- Todd Rundgren talks about and plays his music in this sneak peak at his October 31, 2010 recital at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Todd was in residence at IU for two weeks as the "Class of 1963 Wells Scholars Professor."
Todd Rundgren is too good for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Still he deserved a much larger relationship with the public.
My favorite song ever!! Love you, Todd! Good job!❤️💕❤️
The R&R Hall of Fame has become a joke.
Plus, he’s a great music teacher
U got that right
Todd Rundgren is one of the most talented singer/musicians in American rock & roll history…this track was one his best.
The more I know about Todd the more i admire him a self taught musician and producer a true natural talent
@Bryn Gabriel AMEN BABY
@@denisehood4376 not only that he raised Liv Tyler while her dad ignored her. that's right Steven Tyler's ex was Todd's love and he raised liv while Steven was on a drunken drug addled run.
A true dyed in the wool musical genius in the flesh ladies and gentlemen. I present to you the pride of Philly Mr.Todd Rundgren
one of the greatest songs ever written.
SERIOUSLY THAT'S AN UNDERSTATEMENT 😮I FIRST HEARD IT WHEN HE SANG IT AT THE AGORA BALL ROOM ROOM BACK IN 1974 IN CLEVELAND ROCKS AND ROLLS OHIO 23 YEARS LATER WHEN MY FATHER PASSED AWAY IN SEPTEMBER OF 1997 I SANG IT AT HIS FUNERAL SERVICE AND WHEN I DESIGNED THE HUGE 1 OF A KIND HEADSTONE FOR MY PARENTS GRAVE THAT THE MONUMENT COMPANY USED FOR THEIR MAGAZINE AND TELEVISION ADVERTISING I WAS SO EXCITED AND PROUD BECAUSE AFTER WHERE IT READS MARRIED JUNE 30TH 1951 IT READS "A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER" BUT ACTUALLY THE DREAM GOES ON FOREVER AND ALL OF ETERNITY ❤ THANKS TO TWO GREAT HEARTS TODD'S AND MINE 😊 TODD IS THE SHITTS I LOVE YA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this was the song I danced to with my dad at my wedding.
I saw Tod in 1973 when I traveled 6 hours in a car full of kids to see him in another state and returned the same evening. He was dressed up like a fairy and went around sprinkling fairly dust on us all. It was great concert and a great time.
Then 5 or 6 years ago he came through town and played at a well known local ballroom. I was fortunate enough to get a table directly in front of his piano.Half way through one of his songs he got stuck and couldn't find the right chord. He looked up at me and said "What chord is it?" I thought about it and said "try going down a 4th". It worked. Good thing.
My favorite part of this show was when he picked up a ukulele, walked up to the vocal mic, and sang "I just wanna bang on the drum all day." It had a hawaiian tempo that made me think of him slowing down from playing a giant drum set in his youth to maybe tapping out a rhythm on a set of bongos, as he swayed in a hammock under a palm tree by the beach.
He is taking me into my next phase of life with such ease and joy. Once again, he makes it seem so simple! I am so glad he is still with us. Aren't you?
micah mcdaniel Wow, and Wow.. Awesome "story".. I have been a Todd fan since Utopia days, late '80's..😊😊😊 At the time I had no idea, the "fever"lol.. I would be afflicted of.. Todd! Thankful to have shook his hand, had front row seat to his show in the 90's, at the Park West, Chicago. Stories, and appreciation can go on.. All the best!
I saw his "Back to the Bars" tour at The Park West in the late 70s. WXRT 93.1FM live broadcasted one of the two shows. I'd bet if looked around enough I'd find the cassettes that were done on some audiophile machine at the family's house that night. Might not sound too good this old, though. They were both slamming shows, on tape, and in the club.
Fabulous! Thanks for sharing. I saw him on the RA tour in the mid to late 70’s at the old Ellis auditirium in Memphis. One of my top five concerts, and I attended a bunch back in those days. Check him out on the Live from Daryl’s House episode if you’ve not seen it, although I suspect you have.
Just met Todd last week at a show. Exceptional artist and human being.
That voice lives on forever. Really, he has a unique voice there.
My fiancé Matt died in 1992. This song we loved together ❤️ Since his death, it’s taken on a whole new meaning.
I'm so sorry... cameron white.
