You lucky bugger!! Once again a practical, informative no nonsense RIDERS review of a bike. Excellent and keep up this kind of content it helps us all out as riders.
After watching this video for the third time, I began salivating like one of Pavlov's dogs. In my mind, the GSA is my " Ultimate Motorcycle" . In reality, I don't need all those hi tech features to enjoy a bike. It all goes back to the feeling I had as an eight year old, throwing a leg over my brothers 2.5 horsepower minibike. From that moment 47 years ago, I was hooked! Thank"s TMF, for another great review!
I’ve watched this video so many times!!! Never gets old! I have this exact bike, 68 plate, same colour scheme… I bought mine because of this vid. Love it!!! Thanks Andy.
Love my GSA. It's given my a whole new outlook on biking. I've had them on and off for over 40 years but for the last 25 it's been fun only, dry days and maximum of around 1000 miles a year. Got the gsa in March and it's done 5K already. Travelled from Elgin to west Cumbria (310 miles) none stop in heavy rain and loved every minute. Still had 80 miles range in the tank as well
Another great review. I test rode a standard suspension GSA last year with full luggage and my wife as pillion. I'm also 5'9" and I found it just to tall for slow riding and carpark manoeuvres. Thankfully the dealer had a secondhand GSA with reduced height suspension. I was totally hooked and bought the bike. My best bike ever, fantastic tourer and so comfortable, maybe just a little turbulence from the windscreen but nothing to get worked up about. It's possible I may get an MRA in the future, not sure yet. Totally agree, absolutely fantastic bike.
Hi, I know it’s been awhile since you posted this, but I do tend to go back and watch a lot of yours when I change your bike which is quite often thinking of changing my bmw 1000xr to the GS 1200 2018 mainly for my wife to be more comfortable. I have seen your video on the differences, good or bad idea.
Well done as usual, I bought an Africa Twin based on your review and a long test ride. Was going for a GS having had the older GSA. But the cost of these bikes is now out for me. The AT is very good just done 560 MLS over the weekend with friends never had an ache, which for me is rare (excuse the pun). Weather as you know was pretty awful but the bike was again brilliant so thanks for these hugely informative reviews as they are so unbiased which us riders need. Best. David
Another great review of a bike that is most certainly on my list to purchase! I wasn't sure about the TFT screen but after seeing it in action I think it's great. Looking forward to the full TFT review soon! Thanks again!!
Yea, will be interesting to see what the connectivity will be like. Rumours say you need the BMW bluetooth, but I've seen the manual, and it says anything thats A2DP. So my Schuberth should be ok!! Roll on tomorrow :)
Love this bike. Great video. Now that is 5 years since it aired, I hope I could buy this exact same model and color scheme 2nd hand here in Asuncion Paraguay
Great review well done. last year I got a go on a GS1200 as my S1000R was in my local bmw dealer for a service so they kindly gave me a bike to take away till my bike was ready and I loved it.the 2018 bike looks great in the blue and white definitely my next bike thanks again top review
Nice to see BMW are making improvements. I have a 2015 GS, when I decide to sell I think a new GSA will be the replacement. Another great review, keep up the good work! Rob
I absolutely love your reviews. Really like seeing the British country side while you are riding. I like BMW motorcycles. They are aesthetically pleasing to look at, they build is one of the best. They are simply very expensive to own and maintain for the average Joe. But man I really watching your content. Its very informative and entertaining!
Just pulled the trigger on a 2018 R1200 GSA, traded in my 2012 KLR 650. What a nice machine loving the cruise control above all else . Can't say the stock seat Is comfortable though may be just needs breaking in. Your review helped and I thank you for that. This may be the last bike I ever buy May be.
As usual TMF, useful review and very informative. Please post the TFT review when possible and 1 personal request. I'm very interested in the new 310GS, and I am sure a lot of new riders too. Any possible review on that one? That would be great. Keep up the great work!! Regards
Nice informative review as always. I agree with you, the combination of Sat Nav and TFT is the way to go, the TFT does look great and I look forward to your detailed review on it. The 1200 GSA has always been my favourite bike and I have been lucky enough to have a few of them over the years. I am currently on a 1200 GSA TE, it's my third GSA, and probably my last. To spec up a GSA with all the toys ( as you do) plus hard luggage you are now talking £ 20K, I don't think I can justify that sort of money now. There are other options out there that will do the job for less money, and they are excellent adventure bikes. I think TFT will be the norm on most new adventure bikes soon.
I was really hoping Mr Missenden was going to address those crash bars on the GSA once I noticed them. Are those crash bars a new factory standard improvement with included valve cover guards? *In addition to the bars themselves and around 13:20 gives a decent look at them.
