Beer Can Chicken

- Beer Can Chicken is a BBQ Classic. It's a great method to obtain a super juicy smoked chicken. Plus it's fun to cook!
You want to start with a room temp beer (or even warm it). Otherwise putting a cold can of beer in the cavity of the chicken will cause the middle of the chicken to take forever to cook and potentially be unsafe.

I appreciate that you tell people "we're using our seasoning but you can use whatever you want". It shows this is actually supposed to be educational and not just promotional. Great stuff!
Yessir. Not trying to "push" anything. Thanks for stopping by!
@@markhoudlette5058 you ain’t kiddin! Honey Hog and Holy Gospel are staples in my cupboard now.
You can use something else buttt I'm not sure why you would lol.

@@MeatChurchBBQYes indeed. When you know you have a great production you don’t need to push anything
This is amazing recipe. I have a pit boss electric smoker. I used apple juice in the water pan. We placed fresh rosemary, parsley, garlic, and a green onion in the beer can. Season it with Meat Church Voodoo. Bast it with a herbal butter at half way and towards the end. Cooked it at 375 for an hour and half then reduced to 350 for about 20 mins as my roasted mix vegetables finished. We didn't use any BBQ sauce to hide the true smoke flavor. My better half states it is absolutely the best beer can chicken he has ever has eaten. Thank you for the recipe and guidence!!!!
Matt's videos have definitely helped me along my smoking/grilling journey. I was such a fan of the presentation from the videos that I started buying his rubs. My favorite is the hot honey for pulled pork and this gospel all purpose. I love to be able to support creators and his rubs have never let me down.
Just want to take a minute to Thank You Matt and Meat Church crew for such great products and for all the Help making us better Pitmaster’s
Just bought a pellet smoker for the first time, and a large part of why I felt comfortable making that investment into smoking my own meats has come from watching your videos. THANK YOU! I will absolutely shop from Meat Church just for saying thanks, if for no other reason.
Awesome!! I received my order of the Ocho.. Amazing spices. Doing some burgers tonight with The Holy Gospel.
We tried your beer can chicken it came out phenomenal. Thank you
I remember that cold front, it was brutal. I've never tried the butter or sauce steps before, I might give that a try next time.
I am trying this for the first time today, your results look amazing, I hope I can at least come close!!!
Awesome, thanks for the butter and bbq drizzle on top of the bird tips.
thanks for the quick walkthrough planing to make one on my new camp chef tomorrow :)
I just made one today and it was 🔥. Thanks for the tips! Love Meat Church!!!
I am making my second one.. my wide and daughter love my first beer can chicken
Man, that looks awesome! I’ve used beer, Dr Pepper, root beer and recently a cherry coke. The extra moisture really helps. Thanks for the great video..
Oh damn I bet that root beer was good, I inject my pork shoulders with cherry coke while smoking them!
I've watched a bunch of your videos and I'm just a beginner at smoking but I do make my own BBQ sauce with is a hit just trying to get it public going the laws to get it legal...your videos have helped me in so many ways to be confident and comfortable with smoking...
Thanks to Richard Rawlings for getting me started on your channel. Awesome info and new way to try to trick out my cooks.

Awesome video. Thank you
Hi from Costa Rica! definitely an excellent video, I will make this same chicken next weekend !
Did this using holy gospel seasoning, it was epic. All of my guests said it was the best chicken they had ever eaten. I had to agree 👍
Awesome!!

