Me too, why are we supposed to care about Candace? She has no redeeming qualities all we know about her is she's awful and a cheater. Honestly, I hated Beck throughout the whole season. And then the last episode happened... I was sold. The character is perfectly explained and, should I say, justified and the actress who plays Beck just blew me away with that performance. BRAVO.

I think this show does a good job on portraying the reality of people. I do not sympathize with joe, but nor with peach and beck. because although we’re meant to see beck as the damsel in distress she does very real life things like manipulate and cheat. and in the reality of social media it’s easy to cross that line of becoming obsessive and a stalker. we even saw these actions in peach’s character. the saddest part of the show is joe killing paco’s innocence by killing Ron right in front of him and telling him to never tell anyone. we know paco looks up to joe and is possibly going to become just like him. we see this in the last episode when he ignores beck and doesn’t help her escape. I feel like if the next season is taking place in california rather than NYC we are going to be following pacos story and how he becomes like joe
After Paco was told of all the legalities by Joe re: retaliation to Ron, it is possible that Paco was worried about who would protect him, because Joe DID (and even got beaten by Ron as a result of helping him -- which Paco saw). So if Paco says anything, he would not have had anyone to intervene anymore on his behalf. Based on that POV, it may be understandable if Paco is in denial of Beck's claims when he sees her locked up. To him, Joe has been a rescuer & it goes against the grain of what he knows. To follow that thread: it may be interesting to see what might eventually happen, if Paco begins wondering about what he saw -- moving on with the second season. Also, if he mentions it to his mom in their new location, and she starts wondering about patching Joe up. Just speculating...

I think Paco was kinda doomed from the beginning with his mom and her boyfriend. She cared more about Ron then she did her own son. Paco heard everything. Them yelling even them having sex. Just a horrible environment. I think if Paco did become a killer he wouldn't kill just to kill he would become a justified killer. And get rid of all the toxic people in this world. We will see. However in the mean time, she could not help getting curious about Joe's ex and went on extra mile to find out what has happened between Joe and Candace. You all seem to forget that Beck had very big daddy issues. This show was so good at twisting your emotions. You know Joe is horrible, but you also see how much he cares for Beck. You know the things he’s done, and you know what was done to him, but in the end you still hope it’ll work out. There were so many moments in this show where I felt what was said almost as if it were being said to me, and that’s rare these days. Candace saying she never loved Joe that felt like a bullet straight through my chest.

Beck is definitely alive still. The directors deceived the audience with the body bag at the end. It wasn't beck that was in there it was Ron I'm sure of it. Because we were never really shown Ron getting getting buried. So that means beck is still out there somewhere

2 reasons why Beck CAN'T be still alive: 1- in the last episode of season 1, Joe talking to himself says that he misses her, so she can't be still closed (but alive) in his cage. 2- the corpse found by the police can't be Ron's, because in season 1's last episode, the neighbor Claudia tells Joe that Ron is "missing", he sent some texts and just disappeared. So they're not aware of his death. The corpse found could only belong to Beck.
How dare Joseph kill Peach...... I think that Peach is still alive because when he was at the Salinger estate he shot someone but we didn’t see a body. Also the doctor guy was still in the house so maybe he got shot. And maybe Peach is hiding somewhere plotting her revenge against Joe and might make a return in season 2. And maybe the PI that Peach’s family hired knows where Peach is but Peach is bribing him or working with him to get revenge on Joe.... and we also didn’t see her doctor friend after so maybe Joe killed him but basically Joe’s future depends on a jar of piss