Thanks for the review mr Flyer! I'm getting mine this Saturday 😀. Without the TFT: in my view connectivity is too distracting. On top of that it's a shame BMW did not integrate the Navigator. Seems like KTM forced them to release the TFT too soon.
Having spend a bit of time on one with the TFT screen running the nav, it’s not distracting at all. The directions only pop up when you’re approaching a turn. It’s all very clearly laid out and you can get all the info you need in a very short glance. And also worth noting that you spend less time trying to figure out what the dials say (as on the old analogue dials) as the information is so much clearer, so if anything its less distracting.

Just love your reviews and videos, mate, but on top of them all - the GS videos are the best. And this one is no different. Just got myself on my first bike (it's a 2007 Kawasaki Versys) and someday i hope to own a mighty GS myself!! Keep up with the channel and ride safe!
Another great little road test, very informative. Just want to clarify that the LED aux lights have been around on the GSA since 2014. I also had a KTM1290s on demo but only for the day. I loved the power and handling, but getting back on my 2016 GSA was so much more comfortable. So sticking with it for another year and then may well buy the Rally version as tested. All the best from Tim ex Missenden boy.
Another gold standard review, fantastic bike, my only concern would be moving a fully luggage loaded bike around, probably 620lbs? you'd have to be really careful with slopes, gravel etc, which is probably why the crash bars are fitted, my other concern would be the longevity of all the electronics, probably really expensive when they break? keep em coming TMF!
As far as handling, the GSA is an outstanding bike. A customer brought in his 1150 GSA that had an 11.8 gallon fuel tank, fully loaded paniers and camping gear strapped to the back. After having new tires spooned on, I took it out to scrub-in the tires. That big GSA showed none of the extra weight. (I would have put the test ride weight at approximately 750 - 850 pounds.)
Another great review, I wonder though after watching a lot of your content are there any bad bikes, up and down the list of manufacturers you have tested and the entire price range from a couple of grand to this you find positives and no matter what you get on you seem to have fun. I think 19K is way over the top.
You're right Dexter, there are no bad bikes out there now, some are better than others but I have to work very hard most of the time to find things I don't like about new machines....makes reviewing them quite tough!
I have just bought a 2018 GSA TE, wow, what a machine, best I've ever owned. Thanks for this video which was very helpful (as was your one of the 2016 R9T which I bought, but has now gone for the GS)
Another great video. Love these GSA bikes, I have been debating about purchasing a late 2017 ,model but since watching this I will hold on for the 2018 models to come to the USA (I,m located in the Chicago area). I was born and lived in the same area as you test ride in so I love to watch and re live my happy youth there. My wedding was at Bray church and the reception was at Monkey Island. OK enough of that I am looking forward the video on the new TFT screen and controller Keep up the good work Terence
I got a 2017 GS Exclusive..first week the entire ignition system had to be changed..there is a current recall on all GS from '15 for faulty forks and last month a crack appeared on the intake...best bike ever when its working..better have warranty! still can't see what I'd replace it with!..you have to own em to understand..superb bike..but flawed no doubt..
Great review, and equally great scenery. Loved seeing the Chiltern roads (and Wendover Woods) that were my weekend dose of green when I lived in Watford a few years ago. I had the Blue and white striped R1150GS, and it's great to see the same basic colour scheme revisited on this gorgeous new GS.
After I posted my comment, I watched your ride video into Central London. On the same 03 1150GS I commuted from Watford to my work across the road from Buckingham Palace, so the motorway ride, filtering down the A40 and the roads around the palace and West London brought back a rush of different memories (not as fun as the Chilterns, but more "exciting"). Thanks for making my day. Now back to work so I can afford the bike you reviewed :)
Visited Williams Mcr weekend and couldn't believe the loaded £22k price tag on an Adv, I run a 14 plate but think won't ever buy new! the PCP returns will be my route. Although nothing wrong with mine it's great suspension, and has all bells and whistles. Interesting test you do, as always! Try the Tenera thought it went great when I tested a year ago comes at a price point, saw loads in Europe!
Thanks for this comprehensive review. That TFT screen is a huge improvement over what they had. It's incredibly clear to read, even with your GoPro. I also think this bike is beautiful in that blue and white paint. I want this, desperately. If I can only get my three daughters out of college. Oh and thanks for the fall views. I don't get those in California!
Another excellent review TMF, I certainly enjoyed that. I'd be interested to hear how you compare this to the BMW RT? Obviously the RT is road focused but most people including you tend to not go off-road on these machines, just a thought?
