In Many ways This is the Most Stunning Performance I have Ever Seen Todd Rundgren do, It has everything you would see in an Opera or Musical. Truly Awesome touching every Heart string
ETHEL - you bring the best of TODD here in a soulful rendition of Pretending to Care "Suspended by the finest thread No one could ever see And when there's breathing in your ear"
It gives me goose bumps hearing this. Todd is so wonderful in person, no better live. No auto-tune necessary. This song sings my life. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video.
@@TedRoodmortgageguy I was told it's about his ex Bebe Buell. I have searched all over for confirmation without luck. I believe it could be, as his heart was truly broken.
Jennifer Warren does does a beautiful cover of this on her album "The Hunter " he loves her and Laura Niro , he's a sucker for a girl and her piano as he has said .....
Kind of a shame that the ensemble didn't express a fraction of the amount of dynamic range that Todd did with his voice in the original. They seem to be kind of static at the same volume the whole time, which really takes away from the development of the song.
kim h Sure he arranged the parts just fine, but he's not in control of their dynamics. That's all in the expression of the musician. Bach may have written a great piece of music, but when performed without dynamic range, in a wooden, robotic manner, it loses its impact. The original version has a huge dynamic range, where the loudness of Todd's singing as well as the volume changes that he mixed it at, is an essential part of the movement and the emotion. For the most obvious example, just take the part starting at around 5:50. In the original version, when he goes into that climax, it's HUGE. The backing vocals that he did would soar into the sky without actually changing much of the tonal content. It's all in the dynamics. Just go and compare. A good ensemble or orchestra can interpret this well, because their instruments have amazing potential for dynamic range as well. It's what makes them sound alive. These guys just didn't have it. They just became a static background sound, and even made the material sound repetitive by their uninspired phrasing.

Todd gets better with age. His orchestral performances have brought beauty to my heart and tears of unspeakable emotion to my eyes.
Brings me to tears every time.
One of Todd's most beautiful ballads, beautifully arranged.

Such a tragically sad song, performed in truly amazing fashion. Wonder what Todd's dad (presumably) thought when he heard this?
It was about his dad???
Yes, believe it is.

You can’t bring yourself to say
Can anyone tell me what the music is at the end please?

Have to disagree strongly, Ms Warner massacres one of Todd's masterpieces on that album. She shows little mercy to The Waterboys either!
