Unfortunately that's happening in the US too and the city is allowing these businesses to operate in residential neighborhoods. Im not sure if that's allowed😒

@@bradleysimmons8150 Last year my niece left work early to visit my dying brother (her uncle) for the last time. She arrived at her car to find some jerk cutting off the second converter. So she had a few hours less time to spend on the last day of her uncle's life. And the thief ruined her car, which was paid off and in great shape. So she buried her uncle and has a car payment. There needs to be a paper trail with VINs on each converter. Period.
scrap yards have no morals they will buy anything stolen and I hope someday they buy their own cat stolen from their vehicle. my county passed an ordinance that requires a permit to sell copper and it ain't easy to get a permit. maybe they should do the same for cats.
I don’t like the idea of needing scrapping permits, but creating one to sell cats would have the same result, just sell the stolen ones to someone with a permit. All it does is create an extra step right?
I know that sounds like a solution but it would only make things worse. It’s just the material within that is valuable, so if you regulate it too hard you’d create a black market for platinum group recovery. Remember how prohibition created wealthy and powerful gangs because of how profitable it was? You’d have that. But with back-room refineries with dangerous chemicals being poured into sewer systems.

Ecocat is way far off prices we are getting in ontario, sometimes way high, more often then not, way low best bet when selling cats is send pics/codes to a few buyers for quotes, you'll earn much, much more, also, pull the o2 sensors, they're worth $$$ too
@@thubprint A gram of platinum is something like $50+ for genuine unrefined platinum. From catalytic converters it's usually around $20. You can usually get around $150 for a used cat. If you can find someone in California, just send the cat in a USPS flat rate box - $15.99 for up to 75lbs 2-3 day Priority Mail with tracking.
They definitely estimate in a way that leaves a profit for them if you sell to the app, but it is an easy way to get a general “at least this much” price.
Your parents should have used a sperm sponge or snuffed you two out in the crib. Blame greed or the monitory systems that create division instead of something like a barter system that creates unity... Idiots, get a book
From what I see you can make WAY W A Y more scrapping aluminum cans. The cats are all but worthless if you ask me. Stealing them for $10 each is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. Even if you had a pile of cat cores they wouldn't be worth clean aluminum scrap prices by weight. The labor to collect and cut out cores and cost of blades would not be recovered if you had a thousand cores. Not to mention the filthy residue you make and spread and breath.
Well to be clear, I compared it to visually similar ones that ranged from $50-200, and said id be happy with $50. I learned that the price on the app was a scrap purchaser price and not final refining value though so knowing that, a person should aim for at least as much as the app says
I took mine off of my parts car and received $650.00 for it. Been thinking of taking mine off of my car I drive and put a straight pipe. I wouldn't get that much out of it if someone was to total my car because it's an older model but not cheap at all to repair but will go for many many miles. The thing is a lot of people go around and see people have cars sitting in there yard and either ask what they would want for the car or if they would want to may a $100 bucks on the cat. Most people will do it because they need the money. I just knew something was up when I get a call asking me if I would take $100 each for them so I was like let me think about it and I called around and I finally got a hold of a guy close to me and he told me that he could give me $650 total. He said he was tired of people. Going around and screwing people and he wanted to give a fair price. I'm sure he is making what he's paying especially with the prices of the 3 precious metals Platinum the other one that starts with a p and Rotum which I don't know how to spell it. But I believe the other precious metal that starts with a P is going for more then gold per Oz. Then the rotum is going for $20,000 for an oz. I seen that on Google the other day. So yes keep your eye on your cars. Especially foreign cars. Only thing I know is the guy that bought mine has to have a certain amount of weight before he takes it to who ever to get paid for his. But like I said I'm sure he is making double on what he pays people but that is ok because going from $200 to $650 made a big difference to me. So if you have any cars that don't run, call around and give the people you call the numbers on the cat and they will tall you what it is worth before you even decide to cut it off your car. But I'm sure prices are only going to go higher because the demand for those 3 precious metals is on the rise. Junk yards are probably making a killing. Hope this helps, God bless 🙏💞🙏
I’ve only possessed less than ten scrap converters in my life, but I always felt completely in the dark where prices were concerned so I was pretty excited to be able to put this together. Maybe you’ll trip over a couple someday, and you’ll be able to assess them now 😉

