Lyrics:
Wild kind of look to the day,
Opening eyes impale neon flickers
She moon she turning away,
The city's her slave but he's cheating his mistress
She's moody and grey,
She's mean and she's restless (so restless)
All over you as they say
Rumours or rivals yell at the strike force
Hi guys, by the way, are you aware you're being illegal
It's making your savior behaviour look evil
Excuse my timing but say,
How d'you fit in with this flim, flam and Judy
Maximum big surprise your smile is something new
I pull my shirt off and pray,
We're sacred and bound to suffer the heatwave
Pull my shirt off and pray we're coming up on re-election day
Don't even try to induce,
In all my restrain there's no hesitation
All the signs on the loose
Cause sanity's rare this end of the hard day
Shadows are crawling out of the subway
Any way that you choose in every direction just to confuse me
Maximum big surprise she knows something new
I pull my shirt off and pray,
I'm saving myself to suffer the heatwave
Pull my shirt off and pray, we're coming up on re-election day
By roads and backways a lover's chance down a wind
Cut open murmurs and sounds be calm hands on skin
Carry further oh...entangled strands all sing
Saving some time to slip away we could dance oh..
Shouldn't be asking wild and scheming
Could be my election day
Stretching my back down the way
To your invitation stretching my body
Use your intuitive play
Cause maybe we have more play time than money
Maximum big surprise you know something new
I pull my shirt off and pray,
We're sacred and bound to suffer this heatwave
Pull my shirt off and pray we're coming up on re-election day
Re-election day
i really do think Nick Rhodes is a Genius.....those melodies surrounding Duran and Arcadia s songs are out of this world......his image is beautiful and unique..... he s definetely one of a kind, Legend
So true!!! I've seen them in concert 4 times... and once got a chance to speak with Nick Rhodes. He's so cool... and such a down-to-earth guy. (Wish you had been there.) Perhaps the most underrated band of all time!!
Nick’s always been my favourite, I reckon he’s the driving force behind Duran Duran and never seems to stop. He’s often got a side project going on in between albums. Producing Kajagoogoo, Dandy Warhols, the Dark Circles album, TV Mania and the Only After Dark compilation to name a few.
Guaooooooo Simon y nick 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌👌😍😍😍
Two of my favorite Nick moments were when he was wearing a blue and gold suit on a talk show in support of Ukraine and when he acknowledged Warren in the lifetime achievement award.
@@jeffgreen7629 Kajagoogoo Too Shy is such a smoothly produced song you can listen to over and over, if Nick produced that you know he's on top of the DD sound.
The sad part is this song was only on the radio for a short time. It's an Awesome song, but didn't get enough recognition!
But the good thing is, WE've recognized that one back then at least....
Probably because there is no more election day. Mail in ballots and early voting these days. Should be called election months
It reached #6 in the US and #7 in the UK, top 5 in other countries. It was a huge hit
I remember this song by this side project of Simon and Nick, it was played a lot on the Radio. It's a good one, ! Great memories and times!
Back in the day the radio companies an DJs didn't like Duran Duran s side projects. They thought DD should write pop songs but they had so much more gravitas and potential. Despite being hugely successful and ''the band of the Eighties ' they were massively underated, probably because of the teen pop sensation thing. I am glad they are still around and Future Past is as creative and imaginative as any other album in the last 10 years.
This song plays in my head whenever I go out and vote! 😆
I agree I think of this every time I go to vote.I also play the video too!
Great Song and video
Same with me, here in Brazil
& mine in Chicago! Miss Missy Says Hello! dan tf
@@danthefan5378 Hello Missy! 😃
Heading to the polls right now humming it🎼
This album is massively underrated
one of the best albums in the 80's era
It's a superb work of art
Legendary budgets during this era.
This song never gets old.
you are correct darling
Exactly, great song, great band!
Patricia de Chenier Peaked at Number 6 near the end of 1985
Ahh, you're so right. Turn the volume and bass waayyy up! There is also an extended version out there that I've heard.
I think it seriously gets old but that's the real charm of this magnetic thing
I know i'll NEVER get tired of Duran Duran! always loved them...always will!!
this isn't Duran Duran...technically
That makes two of us 🙂!!!
@@itsarubiksmaybe more than you Think!!!
This is not just a song, its a work of art
how'd you've come up to this??
yes to this! It is a work of art. So underappreciated.
Couldn’t agree more 😇🙏🏻
Yes it is a bit art school. There's a lot of imagination going on in it.
😂
Arcadia is a GOTH flavoured Duran Duran!
Exactly!! You sir know music and great music at that. You're defly a DD fanatic I can tell
@@davidxrod : lol 😉
I’d say Japan infused
Or Edward Scissorhands infused
Edward Scissorhands was released in the United States on 07 December 1990, a day that will live in infamy!
man oh man duran duran was talented...the band splits in half and each half has hits
and none of the sub-bands sounded like DuranDuran.....
still they had very solid hits + style
❤
Power Station,yes !
