I've watched videos after videos, they had to put so many coats on to get the lines "out" . Noooo. you still saw them. I subscribed to so many channels. I love my little pouring family. One I watch always used liquitex gloss varnish, with a Good foam brush. Looked great at a far. But when , he or she would show it in the light, they'd get all excited by the cells and glimmer, all I saw were lines. Because I didn't know better I followed the rules, bought the foam brush, then later on I bought a expensive brush For varnishing . Btw, that worked better than the foam. I don’t think I can thank you enough. I’ve been using polyurethane high gloss, but because of the streaks I started pouring it over my canvases to finish them. They turn out beautiful with no streaks but are so messy to do and I lose so much of my polyurethane with every painting that it’s very expensive, plus it leaves a fairly thick coating on the finished canvas. I can’t wait to try your method. I just bought a new bottle of pouring medium.
Wonderful Lynne. It really is the easiest method I have found. Don't worry if the first three coast don't look perfect. Not sure what is is about the 4th but it shines it up right.
I have used spray varnish which for me works the best. I followed the advice of another artist, used Mod Podge, ended up with streaks & lines on 2 of my favorite paintings. Didn't like to use Polyacrylic because it had to be applied heavily to get even application. Thank you again.
You are most welcome. Spray works great for sure Anna. Just don't have the space to do that in the winter here so this works better all year round for me.
Thank you once again. I’ve only top coated 5 or 6 of my paintings using different things and ruined all of them. The watering down of the liquitex will be a game changer for the cost. THANK YOU so much. I’ll have to order some ASAP
You are more than welcome Karen. Nothing worse than ruining a lovely painting. You can redeem some of those by using this same method or by just pouring Liquitex on directly and just tilting it off for a VERY heavy application. It is wasteful for regular use but quite handy to fix bad brush marks.
@@LeftBrainedArtist thank you. I will try to redeem. Where do you typically get your Liquitex from for the cheapest price. I live in a small town and will have to drive down to Dallas area or order online
Wonderful! Just keep in mind that silicone will grab paint and wipe it everywhere if you use this technique. Make sure it is 100% clean before you rub any painitng that had silicone. I learned the hard way this week.
I have 50 Plus paintings that I've done to sell for 'KidsFeedingKids but had no idea how to seal them easily. It looked like a nightmare. I have started on my 1st 6 and am sooo excited to finish. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!
I learned this technique from Wanda quite a while ago and it has been a game changer for me. Best technique for varnish IMO! Just wanted to say that I can not believe you do that WITHOUT gloves! Even wearing gloves I manage to get varnish on my hands and it drives me crazy! 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, I have massive hands and any gloves I have tried to date just break half way in. So I figured I'd just go barehand as the mess is the same. I do have to watch my hands with a bristle scrub brush when all is said and done to get the varnish layers off.
I use Liquitex gloss as well. Varnishing always gives me anxiety, so I put it off. Each coat seems to have something wrong with it. I'm going to try this method and hopefully my varnishing wariness will go away. Thank you for posting your method!
I’m not finishing them yet with liquid varnish but with spray varnish. I’m going to try to put a coat on top of my spray coat to see if it would level out my coating thanks for all your help on this this type of painting
It probably won't do anything for leveling. We aren't using enough medium with this method for that. And to be quit honest, most paintings don't need to be level. it is what gives them their character and says the the owner that they are unique and hand made not mass market. Resin is really the only thing that will remove texture and give you a glassy finish.
@@LeftBrainedArtist oh o don’t really want to ever varnish. It is to try to get the varnish finish, whether it’s gloss or matte, to look even when side lit. I’m going to watch your video on doing the 24x36 as well. I don’t have any coat on it yet Thanks again 😎❣️
Thank you so much for this video!!! I have been pouring for only a few months, and now its cold where I live and can't use the spray I usually use. thank you. your videos are always so helpful. I prefer cheap varnish as I am retired and live in assisted living with little income. I will try to find a little bottle of the varnish you have but I have little hope. do you have an inexpensive alternative? I just got enough together to buy American flotrol and varnish will have to wait a while
Another great video! I've had a lot of trial and error and have settled on Liquitex varnish, although I use it full strength and apply with a big sponge covered with pantyhose. I store the sponge in a ziplock bag for repeated use. My go-to is to apply 2-3 coats of gloss to heighten the color saturation, and then usually finish with 2-3 coats of satin, as I don't like the reflectiveness. All personal preference.
