- Here is a closer look at how Yamaha’s Grand Concert models (GC82 - GC32) are made at our custom shop in Hamamatsu Japan. A processed carried over to the models that are handcrafted at Yamaha’s Hangzhou China factory (GC22 - GC12)
I have been playing Yamaha Classical Guitars for FIFTY YEARS (,...yeah thats 5-0)
The Yamaha CG 111A, CG 100A, CG122 and the first G 50A from 1971 have all been great guitars.
I am a Fender electric guitar loyalist, and I have bought one Fender nylon string acoustic/electric guitar with a cutaway and will buy
one or two Fender Nylon Classicals just because you can never have enough guitars. (not because of any sound or quality premium)
I have come to find there are not many guitars out there for the affordability, playablity, consistent recognized reputation, and reasonable quality which allow one to have a viable assortment of what each one offers as an individual guitar than the YAMAHA nylon classicals. (entry level)
Sometimes you need two if playing somewhere, say should a string break,....you dont tune nylons in a moment,...trust me.
I played in NYC on the streets and would always take two in case I was beaten to a limp lifeless pulp and had to let them go,
......its better to go cheaper for that reason alone.
The CG 40lll or CG 40 whatever number they are today,..or the one up from that, it is true, and has been true, you can get a GREAT new guitar from Yamaha or even a used one for between $99-$139 or for the "better" one about $199. (or less)
Get a hardcase for it and dont listen to these troll nutcases about not buying a Yamaha.
They make great guitars,..I just cant cough up thousands of $$ each time I get a guitar,...the good news is the lower priced Yamaha will play great anyway.
I`m pretty sure trolls can NOT play as good as a Yamaha would let them, thats why they are trolls.
Even Yamaha's Chinese factory employees are trained by master builders...the amount of hand work and wood selection is second to none, even on a $200.00 guitar!
I would still rather have a Japanese one.

I’ve been eyeing the Yamaha GC line. Knowing Yamahas quality on the lower end guitars. It’s obvious the higher ones are some of the best on the market
The quality of every high end japanese built Yamaha I’ve played has always been superb! You can tell they take Pride in their craft
I've had my GC150S for 15 or so years. It's gotten a beautiful patina, the tone and sound have gotten even better with age. Absolutely love it.
there is no GC150S for Yamaha classical guitar. It is CG 150S

I have a 1970's Hernandez y Aguado that was built by Hidi Ezaki who went on to work at Yamaha after working with Aguado in Spain.
I love to see instruments being built by professional craftsmen. In case of the GC-series it seems to be a silent, nearly meditative kind of work most time. I wonder how many instruments of this series can be produced in a year and how many people are involved in production? Kawashima-san, Yamauchi-san and Nakamura-san seem to be the masters any apprentice would like to get taught from.

Tengo una guitarra "Yamaha" G-250-S, la tengo en mi poder hacer 34 años y la mantengo impecable. Suena muy bien, encordada con cuerdas "Savarez"-Alliance 5320j. La uso para estudio y para interpretar algunas obras no muy complicadas, mis manos a los 81 años ya no responden como antes pero sigo adelante. Que opinión tienen de esta guitarra? Saludos.
Esas guitarras fueron las primeras y su nivel es de concierto. ¿No conoces la historia? Uno de los inventores de la guitarra clásica en España, el Laudero José Ramirez, tuvo unos cuantos alumnos; uno de ellos se fue a Japón y trabajó con Yamaha, ahí aprendieron a hacer esas guitarras. Actualmente las guitarras de concierto son muy costosas y no sabría decirte si una Ramirez es más o menos costosa que una Yamaha Gran concierto.

Hola. No tengo una Yamaha 250. Tengo una C300, hecha en Japón, y otra, G231, hecha en Taiwán. La C300 me llegó recientemente, y está casi nueva, creo que se almacenó por muchos años, y anticipo que su voz mejore más al tocarla conforme pase el tiempo. La G231 tiene una voz suave y muy dulce. Alguien ya indicó que es bueno tener más de una guitarra clásica. Yo concuerdo, y hasta opino que las guitarras son como herramientas de expresión musical. Unas se prestan más que otras para ciertos tipos de música. Aún así, me encanta ver la madera bien acabada en la tapa de una guitarra bien hecha, son cómo obras de arte. Ah, se me olvidaba. Yo también uso cuerdas Savarez, de tensión normal.
Yamaha's hand made line of guitars is very good, but except for some 660 mm models from the early 70s, the neck profiles are generally too shallow (not deep enough), and do not have enough shoulder on them. By contrast the comparably priced Spanish made instruments are inferior in construction and materials but the neck profiles are superb.
Hi there, was shopping for a brand new Yamaha cedar top classical guitar (matte finish) and noticed a blemish on the top that looks like a bad shelac job the size of a penny. The shop assistant assured me it was nothing. Brought it home and immediately noticed it was actually a wrinkle (lagoon shape) on guitar top (upper bout, low E string but near the side) when the light hits it a certain way. It wasn't as pronounced in the showroom. Felt a small bump with my finger and wondered if it was a structural problem or loose brace. Not sure if it is related but when I pluck low E or low A string, it sounds hollow (for the lack of a better word). Is it a setup or wood problem?
Anyway, a top wrinkle, Is this kind of thing purely cosmetic or is it a defect that affects the sound quality? I have been sleepless over it worrying for the future life of the instrument I expect to last at least 20 years.

The guitar top looks as it the bridge has been attached and then removed.
I think that's just a tape covering, to prevent varnish getting onto the bridge placement area
A lot of these manufacturers prior to finishing the instrument, have a general idea of where the bridge will go on the body and they mask that off with tape. After they achieve the desired intonation they would keep that tap there on the body, and apply finish. Doing this, will allow them to quickly attach the bridge and make sure that the area is left finish free. This is a much better way of doing rather than finishing the entire guitar, then intonating it, stripping the finish off of the bridge area.