Excellent review as usual TMF. The speedo on the 2017 model is as you say very difficult to see for those of us with short range issues. I will be very interested to see your review on the TFT screen as I have been trying to find out more about it on line but as yet there isn’t much out there. It would be good to hear your opinion of it and the connectivity side of things. The impression I get is that you have to have the BMW Comms to get the full benefit of the features. I know you aren’t that fussed with the keyless ride and I must admit that neither was I initially but now after four months use on my RT I absolutely love it. Anyway keep up the good work and I shall eagerly await your next vid. Best wishes David
No wonder Bahnstormer loan you these bikes for longer periods tmf. To have people walking in their showrooms who dont need a comprehensive walk round must be a great asset. Great content. I might have even swapped my 17 Africa Twin if I had the money 😀
Thanks Lee - to be fair it's the first time Bahnstormer have lent me a bike for a day (the manufacturers I work with - Triumph, KTM and Ducati) all let me have bikes for a number of weeks....so far I've had no direct contact with BMW though :0( ....so I'm glad of Bahnstormer's help with these reviews...
TheMissendenFlyer I just swapped a Tiger 800 abs for an Africa Twin in August. I love the Honda but I always find myself wishing I had more. 1200 gs rallye, 1290 super Adventure, customised Triumph scrambler! The list goes on. . .
I love this bike. Money is not my concern. Just want the best riding, best quality equipment and experience money can buy. This BMW R1200 GSA May have tipped the scale for me. I have not heard the horn, to me an important feature with clueless cell phone using caged drivers. If the horn is unacceptable I would add the USA made Denali 120 decibel horn and lastly the Denali or Clearwater high 6k lumen for additional safety awareness and driving lights. Good job here Mate. Thank you.
Perhaps it's the styling and rugged appearances of a go anywhere machine that makes these big sellers, but unless I planned on riding off the tarmac regularly I would go with a K or RT, especially for full fairing weather protection and additional comfort features like the standard heated seats. Plus panniers are included on the K or RT. But I do get the attraction to these beasts. Nice review as usual sir! Cheers!
Good review TMF I thought the bike you were riding was the Rallye because of the blue bars. TFT screen looks nice, I wonder if I could retro fit to my 2017 GSA? I think its about time you arranged your bikes so the GSA will be the new arrival, you know you want it !!
Great review TMF, on the strength of this review and of course friends who own one, I’ve bitten the bullet and gone out and purchased a BMW approved used 2018 model with all the bells and whistles.
Thanks mate, another good one. I will probably buy a GS (not Adv) with the new display, so am looking forward to your detailed review of it. Rgds Glenn
I’ve had my ‘18 GSA almost a year now, love her just as much as the day I rode her home in the rain.. just a fine machine. And by the way, what do the wiggly road lines mean over there? We don’t have those over here… just curious..
Very hard not to like this bike and review. You always give us facts as opposed to hyperbole but I still think at heart you favour BMW over other brands and I will say I can understand and accept that. What I’m eagerly awaiting is your review and opinions of the new Triumph 1200 XRT. Think I can predict it won’t please you as much as the BMW but that’s where my money is going. Either way, you’re thoughts are always true and worth hearing. No one does reviews this well though, thank you.
Wow - thank you very much for the kind words - I'm looking forward to trying the big new Tiger too, I didn't like the old one but you can rest assured I'm as much of a Triumph fan-boy as I am a BMW one!
I've found your reviews to be informative and it's so hard to be objective on the big BM. But like you, I found my BMW GSA to be much more comfortable touring long days than my 1190R KTM but in the dirt the KTM felt so much more at ease than the BM. 21" front wheel and WP suspension is very hard to beat off pavement. I took delivery of mine here in the US 2 weeks ago. I was so impressed with the Rallye spec bike, I traded my old GSA(2014) and my K1600GT the day I saw it. The new GSA was so familiar compared to my 14 model year, but It does seem to have some notable changes to engine smoothness and maybe a little more performance. However, I've lost a few mpg's. Went from consistently getting 52 mpg on my 14, to 46-48mpg on the new Rallye. The new color and graphics is just superb IMHO, Keep up the good reviews,
Awesome review as always: Just a quick note. Please just give the phone's lens a quick wipe before starting to film (was comparing the quality of this review to your review of the standard GS Rallye.
I really like your reviews. Clear concise and to the point. Hardly any foul language like other reviewers. How would you rate the new F 750 GS? Any chance of reviewing it? How does it rate compared to R 1200 GS and the G 310 GS considering it sits in the middle of the range.
Great review TMF,fantastic looking bike.....love that colour scheme. If I was going for a BMW I'd probably go for the 800......the 1200 looks massive, but saying that I've never actually ridden one.
I'm not a KTM fanboy, it's just the KTM DNA that appeals me, but this GS to be honest is the best looking GS they have made so far. Finally a GS adventure bike not designed to look boring. Nice job BMW. In real life they look very nice. Especially that blue frame. I've never tested one, perhaps I should. :)
Always great vids, I picked up the 2018 R1200 GS Rallye and absolutely love it. Test rode the KTM & BMW back-to-back; both were great, but the BMW has that special feel to it. Thinkng about the Akrapovic exhaust.....is it worth it on this bike?
