    I've been looking at this software and its just awesome! At last, one thing that people forget for realism is that you almost have to simulate the real thing, fluid dynamics does this perfectly!

    • @Taronites
      @Taronites  8 років тому +1

      +The Multichannel Thanks, Multi! Yeah, it's really most of all a feeling or sense it provides that we can relate to and modify intuitively. While Verve really doesn't physically simulate paint, the fluid dynamics have their own nature, which one grows to understand fairly quickly. But I keep experimenting, of course, trying to get more intricate simulations going, besides expanding its general functionality. Thanks again! :o)

    • @Saroyus
      @Saroyus 8 років тому

      No problem! I just downloaded it not long ago and obviously it will take a while to get used to, but I'm wondering. How do you get the leaves for the brush?

    • @Saroyus
      @Saroyus 8 років тому

      Lol, I just realised what I said sounded vague, I mean, what settings do you use to make the leaves that you do in a lot of these examples? Also, I've been drawing with the software, and it actually looks like a real life painting! I might end up trying to use this if I do a speedpaint. The only bad thing is that it seems to have a very limited amount of times when you can undo. But overall its great, and it doesnt seem to bother me.

    • @Taronites
      @Taronites  8 років тому

      +The Multichannel Yeah, presently it has one undo per layer. I've been holding a more complex undo system in hopes to find some way to measure the remaining graphics memory. Not sure, yet, when, but I will try to hook up more.
      In most examples I just used either brush#2 or #3 with a negative bias (That's the big, dark dial on the little brush panel, that also shows interactive brush orientation and says BIAS.). Next to it you find BRISTLE SIZE and BRISTLES underneath that. With those you get some more control, too. Then just stipple like with the corner of a round brush, similar to Bob Ross, you know.
      With the new versions you can go for different approaches, though, painting a few leafs as brush images and then use either brush#2, #3 or #10 to throw them onto the canvas in various ways. A new youtube clip is coming soon for that! ;o)
      In the meantime, I'm happy you're giving it a try! I'd love to see you do a speedpainting with it! 8D

    Nothing would make me happier than to use this program, but I am on a Mac, unfortunately. I know you are working on a port over to apple, and patiently await the arrival of Verve. This program looks so good Taron. You really have outdone yourself!

      Thanks, John! In the meantime, you should have a look at bootcamp, though!

    • @Melldorain
      @Melldorain 9 років тому

      John Kennedy I just tested it. It runs quite ok through Parallels Desktop. One important note though: I have a Wacom tablet, I needed to pipe it through Parallels Desktop's USB setup, to make sure I had pressure sensitivity and tilt available. The app can somewhat run though Wine emulation, but it's very limited in terms of pen support, and performance is sub-par, in a way that it takes away from the intuitive artistic flow of this amazing little application.

    Just wanted to say that this software is amazing. I'm in no way an artist, but I still enjoy it a lot and can spend hours in it. Almost like a meditation.

      Thank you very much, Jane, I'm deeply happy to read that! ♥

I'd love to welcome you on the forum, if you're not already there and I would enjoy to see some of your meditations! 8)

  • @pixtur
    @pixtur 9 років тому

    Super impressive. I played around with 0.99u33 the whole day and had a lot fun. But two things I can't figure out:
    1. How do you setup the fluid-simulation to get nice streaks like in 3:55?
    2. Is there a way to only use pen-tilt (instead of a combination of tile and stroke direction?) I would love to use pen7 for structures with hard edges like buildings and rocks, But through the stroke direction it's tilting randomly.

    • @Taronites
      @Taronites  9 років тому

      You should come to the forum for those discussions for sure! But quickly:
      1. The canvas texture is responsible for those "streaks". Increase the strength and size, set stretch to 0 and reduce the density to below 50% (for example, but anything goes). Once you push the fluids around, you'll see what will happen! 8)
      2. Not sure exactly what you're doing, but in the next version you have far more control over all of that. Random tilting is not part of any version, yet, so I really don't know what you're experiencing there?! :o\
      Thanks for giving it a go, for sure! I'd love to see your experiments!!! *forum, forum, forum (LOL)

    01:26 What is the brush setting? I love it!
    And how can I keep my settings? I can't figure out how to export a brush so I can use it again, and figuring out the settings I've got is a bit hard. I have a great brush going atm and I don't want to close the program in case I lose it... I just "happened upon it" :D
    Thanks for replying :)

