as much as i have watched this show, i never noticed until watching this clip that betty white almost laughed out loud when sophia complained that her fart was brought to everyone's attention by rose. white had to stop herself real quick.
I love RUE. She is an incredible actress but I never got the casting. I always thought she was the least attractive of the 3 so it was so odd to me that they made her out to be this sexpot, like a Lonnie Anderson or Susan Sommers. It made no sense.
It's not the looks, it is the charm, confidence and flamboyance that makes her hot. She looks fine, there's nothing inherently ugly But yes I always found Suzanne Sommers repulsive, her teeth made me gross out

Initially Rue was called for the role of Rose and Betty White was going to be Blanche. When Rue did her casting the producers were not completely satisfied with the way Rue was portraying Rose, she admitted she did not like it and it would have been torture. Betty was very good playing either Blanche or Rose. The producers asked Rue to play Blanche just to see. She did an excellent job. She asked Betty if she would be ok with her taking Blanche's role and she said yes. Then the producers switched roles. After that, they asked Rue to contact Bea Arthur (as they were already friends) for Dorothy. And well, that is how all started. Betty and Rue tell this story in different interviews.
Have you seen pictures of Rue when she was younger? There’s a picture of her in this black dress and she has a cigarette in her hand and she’s smiling at the camera. She’s absolutely gorgeous, I mean I don’t know what the hell they were putting in the water for some of these actresses and actors back in the day but they were beautiful, not hot like todays celebrities, i’m talking beautiful.