If only they had done more albums with this band. There was so much potential. This was and still is a unique and one of a kind album.
I used to adore both Arcadia and the Power Station😊👍✨
When you realize that Duran Duran's 'side project' had more talent than most artists on the radio in 2021.......
agreed, but power station edged it
@@martincoxon1329 Even more evidence that the whole band was talented as hell.
Totally agree
Ei taa muutoin olisi usa 6!
@@Dryloch The music industry no longer wants to promote quality artists, the order of the day is to dumb down the masses.
A very dear friend bought me this in vinyl when it came out, I still have it. He's recently passed away so I'm reliving our memories. X
This holds up. Great song.
Nick Rhodes channeling his inner goth is pure magic.
Ya, yes that's it!
Yeah like Simon...oh yeah right but Nick!
Liz Taylor
INCREDIBLE song, INCREDIBLE video, INCREDIBLE band, INCREDIBLE time!
Simon brings fire and passion to the vocals and the band bring all you need for pop perfection
I loved this album when it came out in 1985. Was one of those albums got me thru college. 💗
See what happens when a group has so creative freedom.😉
God. Pure talent. The eighties. Take me back.
SO right! Amazing time!!
May I join you?
Can I come too?
Take you back to IRA
Just think about it..., pure 80s aesthetic, almost 40 years old, fresh and sophisticated as when it first came out.
I was a Duran Duran junkie back in the 80´s, still have to get a doze of it now that i´m in my 40´s.
I love this song, album is cool too, I love that Grace Jones is on this one 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Where?
@@mariuspoppFM Haven't seen her, but her vocals are in here at 02:54!
@@ingobund8793 thanks
@@mariuspoppFM U r welcome! So now u recognize her voice again?
@@ingobund8793 yes, I think she's not in the video because she was busy shooting her 007 movie which had a Duran song to start up
I remember buying this single thirty years ago. God I am old !
Maybe, but being old is better than the alternative! Besides, you had great musical taste back then, so hopefully that stayed with you!
Excuse me? You’re not old. You just happen to be born earlier, AND you, sir, have a genuinely acquired taste in music.
...
same . i was 11 !
This came out before I was born.
This song should be played at all American polling stations today happy election day November 3
I do...every time😂😂😂
Yes January 6th lol
Is this really 35 years old ? How time flies,... it´s still a good song
The 80s was a gr8 time 4 eternal songs which still sound good....
I was 14 years old back then. It´s still one of my vavourite songs.
I was 15....I need to buy a DeLorean...
Awesome pop song from the kings of the 80s pop scene.
This is the first time...........Loving It SWEEts....................
Very interesting comments. I love Arcadia for their Duran Duran offshoot, their gorgeous black hair, theatricality and Grace Jones..
So lush and ethereal was the 'So red the rose' album - My favorite song in 1985 when I was 13 in middle school - STILL amazing! so neat to see them in the rock hall of fame! This was when 80s dreams were in real time - an amazing time.
THIS SONG WENT TO NUMBER 6 ON THE BILLBOARD HOT-100 CHART IN 1985.
#1 in Italy
Sometimes UA-cam is really helpful. I almost forgot this masterpiece and it came here out of the blue. What a beautiful song!
I loved this when it came out and remember my sister and I watching it every time we heard it come on MTV. I always loved Simon's dancing, it fit perfectly with the eclectic song. Loved his outfit as well as him.
Here I am in 2020, November 3rd with this song playing in my head!
Long live Duran Duran and their experimental music of the 80s
🇺🇲🗳️🇬🇧🎸🎹🎵
And I'd forgotten that Grace Jones does a little voice speaking bit in this. Wow!
Thank you, I was wondering who did that vocal about part.
No one knew at the time. I remember someone trying to.convince me it was Nick Rhodes😳
As I recall, after hearing everything that Duran Duran had done for the soundtrack to the 1985 (Roger Moore) Bond-film 'A View To A Kill', Grace Jones SO wanted to contribute her musical-talents to something-else they did, and it just so-happened 'Arcadia' was a cute little side-project they had going on at the time.
Top 10 in the US and the UK, #1 for 7 weeks in Italy❤
Nice!
Simon has kind of an 'urgency' when he sings, like he's ready to have a nervous breakdown. I like that.
I've always thought Brian Connolly from The Sweet has that quality, he sounds like he's on the brink of hysteria. I like it too.
@John L I guess your description is the best.
My then teenage sister back in the eighties used to say that Simon sounded like he was about to cry 😂
This entire project is a timeless masterpiece. It deserves a thorough remaster using 2022 technology.
