I agree with @votum123, Severed is by far the shining gem of one the greatest albums of this genre....whole album is fantastically arranged, but Severed is something different...the precise, phat basslines, the lyrics, and the most underrated drummer in the last 30 years of any genre...Matthew Mcdonough, Severed is flat out fuckin dope. If this wont make the channel (as with my ((along with Randy Blythes)) favorite band Holy Fawn),viewers do youself a favor and listen for yourselves....dont get much better
LD50 remains one of the greatest albums in heavy music history, a joyous headf*ck of a record, and an album that must be experienced end to end in one sitting. And well done to the requester for not selecting the obvious choice from this record ('Dig'). My favourite track is -1.
Sonicaly and structurally this song and album still stands out as something super unique and alien. Definitely on another level from everything else deemed "Nu-metal" at the time. They really went above and beyond for this album. The bass is just a trip, but the drum tracks are something else too.
The repetition of certain parts of the song, in my opinion, is done to try and get inside the head of a disturbed person to some degree. It was meant to be uncomfortable and overstated I think.
Man, I’ve actually been considering suggesting this exact song and this band, which is something I’d normally never do. I haven’t even watched this yet I just wanted to express my joy lol. You guys are infectious, and Juds is fascinating. Mudvayne is my favorite thing that exists and this is the one song people should hear. Whoever recommended it, let’s be friends. I hope you guys explore more in this genre, please never stop! Ps if you ever do more Mudvayne, something like Skrying would be a peculiar choice for a musician to hear.
L.D.50 is one of the grooviest metal albums I have heard. The bassist (Ryan Martinie) went onto another project called Soften the Glare. It really showcases his unique style of fingering and picking.
Well I guess I'm listening to LD50 again for 100 000 time, Severed is my favourite song, but you can't go wrong with any of their songs from this album
Love "To Forgive". Another good one is "For Martha". In Nothing to Gein, I liked how the prechrorus keeps adding to itself as it goes along. Great reaction!
"A little boy's best friend's always his mother. At least that's what she said. Life of a simple man. Taught that everyone else is dirty. And their love is meaningless. I'm so soiled!" The lyrics are dark for obvious reasons. And genius. Still one of my favs from the album with Severed being easily the best track.
I praise these musicians for even giving mudvayne a chance, such a powerful band with deep lyrics. That whole ld50 album is a masterpiece full of raw emotion.
If you want some lyrical depth that has more relevance today than any other track, I'd highly recommend the title track choices from Mudvaynes Lost and Found album. I don't understand why nobody on yt has reacted to such a masterpiece!?
Don't think cuz a band is exploring what could make a man so sick, that in some way glorifies, vouches or, tries to justify it. Metal bands explore the extremities of human nature. Trying to think, "if I lived ed geins life would I have turned out like him?"... Just like slayer doesn't really worship Satan. I kinda think it's a bit near sighted to miss what these bands are saying.
@@SteveCoronado2You're goddamn right, you can't put mudvayne in the same category as LP or Limp Bizkit, maybe their later albums are closer to the genre but still, I'd say they're very prog-like. It makes me cringe when they call Mudvayne nu-metal and leave it at that
Chad is one of the best lyricists. Read up on Gein and on what his mom did to him. The energy, the jumps into funky rhythm like the insanity of Gein, the emotions, the repeating of words…the raw emotion is enough, but on top of all that Chad perfectly makes connections to the little details about Gein’s messed up life. From Wikipedia- His mother frequently preached to her sons about the innate immorality of the world, the evil of drinking (Lyrics: life submissiveness hypnotizing the ignorant) and her belief that all women were naturally promiscuous and instruments of the devil. (Lyrics: Life of a simple man, taught that everyone else is dirty) She took advantage of the farm's isolation by turning away outsiders who could have influenced her sons. She punished Gein whenever he tried to make friends. (Lyrics: a little boys best friend is always his mother, at least that’s what she said) Don’t ever disrespect yourself like that again “the lyrics took away from the….” ….shhhh 🤫 You study that album
I was in 7th grade when I discovered the L.D 50 album. I played the album so much it stopped working on my Walkman. I had to buy another copy but by then I had an IPod. Such a dark albu.
I called it on the opening of this video. It sounded familiar and I called it on the chorus part. One of my favorite songs from the Melon Collie and The Infinite Sadness alblum
I fully expected to leave this video wanting to listen to Mudvayne. I was not expecting to leave it wanting to listen to the Smashing Pumpkins but I recognized the song almost right away so this is where I am now.
LD50 album .. so good that it took me 20 years to match songs title with the tracks. Dont have to because the whole album make one great melody 👍 Absolute banger 👌
Holy crap I haven’t heard this song in ages! I hear a lot of Mr. Bungle influence in the instrumentation…speaking of which, some Mike Patton would be fun to react to!
That isn’t a fretless bass. That is just the sound that you get from a Warwick thumb. It has a very distinct sound. Combine that with the way Ryan plays the bass it gives it the sound of fretless but isn’t actually fretless
Yes he finally got to hear some Mudvayne! This is not the funnest topic of a song but awesome none the less. Chad is a poet of the highest caliber. I like Smashing Pumpkin on piano better, because I don't have to hear his voice that way. The rest of the band is great though.
I kinda like dude off to the side, the pianist doesn't ask as many questions while listening and the sideways glances are so much funnier! sorry I'm terrible with names, I've watched lots of your content!
I initially thought it was Freebird at first but thought no way he does something that easy to identify. I was wrong and right!! Befitting a Libra if you believe that sort of thing. 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻💯 Easily the best Smashing Pumpkins album and I’m not a big fan but enjoy that album. Now let’s rock to one of my all time favorites MUDVAYNE 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻💯 Obviously I wrote this before the reaction 🤣
@Greatmeasures1 Select parts of one song wouldn't classify the fretless bass as a Mudvayne staple. The fretless bass would be a staple of bands like Intronaut. Haven't read that interview, good find. I appreciate the content, keep it up
I love this band, this album, this track. I dont think it's a polyrythm. I think it's intentionally confusing 3rd count over an 8 count. Where they meet on an 18. Im definitely not sure but metal music is fun.
Severed is probably my favorite song off of L.D. 50, such a great track and an absolute classic album.
Mine too. That’s the next Mudvayne song we’ll do.
Yes!! My fave as well.