Any help appreciated. The theft really screwed me and my car over for what seems like chump change. Ugh.
Yep, the amount they’ll get for it is nowhere near the damage. It’s just like when someone steals a purse or phone, the replacement costs to the victim are many times greater than the profit to the thief. You do need identification and a registered vehicle to be served at a scrapyard but that doesn’t do much to solve crimes, it’s just a paper trail for the tax man. Used cats don’t really happen but you can get an aftermarket one for much cheaper. They clearly aren’t as good but they do the job for 60k miles or so.
We operate an auto repair facility, and one night, thieves stole the cat converters from several customers' vehicle that were parked in our customer parking lot. Cost of replacement was from $600 to over $1400 depending on the vehicle. The thieves were well 'known' to police and were caught a few weeks later. They are a crew who go out every night to steal cat converters, and the buyers never question where they come from, or if they are stolen. In my opinion, the buyers should be charged with receiving stolen property. After all, they are profiting from the proceeds of crime. As for our shop, we've recently spent a lot of money on surveillance equipment.
@@jat-justamaturetech-philpj8285 We contacted police and our insurers immediately, but the insurance company informed us that the car owners' insurance pays the claim to each car owner. It can be compared to your car being vandalized in the parking lot of a big store or supermarket, your own insurance company would pay for the damages to your vehicle. However, we did offer to pay the deductible fees for the insurance claims and we waved the labor charges to repair the vehicles. The clients/victims were compensated by their own insurers for the costs of the parts. We have since installed more outdoor lighting and a surveillance camera system.

Pt, Pd, and Rh that is plated on the ceramic honeycomb are noble metals that have an extreme tolerance to corrosion and an extremely high melting point. They also have a very unique feature and that is that in combination these three precious metals actually have the ability to be Catalysts in a chemical reaction. Catalyst = to speed up. Every single type of fossil fuel burned in a combustion engine create very hot off gasses of NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) and CO (Carbon Monoxide) both of these off gasses are said to have an effect on ground level ozone which is detrimental to human and animal health. Although NOx and CO when in contact with UV Radiation create O3 (ozone) --> smells like chlorine, this is technically good for high altitude because this is what thickens our ozone layer, the addition of more O3 molecules. Here's where things get tricky, at ground level if these gases were to come straight out of our tail pipes this would create ground level O3 during times in which we experience high UV from longer days. This unfortunately only happens when the sun is out, not as the days turn to night. O3 at ground level is bad for us no matter what and this in high concentrations creates smog. Another thing is that if our engines didn't have these metals inside the catalytic converters of our engines exhaust stream, then we would be contributing to highly toxic health concerns for our population at our lower atmosphere. Also a very complex issue is created when daylight helps to convert these off-gasses to O3, and at nighttime these unchanged gases go through complex chemical reactions leading to a high amount of greenhouse gases as these gases rise to higher altitudes and constantly react and change and become Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) our ozone layer causing its depletion. As per the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's take on this more complex part of the process, they state "Most stratospheric ozone depletion is caused when chlorine or bromine reacts with ozone. Most of the chlorine entering the stratosphere is from man-made sources (84%), such as CFCs and HCFCs with the remaining 16% from natural sources, such as the ocean and volcanoes. About half of bromine entering the stratosphere is from man-made sources, mostly Halons." "While acting to destroy ozone, CFCs and HCFCs also act to trap heat in the lower atmosphere, causing the earth to warm and climate and weather to change. HFCs, which originally were developed to replace CFCs and HCFCs, also absorb and trap infrared radiation or heat in the lower atmosphere of the earth. HFCs, CFCs and HFCs are a subset of a larger group of climate changing gases called greenhouse gases (GHGs). Taken together greenhouse gases are expected to warm the planet by 2.5 to 8 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of century." To sum things up a little, this is the reason all combustion burning engines should have catalytic converters, they catalyze (speed up) the chemical reaction to change the harmful NOx and CO being off-gassed to a more suitable and easier to manage H2O (water) and CO2 (carbon dioxide). People who feel its good to steal these items from vehicles are contributing to the depletion of our ozone and destroying this planet and making people suffer at the expense of your selfish temporary financial gain. People who do cat deletes on their vehicles to make them sound better are just as guilty, and anyone who hollows out a clogged cat, or does a cat delete because you cant afford to replace it as also just as guilty. These products are necessary and exactly why it was mandated that all manufacturers selling vehicles in the US are required to have these on their vehicles.
No unfortunately when I have a concern about things or if I look for an answer to a question and it becomes complex, then I obsess over it, if it surprises me and I'm able to continue to find pieces of the puzzle that speak to me in a way in which it makes sense and I can learn and stay interested. So I just really enjoy finding the full truth about some things and collecting all that knowledge and sharing it if I'm able to do so. I actually don't even have a degree technically but I've been through roughly 6 or 7 combined years of higher education, if one were to tall all the semesters and credit hours. Sometimes a degree is just a piece of paper, but nonetheless I believe college and higher level education are necessary for an educated, professional, and diligent workforce. I believe one develops the necessary skill set within the upper level courses (300s and 400s) of higher education, to be able to get interested in a complex understanding of a scientific unknown to a degree that deep to hunt it all down and piece it all together. I'm not saying it's a requirement though, but it certainly was where I gained the ability. Something that may surprise ya is, I've never taken a single chemistry course in my education, but I now in life and my career path I certainly wish I had. 💯🤷