I am so sorry to hear about that. 😥
Condolences. Wishing peace to all who love him when the pain of loss strikes.
love goes on forever. hope you are well and your dreams continue.
This song still gives me chills, decades after I first heard it.
Those students probably dont even know how lucky they were!!
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. When I refect on the friends and lovers who are no longer here I remember this song and comfort myself that one day I will join them in their dream.
@Jennifer Puhl So sorry for your loss Jennifer and hope you will meet her again someday! May she rest in peace.
@Jennifer Puhl God bless you, and "Sweet Memories " to you of your beloved daughter.
I have a son, 22yrs old.( not a Todd fan, took him to his first TR showlast summer) He is more of a jazz fan..
My sincere point , is to send love, and peace somehow to you. 🙏🦋💕
When that song came out...around 1974, I was a young sergeant stationed at Ft Monroe Va...now I am an old soldier fading away...
Thank you, for your service
...but a dream goes on forever.
What a great memory you have in this song. Music is magical.
Thank you so much for your service. It’s people like you who will never fade away!😊
Thank you for your service. Remember, age is only a number.
Aloha Todd, as a one time neighbor in Princeville, I will always remember the days listening to you giving piano instructions to the kids; sadly, it stopped when someone complained of the 'noise'. Music is not 'noise', and the children are our future. Malama nui.
"A Dream Goes On Forever"
A million old soldiers will fade away
But a dream goes on forever
I'm left standing here, Ive got nothing to say
All is silent within my dream
A thousand true loves will live and die
But a dream goes on forever
The days and the years all go streaking by
But the time is stopped within my dream
We all have our everyday hopes and fears
And you'll find no exception in me
But that doesn't get me through a sea of tears
Over life's biggest tragedy
You're so long ago and so far away
But a dream goes on forever
I guess I believe that I'll see you one day
For without it there is no dream
You're so far away and so long ago
But my dream lives on forever
How much I love you you'll never know
'Till you join me within my dream
How much I love you you'll never know
'Till you join me within my dream
So true Todd, so true💐
Thank you is not enough to express this deep appreciation
That wells up in my waking through the clouds and beyond-woah got carried awayMerci
Thank you for posting the lyrics, Kevin.
Pure poetry. 🥰
Thank you so much for including the lyrics!
Us empaths love songs like this. I loved this song as a teen and still have in my playlist❤️ And his voice is still awesome!
Dennis, does he still live there? I was there last week...wish I knew then, if so!
Totally!! Heard the first note and the tears just start falling😭😭😭
What a musician and what a guy...I just love him and love his music for ever and ever...
Something/anything... 'nuff said..
I played this record over & over so many times back in the 70s….it’s a fabulous song…& one of my all time favorites. I love Todd 💚
His music always rolls right through my heart, in just the opening chords. I’m so thankful I grew up during his era.
Me as well. I saw him about 8 years ago and he played a song I had forgotten. I played it so many times the other night, that it was on my mind when I awoke. the song was "Fade Away". Check it out.. I'm 71 . lol
Oh Todd, you are a soundtrack to my life & I still cry to this song, guess I always will! Beautiful rendition, with the rawness I love about live performance, bless you bro xxx
I got to experience Todd Rundgren live in concert only once in my life. This was almost 39 years ago and it was freaking amazing. I have been a fan of his since he was in The Nazz. He is an incredible musician and songwriter. Rock on Todd!
I've been to about 4 shows and just bought tickets for a 5th in May.
God has it really been that long? Wait, Winterland 1973, its been longer than 39 years. Imagine that.
I was fortunate enough to see Utopia 8 times between 1980 and 1985.
@@denisehood4376 I know. Us baby boomers are getting old. It's weird looking back at the way we were and then seeing kids today, totally different! Watching people we grew up with pass. I guess we are all just living on borrowed time. It goes so fast.
The best. This is the music of my life since 1976...still does it for me. Todd!!
His voice has just gotten more beautiful with time!
The memories. Made me cry, in a good way.
I love this song so much! Todd Rundgren is amazing…and I love that he gives a shout out to Burt Bachrach. So cool!
todd HOF long overdue....a real genius...tks for the great music over the years!!!
