Suitcase straps, super light, take up little space, multitude of uses.
A backpack with a broken zip can be secured with strap.
An over packed backpack that is too large at check in can be compressed with two straps.
This side of the pond some airlines are very strict with size.

Mini flashlight, it’s happened that I’ve been on plane stuck for ages with no power or lights. My phone battery was not going to last. It’s saved the day many times. Also camping (black) duck tape in case of luggage zipper fails.

Not a travel pro. But, a small led light with a glow in the dark cord or capsule attached is handy if you wake up in a pitch black hotel room.

@@meisjeViv I prefer lights that use a single AA or AAA that are made by Fenix, Olight, or Streamlight. I also just picked up a couple of Gear Aid Ni Glo Gear Markers from REI that work very well.

I use the glow in the dark RovyVon Aurora A5 (for anyone looking for recommendations). Although it is expensive at around 45 euros, it's pretty damn practical as it has 4 light levels, is usb rechargable and quite small and it has a light on the side with two different levels and a red/uv light depending on the model that's useful as a reading light or something like that and it comes with a clip so you can clip it to your shirt collar or hat brim for hands free lighting. There are three points of critique I have: 1) due to the transparent body, it's hard to shut out all the light by covering it with your hands when you're using the sidelight and don't want to wake people up with bright lights; 2) although the battery life is acceptable and quite usable, it isn't super long due to the flashlight's small size and 3) (this is more specific to my use case) I'd prefer a blue over a red led because it's a less alarming color to see in the dark when you're seeing someone walk around with the flashlight. But overall, I'd recommend it.

I notice you guys put a lot of wet stuff in dry bags. I like a wet bag with snap handle or a reusable ziplock style bag. If you use the fabric ones, you can throw them in the wash along with the wet or dirty items. Then you can keep the dry bag dry and free of possible bacteria.

anyone knows how to keep the backpack shoulder straps length at the bottom of the pack from sliding? (the loose straps dangling at the end) I've adjusted my shoulder straps perfectly to make the backpack higher up on the back, but after awhile the strap loosens. tried black insulation tape (which i used to secure those dangling straps), but it still loosen :(. using a tortuga set ou 35l btw, pack loads of things everyday

I realize this video doesn’t cover clothing really but after 45+ years of travelling, my wife and I only use carry on bags now. The tech aids available today are great, everything is so much smaller and lighter than it was years ago. One hack I do is lightweight, quick dry shirts and underwear. Lots of products today do not smell even after several days of wearing and being quick dry I can take fewer items knowing that I can wash each night and they will by dry in no time. Although I usually take 5 pair of underwear (because they are lightweight and take very little space), I could get away with just three pairs and always have a clean pair each day. I also take a clothes line with integrated very small carrying pouch. In warm climates drying in the room is easy. In cooler climates I just use the towel drying rack in the shower room. Never had an issue.

Multi charger... InCharge X - same as nomad cable but includes lightning as well. They have a tiny version too, very pocketable
Gossamer gear shoulder pouch - they also make a water bottle holder version that many ultralight backpackers swear by. My wife loves hers

Very interested in the soap bar bag. After having used an aluminum Lush container and then their cork version I stumbled upon the fact that a Vo5 matt clay case is exactly the right fit and doesn’t leak. However the soap bar also doesn’t dry inside. Also the Gerber multitool peaked my interest. I wish it had an allen wrench built in for (un)mounting tripods and plates on my camera but otherwise it seems great. Maybe I’ll even buy some flathead tripod screws instead. Both these items should shave off a few grams while adding convenience.

@@PackHacker Oh, one thing though. The PD capture clip may work OK with lighter gear, but I think the Spider system is better. I got a black widow clip that you can thread a belt through so the camera hangs on your hip. Because the belt is threaded there’s no risk of someone yanking the camera off. It’s mostly plastic so it’s light, but it’s still very sturdy and I’ve seen some UA-camrs say they use it with professional gear as well. I think some clip is available to attach it to a strap as well (though with a 1.5 kg body and lens, that’s not for me ;))
I haven’t actually traveled with that Spider clip yet though. Sooo looking forward to traveling again.

As a suggestion, quick(ish) release clips are nice to have. I have one by NiteIze that my keys live on. It locks, but is easy to release one-handed. I don't know how many times that's come in handy when on a trip or in daily life.