That's a serious piece of kit. Absolute beauty and an intelligent one too (rare). Great to see BMW made several improvements and not just whack a new model out with only a lick of fresh paint. Yes it's pricey, but it's pitched a the right market. People with a bit expendable cash who fancy some tour and travel, why not do it in comfort with all the trimmings?!! Nice review TMF, especially because you have one the previous models.
Great review TMF, I am looking to renew my 2014 GSTE and already have the Nav VI so I am glad you showed the new TFT display as I thought it may be surplus especially for all the money as an extra but from your report it looks like it is worth having so looking forward to you more detailed video on that. I took a 2017 GS out which was keyless and I initially thought it would be a gimmick but as I am always loosing my keys I would definitely get it, I also really like the Rallye but not the seat or screen.
Enjoyed that, as always. When are Dave going to give you your own series? Probably not totally sold the GSA Rallye colour scheme, but that TFT when paired with the Navigator looks really smart. Bought my straight GS 3 months too soon! The older auxiliary lights are also LED. The old ones are supposed to be prone to water ingress (of course, I purchased mine 6 weeks before the new ones came out...). Ah, life is but a hamster wheel.
I've had the "old" aux lights on mine for a couple of years now and I've not had water ingress...(I'm glad to say, they were flippin' expensive for a set of spotlights)....and lovin' the Dave idea, can you put a word in ;0)
As always love watching your vids! I have been waiting for this one in particular as I have half of the money saved and might I say it's very hot! The TFT screen is what did it for me but I am not sure they are available yet in the US market. As to the cost, most of the bikes you see in the US are Harleys, at least in the southern US where the necks are tinged with red. HD's can and do set folks back easily $30k US so $28 for the BMW fully loaded isn't far off...
Oh man I am jealous, having only semi recently been riding the GS is very much my number 1 bike to get. While I dont really go off road much the way it looks and sounds is so damn appealing and im not really a big fan of sports bikes. Looking to do my A2 and get the 310 GS very soon. Cheers for all the work you put out, its helped me along quite a bit
Excellent video - loads of info about the new bike. It amazes me how they manage to make a great bike even better. Can't wait to go for a test ride. By the way - lovely roads and scenery!
Great review as always. Now I mite be wrong but I thought on a previous review u said u were glad they got rid of the teleleaver front end? Maybe on some models? We got autumn leaves here also lol great time of yr to ride thx tmf
Great review TMF, after my test ride on a GS my only complaint was the numerals on the analog speedometer. I simply could not read it quickly enough and keep my eyes on the road. Yes the Nav 5/6 can display speed but that surely defeats the point of the GPS. I had the TFT demonstrated by the “sales assistant “ and it was a no brainer to add to my new bike order, the downside was another £500 to the end bill. Only 8 days to go. :- ))
Thanks for the great video...a couple of questions: Is the Dynamic Brake Light implemented on this model, if not do ylou know how to turn it on? The foot pegs for the rider look far bigger than the ones on my 16 GS LC...is that a GSA thing or did they change (for the better, I add)? Did the Hill assist option engage once the TFT fully booted up. It was not on at first, but dud that change with full boot?
Err re the dynamic brake light - I assume yes, but of course as the rider you wouldn't really know!! Didn't notice the footpegs and the Hill Assist option was always there I think - thanks for watching - TMF
Hi TMF, just a bit confused about all the different variations this thing comes in. when you say "Rally version" wasn't that the spec you were doing this review on or is that only available in the standard GS spec thanks for all your top notch reviews and all the time and efforts to that end. all the best.
Yes the latter I think - which is why I described this GSA as “Rallyesque” - The GS Rally has some red involved in the scheme too I think....I may be wrong!
Thanks TMF. Just found your review for the 2017 Rallye spot on,I will be looking at getting my first GS very soon and agree with you the rallye spec is nice just pops for me. thanks best regards to you
Lots of good information and I agree in that they handle a lot lighter than their real weight. Love the color scheme on the bike. Love the GSA, but a bit of an overkill for my needs. If I may digress a bit, I do have a question regarding your 2014 GS. You have a 2 year old posting where you modified the hand guards (with a Touratech product, if I am not mistaken). I was wondering how well the modification has worked out for you? This past July I purchased a 2017 GS. Getting a bit chilly in my neck of the woods and considering a similar modification for my bike. Thanks in advance for your prompt response.
Hi TMF. Looks lovely. The gearbox sounds a lot smoother and better than our current 2013 models through the camera. Is this the case when actually riding the bike. Thank you in advance.