You definitely want to cater your finish to how you want the colors to look. Thanks Sherri. The sponge pantyhose definitely works, especially for larger paintings.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I still haven't top coated any of my pours because I am terrified of it 😂 I do have the Liquitex and I used it on an acrylic painted tissue box but I got bush marks in it. I'm not too bothered about it on that but I don't want to ruin any of my pours by doing it wrong. This was extremely helpful 😊
I am SO happy that you’ve done this…I have pieces piling up from my fear of ruining them through varnish…no matter what I’ve tried, they always end up getting ruined! So, thank you so much!! I hope this technique works for me as well….cheers🥂

Thanks so much David for this video. I had so much trouble varnishing my work and now with this procedure it's absolutely fantastique ! You're a genious and a great Guy !! Thanks again 🙏
Great video! I just started varnishing, experimented with a lot of techniques. Tried a synthetic brush, but didn’t like seeing the brush strokes. Next, I tried a silicone beauty blender and the application just didn’t feel right to me. I then tried a foam brush, and that’s what I’ve been sticking with so far. You do get some bubbles with the foam brush, but I quickly pop with torch once my layer is done. I heard suggestions of a t-shirt and thought it was crazy, but it’s nice seeing how the application works through your video! I’ll definitely have to try it out! I do use the liquitex gloss varnish currently and I absolutely love it. Also found a deal that was buy 1, get the other half off. I would love to try resin in the future, but as a beginner i am going to stick with this varnish for the time being!
Resin also isn't for every painting. Sometimes the shinny look just isn't right for the painting. It is way more money and time invested also. Don't get me wrong, I have some resined pieces I love but I don't do it too often.
Because of your great results, I will try again. After ruining several large pieces, I gave up on Liquitex varnish and moved on to Winsor and Newton spray . I really like the spray but I cant varnish right now because it is too cold outside and I would never do it in the house! Thanks for this video and I'm hoping I get great results as you did.
I use Liquitex High Gloss on the rocks I paint pour on but kept getting bubbles no matter how slowly I painted it on, and the type of brush didn't matter either. I look forward to experimenting. Thank you!

Thank you 👏
You're welcome Madge 😊
That’s exactly what I do,, it’s the best I have found
Thanks Kristine! I think so to. So much easier to do and do consistently.
You have the best tips!!!!!
Oh thank you Carla. I appreciate that.
Thank you. I have been using this technique and it works great for me.
Let me know if you find some good tips when varnishing lots of paintings at once Erica.
Thank you so very much for the amazing information on varnishing. Also for the tips with the 50/50 mix!
Glad to help. I had some bad experiences and I figured others might also.
Taking notes, as I learned yesterday. Such a logical thing but I was trying to remember everything.
This poor guy can't remember everything anymore. I have to take notes or nothing sticks or I can't find it later. Thanks for watching Jensen.
Wow!
So helpful and so simple,Thank you!!😁
You're welcome Liz. Hope it serves you as well as it is me.
I just finished a 24 x 24 with this method and it came out great! Thank you so very much for your tutorial.
You are so welcome! Glad it helpful Danette.
Thanks!
Thank you so much
I use Liquitex gloss as well. Varnishing always gives me anxiety, so I put it off. Each coat seems to have something wrong with it. I'm going to try this method and hopefully my varnishing wariness will go away. Thank you for posting your method!
You are very welcome. It really is super simple and the easiest method I havefound.
I don’t have any coat on it yet
Thanks again 😎❣️
Just learned that you can put half water & half the Liquatex vanish!
Still working on not getting marks & do about 5 separate coats! Ty!!
I hope you get the results you are looming for. I stop noticing the rag marks around the 3rd or 4th coat which is when I know so am done.