Thanks dude.
Looks amazing
Love it doing it for new years i got that gospel keep up the good work bro
Keep the videos coming Matt!
Just rolled two birds on the Traeger tonight! One in Holy Voodoo and one in Holy Gospel. Devoured both, but [photo finish] the Holy Voodoo was 💯 👌
Thanks Matt!!!
That looks spectacular!
I’m making one today. Thanks for the video
Looked great Matt - nice job!
Awesome. Thank-you
I appreciate Matt's G-Shock collection. God tier watch. One for every video.
I tried this recipe minus the bbq sauce and it was great
Like to fact that this recipe is kept simple. Plan to try one myself
You had me at Miller Lite. Less filling/ Taste great. I got a Traeger grill for Christmas and I’ve been following your channel ever since. Great videos.
Amazing!
Great post vid comments Matt. Big fan in Oregon.....keep it up!
Man I’m drooling!!! Nice cook!
That looks awesome!! Hope you survived the weather.
I just put my bird on the grill only to find out that my beer can cooking apparatus is too tall. Had to kind of squish the lid down on the chicken then proceeded to search the beercan chicken recipes on youtube where I found this one. Turns out I did a few things wrong including putting a cold beer can in the chicken and left the top of the can on. All I can do is hope for the best now! Great video and one of my favourite channels.
Nice video I love beer can chicken. Wish I had a shop like yours near me. Might be dangerous shopping. Take care
I made this last night and it was A M A Z I N G!
Subscribing! Would like to see another vid doing nearly the same thing but with brining recommendations first!
Trying this today for the first time!
A friend of mine made beer can chicken for me and that’s what got me interested in cooking bbq. Definitely my favorite way to cook a whole chicken.
Spatchcock and medium high smoke at 300 with whatever flavors you prefer.
Keep up the good work
Great video.
🔥🤘🏼🔥 On my list! Looks great!!
Thanks dude.
i found some beer can chicken rub spice at a dollar tree and its so good.. it has so many ingredients.. im too lazy to go look at it and type them all here but its a lot of the spices and herbs you would put on something.. ive never made beer can chicken but ive heard of it and i dont think i have room to shove a beer can in a whole chicken and those rotisserie chickens are so good and cheap i cant argue with that but i think i would love to make a beer can chicken if i could..
Look delicious 👍👌💯
Always did this in the oven. Always spatchcock on the smoker. I’ll try it out on the smoker!
I wish I could barbecue this looks really good. Right now I’m going through a hardship, I Can’t even afford Charcoal my man. Keep up the good work chicken looks great.
I got 2 ceramic chicken stands from your buddy Kosmo in Oklahoma been reading that the cans can put unwanted chemicals into the meat-love the video-definitely going to add stuff to the PBR now that I watched making 2 for meal prep for the week, maybe I’ll glaze one & leave one plain-can’t beat it 2 birds for less than $20 at Costco & I’ll have it for the week
How may I contact Kosmo to get those Ceramic Chickens stands please and thank you
dr. pittman needs to upload more often. can literally be a video on the toilet and i still would watch
LOL, deal!
The finished bird looks amazing! Just bought a pellet grill, I'm going to have to try this. And am stealing herbs in the can idea.
Good luck!
Welcome to the struggle of smoking in the north, but a little cold shouldn't stop anyone! Like we say around here, "it's not that cold, it's just the wind."
Making this today. It’s been awhile, but I do like beer can chicken.
Sam Jones BBQ on the Meat Church shelf! Awesome to see Eastern NC get some love.
Love Sam & Michael!
Good Stuff!
If you had to choose 1 seasoning for everything what one is your favorite mine is VUDU and the cow
Never use lite beer might as well use water yes I drink miller lite but do my beer can chicken with full flavor beer you can taste the difference happy cooking
Imma try it Saturday
I need to make a trip to Waxahachie!
Come see us!
Loving being part of the Meat Church congregation! Brisket, chili, ribs, this is my next one. Amen brothers and sisters! Quick question. When Matt gives temps, is there any consideration to what the temp is at the grate where the meat is? All grills are different and I feel like my overall grill thermometer can be pretty different than temp at the grate. Am I overthinking this? Thanks!
You are absolutely correct. You have yo measure the temps on both the breast AND the legs because the legs take longer to cook and they are usually about 10d lower thsn the breast.
Can't go wrong with beer can chicken!
Do you have any vids where you do a full on cleaning of your smoker? Would love to learn your method
does the seasoning inside the beer actually make it into the chicken? i have the same beer can holder, and i never thought about adding the herbs. thank you for another great video
The herbs adds that something special to your chicken
Even tho ur cooking that whole bird on a sheet pan in ur TRAEGAR; but can u do it on charcoal grill ( millscale )?? Gr8 video by the way
NICE
2:13 Hi Matt, could you substitute Holy Voodoo for the rub? Got that one for Xmas and have not tried it yet. Thanks.
I like the pan size with the grate on top. Where did you get it? What size is it?
Have you ever cooked on an Orion?? I am going to try this recipe on the Orion tomorrow
Gonna try this on my Weber kettle
I have the same beer can holder 👍
Room temperature 🍺 thanks for the tip
I know I’m late to this party, but I’m planning to cook a beer can chicken with hard cider and I have two questions:
1. Is there any benefit to brining a chicken cooked like this?
2. How do you “open” a beer can? Do you use a regular can opener or is there some other tool or technique to use?
Thanks in advance!
First and looks really good
Where do you get your black prep gloves?
COLD! You should try living in Scotland 😎
Academy sells the holders for one and two chickens.
Consider me inspired, thanks!
I cook beer can chicken all the time
Darker beer is best. And yes you do taste the beer. Try Yeungling Lager I promise you will taste the beer. With light beers you are correct you won't taste anything. I use olive oil, mustard and Frank's red hot as sticking agent.
We have 100 degree swings in weather from winter and summer, hard to adjust to either you just deal with it
I "PRAY" I get the chance to attend your church one day.
Lol
I tried my best. First, the chicken was very juicy. The skin was tough so I blame myself for not managing the fire properly on a dynaglo grill. Second, knowing fire management is my issue, for anyone trying to do beer butt chicken, trust this process. Meat Church is your answer!
Put a bit of salt on the skin next time to crispy it up.
Where did you get that basket/rack? Love your videos, recipes, and rubs.
Amazon
@@MeatChurchBBQ ok cool, pretty sure I found it, thanks
Where did you buy the pan used for the chicken?
What is the pot that you cook the sauce in. I just recentl saw you used it again in another cook.
Shout out From South Texas #Alice Come on :) Meat Church :)
Do you think that beer really does anything since it must get to about 202° to do anything since water boils at my altitude at 202°
Have you tried experimenting with injection? I’m thinking if you were to inject the chicken with beer, you’d get even more moisture and flavour into the bird. Or, you could spatchcock the chicken and place it a centimetre or two above a drip pan with beer in it. You’re more likely to get the pan to a temperature that will produce steam and more of the meat would come into contact with the steam than with a can stuffed into the bird.
What about those cuc`s off to the side? Some sort of MC cucumber salad we need to know about?
So I have to ask why you don't tear or crush the herbs. You could either get more flavor or use less if you do. Chicken looks great.
Can never gets above above bird temp. All in your head about making moist
I like to wet brine my poultry but do you think it would be too salty with added seasoning?
