I remember 30 years ago, they were exactly what Ollie’s is now; closeout and clearance items. They lost their way and became a Dollar General with furniture!
We have a bunch of Big Lots here. One has to be careful at liquidation sales. A lot of smoke and mirrors going on. I feel bad for those losing their job.
I have been to some store closing sales (not Big Lots) and the prices were stupid. Sometimes they sell the contents of the store to a 3rd party and then they put made up prices on things and then 'discount' them.
20 years ago most stores were a mess - maybe 10% of products were strewn on the floor! They used to have a wider array of products - large TVs, and I actually bought a laptop there. Then something changed and all stores suddenly got more organized. Then they really jumped the shark when they decided to make all stores into furniture showcases. In the last few years, I would only go in when they sent % off coupons. They started to carve out a niche as bargain wholesalers, and then abandoned that, and never recovered. (IMO)
Was in my local Big Lots today (December 30, 2024) and half the store had signs stating that these items are "Everyday favorites" and NOT subject to any discounts. Most of the store was 5% or 10%. No deep discounts on anything other than Christmas trees, and even those were subject to the "jack up the price and then discount" tactic.
Near me there was a JCPenny it closed down and had its going out of business sale around 3 years ago. Then a Big lots opened there. The big lots is on out of business sale right now selling everything including the shelving.
goes to show just how incompetent corporate is. I for one am glad these places are closing; they provided nothing to the market, and them closing just means business real estate prices will go down (or at least not skyrocket as fast) and will go to something more useful.
This has been going o. Since June. The only thing left are store fixtures. Need 8ft fluorescent lights, need retail shelves, need automatic electric eye door openers, need shopping carts? All50% off.
I remember when they first came out they started out as Mc Gragers .I remember picking up at a distribution center for Big lots and the sign still had Mc Gragers on it
I work for RUAN transportation have the Big Lots account I work out of the DC in Durant Oklahoma. They’ve been telling us for almost a year. They were going to keep the DC in Pennsylvania and hours in Oklahoma last Thursday they told all of us we no longer have a job. They just sprung it on us. They have been ensuring us for the last year that we would remain over. Luckily, I’m a truck driver in my company has another account for me, but in my DC loan there’s over 450 people now have no jobFebruary 17 is the last day to say some prayers for these people they need it.
I've been to a couple of Big Lots stores in the past month or so, but only one had any significant deals to speak of. That was the store in Amarillo, Texas, where I found 4x4 sheets of pegboard for $2 each. They were used as the backing for store fixtures, and appeared to be unused when I purchased mine. Regular merchandise in the store was pretty well picked over, so there weren't many deals to be found there, but I was happy to find the pegboard at that price. The store employees told me they expected the store to close fully a couple of weeks after I was there.
Majority of the Big Lots in Md. have already gone out of business. The 1 near shut its doors mid September and the next closest 1, had closed its doors in August. So good luck finding a store.
I liked Big Lots a lot when they used to sell actual closeout items. Then they changed to selling just low cost merchandise. Ollie's now sells closeout items like Big Lots used to.
@West-PAC I'm going to take the high road, gateway , your probably not worth 4 days until Christmas 🎁 rather spend time with my family then to respond to a mindless chat with you West PAC, I'm done.
They closed most of the stores here in western Kentucky. Most of their tools were junk. Many years ago I found my Rubbermaid saw horses Molded plastic with a large foot print. I found a Johnson level that is i use to hang pictures with multi hang points. I bought several and gave them away for house warming gifts. I think that Ollies finally put them under. Their stores were kind of junkie up till about 3 years ago. I rarely bought anything from them.
BIG LOT in Green Bay Wisconsin sale are coming but... Have not started just yet... They said to just watch for the start.. Just wanted to let you know... That's in Wisconsin...
So not worth it. The checkout line at mine is always so long normally that by the time prices are down it'll be a 45 minute wait. Plus 50% off a 200% markup is still just normal prices anyway. There's a few reasons why they're going out of business.
My best gaming headset came from Big Lots a few years ago back when we had Stadia. Cost all of $25. Used them with the Series S after Stadia shut down and they went out this past summer. Wanted to try and replace them with the same kind, but Big Lots quit selling gaming headsets. Still haven't found a set as good as those were. Got a pair of Razer Kaira Pro Wireless headphones but they're, cheaply made, over-priced garbage. Gonna' miss Big Lots, but they've been pretty much dead to me since July. =(
It’s cheaper to go to Walmart than Big Lots here in middle Tennessee, plus furniture who thought people would buy furniture from Big Lots , that was and is a joke
Also the longer you waited out the closing the higher the discount would be (they started real low at like 10%, then eventually a lot of things became 40%+), but that obviously meant maybe missing out on what you wanted cause someone snagged it earlier
Nothing tool related but went there today and nothing crazy but got some $5 decorative bowls as a gift, think the employee said tomorrow it starts because that was no crazy deal.
Since coof I think a lot of stores sold more of their inventory themselves rather than wholesale it. Also there are more of these types of stores. I used to go to Ollie’s often but the quality and variety of inventory has declined while prices have gone up. The candy cost almost as much as Walmart.
I was in the store in Coeur d'Alene this morning buying stupid little stocking stuffer things and there was no sale going on. Kind of boggled my mind the prices on the labels, I thought it was a discount store.
Most Harbor Freight in Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky are already within 2 miles of a Big Lots. Not sure if it's the same everywhere, but not much point unless the building is more valuable and leases are expiring at convenient times.