He has stated several times that he has no interest. I consider that, most admirable 👏👌💕🎶
God he is still so amazing my goodness! Put this man in the ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME!!!! I’m 36 years old but grew up listening to this and it brings back so many memories ❤️❤️❤️ made me cry a little 😭
So long ago, so far away, still it lives on in me. I love this man
Have loved Todd since I first heard him on his album “ Todd.” He’s absolutely brilliant. Much under appreciated I think.
i LOVE this song-and this guy's songwriting! VERY underrated musician!
Todd's timeless voice to go with all those 7s just makes my day so much brighter.
How much I loved you, you'll never know.
I guess I believe that I'll see you one day, for without it there is no dream. 💖
Love this song. What a brilliant musician.
One of my favorites from my high school years. This convinces me that Todd truly loves music for itself.
The chord master Dr Rundgren! Touching songs come from a sensitive soul with a creative temperament. I remember when I was only 5 years old hearing “ Hello It’s Me” and I still remember the turn of events that day. My brother’s friend Kevin was trapped in a hole he dug out of the side of a hill in Northern CA he meant for a small cave which collapsed. He couldn’t breathe and the paramedics came and rescued him. That song is forever printed indelibly in my mind but, the beauty of the song and chords over time has made that day’s events fade. Dream Goes On Forever is another timeless tune. Thanks, Todd.
Yeah thats wild..I was 13...who knew..young kids loved tod Rundgren earlyvin the time of his production
Goes to show ya...we're born smart and then we get stupid later.!
I just found this song and I love it! I'm learning to play it and I'm making the same mistakes that he is, lol. I love this video. I fell in love with the Major 7 chords too when I first started messing around with the piano. My sister passed 3 years ago and I just want to play this song on repeat right now.
I’m dyslexic and forgotten part of my recital and just made it up at the age of 10 and music is key for the lifetime vibration it gives me and sharing stories is a key. I understand how humble in such a different way which makes people unique. Maybe a dream to kick back and chat. The sky is bright but the ocean is worth hearing.
I was lucky enough to See Todd in Victoria, London around 1978. Loved him before then and even now refer back to him for song ideas. He strikes me as a wonderful human being.
Hey, I was at that show. Todd was in his Egyptian phase, first of many times I've seen him, always excellent.
He is an absolutely inspiring musician, still has an amazing voice too...wow......
Absolute genius. One of my favorite writers of music and lyrics of all time. And this was one of my favorites.
I feel Todd’s joy in producing music. He loves sharing! He is so ahead of his time!
Oh my heavens...what a treat and pleasure to hear my favorite musical artist growing up in the 70's. I was so fortunate to be a babe in the woods when his music came out (only 14). How many wonderful memories I have listening to Todd with my friends. For those of you who didn't grow up during this amazing time of musical history, you are listening to one of the greats....
Even geniuses forget chords. Great song.
It only took me 12 years to see my most favorite (Todd) I've bought tickets everytime he is near by, however, I got in car acciedent on way, needed surgery the, the next time, death in family, back surgery......etc,...........I finally got to see Todd on New Years in Ventura. I threw up the drive down from Santa Barbara, only because I didn't think I would make for some reason.....but I did!!!!!
his voice is amazing.
Todd is so gifted and really down to earth! I have held him in high esteem for his musical talant and great voice!
Thanks Todd!
Poet and musical genius
This song lives in my heart since the day I first heard it. Which was when Phil the singing minstrel put TODD fresh off the press and on to the turntable.
I miss you Phil, along with your two sons, Cynthia, and a score of grandkids.
That song gave me more understanding of music theory. Thanks Todd. 45 years of piano has been a constant learning experience for me.
Have loved this song for most of my life.
i have loved Todd forever.. such a great musician.. i
I'd always go see him whenever he played in Austin (73-85). If I didn't have a date I'd go by myself! I've followed his musical career from the beginning, and I have to say, I enjoy him just as much now as I did decades ago!
Loved to hear his reference to Burt Bacharach, spotted this influence decades ago.
As musicians and composers we're quite aware of the influences that crossed out paths. Essentially trying to emulate our heroes.
ELP was masterful at grabbing my attention, hence spent much time perfecting my arpeggios. Later along came Ludwig, the master craftsman, installing every drop of passion into a piece of music.
Thank you to both of you, obviously realize you're not on terra firma atm, possibly we shall meet again.
