My key take away is that critical thinking is not just based off of knowledge. It is based off of recalling that knowledge and applying it to different situations. I often second guess myself and I am working to improve on my decision making. This video was extremely helpful for me. Thank you for posting it!!
Your content is on a higher level of thinking; it’s beyond my ability to describe it. It is structured and well-articulated, yet you can break it down so easily. The ability to articulate out loud is so important. Something I’m working on. Ive never been good at it. Anything that comes out of my mouth is either too passive that it is disregarded, or too aggressive, that it always leaves me asking myself…did I say something wrong?? Your content today will help me straighten out all of the mixed thoughts and self-judgements I have about myself. THANK YOU!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Carney, I appreciate it and you. I'm grateful to hear that my content is helpful for you, and may it continue to inspire, inform, and impact! Best wishes to you!
@@drgracelee Thank you!! Your response means so much. I am at the beginning of my career, even though I’m middle-aged. Spent the last 12 years raising a family of four kids. I only had 2 options at the time - raise a family and set my career aside OR have a career but no family. I chose to have a family. Now, I can begin to work, but times are different. There is plenty of social media - some good and some bad. Your channel is one of the positives of social media. When I graduated from college with my BA, access to information was limited and scarce. Only available to those who had well-established families and were well-connected. I had neither. I’m a first-generation college graduate and the first to graduate in my family. Both of my parents received very little education. In fact, my mother had no elementary education and began adult school as an adult with 8 kids. I find your content refreshing and extremely relevant. It challenges the ways of how I grew up and what I was taught. I find that my thoughts align with yours, but I don’t have the words, vocabulary nor expressions to articulate my experiences and how I feel on the inside. And you’re able to do that very simply and effectively. When you say it, I ‘get it.’ Plenty of what you say resonates with me. I THANK YOU for your gift and talent and your generosity in sharing it with the world. I feel that I am armed with better tools and shields to begin my career vs. when I first started but had to let go. Maybe it was meant to be this way for me - so that someone like you could come along in my life and effectively empower me to make better choices and avoid lots of mistakes that I would have made. I look forward to your videos (in the mean time) and perhaps one day, be in that position to take part in your master classes!
First of all, thank you kindly Dr. Grace for taking the time and effort to share this quality content. In my experience, I've always jumped from gathered information (which I assumed I crystallized/understood) to articulation. Most of the time, I'd realize upon articulation, a lag in knowledge. I always thought it was something off with my assimilation-- but now i know that understanding, critical evaluation, application are also necessary steps for this process. I truly believe that once I'm able to articulate effectively, there's an infinitely greater chance of integrating to my cognitive schema(s) --thus causing a change in future actions. Thank you so much for this.
I've found that writing down each part of the process, during any critical thinking inquiry, does at least two things: (1) Helps one see inconsistencies and gaps in pondering the given subject, which leads to written revisions; (2) exposes one's critical-thinking process to others, who also may catch some problems -- or perhaps even reinforce one's process on the subject if well done.
I had just got accross over your video presentation of critical thinking skills and surely enriched my understanding about it. To do it deliberately to articulate with depth of knowldge in order to achieve the desired outcome. God bless you always Dr. Grace Lee.
Dr Lee, your video touches on the framework of the many important decisions made by us on a daily basis. I thank you for your guidance through this presented video. I list down the phases you have stated in your video for reference: 1) Gathering Knowledge 2) Evaluation 3) Application 4) Articulation 5) Decide what to believe or do However, through my curious mind with the utmost respect, should step 5 be actually step 3 instead? How can one wholeheartedly enter the state of "Application" without truly completing the phase of "Decide what to believe or do"? In other words, how to be unconvinced but yet to carry out what is thought to be the best? Also, "Articulation" from my understanding is to bring your concepts and understanding to convince others, why is the phase of "Decide what to believe or do" only after the communication to others? How can one be undecided, yet convince others? Maybe I am assuming that the skills as stated should be applied in the order of ascending numbers. Looking forward to any response at all :)
Articulating what we understood from the information we have gathered is something very important. Doing that well would make our life easy in achieving what we wanted to do... Liked the way the topic is structured. Easy to understand..