Beck was pretty annoying. She was just as manipulative and cheated on Joe with her therapist and then participated in Joe cheating on his gf. She didn’t take money from her friends but why have such rich friends when they’re clearly not right for you. Beck might show up during season 2 the way Candice showed up mid season 1, with joe hallucinating that he seen her and talked to her. It draws comparison between Candice and beck
This show is really about our modern willingness to indiscriminately advertise our lives to the world via social media, to a degree where social media itself becomes a protagonist. 'You' demonstrates how social media fuels empty, directionless lives, in which self-promoting characters are left vulnerable to a single, insane individual amongst the global spectrum of people they willingly broadcast every facet of their lives to.
In a way, Beck, a personification of the modern, aimless young person, filling her days with social media self-promotion, makes herself a victim. She lays her life bare through the open windows of her apartment and the open door of her Facebook account. Furthermore, her need to validate herself through her online image, portraying a high-end lifestyle among rich friends, leaves Beck living a lie as a self-involved, aimless and emotionally unstable person, with little meaningful connection to herself or, just as crucially, to others. It will be that need for a genuine connection that will attract her to someone outside of social media and get her killed. Beck is not morally responsible for her downfall but is complicit in her fate, like someone walking around with a thousand dollars hanging out of a back pocket on a dangerous, night time street.
The difference between the falsity of Beck's social media-dominated life and Joe's life, free from the self-absorption of social media, makes both characters deeply ironic. Beck has lived a modern life of casual relationships, the epitome of Hook Up Culture, which is partly driven by the mores of social media. In ironic contrast, the sociopath Joe has the more noble and old-fashioned sense of loyalty and full commitment to relationships. The heroine, Beck, is obsessed with helping herself while the baddie, Joe, is obsessed with helping those he loves. This makes Joe a better human being, despite his psychopathy, as Joe is a throwback to a time when people were more interested in others than themselves and human relationships more 'real.' Joe's rejection of the self-absorption inherent within social media makes him grounded, genuine, self-knowing and a true individual. This makes him attractive to Beck, who ironically has so much growing to do to reach the level of human connection Joe is capable of even as a psychopath. A further and huge irony of the story is how Joe's commitment to grounded relationships in the face of the facile nature of social media makes him a romantic figure to Beck, despite his insanity. A final irony is we end up rooting for Joe because his instincts towards deep, committed love make him the most 'human' character amid Beck and her circle of friends, all of whom live for Facebook attention and are mostly committed to self-aggrandizement and self-satisfaction. It's a fascinating series of ironic touches that lifts 'You' above being just another 'stalker' melodrama and makes it a comment for our times.

Reading some of these comments about hating beck and saying Joe is loving blah blah, really makes me lose a lot more faith in humanity. I think this show does a good job on portraying the reality of people. I do not sympathize with joe, but nor with peach and beck. because although we’re meant to see beck as the damsel in distress she does very real life things like manipulate and cheat.
and in the reality of social media it’s easy to cross that line of becoming obsessive and a stalker. we even saw these actions in peach’s character.
the saddest part of the show is joe killing paco’s innocence by killing Ron right in front of him and telling him to never tell anyone. we know paco looks up to joe and is possibly going to become just like him. we see this in the last episode when he ignores beck and doesn’t help her escape. I feel like if the next season is taking place in california rather than NYC we are going to be following pacos story and how he becomes like joe
After Paco was told of all the legalities by Joe re: retaliation to Ron, it is possible that Paco was worried about who would protect him, because Joe DID (and even got beaten by Ron as a result of helping him -- which Paco saw). So if Paco says anything, he would not have had anyone to intervene anymore on his behalf. Based on that POV, it may be understandable if Paco is in denial of Beck's claims when he sees her locked up. To him, Joe has been a rescuer & it goes against the grain of what he knows. To follow that thread: it may be interesting to see what might eventually happen, if Paco begins wondering about what he saw -- moving on with the second season. Also, if he mentions it to his mom in their new location, and she starts wondering about patching Joe up. Just speculating...
Laura Walsh omg I agree! I think Paco was scared, he was scared that if he unlocked the door for Beck that Joe wouldn’t be around to look out for him. He’s the only one that ever did. I feel deep down he knows it’s all wrong but he’s just a scared little kid
I think Paco was kinda doomed from the beginning with his mom and her boyfriend. She cared more about Ron then she did her own son. Paco heard everything. Them yelling even them having sex. Just a horrible environment. I think if Paco did become a killer he wouldn't kill just to kill he would become a justified killer. And get rid of all the toxic people in this world. We will see. It's a great show.