If you really want to be blown away get Todd's 1990 concert DVD "Live in Japan." A completely outstanding show from start to finish, this concert is just one jaw-dropping performance after another.
nice, like havin todd in your living room- like the music lesson....
Have always loved his voice. So unique and pleasing to the ear.
Brilliant composition by a brilliant composer
oh just love him( always have) and this song. So inspiring so much love. And some beautiful man wrote all the words out for me. when you know the truth you can inspire the world.
Same here, You'll never know how much I love you. For without it there is no dream Doll
Wow he still sounds great!!! Such a natural talent. Just awsome!! thanks Todd for the memories!
A complete package of talent , we may never again see this again in our rotten music industry
That was great! Great insight to a brilliant musician and songwriter! One of my favorites! Open and honest!
Love this!!! So talented ❤️❤️
Wow...I have ALWAYS loved this man & seeing his interaction with the students is just heartwarming!!!! Thanks for posting this!!!!
What a wonderful look into the composition of a truly great song.
This album Played endlessly in my neighborhood when i was a kid. Today i still remember like it was yesterday Seeing my sisters and their friends Dancing with each other pretending to be Married, Happiest day's of my life....
Thanks for all your sacrifices in your own life while helping the little one’s. Thanks for everything
OMG- thanks SO MUCH for sharing this. Absolutely Classic footage... something we would have never seen except for YOU!!
So lovely every time I hear this gem
Such talent that man
Todd is just a joy!
WOW! This is Priceless ! I've been searching around here for Todd and this is by far the Best, Tears are streaming down my cheeks.
Me too!!! 😭😭😭
Great, beautiful song! I love so many of TR’s songs, but I think my all-time favorite is Love is the Answer.🥰
A genius... no wonder CREEM asked "Todd the God?" back in the day... He knows so well and explains so simply the music theory behind this gorgeous composition... and sings it as well at 62 as he did at 25, which is like Jay Black singing "Cara Mia" now the way he did in 1963! Amazing as always, sir...
Bout time! Congrats to Todd for finally being inducting RRHOF 2021, For those who don't know Jacobs School of Music is One of the Orchestral & Jazz Mecca's
He was a genius 👏 true legend 🙌 really dig his voice and we bought all his records in the 70s
Writer producer touring artist of 45 years His body of work speaks for its self but I will speak for my friend who needs to be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
Thank you, Todd, you are one of my favorite people in the world. All best, author Michael An'gileo
Priceless.
Finally saw him about 10 years ago. was on my "Bucket list."
What a musical treasure you are Todd
absolutely amazing musician. love this and the record cut as well.
I miss these times and these songs
Man, he still got his full voice. First, when you hear him speak, you wonder how he should get those high notes. But then, as he starts singing... WOW!
Wow is right!
You make no sense
"how he should get"
Try: "how he COULD hit"
He is BLESSED. A m a n SENT from GOD HIMSELF. WOW

I fell in love with him when I was in 8th grade watching him in concert on the t.v. in a basement of Cleveland, Ohio. I am 59 years old now and am still in love with this music man. 🎶
Wholly crap!! Crying😭😫😭😫
What a voice❤️❤️❤️
トッド・ラングレンは専らのレコーディングアーティストと思っていたが、このようなライブでも聞き入ってしまう声量と歌の上手さにちょっと驚いた。
The Experiences these students received is monumental. Kudos to Todd for taking the time and GIVING OF HIMSELF to these eager and budding, newest generation, music seekers. This effort will blossom to many... Thanks Todd for spreading the word and LOVE
Wake up! You're listening to a REAL musician in every sense of the word. Other musicians say he is the one, even Paul McCartney said Todd is just unreal. Now, that is a compliment.
At the end, he is speaking in the PAST tense…….how much I LOVED you……so great.
Frigger makes me cry... thanks!
Beautiful ❤️
Just another tight, exquisite song by Runt.
Watch very very carefully Folks, genius at work. Beautiful song . I use the g word very very sparingly . With Todd it applies 100%
OK, that did it! Thx for this, quite special.
He is such an interesting person . . . I’ve always thought his voice was good, but it has developed into something even better!
A real treat to watch and listen to a music legend!
This is so beautiful on so many levels. Thank you, Todd.
How endearing to see this Rock God be human for a moment as he finds the chord ... long overdue for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