For those who wonder, catalytic converter prices vary from vehicle to vehicle, buyer to buyer, and content regardless of vehicle. Most normal converter prices range from $25 to $3000. Some of the better ones are found on Toyotas, Hondas, and large diesel trucks. I was getting $1800 for Honda Element converters at one time. Ford F250, F350 trucks from about 2000 - 2005 were getting $2200. Some Dodge and Ford diesel trucks were fetching $3000. Crown Victorias and Mercury Marquis were getting $1200 for the group of four. Just for some ideas. The value can be different on the same vehicles with same looking converters also! Some converters are made with much more precious metal for cleaner exhausts depending on the laws of each State. Vehicles made to be sold in California have much higher values on their converters.

scrap yards have no morals they will buy anything stolen and I hope someday they buy their own cat stolen from their vehicle. my county passed an ordinance that requires a permit to sell copper and it ain't easy to get a permit. maybe they should do the same for cats.
I don’t like the idea of needing scrapping permits, but creating one to sell cats would have the same result, just sell the stolen ones to someone with a permit. All it does is create an extra step right?
@@thubprint like I said in the county I live in it is not easy to get a permit to sell certain metals.
Scrap dealers should be prohibited from buying these things unless they have documentation showing they are legit - too many getting stolen right now.
That's what keeps them in business brings value up and brings demand up I'm sure they won't unless lawfully enforced

Your degree is in chemistry, I presume?

