Correct me if I'm wrong, but he only used the down special [B + down], grab [Z], and air dodge [R + direction] to go through platforming with no jumps, so the A button isn't required. Therefore, he could make it through as long as he only uses one normal attack, holds the button from there on, and beats the opponents with only specials and grabs.

If you actually play Melee, you learn how to do tilts without jumping. It’s called a tilt for a reason. You don’t have to use gorilla hands on your thumb stick.
It kind of seems like cheating to use the bombs, as it’s called a bomb jump. But I suppose it would have made that epic escape sequence absolutely impossible, so I can’t complain too much.