    • @Taronites
      @Taronites  9 років тому

      AH, riteasrain, hehe, I like your name, haha! EH, first of all, all brush settings are saved with your project. BUT you can also save settings only, which contains the brushes as well. When you open the save requester, [s] or [Shift]+[s] or the mysterious button on top, you can pick the "format" down at the bottom of the file requester. There you have (*.vrv), (*.png), (*.jpg) and (*.vrs), which are Verve Settings. Choose settings and you'll save brushes and fluid settings and so on. Just not the layer settings. Pffff...all of this is going to change quite a bit in the upcoming version, though, but for the better, no worries! ;o)

    • @riteasrain
      @riteasrain 9 років тому +1

      Taron Thanks Taron. I noticed when I saved it said something about export, so thanks for explaining what the file extensions mean. Fantastic! I am getting some nice effects :)

    • @Taronites

      +skylar99 Thanks, Sky, the GUI is getting an overhaul already as many new features join into the mix, too. While you can still select brushes with the number keys (not numpad) or the tiny buttons on the brush section, this will all become more obvious eventually. Hello Taron! Loving all these videos, but quick question. It looks like you're using a mouse, but I can't seem to emulate your movement and fluidity. What is it that you do to work so fast and efficiently in your program?

    • @Taronites
      @Taronites  8 років тому

      +Flynchii Cerros Hi Flynchii, I'm using a Wacom Intuos3 tablet as input device. It would be impossible to paint that effortless with a mouse, I'm afraid. Whereby one should never say "impossible". On the forum there are a number of artists, who do stunning work with the mouse. Though, I'm sure it takes a bit longer. 8)

      Tahaha, thanks and hey, 574X! Well, it's not quite like watercolor, though you can achieve exciting effects of that nature, but it's both less and more as well. Maybe one day I'll hook up more elaborate solutions for greater realism of all such media. For now it's a celebration of art in a digital nature! :o) ...it's time I give music a little break again and return to Verve, right?! ☺

    • @Taronites
      @Taronites  6 років тому +1

      You can import jpg, png and paste from clipboard. Only trouble is that it can only end up 8bit, because of the bad import library I'm having to use. It most certainly is part of my plan to solve that as well, but in the meantime...that's all there is. 8[ ...THANKS, though, that you're using Verve in your workflow is really great to hear! 8)

      I found a workaround for my problem. I found that huge canvas sizes would result in black imports. But rescaling seemed to fix the problem. Importing into Photoshop from there alows me to rescale and add detail at a higher resolution.
      But I recently had Verve crash and now I can't seem to open the file that verve crashed on? Is it possible to restore the file? I believe the error said something about an access violation?
      Sorry, hate to bother you. Verve is awesome though.

When images get too big, it can happen that loading goes beyond the available Graphics Memory. This would cause an access violation. That is great news! I'll keep the dream alive to be able to take Verve anywhere with me! With the apple pencil, the iPad samples the position of the tip even more times per second than it does with a finger, allowing for smoother and more accurate strokes. I'm excited to try it. I'm hoping it could finally trump a Wacom cintiq, and be the portable art tablet people like me have been dreaming about for a long time.

    So someone asked me on the AMD forums to test this out with my RX Vega 64 LC. He wants to know what the max canvas size resolution is.
    So far I can set it to 5k (5120x2880) but the next increment up and I get an error "Reserve Access Violation". What I'm testing is if AMD's HBCC technology will allow us to work past what would otherwise by a Vram limitation by making the program think we have 20gb Vram (8GB GPU + giving it 12GB of my system memory, up to terabytes if one were to have that much RAM)

    • @Taronites
      @Taronites  5 років тому +1

      Ah, that's very interesting! I've had this mentioned along with NVidia's 2080, I think. Anyway, if I remember correctly, NVidia's 1080 ti already allowed up to 6k with Verve, which would likely not be the kind of increment you're talking about. However, I'm just amazed at what's possible these days, while I original hadn't intended for Verve to be some super high resolution paint app. Anyway, unless GL or the hardware prohibits it, Verve goes as high as it can, only letting GL do what it does. I don't do any fancy tiling of the canvas with the intent to reach higher resolutions. In other words, it's up to the cards and its memory management at this point. I can't even afford a 1080 ti right now or any system changes. I'm running NVidia's 970 GTX, which lets me do 3k x 3k without any problems whatsoever. But, again, I rarely paint at such resolutions, though, I probably should.
      Anyway, THANKS for the report/question! I'm very curious myself. 8)

      Via bootcamp you can run Verve just fine on a mac, but I will eventually look into compiling for mac, too. However, no, it doesn't "fry" any computers, hehe, unless their graphics card is defect, which seems to have been the case for one person, actually. Hi.
    I discovered Verve painter almost 1,5y ago (it was recommended to me) and I instantly fell in love with it. When I switched to Linux about a year ago one of first things I checked was if Verve works and sadly it didn't. I can run the program under wine but several dysfunctions make it impossible to paint. I then checked the forum and found the information that there's going to be a Linux version soon and since then I regularly check the download site with faster heartbeat every time :)
    Just to let you know, Taron, I love what you do. I feel it's amazing to live in this world with such beautiful, sharing people. And I hope to play with Verve once again one day. Cheers!

