@@protokevinleversee975 Thanks, Kevin. My dad was an outstanding test pilot. To answer your next question, the X-22A never could generate the speed the military wanted to make it a production aircraft. My dad used to joke that the plane couldn't make the speed in a dive!!
You dad would have known my dad. In fact, your dad may be the test pilot who asked my dad if he was going home to his family the evening of the first flight. It was my dad who figured out what caused the flight instability when transferring from forward flight to hover. Once solved, the X-22 shined in the unintended direction, thanks in large part to the exceptionally skilled pilots of this one of a kind flying craft.
INCORPORATE A PAIR OF PARACHUTES LIKE THE ONES ON SPACE CAPSULES, THAT WOULD BE THE ANSWER TO ANY CRASH POSIBILITIES, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE A DEADLY MACHINE TO FLY, I WOULD INCORPORATE PARACHUTES ON ANY AND EVERY CRAFT OUT THERE, PLUS AIR BAGS UNDERNEATH
This is 1980, give or take a month or two. My father worked on this project for several years and was transferred to a different project in late1971. 5:30 The narrator said "Space invaders" which was invented in 1978. The narrator also said Manager Beilman had been with the project since '62, and that this is 18 years later.
@@Mike1614b Hi, is your father in the group photo circa 1966-67 ? There is only one such image of which I know and contains 2 people, side by side, wearing hats. The rest of the group are without hats. In the photo, my father is the person to the right of the hat wearing men. I believe the impromptu photo was taken because of the left-side hat wearing person was visiting the right-side hat wearer, who was the VP. Mr. Beilman is in the photo.
My dad was the test pilot with the first 100 flights on the Bell X-22A.
awesome man
What happened with this - it looked VERY successful compared to the 40 years it took to build the osprey