Dr. Lee thank you for uploading another awesome video 👍👍👍.... I acquired another information and gained precious knowledge from you... Three Form of Non-Critical Information 1. Habitual thinking - base on past practices 2. Brainstorming - seeing whatever comes to mind without evaluation 3. Emotive thinking - respond to the emotion arises instead of the content that was said Five Key Skills of Critical Thinking 1. Gathering information 2. Evaluation 3. Application 4. Articulation 5. Decision
I think point number one has been a struggle for me others I think comes at ease . Thank you I’m blessed to have you. God bless you Dr. Grace you are a blessing to usv
Thank you very much for sharing with us the critical thinking skills. I wish to show my son how to think critically. Hopefully, someday in the future, he can be a critical thinker and articulate as clearly as you do.
Step 5 decide to believe or do is my key takeaway. When you act on what you have learned becomes your own experience. when you reflect on your experience, you obtain deeper insights and your thinking becomes more refined. Critical thinking is a key to effective communication. Thank you Dr. Grace for your valuable advice!
Thank you Dr. Grace for an elaborate video clip on non-critical and critical thinking. You brought out complex subjects in a simple way and easy for learners to understand and articulate. My takeaway is the 4th and 5th steps of critical thinking; articulation of the ideas, knowledge and deciding what to believe or do.
Very insightful. I never knew we could put structure into critical thinking. Thanks very much. I'm going to share this with my team and assist them in their leadership journey.
For the sake of challenging myself to look beyond what you have said in the video let's explore my thoughts. For one i think that this video was well created, curated and articulated. I think that it acts as a starting point for improving critical thinking. Ultimately application of these skills/tips you have provided is crucial. I think for me the challenge is the practical application of this and how it can vary. As opposed to strictly applying the things you have stated (even though it doesn't have to be 'strict' per say) i feel concerned about my ability to fully flesh out the paramount details in an area of study. I am recognizing that I spend more time thinking about what I'm not doing than the things that I should be doing, and i hope that learning about critical thinking will help me in transitioning from thinking about doing, to actually doing, but i think perhaps as a way to enhance the learning/takeaways in this video, offering a space or some time to really try to introspect as a form of practical application during your video may support in this journey to improved critical thinking, or maybe some activity of sorts, as opposed to examples (essentially you can take us viewers from the 'what' to the 'how', but this how can be formed/established in our own individual ways). I will continue to reflect on this video as I embark on my journey to learning about critical thinking, but regardless, thank you for creating and sharing this. very much appreciated.
I considered myself a critical thinker but my takeaway is that I can see in myself a lot of traits from Emotional thinking which is not so critical. Thank you! awareness and growth Is the key I'll reflect more on Evaluation step :)
Thanks so much, Dr. Grace Lee..my action take-off point is to apply my content knowledge. I am very inspired by honesty and passionate presentation.l want you to be my mentor.
Hi, Elicia. Welcome to my channel! Absolutely, the key is to apply your knowledge. If you're serious about having me as your mentor, before I accept new mentees, simply submit your application for a Discovery Call with my team here: careerrevisionist.com/apply We take these applications very seriously, as we use them to determine who we accept into my program. I hope to see you on the inside!
Hi,dr grace . I was puzzled about critical thinking ,now I can say that I understand critical thinking better after having watched this informative video . #ThatsMyTakeAway
Great video! Some time ago it occurred to me that I might benefit from being "critical" about my own conclusions. It turned out to be a very good place to start! Lol!
your video is really inspired, organized ideas flow smoothly. but i have a question: what's the difference between design thinking and critical thinking??? are they overlapped??
I hope to apply the knowledge I learned to be able to articulate them effectively which may is an aspect of the critical thinking I need to hone and be more deliberate to acquire and develop.
Hello Mam, The mastery class which you are talking about in this video, that is payable or free b'coz i am a student and if its free or kind of free than only i can go for it. Thank you
When you look at the essence of every decision, whether or not it was the "correct" one depends on who you ask. In decision-making, there is no universal or unanimous correctness. Hence aiming for the "right decision" can be frustrating and elusive. What you can do is understand the values of those you are working with in your corporate setting.