I know, it sounds silly, but I need another computer to approach this, but can't yet allow myself to go for it. The same goes for a mac version as well, which I'm also eager to compile. Lots of things I'll still have to get to, including a proper update of the GUI.
      Anyway, thank you very much for your encouraging kindness and patience. I'm not sure how feasible it would be for you to go for a dual boot with win7 or 8.1, but I can imagine it wouldn't be too bad to have that? My drives are too packed and I'm too scared to go for it myself. Probably silly of me.
      Well, I'll be thrilled to see you on the forum again, at the latest when I did finally do my Linux adventure. I hope, there are proper Wacom/tablet drivers for it then, too?!
      Cheers!

      Ah no, don't be sorry! Just wanted to let you know there are even more fans waiting for a possibility to paint in Verve. And it doesn't sound silly at all, I can't even afford Win atm, not to mention buying a new machine which I really need for drawing :) But I also stopped using Win for other reasons.
      Yes, there are drivers good enough I think (I'm a complete dummy when it comes to computers but I use tablet every day for drawing in Krita, so I guess Verve could work?).
      Thx for reply!

      What tablet are you using? I mean...do you have linux driving your tablet? Pretty high on my priorities is to really properly support mobile platforms...still have to deal with openGL ES, though. Lots to learn... 8}

      Oh, I meant drawing tablet, not mobile device. I use Wacom Intuos 4. It's great btw.

      Oooh, ah well, never mind...I should've understood. Duh! xP ...yep, that's very comforting. I hope, BlitzMax on Linux will have proper ties to those drivers. Otherwise there would be yet another thing I'd have to figure out.

    Hey, I cant get verve to open properly on Windows 10. It opens but the cursor is stuck in on spot. Am I doing something wrong?

    • @Taronites
      @Taronites  6 років тому

      First time I've heard that one?! O_o ...well, tell me some specs of your computer, so I can even begin to imagine the problem. I've had it run on windows 10 with just a cheap intel graphics card (much to my surprise) and it had no troubles.

    • @Gr33nDeman
      @Gr33nDeman 6 років тому

      Taron Well, I have a Wacom Mobile Studio Pro, runs Windows 10 Home edition I think, 8 gbs of ram and an nvidia display something I guess...Intel i5 processor. Im stumped, tried running on a lower compatability, but it didnt seem to work. HALP PLES!

    • @Taronites
      @Taronites  6 років тому

      Woooot?! This sounds like it should run beautifully on that one?! Hmmm. Stupid question, but have you updated to the latest windows release? I know, when I got my Cintiq Companion (wished I didn't), it had win8 on it and nothing would run properly until I updated it to 8.1. Then it all worked fairly well, considering the dreadful Intel HD4000 it has (why, oh, why). So, hmmm... I'm stumped myself. Well, always also make sure you run my latest version and try to join the forum for easier troubleshooting!

      Not sure, if you've discovered my synth, yet, haha. I do believe that art and music really share a channel and know that it's a real privilege to dare expand these impulses to programming as well. At the end it all is creation and at the very end it all belongs together, of course.
      I'm very happy you've found my stuff, though, and grateful for you letting me know about it, too! That's awesome! 8)

      @@Taronites Cool. Good to hear. Just found the software. You said something about transparency with PNG being redundant. Is there a way to export with transparency already? In particular with a dark background so it doesn't pick up that halo of the canvas?
      If so this will likely be my goto software to make isolations.

    • @Taronites
      @Taronites  5 років тому +1

      Woot.... no, not sure what the context was, but transparency is neve..hold on, that was about the final png export. There's also a component export, which preserves transparency, but it exports color and bump map separately for use in compositing or texturing, you know. However, all the image IO matters will get more options, especially the import. Things will happen! Anyway, check the documentation on the forum and don't hold back, if you have questions for the community forum!

      THANK YOU, that's very nice! 8) ...Verve is just a different approach from the ground up. A lot of work still and I still have to find a way to make it "more grateful", but keep at least some of my ideals. I'm keeping the faith in the artists and keep on developing. 8)