Such a unique and original sound at the time that just gets into your skin
We were so damn cool in the '80's like you wouldn't believe, unless you were there
You don't have to know what it means, just listen and enjoy the song, there are some things in this world that don't need explaining.
This song is part of my childhood. Back whenthere was good song writing and talent. Great song.
I was 15 when this come out there was no sound like this from no band they were unique
Duran Duran's best song of all time.
Nick looks so different with black hair and those eyes stunning
This is in the category listing perfect songs in music history
Duran ruled the 80s!
I saw this song live with duran duran in 1988 at the Hollywood rock festival, Brazil. Good times.
@@edumassak I saw Duran in the beginning of 1989 during the Big Thing Tour and they did play part of this song.
This album is so beautiful. A true masterpiece.
When your wildly successful bands splits into TWO wildly successful bands then goes back to being the first wildly successful band for another decade.
This may be the eightiesest hair Nick Rhodes has had in the history of Duran Duran.
Nick Rhodes went all the way out with the hair and eyeliner on this one.
If your watching this your old lol
On the serious! I thought he was John Taylor at first. Out of the way, tykely waif kids from Lost Boys and Beyond Thunderdome! Your hair is NOT sufficiently 80s
Thomas Dye He looks like the singer from Dr and the Medics lol.
Thomas Dye problem is this not Duran Duran .
John Roger and Andy had left they went on to form the power station with Robert Palmer. The bass player returned John I think but left again in the 90s only to return again when they all got back togeather again about 7 8 years ago only for the gutair player to leave again Andy I think
Simon and Nick are both freaking sexy as all...
Get tired of the DD and Arcadia hate as (pop) that's such shite, they were/are an entire generational inspiration and movement!
I'm a Duranie for life! Arcadian for life!
Also thier wives are the luckiest woman in the entire universe!
Hypnotherapy musically 🖤
For me, John Taylor was the best looking of the DD guys! btw shouldn't it be *Arcadian* ?
p.s. I always thought the first line of this song was "I've gotta look to the day..." Now I find out it's "Wild kind of look to the day" Bummer 🙃
@@chiefscheider Ya should have been Arcadian dam stupid phone I like Nigel John TaylorI just never liked his ego but sex appeal but yeah!
However hes not even relevant in this conversation because he was too busy playing power station while Arcadia was doing their thing
Also I'd like to add f**** Robert Palmer
I wanted to hear this because I voted today!
Me too!
Election/re-election. Well,I guess we know how that turned out.
I wanted to hear this because I'm suffering a super heat wave. 39 above forecast for tomorrow
I still wish I had my 45s cause I had this one. I remember buying it on a Saturday afternoon. Love these guys.
On this day in 1985 {December 14th} a video of Arcadia's "Election Day" was aired on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
At the time "Election Day" was in its first of two weeks at #6 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, and that was also its peak position on the Top 100...
"Election Day" reached #7 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart...
Arcadia had one other Top 100 record, "Goodbye Is Forever", it peaked at #33...
Wish they pulled they're shirts of and prayed 😉
Love the goth Simon and Nick 🖤
Kinda crazy that this is one of my favorite all time songs. I am a rock guitarist but this song is so dark and creepy it just appeals to me!
Kenge qe vjen nga nje planet i panjohur. Sa vite kisha pa e degjuar. Me ngjalli emocione te forta.
I prefer Duran Duran all together, but I loved Arcadia! Simon & Nick were awesome.
...and Roger on drums
My husband works at Turning Stone Casino & he’s always texting me about the music coming thru the speakers & asking who it is. This song came on, he texts me & says, “ this sounds like Simon LeBon but I’ve never heard it from your DD cd’s.” 😆 I explained who Arcadia was that day to him.
Yep, I remember this one.
I was a 17yr-old trendy bastard with an earing, spiky black hair and tucker boots, going to Goth and cyber-punk nights.
Got the dj to play this, from an album (Now or Hits) at 45rpm, with the low end cranked up (high pass filter), and the dancefloor was rammed with black clad arty types posturing and throwing strange shapes.
Memories, eh.
🖤🖤🖤 love the picture you just painted in my head ! So many good memories!!
Haha i love your story . You sound like a person i wanted to be .
You sound like me currently, but I'm no tredy kid with spiky black hair, in fact my hair isn't even black, it's currently blonde, just like going to goth nights, I go to actual goth nights not ones that play metal (yes, they still exist) I remember goth club days, I was just about old enough back in the 90s/00s good times 🖤🖤🖤🖤
memories...lies
this was my running song, with a yellow walkman banging on my hip....
Man..beautiful memories overload ❤ 1985!!!
This takes me back, I played this. album (vinyl) every night for years :)
This is another one of my favorite songs when I was little. I adored this song.
