Probably the most interesting of all the Exodia matches. Chaos is the only deck that wouldn't simply steamroll Exodia to win, they countered the strategy in different ways.
Some puzzling decisions from Exodia, like not just searching the last 2 pieces off that Graceful in game 1, and not summoning Sangan for Cannon in game 4. But of course it takes the match anyway. I really think this deck can win the whole cup.
idk if you guys are intentionally throwing for content but game 4 was a no-brainer reborn sangan and summon cannon soldier then BOOM. Also even if I don't have my normal summon I'd do the same.. if you destroy sangan or witch I win
These last will matches are not that realistic - I mean I know that this was the usage of the card back then, but I’m pretty sure Konami didn’t intend to use it to special summon endless monsters in 1 turn…,
I think they unintentionally worded the card by mistake because back then special summon was that rare that monster reborn was already limited - thats why in my opinion this deck should not participate

Can someone explain how last will is finding so many cards from the single cannon solider sacrifice I feel like a few months ago I maybe understood how stupid broken it was now I don't get how the searches work anymore
The original Last Will did not have a Once per Turn restriction at all. So Cannon Soldier tributing itself in combination with Last Will = Exodia FTK cause Last Will would summon the second Cannon Soldier from the deck as well as every Sangan and Witch you need
wish i knew myself. i think its been programmed incorrectly. i think after it gets activated the first time it see a monster being sent to the graveyard it retriggers for every monster sent before activation within the same turn
It’s using the text from the very first printing of last will in ocg where it’s not once per turn (let alone per copy). So one monster hitting the graveyard lets the player using the card to go off

Chaos did well to scrape out a couple wins, but really, they just don't have the tools to beat Exodia consistently. Crazy to see a 1999 deck make it almost all the way to the finals. Metalfoes definitely can pose a tougher test, but again...how is Metalfoes really interacting with them? Then if they win, they have to beat Spellbooks, which can absolutely crucify them with a single Jowgen. They have literally almost no way to out the Jowgen/Wisdom lock. Next matchup...drumroll please. It's a match that many thought could be the finals. Of course, Ishizu Tear is the favorite, BUT Kashtira is a deck that is literally designed to beat them. Likely going to be a battle of Dimension Shifter vs Orange Light.
i noticed chaos had a much better chance of winning when it went first. also this match up was CED vs. last will. given exodia lost to spellbooks because of macro or fissure, shifter stops the last will combo.
this was truly a fun and interesting experiment to kind of mix it up for this year, but this deck just cannot come back next year or any other year, it's just so boring to watch and un-engaging to both play against and to play just in general. every "match" is just a non-game where the deck either gets blown out or blows the other deck out. worth it to showcase the historical context and all that, but genuinely not a fan if i'm being honest
I disagree. Seeing unique decks like these more than once over the same vanilla PEPE for the 1000th time is nice, so I say either bring it back next year like this, or as a challenger.

exodia is likely to lose to the B bracket meta decks because they are far more powerful and they have more disruptors. exodia lost to spellbooks because its biggest weaknesses are hand traps like droll and lock bird and floodgates such as jowgen and macro cosmos. furthermore, tears, kashtira, snake eyes and sprights have access to shifter which kills exodia and badly needs that ftk. if exodia went 3-2 against chaos when it did not go first then it would be lucky to even win a single duel. exodia 1999 is a powerful deck, but tears is a league of its own.
it is fair game given it is to show how a deck back then would have held up with other decks. the fact that this was the first tier 0 deck ever and even predates the tcg by about 27 months is very impressive. imagine if painful choice was printed at the same time as last will. also if it wins the older bracket (which was proven that spellbooks have won against it because of its floodgates and hand traps) then it is going to have an even harder match up against a post 2020 deck where shifter is commonly used. hand traps and floodgates easily stop exodia.
@@RoryWilliamson given its history i am for wanting to see it return given how powerful it was. the decks that underperform in the CBC like demise otk should be retired as the whole tournament is to see which deck is the best. some decks though do appear as special challengers however like scientist and makyura ftk decks. tears was last year and remained undefeated in the 9 matches. honestly i would like to see a different cbc where what would decks look like if the ban list did not exist and instead traditional format is all that remained.
