A meme (rhymes with dream) is a unit of information (a catchphrase, a concept, a tune, a notion of fashion, philosophy or politics) that leaps from brain to brain. Memes compete with one another for replication, and are passed down through a population much the same way genes pass through a species.

Memes have become a ubiquitous part of internet culture, with millions of people sharing and creating them every day. A meme is a cultural artifact that spreads through the internet, often in the form of an image, video, or text that is humorous, satirical, or ironic. Memes are often used to express emotions, opinions, or ideas in a way that is relatable and entertaining.
One of the most popular memes of recent years is the "distracted boyfriend" meme. This meme features a stock photo of a man looking at another woman while his girlfriend looks on in disapproval. The image has been used to represent a variety of situations, from political scandals to pop culture references.
The "distracted boyfriend" meme is a prime example of how memes can be used to comment on social and cultural issues. The image has been used to criticize everything from infidelity to political corruption, and has become a shorthand for the idea of distraction and temptation.
Another popular meme is the "doge" meme, which features a picture of a Shiba Inu dog with captions written in broken English and Comic Sans font. The doge meme is known for its absurdity and randomness, and has been used to express a wide range of emotions, from joy to confusion.
The popularity of memes can be attributed to their ability to tap into the collective consciousness of internet users. Memes often reflect the current cultural zeitgeist, and can be used to comment on everything from politics to pop culture. They are also a way for people to connect with each other and share a common experience.
However, memes are not without their controversies. Some memes have been criticized for perpetuating harmful stereotypes or promoting hate speech. Others have been accused of trivializing serious issues or making light of tragedy.
Despite these criticisms, memes continue to be a popular form of expression on the internet. They are a way for people to connect with each other and share a laugh, and have become an important part of internet culture. As long as they are used responsibly and respectfully, memes will continue to be a powerful tool for communication and self-expression.

At least I can blame ChatGPT for not distinguishing ‘distracted boyfriend’, a meme designed for quick humour by a relatable situation encapsulated in a single image, from the Nazi Salute, a gesture intended to boost the morale of a large German political party and prepare for both indoctrination and war.
I mean, the latter category is mentioned, but by nature of only using 2 internet humour examples, memes such as 9/11 and the Holocaust which derive humour from shock value in trivialising mass killings will be the only things that seem controversial.
As a note, the difference between the Holocaust and Nazi Salute is that the Holocaust was a strategy first meant to accomplish killing and then such consequence of the strategy was made into a meme by shock value.
The Nazi Salute started off spreading the idea of Nazi’s (meme replication) and on top of that, became the centre of shock value by association with a globally hated political party.

It’s weird how this channel doesn’t get a lot of attention on UA-cam given the content is actually quite good.
My feeling is because it has a bit of an traditional TV vibe to it that isn’t very trendy nowadays.

A meme is the pinnacle of shared conceptual understanding.
You know how you watch an essay or lecture or study a subject and eventually you get the subject?
You might have some ability to explain your learnings to someone, but it becomes a meme when it takes a spark for people to understand it (an image, phrase, sound byte etc.)
It becomes more and more a meme the less effort it takes to replicate.
Though power ultimately requires agreement, memes presenting themselves for judgement already increases the potential of agreement. More people, more people to take either side.
But above that, more people that are controlled nonetheless.
Politics, debates of all sorts capture both sides into the idea in the first place. The idea has power by acknowledgement, and judgement will evolve the idea to capture higher attention of more people. Soon the meme has impact on people in some way, shape or form in a chaotic manner.

Yeah, it looks like a return to social darwinism & with it the naturalization of a process that is very much cultural/contingent: the production and reproduction of the exploiters class ideologies. To that one adds the further rationing of education and monopolization of the internet and one gets something totally different from the ideological socialization of production that is presented.

From my understanding. It's a form of trend that may become a cliché at some point.