@@americanadreaming how’s that? These items need recycled for their precious metals , they are taking them buying them from auto shops , your ignorant , maybe u need to better inform yourself before commenting. You think recycling is a problem lol , gtfoh!!
@@gemnilvr exactly. A few years back someone offered me $50 for the cat on a car I was scrapping. I'd assume that's what most of the honest people do. I just wonder where they're selling these at.
@@MatthewSomethingOrOther yeah that’s what u do or u go to dif mechanic or muffler shops and you can wait til you have 500 pieces or more and sell them to a company that recycles them , or there are local places that will pay cash for them and then they do the same thing im assuming once they get the recommended amount to send for payment !
@Itskiury you can sell online to companies in large quantities, just search online , do you have repair shop? You may need verification of where they came from since there are so many that are stealing them
Still looking to sell them? I buy them let me know
So, when my cat was stolen for the 5th time after multiple countermeasures some asshat is likely using an app to get the best deal on his stolen items? Nice to know
Used OEM 04-09 Prius cats go for $1400+ on Ebay! Crazy!
Makes me wonder what they’re worth after refining the metals out!
$150-200 at the most , idk where ur looking lol
@@gemnilvr check again guy....
Bad info for the ones wanting to start the car everyday with the surprise of it being gone
"The scale of your operation" AKA your theft ring. A how-to on unloading stolen cats. LOL
Yeah I was gonna say, talking about the scale of an operation like that is obviously about a ring. Maybe leave out the business economic strategy information.
My 01 yukon w/155k is sitting till I fix the transfer case and water pump, need $ so gonna scrap the cat
??How much $$$ should i expect to get for my 2001 PRIUS cat??... I was told its one of the most valuable modern ones with 2 cats in tandem...and Toyota wants 3Grand new for one...
Should see$1900
@@zelmo99 1900.00 from a scrapyard?...from who is going to pay that?...its used of course (50k mi on it)...and why so much?
Hey thanks! !
@@madmax8620 The precious metals are HEAVY in this cat....call 763-755-7534 Adolph's tomorrow...yesterday they gave me $1275 for Prius Gen 2 and $1100 for a set of GM 6.0 liter cats from a 2000 model year truck
That is because the rhodium alone is going for $20,000 an oz
The platinum is around $1200 or so and the other precious metal that starts with a P is going for more then an oz of gold.
So I don't know how many cats it would take to get an oz of each but if you know what you are doing and know how to melt them down, you would be rich pretty quick.
Rhodium prices continue to blast away and are, as of this update, at $18,000 an ounce; price-per-gram being around $714 ..Average cat is 4 grams Rhodium. 2001 Prius is 11 grams so $714 per gram= $7714.00 just in Rhodium but now you got to find a buyer
I cut out my own converter. Straight piped it with a "turbo" muffler. Runs great. Been doing it to all my cars for years now.
Well you don’t need me bleating about the environmental effects, but it sure prevents it from getting stolen!
Hi how is the noise factor with this?
@@dagney2213 I use a Thrush brand muffler called the "Hush Thrush". Looks stock, sounds stock, flows great.
@@dagill58 You don't happen to be in Tampa are are you? lol?
You apparently aren't in a state that SMOGS, or you wouldn't be driving without a cat.
Honestly nothing sounds better than a good set of straight pipes, from the '50s and '60s, but even then the police knew by the sound if your pipes were legal or not. You got a fix-it- ticket, and you had to take in the receipts for the legal upgrade. There are mufflers that people run all the time, but if you want to know the truth a lot of them are "for off road use only". My favs., and the only mufflers I run are the Golden Turbos. They sound best when they're hot. They might be too loud for some ears, but as I tell those people; " hey! If you don like the sound, then cut off your ears!"😜
LET ME KNOW IF U HAVE A LOAD OF CATALYTIC CONVERTERS I WILL BUY THEM FOR THE BEST PRICE OUT THERE LET ME KNOW WHAT U GOT
None of what you said it nearly as valid anymore. Market dropped by more than half now. Even 2 months ago when you made this comment market was MUCH worse.
You're spreading false information. Those elements are like 700$ now lol
Hi There, any idea how much a Dodge Avenger catalytic convertor is worth(scrap)?
@@JRenee-Sings research more more
I hope near the 700 max mark I read above your comment
Where did you sell them? Now that everyone is stealing them the price sky rocketed or some jump yards or pick u part type places won’t even sell them anymore. You can take anything you can get off from the car or truck except for the cat. here in ca.
WOW NO WNDOR. THEY STOUL MY HANAS. CONBOTORS .
Yeah criminals steal from where i live. They cut the converter from all the cars already. Its so bad no one parks their car nomore we have to park our car far away.
Criminals don't care, they're worth a lot of money and they're easy to sell.
That’s brutal. It’s gotten really bad recently.
So you do realize with your informative video you’re encouraging these thieves to steal more catalytic converters off cars .
It’s called KARMA & she’s got your name . He who steals always gets there’s in they end & not realize it .
Maybe I own a catalytic refinery.. maybe I WANTED them to get stolen! It was me all along!!! 😈
@@thubprint haha
All knowledge can be used for GOOD or EVIL! haha no use to hide it. I am here to try to get as much as i can out of mine after the thieves cut it 3/4 the way out. Damaged both 02 sensors and left it hanging there as they must have been scared off. So however I can make the most to pay for welding a straight pipe in there and to make up for a never ending engine light and lost money on vehicle resale
Nice of someone like you helping Thieves earn an honest living selling stolen Cats. And leaving hard working citizens high and dry with a $1500 repair bill.
I was just about to type that.!!
@@lawnside82 I think a lot of us who are looking for ways to protect their cats have come across this vid and thought the same thing.
You think cat theft is a problem... Well so is censorship including censorship of information. I don't get how some of you people that might have or may not have been a victim can cry and whine about this type of information (in my opinion it does help serve as a guild to these dirt-bag thieves) that's put out there. Yes it sucks, yes, it's expensive, and I can go on and on. Either way, it's going to happen it's your job to read and learn ways to combat this violating crime. Whether or not you agree with the content, we are lucky we have the right to even post such information. We're at a time where our rights are being stripped right from underneath our feet, and our freedom is in jeopardy now more than ever. I for one welcome information like this. It's a double edge sword for sure but it usually also explains more about how to defend against crimes too.
Hey man GREAT CONTENT!! Two thumbs up. From the info to the presentation.

@@brad4581 Do you see the irony of defending free speech by criticizing others for their free speech? As far as I can tell no censorship occurred here either.
@@VoidR Go and reread what I wrote. If my saying something about crying is criticizing, we were raised differently. To add, I never said there was censorship going on, but that this is how things usually start getting censored.

Your be able to search how much your cat is worth with this app :D Oh....can't find in the data base >.> worthless.
Such a font of useful information! The tweakers of rural Iowa thank you.
i gut my cats and weld them back in, they look like cats but are empty and worth maybe 1 cent in scrap value. if the electric company can chip and burn tires for fuel then so can i. if people can dig a hole and push their old house into it and burn the house then i can tear the house down and burn it in my outside wood boiler to get hot water and heat, and create electricity with the TEG's i have connected. my neighbors have burned 3 houses recently while my old house provided free heat and hot water for 4 years. i polluted the air no greater than each individual neighbor. if they complain ill deal with them!