Yes it certainly is - the bike has evolved quite nicely over the last 4 years, not an order of magnitude better like some of the magazines would have you believe (ie I'm not tempted to chop mine in for one) but they are certainly improved - esp in the gearbox....
Hi Man! There are technical differences between Gsa 2017 and Gsa 2018? Auto adjustable suspension? or any security device like in gs model, or cornering abs as Ktm or Ducati Multi enduro? Something change with the 2018 Gsa model ? And don't tell me the TFT please! Thanks a lot, i 'll be waiting for your answer, Far away in buenos aires. Cheers!
Thank you very much for making this review happen. One of my many self-imposed hurdles for pulling the trigger and getting a GS has been the dash. I want my speed to smack me in the face, and I want to know my engine speed.
Great review as usual. I like to embrace all this technology and like the GS's but don't you think they are creating a two wheeled car? We all know what BMW drivers are like 😉
Awesome review, as a matter of fact I just trade in my 2011 BMW S1000RR yesterday and oh boy! what a big difference on my riding position and comfort - In my humble opinion, she is just smooth as butter. I do have a question, how do you go about using the "hill assist" option? Thanks in advance. Alan from Southern California
You basically just need to be on a hill and come to a stop hard with the brake - I think you get an icon in the display to show hill hold assist is active (IIRC)....
First time subscriber here and been looking at your review for about 3 years and your video is one of the main reason I purchased my GSA today - thank you for your no-nonsense review. Enjoy your evening :)
Great review........ £19K for a bike..!.. I wonder what the pinch point will be regard bikes being simply too expensive.... We are starting to see adventure - touring bike perfectly suitable for the job (Super Tenere) for a fraction of the price... Is it the case that a majority of these bikes (GSADV) will become Chelsea tractors.... never going anywhere near a curb let alone a track..?
Dave Youde fair point Dave but a lot of people (like me) buy a GS as a comfortable, go anywhere , very capable touring machine. There are of course cheaper bikes but as the old saying goes you ‘pays your money and you makes your choice’.
Totally agree with you on this £19K for bike is a bit over the top, I watch loads of biker's travelling on lesser machines and having a great time I got a Tracer 700 and I know this bike will suit me for travelling around Europe.
On the one hand, bikes are no longer essential transport, but a luxury item or a 'lifestyle' product therefore it's one of the first expenses people cut back on so you'd think that cheaper bikes would sell better at this point in time with economic uncertainty ahead of us. On the other hand, if only those with the means are buying i.e. filthy rich, why not sell uber-expensive bikes since only the wealthy are buying them...
lol im in the same boat mate, just priced it up at my BMW shop, even looked into PCP plan (which i have never done) but i don't like the 7.9% APR and 2k deposits..I think ill have to stay with my 2015 GSA, its running very sweet at the mo with 19k on the clock.. Think ive watched this vid about 5 times now and yes I'm in love again,,, Not with you mind lol
The buttons are black? When do they introduce lightened buttons?? Have you ever driven this bike at night und you try to find one of the 25 buttons?? It's ridiculous.
I love the SOS function. Wonder how much a month extra that'll cost? Also love that single color TFT that can be seen day or night. None of that flipping back and forth.
Was hoping you would turn it around after your closer inspection, see how the crash bars work...next week a vid on hernia operation,And your first impression.😉
Great review yet again ,would have liked BMW to have jumped on the illuminated switch gear ala Ktm, and frame plugs for those dirt grabbing recesses. Bend over woods an aptly named yet beautiful place .
Finally a look at the 2018 model, we won’t see them until well into 2018 (or when you’re reviewing the 2019 model 😂) Looks like mostly refinement over previous years, as you mentioned. I like that new dash, very Star Trek, and the black switchgear, I take it they don’t light up? Looking forward to the TFT video TMF. Thanks
Good review, as always. A problem i forsee for high tech bikes is by the time they become affordable, to normal bikers on tighter budgets, they will be about 8 years old and i would worry about the reliability. Are the electronics going to work the same, and if not, they could cause a serious accident to the rider who is dependent on the safety aids. Also, if anything goes wrong with the bike, the owner could be faced with a massive repair bill running into thousands of pounds. The same could be said for the cheaper bikes with all the electronics, because after a few years old they could be expensive to fix also. Not like today where people can buy a cheap bike and any problems can normally be fixed quite cheaply but not so in the future
Yes good point - in the main electronics with no moving parts tend to be fairly reliable in my experience, but we shall see what happens once they've stood around on a few cold damp winters nights year after year!