Beck hasn't survived and there is one simple argument for it. Her character is credited in just 10 episodes of the show.
I can’t with the whole “ I don’t think she deserves to die , but...” 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️💩💩 He literally orchestrated all their relationship killed people close to her and then killed her. She wasn’t perfect, but she 100% was a victim in this story just because she’s not the innocent cookie clean type doesn’t mean that fact changes and specially that doesn’t change just because enough don’t like the character. Joe is the villain period, just because we are hearing the story from his point of view doesn’t mean his a good person, don’t forget that his reasoning for all is not the truth. He’s a psychopath that created a whole narrative and then tried to force it on her.
The best part is that if season 2 it’s anything like the second book I will enjoy it so much👌👌👌💕

I loved how Elizabeth Lail played Guinevere Beck. But I do not like the character. I mean a guy who could love you so much, so incredibly, unconditionally and with all his patience could not be found in a hundred years. She was driven by that hollow cranium BENJI. He was such a bimbo. And then her friend. To deal with her choices. And then having an affair with that therapist who was barely visible under his shadowy personality.. and I can't even start with how ungrateful she was to Joe for always helping her( reality about peach, getting her a job, loving her and so much more). However in the mean time, she could not help getting curious about Joe's ex and went on extra mile to find out what has happened between Joe and Candace. You all seem to forget that Beck had very big daddy issues. Her dad never showing her the love and acceptance she wanted was probaby the main reason why she had such a low self esteem and problems having a healthy relationship with other people. For weird reasons, people seem to forgive each of Joe's disturbing and psychopathic acts, but hate his love interests for every little mistake🤷🏻♀️

This show was so good at twisting your emotions. You know Joe is horrible, but you also see how much he cares for Beck. You know the things he’s done, and you know what was done to him, but in the end you still hope it’ll work out. There were so many moments in this show where I felt what was said almost as if it were being said to me, and that’s rare these days. Candace saying she never loved Joe that felt like a bullet straight through my chest.

Beck is definitely alive still. The directors deceived the audience with the body bag at the end. It wasn't beck that was in there it was Ron I'm sure of it. Because we were never really shown Ron getting getting buried. So that means beck is still out there somewhere

2 reasons why Beck CAN'T be still alive:
1- in the last episode of season 1, Joe talking to himself says that he misses her, so she can't be still closed (but alive) in his cage.
2- the corpse found by the police can't be Ron's, because in season 1's last episode, the neighbor Claudia tells Joe that Ron is "missing", he sent some texts and just disappeared. So they're not aware of his death. The corpse found could only belong to Beck.

I think that Peach is still alive because when he was at the Salinger estate he shot someone but we didn’t see a body. Also the doctor guy was still in the house so maybe he got shot.
And maybe Peach is hiding somewhere plotting her revenge against Joe and might make a return in season 2. And maybe the PI that Peach’s family hired knows where Peach is but Peach is bribing him or working with him to get revenge on Joe.... and we also didn’t see her doctor friend after so maybe Joe killed him but basically Joe’s future depends on a jar of piss

...are you serious? Peach was abusive and committed massive invasions of privacy on Beck (not to say that Joe didn’t) and had inappropriate pictures of an underaged Beck. She should have gone to prison. Peach’s death was awesome.
Beck was pretty annoying. She was just as manipulative and cheated on Joe with her therapist and then participated in Joe cheating on his gf. She didn’t take money from her friends but why have such rich friends when they’re clearly not right for you. Not only was she blind to Joe’s crazy antics but didn’t realize Peach was in love with her or wanted to go out with her.

I think we will get a little more of beck in the next season. she was too central of a character for them to not show her death, or even her body. I think in the next season they will at least show how she died and when he did to her.

My theory is beck will still be alive. I predict that the neighbor at the end of season 2 was beck and now has a home and is pursuing her dream in LA. Love will have the baby and joe will cheat on love with Beck if Beck still cares for him.

Joe and Beck are surprisingly the two most unlikeable characters in the film . Followed by peach and Benji. Only Paco is likeable in my opinion
Let me clear it out, Elizabeth/beck is so beautiful and the character (and she irl too) so soothing and attractive that when she cheated, as viewers (we watched from Joe's perspective) it did reflect upon us. it's basic psychology and happens in a lot of shows. Most of the people fell for her, she's literally the perfect girl for most like a Disney princess (blonde, beautiful, perfect height and nature) or something. People hate her bcs their idea of the perfect girl got questioned