Listening to this track and imagine that it was 1985 when Nick Rhodes ♡ and the 2 others have composed such an awesome und technically way ahead of its period I'm still lost of words how underestimated it was and how little the attention, from the world wide music businesseswas.... 'So red the 🌹" was a "synthesizer pop-art" album that painted pictures through each single song, of emotions, feelings, phantasy and I doubt I need to mention that each track was a little masterpiece of its own. I am not wondering, why Nick was so in love by remastering & remixing it again and again until this jewel (very close to perfection) of an album found its way to the listeners. As much as I love Duran since 1982 now I always wondered what a milestone the 2nd long player by ARCADIA would have been. 🌠
What a trip...These guys pulled off some the funnest (I know, not a word) looks and vignettes and made some hella great music...must've been so much fun for em...
+OIforgot Is that Grace Jones in the commentary?
+OIforgot yes
+OIforgot Vignettes is a good word. Agreed. Cracking tune.
+kenny P Cracking tune, agreed. However I must protest; 'Vignettes' has to be one of the most pretentious words available
The Alfster Haha!! Very true. I bet a robotic politician would love the word.
I remember in my teenage years,hw I wanted to look, act n play like Nick.. cant believe this video still inspire me
One of my all time favorite songs!💕
So timeless. Takes me straight back to 1985. God I wish I was still there!!
Absolute brilliance. I love it.
80' s music appealed to soooo many people you had so many choices as long as it had a good beat that is what kept my attention
Listening to this reminds me of all the Prince side bands too (Jesse Johnson, Wendy & Lisa, Sheila E). So much talent there in the 80's
I don't think anyone would've thought they would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but they've taken their rightful alongside the rock legends that were inducted before them. They've earned it. (Simon, Nick and Roger that is).
WOW. Talk about 80's hair and fashion. Love the song too.
BEST song of the 80s. Those drums are 🔥
Quelle personnalité Simon le bon !! Et une voix😮😮
The song of the day...
November 3rd? lol
Still one of my absolute favourite songs.
Still the best Duran Duran song ever written.
Not a Duran Duran song... lol.
Still the greatest Duran Duran song ever made.
Wow 39 years ago? Election Day by Duran Duran 2023!
Este CD es atemporal!! Impresionante!!
Otro Tremendo Tema un Clasicazo de los 80.
Such an awesome track. Always loved this right from it's release. The video is so moody and cryptic.
Grace Jones en el coro, muy buen tema de Arcadia, saludos desde Chile
Duran Duran, and their spawn, were cooler than most.Even now!
+Bone Machine I made a decision to just get rid of most of my post-1990 crap, and I play 1970's and especially 1980's cd's and (yay!) vinyl. When I was clearing it out, I noticed a portion of my records were missing. They knew what they were doing, too, because they ripped off my Manhunter OST(very rare, and a brilliant film, too!), my original (imported, mind you!)Beggars Banquet label Best of Bauhaus, and the 12" single of With Or Without You. Fuckers!
So, nothing later than 1990 gets played in my place. I feel like the character played by Kevin Kline in The Big Chill, hangs on the stuff that made him so happy when he was at Uni. I completely empathise with him...and the shit he takes from his friends for it, too. Awesome music, too...
@@blackpeter70 The Big Chill is so sad . But its brilliant.
No argument there.@@fluorosco
Yup. DDs spawn, Arcadia and Power Station had some great hits.
Best Duran Duran song, I believe...
Duran duran armó dos bandas paralelas a ellos, arcadia y power station y las tres tenían exito, diganme qué banda actual puede hacer eso? Ninguna! Vaya que tenían talento!
En Arcadia armaron tremenda banda de músicos de apoyo.
This song brings back a lot of memories. Love it!
the Guitar melody in this song reminds me of another 80'S song that I cannot remember.....ahhhhhh!
Nick rhodes, john taylor, etc.etc.etc, simplemente magnificos!
One of my favs from the Album
Did anyone else in the UK have "Now That's What I Call Music 6" Released end of 1985?
This Arcadia song and things like Kate Bush -Running Up That Hill and Siouxsie and the Banshees - Cities In Dust.
What a mood!
This track just hits different today, Sunday, November 8, 2020.
Still have this cassette from Arcadia!!
Nick Rhodes kills me.with those eyes.
I love the LeBon Shuffle. Simon is so adorable in this video.🥰 Nick's eyeliner beyond hot.🥰
Nick looks damn fine with black hair
Nick Rhodes….such a legend!!!🙌To me he had the big vision for Duran Duran! This band as we all know it, firstly it was Nick’s big vision, and then came Arcadia!
This So Red The Rose opening is so special and the whole record too very special but extremely good and here something reminds Eyes Wide Shut from Stanley Kubrick.. LEGENDARY is the word that sound right with Duran Duran (or Arcadia).
The original boys in eyeliner. And they rocked it.
I still have the 45rpm single of this my mom bought for me at a Howard Bros discount store!