Thank you so much for this video!!! I have been pouring for only a few months, and now its cold where I live and can't use the spray I usually use. I tried this method on a piece that actually came out beautiful and was able to sell it. When I was done after 4 coats is was super glossy and so pretty!!! Thanks again and btw your work is beautiful and all your videos are very helpful!!
Glad to help Lori. That is exactly why I use this method now cause I can't spray 6 months out of the year.
Wow this was one great tutorial. Thank you ever so much. 👍🏽👍🏽
I hope it helps in your future varnishes Noemi. Good luck!
This was helpful...thank you!
You're so welcome!
So informative and useful!
Thank you once again!!!
Glad to help. Thanks for watching.
You have great content in your videos. I did not want to set on the side to thank you for sharing ❤ please never stop being you, you are just amazing, here to support you ❤️❤️👍have a blessed day ❤️
You're the best! Thanks!
@@LeftBrainedArtist Awe❤ I feel truly blessed by your reply ❤here to support you from the bottom of my ❤ to the best of my abilities❤Thank you so much for making this video❤. Have a blessed day❤️.
thank you. your videos are always so helpful. I prefer cheap varnish as I am retired and live in assisted living with little income. I will try to find a little bottle of the varnish you have but I have little hope. do you have an inexpensive alternative? I just got enough together to buy American flotrol and varnish will have to wait a while
I haven't specifically sought out a budget version but it does give me some ideas Nowan.
You are so welcome Mary! This is the easiest and cleanest method I have found.
This would make a wonderful isolation coat before resin.
It can for sure.
I am SO happy that you’ve done this…I have pieces piling up from my fear of ruining them through varnish…no matter what I’ve tried, they always end up getting ruined! So, thank you so much!!
I hope this technique works for me as well….cheers🥂
You can definitely do it if a non-artist like me can.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Non artist? Haha…although you had a different career path, your work is awesome! I think that you are a great artist! Thanks for all the help…cheers🥂
Thanks so much David for this video. I had so much trouble varnishing my work and now with this procedure it's absolutely fantastique ! You're a genious and a great Guy !! Thanks again 🙏
Glad it helped. I had the same experience with varnishing.
That was a super helpful vid! Thanks David! 😃
Excellent. The easiest method I found and I've had the least problems with.
Don't get me wrong, I have some resined pieces I love but I don't do it too often.
you're a great guy. you make your mistakes,so some of us don't have to .have you heard of that mirror glass shine
Resin is the only thing I know of to get the complete flat shinny surface.
Love your paintings 🔥🔥👌🏾 Thanks
Thank you so much Sheldon.
THANK YOU! This helps a lot and very informative.
You're very welcome Mercedes. Glad to help.
Very helpful.....newbie here....just about to watch your videos to us starters.......thanks
Thanks for watching Nats. Pouring in an amazing artform for those of us that never thought we could be artists.
Great abstract artwork only that...👨🏻🎨👍🎨
Thank you! Cheers!
I love the painting at around 0.35. Have you done a video on that one?
I don't believe I did, sorry.
@LeftBrainedArtist Thanks David. I find your videos very useful, by the way.
dude thats brilliant!
Thanks Sherry. Definitely the easiest and best method I have found.
Thank you for this tutorial. I sold a 15x30 and I think I'm going to use this to varnish my painting.
It works like a charm for me Donna. Glad to help.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Already managed 3 coats. I'm so amazed
thank you for this Video ,,im new to pouring and your tips are saving me so much time
Glad to help Paul.
That's exactly why I use this method. I love spray, minus the cost and needing a perfect environment. Good luck to you Malikah.
Thanks again for the lesson
Is a respirator required with liquitex varnish?
No unless you are VERY sensitive. I have a pretty good nose and I don't smell anything at all.
I use Liquitex High Gloss on the rocks I paint pour on but kept getting bubbles no matter how slowly I painted it on, and the type of brush didn't matter either. I look forward to experimenting. Thank you!
Let us all know how that works on a 3d object for sure.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Will do!
what would you suggest to use for applying varnish if the canvas is big size? transparent paper?
I've done this same method on a 24"x36" canvas with no problems. You just take it section by section. I actually metion that in this video - ua-cam.com/video/gHWq0Qfo3bg/v-deo.html