My local Big Lots went out in September. The jacked the prices of everything up then marked them down to fool people into thinking things were a deal.

@ exactly right. The liquidation company is running the show now and they aren’t in it to lose money.
_I had one and lost it last year, with no clearance, but I had some discontinued items that I had to buy for the last time._

Oregon Big lots closed up about 6 months ago. Checked out the "sales" prior. They advertised up to 50% off but that wasn't applicable to most items.

The sales are usually a con until they are ready to close the door for the last day.
Yeah but on the last day everything is the cheapest it can be. But if what you're looking at is it still there
@@bullithedjames937 I've only been in a Big Lots once.

No surprise can't call yourself "low cost" if your prices are the same as everyone else's if not worst in some areas.

Party City announced today that today is their last day.

"up to 50% off" 15% off a $10 item that you can usually find for $7, don't bother going to big lots
We had a Big Lots store near us but they started selling out around August this year, and they completely closed in October.
Keep in eye on Ollie's discount on East coast and mid west coast Menards, I'm going to miss Big lots
Where is the Midwest coast? 😂😂

The one in our city closed a while ago. The building has been empty since.

The one in Plover closed up 5 or 6 years ago....
Our local stores (central Arkansas) have signs everywhere saying "we are NOT CLOSING!"
Party city is going out of business also. That was announced today. 12-20-2024.

The 2 near me in Memphis already had their sales and closed last week.
Jeff the big lots around me hasn't had tools in DECADES!!!
Just found out today our local store is closing, then your video popped up.
Big Lots used to have a big tool and auto section.
We had one in Plover Wi that closed up 5 Years ago Now We have an Ollie’s in Wausau.

They closed one in Newburgh NY last year. Then just opened a new one in the plaza down the street a few months ago.….whats up with that?
It’s cheaper to go to Walmart than Big Lots here in middle Tennessee, plus furniture who thought people would buy furniture from Big Lots , that was and is a joke
Independence, MO store showing as permanently closed via google search. There's a handful of other stores here in the Kansas City area.
They found a new buyer, they may still be able to keep some stores open.
Back in the early 90s here in indiana, big lots used to be like a rural king or big r.
My local one went out at the end of this year already. They were selling the shelves and racks and everything inbetween.

Never been to a big lots, and no reason to go there now
I haven't seen a big lots since like 2007
Went tonight and their wasn’t any big sales in stores.
All the Big lots in my area closed about 4-5 months ago.
our local one in the Cleveland Oh area had its sign up yesterday
Thanks for the shout-out, Jeff 😢! I appreciate it. I'll have to check it out. 😃😃❤❤
the big lots were i live used to be a do it center hardware store hopefully they make it into a harbor freight
It’s pretty bad when the company that buys up other company’s going out of business stock can’t even make it. Retail is just sad anymore.

Couer d'Alene is a very under rated song by Alter Bridge. Myles Kennedy wrote the lyrics.
Did you see the supposed vet out front with the sign? He must bring in a lot of money. He has been there for years.
@@johnf8877 I did not. Might be too cold for him now.
Our local location is almost empty already.
I justpulled up the site and the banner now says up to 25%
Big Lots used to be Pic N Save, a place that only had good deals, then they went big time.
Our Pic N Saves are Grocery Stores Here in the Central Wi Area.
I've only been in the Big Lots in my town once in the 19 years I've lived here.
Yes Monrowville pa Pittsburgh has the sales going on
we will check it out
The liquidators know how to fool the people. They are professional schemers.
Ollie's has been buying the leases at many of the Big Lot locations.
when open no one was going now they close everyone is going there
Just now found out that the one nearby me closed last month
No signs at ours in NE Alabama
I have never shopped there.
Big lots by me closed months ago
Please do some digging and make a vid on sk tools now that they have a few years under great star. Still worth buying??
I can see many Big Lots stores turning into Harbor Freights.

@@rightwingsafetysquad9872 The two Harbor Freights near me are both next to a Big Lots in the same building. Are these two stores related?
the sale isnt worth it.
Best deals on power tools?
They wouldn't say here
junk store at their best, junk store
You aren't that far from Billings.
bidenomics is working
That is sad ☹️
Ollie's got to them
Sadly Ollie’s inventory and prices aren’t what they were before the plandemic.
I love biglots 😢
About time... That shit show has been unnecessarily driving up box store rent by existing far too long.
First!!
