This is always a daft task. It's unfair to judge them on their DIY competence in a competition about how good they are at business.
It’s one of the things that really lost the appeal for me once it switched from being an Apprenticeship to the Business Partner.
With an apprenticeship on the line it might (might!) matter that they know how to loose tools. If none of these candidate’s business plans are anything to do with them going door-to-door selling DIY services, then what does this show Lord Sugar about the viability of their business plan?
@@billydeeuk Yeah half these tasks don't make sense.
I totally get the ones where its like make a new ready meal etc because sure that might not be the exact thing your business is but all businesses need a brand, social media ads, new creations etc.
The stuff like this and the tasks where they go to India and have to locate 9 items make no sense.
I think it might be to demonstrate their common sense?
It tests how hard they can work. Even business you need to prove that you are ready to do anything even if it seems menial. It's not all about closing deals and negotiations.

How can you struggle to put a shelf up?? That's probably the most basic DIY job out there.
it's pretty impossible if you're a window cleaner and someone just asks you to put up a shelf with just a screwdriver and no instructions on how this proprietory shelf bracket is supposed to go.
not something you can expect to do in 10 minutes, without the right tools.