Another peach TMF, thanks. Dunno if you remember me but I bought the 2018 KTM Super Adv S, it really is the bike with the best motor, that thing hauls ass, it's SO quick :) However...... and I hate to admit it..... the bike's not comfortable and I know as I've put 10,700 miles on it in 5 months. She get REALLY hot under the seat (unbearably so) and the seat's too hard, put those two things together and I'm now looking at the BMW. All told if you're going travelling I feel it's gotta be the beamer, although I gonna be absolutely gutted to let that monster motor go, can't afford both :(. Cheers again awesome stuff as always :)
Nice review! 'Bahnstormer!' - love it. That is a very nice bike. Is the windscreen electric and can it be changed on the move? An old chestnut: if not going off-road, better an RT instead of a GS?
You lucky bugger!! Once again a practical, informative no nonsense RIDERS review of a bike. Excellent and keep up this kind of content it helps us all out as riders.
Thanks you David, appreciate the kind words and will do!

Nice one - and I completely get where you are coming from.....lovely bike though none the less.
I’ve watched this video so many times!!! Never gets old! I have this exact bike, 68 plate, same colour scheme… I bought mine because of this vid. Love it!!! Thanks Andy.
My pleasure!
Still had 80 miles range in the tank as well
Nice one Harry!
Great idea!
Always enjoy your reviews, you cover all section of the bike pro's and con's. Keep the reviews coming.
Best. David
Great stuff - glad to be of help - thanks David....
Honda are cheaper on maintenance also
Great review again ; just picked up a 2017 gs te fully loaded and love it ❤️👌
Another great review of a bike that is most certainly on my list to purchase! I wasn't sure about the TFT screen but after seeing it in action I think it's great. Looking forward to the full TFT review soon! Thanks again!!
Great review. Im picking my GSA Rallye up next Tuesday. Will be my 3rd GS. Love the bikes.
Lucky man - did you go TFT?
Yea, will be interesting to see what the connectivity will be like. Rumours say you need the BMW bluetooth, but I've seen the manual, and it says anything thats A2DP. So my Schuberth should be ok!! Roll on tomorrow :)
Micky Haywood BMW Helmets are made by Schuberth anyways. Does it work?
The helmets are, but the comms are made by Sena. But yea, the bluetooth works fine, phone and music :)
Nice, thx for the info!
Rob
Cheers Rob - Yes I'm with you on that, although saving up may be an issue for me!
TheMissendenFlyer ...same here!
Thank you - very kind of you to say so!
Congratulations!
As usual TMF, useful review and very informative. Please post the TFT review when possible and 1 personal request. I'm very interested in the new 310GS, and I am sure a lot of new riders too. Any possible review on that one? That would be great. Keep up the great work!! Regards
I'm riding the G310GS tomorrow.....review to follow...stay tuned!
Every time I watch your videos on the BMW GS models the urge to liquidate my stable to buy one is overwhelming. What beautiful machines.
+Old Geezer You know it makes sense!
Great video again. I am from France and i do love your perfect english accent/speaking. Thanks Man 👍🏻
Merci! ;0)
I was really hoping Mr Missenden was going to address those crash bars on the GSA once I noticed them. Are those crash bars a new factory standard improvement with included valve cover guards? *In addition to the bars themselves and around 13:20 gives a decent look at them.
*BTW, I guess I'll find out in person when my ordered 2018 Triple Black GSA arrives at my local BMW dealer in less than a week. :^)
Thanks for the review mr Flyer! I'm getting mine this Saturday 😀. Without the TFT: in my view connectivity is too distracting. On top of that it's a shame BMW did not integrate the Navigator. Seems like KTM forced them to release the TFT too soon.
Ooh congratulations - exciting times ahead!
+Siniša Sharairi Thank you Sinisa - your time will come!
+Tim Gornall Cheers Tim - indeed, but these aux lights are “new and improved” for the 2018 MY
Excellent quality; becoming the “go-to” site for balanced reviews.
+Walter Wilkins Thank you Walter!
Thank you Jeff - and yes I agree on the fully loaded weight point, which is partly why I chose the standard GS over the GSA when I bought mine....
Yes great machines aren't they.....
It's taken me to the age of 66 to get one, but at least I made it and have no regrets, what a bike
OK enough of that I am looking forward the video on the new TFT screen and controller
Keep up the good work
Terence
Nice one Terence - glad I can bring you back some local memories.....
One of your best reviews to-date - perhaps owning a GS was part of that - great video
Thank you Eoghan....and maybe, I do know the GS pretty well by now....
Thanks for the review, first time I've seen the new TFT display in action actually on the road, looking forward to your detailed review
Cheers Marcus - stay tuned!
Had a 3 demo today an loved the bike. Pick up a new triple black next week. Took your advice an had the nav vi.
Congratulations!
Cheers Rob - thanks for watching!
Stay tuned - Tenere review is coming!
Beautiful bike I own a 2007 f650 gs man they have come a long way in ten years ....brilliant review as always look forward to your next adventure
+Phillip Payne Thank you Philip....