Yep, Severed and Cradle are masterpieces
Cradle is my favorite off of that album too, but honestly the whole album is fire! 🔥

I adore this album. This band opened my eyes to an avenue of music I did not know existed back when I was younger. I will always love them.

Mudvayne came into nu metal with the technicality and progressive elements. It's like Slipknot meets Tool. In a good way.
A good way to describe Mudvayne. The aggressiveness of Slipknot and the creativity of Tool.
Aaahhh yesssss
When slipknot & tool have kids.. It'll be mudvayne
9:36 Judson goes into laser focus and has the rhythm scheme sorted with head nods. Love it.
Chad gray is a great singer. Mudvayne also has one of the best bassist.
The repetition of certain parts of the song, in my opinion, is done to try and get inside the head of a disturbed person to some degree. It was meant to be uncomfortable and overstated I think.

Great choice . Highly underrated song
It's an incredible album. If I wasn't so broke, I would go on Patreon and request -1. I love that song from LD50.

Amazing song!!!
Such a great channel. Don't ever get cocky, just know that this format is original

One of the best rhythm sections in all of heavy metal !!
Smashing pumpkins- to forgive
Fucking incredible album from start to finish.
This band is freaking amazing!!!!!!!
"That's what she said, in the lyrics" lol... Judson is the best!

Mudvayne? Oh boy, I'm here for it. I couldn't get enough from them as a teenager 😅
I’m not sure I’d categorize Mudvayne as nu metal because when I think of bands in that genre I think of Lincoln Park, Korn and possibly Limp Bizkit
I would probably classify them as progressive alternative metal

I'm weirdly obsessed with We Only Come Out At Night from that Pumpkins album.
Man what a great tune. Ryno is a beast… he makes the band.
i would love to see some Soften the Glare! it's more of Ryan's sick bass playing without any lyrics
I want to recommend Soften the Glare also. Really shows how talented Ryan is.
This song is so soothing.
Love it. They definitely have their place in this glimpse of metal over our lifetime. Good choice. Trivium "Shadow of the abattoir"

Patton would be a fantastic rabbit hole for Judson.
I've really come to enjoy the opening beautiful piano pieces, right before FACE-SMASHING METAL.
damn you have him straight up muted during the song! lmfao
That whole album is nasty
Acid Bath - Dead Girl
When I put LD 50 on, if I do skip a song or 2, this and dig are it.

First time listening this group. A merge between Pantera ans SOAD.

Please react to Equilibrium - Kurzes Epos!
What a great song, thought Judson would like it more! Great stuff again. Please react to JAGUAR GOD by MASTODON Please Please Please...

Machine Head - Locust. Please!
Do "Gossip" by Manneskin. The future of rock n roll! And some old Deicide! Haha
The purpose of using words like meaningless and dirty was to emphasize the crap Ed geins mother stole in his head
Bewitched by candlemass please!!
More Gojira, pleeeease
Now listen to slayers 213 and don't tell him a damn thing about what it's about
Also The Black Dahlia Murder’s “Control”. It’s about the same person
Chad was so on point on the first 2 albums... He kind of lost a step while the rest of the band just got better imo.
Good assumption Richard. I figured he would like the music but not the lyrics. It's not a common theme for their songs at least.
Always thought these guys were style over substance but that was actually ok.
