    Do you travel with bar or liquid soap?

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  6 років тому +2

      True B V K! Easy to pick up soap along the way in urban destinations, but not always possible if you're doing some off-the-beaten-path travel!

    • @GlobalAdventurer
      @GlobalAdventurer 6 років тому +4

      I used to bring only liquid but now only bar soap. One for hair, one for clothes and one for shower. I need a specific type for my hair (color treated). 😁
      I collect bar soap from hotels too to wash my clothes, or when using public restrooms with no soap, but whenever I use them on my body my skin dries out. So, I just bring my own, and bar soap seems to last longer too.
      I wrap mine in baby wipes (not the cheaper ones or they will put fuzz on your soap) and store them in Ziploc bags.
      I was hoping this Matador soap holder had some kind of breathable flexible sponge too, because that's the one thing I don't have and sorely need when the soap constantly falls into the slippery sink. Just bought a 4 pack of bar soap sponges on Amazon just now.
      Thank you for this video!

      Good to hear from you Global Adventurer! Haven't seen you around in the comments in a bit. We always appreciate your packing consideration and well-thought-out solves.Really excellent tips here, and we'll be on the lookout for the breathable/flexible sponge case!

      ....just to add to my previous comment, I just received those soap sponges from Amazon. I think they will fit inside of those pouches or any other soap container since they can be trimmed. They aren't made of sponge material though, something else. So far, I like them very much. They're called S&T soap saver bundle.

    Love this soap bag. The soap drys out easily but its still waterproof. I’m not sure it’s necessary to make such a big deal out of being able to manually (with difficulty) unroll the roll over closure, Ive used it relentlessly and thats never happened. On a different tack I was looking for a waterproof container for my hearing aids whilst riding and couldn’t find anything more than ‘water resistant’ so I bought another for my hearing aids which as all deafys will know get moisture building up in them and need to air. This has been perfect. The hearing aids are protected from the rain but can still dry out. Pricey for what it is but worth it.

    I wish the tag is an area for labelling instead. It would be beneficial for someone like me who likes to bring shampoo, conditioner, shower, and lotion bar on the go.

    If the soap scent comes through, then I would buy soap with a fragrance that I love and put it in with my clothes for a perfuming effect.

    This is tempting--I love trying the latest and greatest. That said, I've used a Sistema Klip It case (200ml size) for my bar soap (Dove face bar--gentle on my face and body) and it's worked great. I've had no problems with moisture, it fits everywhere, and is inexpensive.

    Would this fit one of the square shaped shampoo bars? I only use ethique shampoo bars and they tend to be thicker and more square than regular soap bars.

    • @Andytheevien
      @Andytheevien 2 роки тому

      I love Ethique too. Their compostable containers aren't the greatest but does hold a shampoo and conditioner bar well to keep it closed use one of those silicone wristbands. Usually branded with business names. or try the Lush aluminium square container.

    All plastic travel soap boxes are waaaay too big for me! I found a clear hinged box from an organizing store that I use. Smaller than travel soap boxes. I would like to find other options, though.

      Hey The Pondering Minimalist - we currently have no plans to create a video like this in the immediate pipeline, but I'll pass your thoughts onto the team and we'll check it out. Is the Castile Soap a must-have when you travel? 😊

  • @xnykid
    @xnykid 6 років тому +2

    Thanks for the review Tom, that term “dry through” does that mean moisture can escape the bag so the soap will b dry? I have tried soap in a baggie and that is awful. The soap just melts if the moisture stays trapped against it.

    • @xnykid
      @xnykid 6 років тому

      Ok, I just read the Levi String. Sounds like this bag does let moisture out. I don’t travel with liquids except wine, I go with a half bar of ivory soap, I know nobody wants the answer to be that easy but it works great, it cleans without leaving stuff behind. Does the morning laundry really well. Rinse so much easier than castle soap and leaves far less ring in the sink but that’s just imho your mileage may vary.

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  6 років тому

      James - the fragrance of the soap exits when sealed - so there's definitely some breathability. We've had the best luck drying off the soap before storing it as it helps keep for longer.

    • @MrTangent
      @MrTangent 3 роки тому

      @@yeahthatsright33 Take a dry towel and literally encase the soap until it is completely dry. A paper towel would also work. Toilet paper not so much as it disintegrates.

      Hey! The material used allows the soap to breathe and therefore dry out, you can read more about this in our full written review here packhacker.com/travel-gear/matador/flatpak-soap-bar-case/ where we share our experience and tips as well. 😊

    I can’t tell did he wet the soap and put it in the pack and record the reaction. Did the pack hold up to the claims the manufacturer makes... Or did he just repeat it make a good air freshener and the pack looks sleek.

      Maybe I'm crazy but why didn't they make this thing double as a wash mitt. The soap residue that's sure to cake the inside would be perfect for a quick and easy lather up. Put some sort of soft washcloth like lining inside, and make it a little bigger to fit on your hand, flip it inside out, and BAM! Dual purpose soap holder/wash mitt (because what kind of barbarian just lathers up using a bare bar of soap) that won't get your stuff all wet and won't build up disgusting crud on the inside. Now watch, Matador will steal my idea with no credit whatsoever.