Tell me abut daughters and college fees!!
There's a trope that Europeans don't have to pay for college. Seems like it's a myth.
Always a pleasure to see your reviews...
+Roadrover Thank you :0)
Love your reviews, very clear, unbiased, all in always worth watching.
Good Stuff.
Thank you Bob - appreciate the kind words of support! All the best - TMF
My 2015 1200 GSA has the keyless ignition, so it’s not new. I love the reviews, cheers!
Thanks for the clarification Tony - maybe it's fitted as standard now rather than an option???
Another excellent review TMF, I certainly enjoyed that. I'd be interested to hear how you compare this to the BMW RT? Obviously the RT is road focused but most people including you tend to not go off-road on these machines, just a thought?
Neck and neck in terms of readability Paul, I guess it comes down to which style of bike you prefer....
Nicely done .... I am going to have to buy one of these ! Your video quality is simply brilliant. What camera kit are you using ?
Full details in the description!
TheMissendenFlyer Silly me ... I’ll just have to go back and take another look ! Your reports are top drawer ... keep them going 👍🏻
Thanks Nigel.....
Best wishes
David
Cheers David - stay tuned - that TFT review coming soon!
Cheers!
Cheers T Sav....
Good review TMF I thought the bike you were riding was the Rallye because of the blue bars.
TFT screen looks nice, I wonder if I could retro fit to my 2017 GSA?
I think its about time you arranged your bikes so the GSA will be the new arrival, you know you want it !!
Yes this may well have been the Rallye but with the screen and seat swapped out by the dealer....
Great review TMF, on the strength of this review and of course friends who own one, I’ve bitten the bullet and gone out and purchased a BMW approved used 2018 model with all the bells and whistles.
Congratulations!
Well done as always ! Looking forward for the TFT review.
Stay tuned!
Hi Mr. Flyer, I really loved the scenery in the video. Where did you film this, if you don't mind telling me?
This is in and around Hurley/Henley in South Buckinghamshire/Oxfordshire (IIRC)....
Thanks mate, another good one. I will probably buy a GS (not Adv) with the new display, so am looking forward to your detailed review of it.
Rgds
Glenn
Stay tuned!
I’ve had my ‘18 GSA almost a year now, love her just as much as the day I rode her home in the rain.. just a fine machine. And by the way, what do the wiggly road lines mean over there? We don’t have those over here… just curious..
They mean you can't overtake - usually they are on a run up to a crossing.....
Yes, you are and that does come across which is why you’re reviews are so sought after for balance and honesty.
The new color and graphics is just superb IMHO,
Keep up the good reviews,
Awesome review as always: Just a quick note. Please just give the phone's lens a quick wipe before starting to film (was comparing the quality of this review to your review of the standard GS Rallye.
Good idea! Sorry!!
I really like your reviews. Clear concise and to the point. Hardly any foul language like other reviewers. How would you rate the new F 750 GS? Any chance of reviewing it? How does it rate compared to R 1200 GS and the G 310 GS considering it sits in the middle of the range.
Thanks for the kind comments....and yes, as soon as I can borrow one I will film a review...all the best - TMF
Great review TMF,fantastic looking bike.....love that colour scheme. If I was going for a BMW I'd probably go for the 800......the 1200 looks massive, but saying that I've never actually ridden one.
You'd be amazed how agile they are once on the move....
Make sure you have a fat wallet before you go ride....these are lovely machines!
Always great vids, I picked up the 2018 R1200 GS Rallye and absolutely love it. Test rode the KTM & BMW back-to-back; both were great, but the BMW has that special feel to it. Thinkng about the Akrapovic exhaust.....is it worth it on this bike?
Personally I don’t think so but they are very popular and many people disagree with me!
+Gregory Peck Cheers Greg as ever!
I've had the "old" aux lights on mine for a couple of years now and I've not had water ingress...(I'm glad to say, they were flippin' expensive for a set of spotlights)....and lovin' the Dave idea, can you put a word in ;0)
Hi, what suit are you using in this video, and will you be doing a future review of it. Love watching all your great videos.
It's the RST Adventure - if you search "RST Adventure Review" you should find my review(s)
HD's can and do set folks back easily $30k US so $28 for the BMW fully loaded isn't far off...
....in that case, get your order in, beautiful bike!
Very nice, love the Screen. Looking forward to seeing more on it.
Glad to have been of assistance!
Excellent video - loads of info about the new bike. It amazes me how they manage to make a great bike even better. Can't wait to go for a test ride. By the way - lovely roads and scenery!
Thank you Tony - and yes I wondered about that too, but the bike is a definite improvement on my 2014MY GS....I think you'll like it....
