampen sound. Made a difference for me (KBD spacebar Foam)
The foam sounds much better and marbly. The tape just makes it sound. Muted and mushy
I purchased the spacebar foam, it worked for me but It took a bit of time to get it to work. I actually ended up looping tape around a pencil and taping it to the spacebar and it sounded way better.
I used blu-tack in a spacebar a few weeks ago, you're able to customise the tone you get with different amounts of it

What i did is put a pe foam sheet cut it down to fit it and it works pretty good

i actally just tried this with my space bar and if youre looking for something that dampens like harsh sound it helps a lot the tape just haveing one on each side helps with the sound
it might feel a little weird but i kinda like this on my cheap budget board i wouldnt do this for anything that has a good signature sound already
I use neoprene foam that I usually use for case foam and I double side tape it into the space bar. Seems to work decently without buying anything extra if you’re already modding with case foam

Try poron foam for space bar. I cut my own poron foam .. sound damn good
It might just be me but i don't like the double tick during the top out
What in the world was that foam? I just cut a peice of foam from the packaging my keyboard came in and stuck it in my split spacebar. Cleared the hollow pingy sounds right up. I did also put moleskin tape on top of the foam though, so maybe that's what made a diference.
I put sticky tack in mine hahaha filled out the whole keycap like what you would do using silicone
From the clip the foam still have de glue protective on. I have one equal and it made diference

tape sounds low pitched while foam doesnt do anything so tape sounds better and that ffoam doesnt fill up the hollow parts of the spacebar so it doesnt do anything
That's why I put my poron strips directly on the plate, under the spacebar kecap using double-sided tape. For some reason, everyone else seems to mod the spacebar directly.