Great review as always. Now I mite be wrong but I thought on a previous review u said u were glad they got rid of the teleleaver front end? Maybe on some models? We got autumn leaves here also lol great time of yr to ride thx tmf
+David Florance Thank you David - and I think you’re wrong, I love the telelever front end and the lack of fork dive it gives....cheers - TMF
Nice one Ed - exciting times waiting for a new bike! Look forward to hearing how you get on with the TFT....stay tuned for my video on that!
Thanks for the great video...a couple of questions:
Is the Dynamic Brake Light implemented on this model, if not do ylou know how to turn it on?
Yes they've worked a treat, thoroughly recommend that particular mod!
Great! Thanks for the information.
Cheers!
Whats with the Mac Donalds tray for a windscreen ? Gear shift pro assist is for racing fast gear changes Its not there for low speed shifting .
good wee review....I do like the new screen, I think you can it in the standard GS
I would like the comparison between the gs and now the new Triumph 1200 xca
Thank you very much for making this review happen. One of my many self-imposed hurdles for pulling the trigger and getting a GS has been the dash. I want my speed to smack me in the face, and I want to know my engine speed.
Great review as usual. I like to embrace all this technology and like the GS's but don't you think they are creating a two wheeled car? We all know what BMW drivers are like 😉
Mate your reviews are awesome!
Great video as always. Looking forward to the full TFT review. Do you know when that will be coming?
+David Griffith Thanks David - this coming Wednesday is the plan...cheers - TMF
Great stuff - hope you're happy with it!
Dean Child cbr1100xx £2400, takes me everywhere I want.
If you think that's expensive, here in Singapore you will pay around twice the price in the UK
Thank you flyer, I’ve been waiting for a good review. Did you put your order in. ?
No, love my own GS too much (plus I don't have any money), it's taken me this long to get it just as I want it.....
lol im in the same boat mate, just priced it up at my BMW shop, even looked into PCP plan (which i have never done) but i don't like the 7.9% APR and 2k deposits..I think ill have to stay with my 2015 GSA, its running very sweet at the mo with 19k on the clock.. Think ive watched this vid about 5 times now and yes I'm in love again,,, Not with you mind lol
Great review i'am tempted I have had four bikes in the last four years, and have a 016 gs triple black and just love it.
As always, awesome review, cheers from the tropical Costa Rica
+pablo aguero Thank you Pablo - brilliant to have you watching from all the way over there....
The buttons are black? When do they introduce lightened buttons?? Have you ever driven this bike at night und you try to find one of the 25 buttons?? It's ridiculous.
Only KTM seem to have latched on to the lit buttons thing in my experience.....
I love the SOS function. Wonder how much a month extra that'll cost? Also love that single color TFT that can be seen day or night. None of that flipping back and forth.
Amen to that!!
Was hoping you would turn it around after your closer inspection, see how the crash bars work...next week a vid on hernia operation,And your first impression.😉
Good review. Now it's harder to choose between the 1290 SAT and this one!
My long term review of the Super Adventure is on the way!
Great review yet again ,would have liked BMW to have jumped on the illuminated switch gear ala Ktm, and frame plugs for those dirt grabbing recesses.
Bend over woods an aptly named yet beautiful place .
Hehe "W"endover woods!
Finally a look at the 2018 model, we won’t see them until well into 2018 (or when you’re reviewing the 2019 model 😂)
Looks like mostly refinement over previous years, as you mentioned. I like that new dash, very Star Trek, and the black switchgear, I take it they don’t light up?
Looking forward to the TFT video TMF. Thanks
Correct Marc, only KTM seem to have woken up to that trick.....dunno why the others don't go that way. Thanks for watching - TMF
Very nice review. A shame for bmw that the navi is reflecting, and the new TFT not. Timo to make the the navi better!
Agreed - looks like the nav department didn't talk to the TFT department!
Cheers again awesome stuff as always :)
....Don't say I didn't tell you! The KTM is an awesome machine, but the BMW is just the better all rounder and to live with...love mine.
My bike - and so proud of it 😍😍😍 Great review, thank you so much 👍
Fabulous bike you’re a lucky man, thanks for watching - TMF
'Bahnstormer' - what a great name that is for a Beemer!
Nice video. By any chance will you be reviewing the BMW g310 gs ?
Funnily enough I am riding it tomorrow morning - stay tuned for the review!
Brilliant! Can't wait to see it!
Same as previous review, I'll take one . Some day, watch out for the old bill or nick as you English chaps say. Bloody good review mate.
+Eric Van Tilbury Thank you Eric....
Nice review!
'Bahnstormer!' - love it. That is a very nice bike. Is the windscreen electric and can it be changed on the move? An old chestnut: if not going off-road, better an RT instead of a GS?
No the windscreen is still via the knob on the right....
