0:55 small tip. Hold the testtube down and then pull out the cotton. No need to worry. :) 2:50 they probably only wanted to get their nest ready to move into 😅 6:21 check discord. I think I know where the queens are. 10:00 probably in their nest. 😂just kidding. Maybe under the plane and the food dish. They probably still check out their area 🤔
I’m having a hard time finding out how many ants there are since they are in a natural set up. I’m thinking my colony is already starting to hibernate a bit since they ain’t very active. So can’t say how many sadly
I’m pretty surprised you reply to comments on far older videos like this. You really must enjoy making these vids for us. Ever since it’s only been Ants Canada after Ants Aus kinda disappeared, and after I found this channel, you really taught me about a lot of species in other countries. Thanks.
Thank you for the kind words! And yeah I want to respond to as much as possible. If people comment on comments I don’t see it. But new comments I see 🙌🏻😄
Just to know their sting is like a nettle not that painfull i have a colony of the same species of about 500 workers and 4 queens so i know, and another thing for you to know is that they like wet nests i recommend watering them 1-2 a week
Well myrmica have some wired nuptial flights. Depending on where you live it can be quite hard to find queens. If you are in the uk it should be pretty easy to capture queens during nuptial flights 🤔☺️
This is so cool with three Queens, one may not haave eaten her wings-which is cool I'd guess with the other two eaten their wings there'd be plenty of protein stores for first larvea, I love this species they are very energetic at times
I cannot wait when I get my colony of those amazing ants. I like them ever since I was a child and accidently sat close to their nature nest and I have received few greetings on my back side :-)
I think it’s because their nest just got ripped apart and they didn’t know what to do. Just a a state of chaos inside the tube. So yeah I think they where just confused 😅
how many workers does youre colony have in this vid? and how much now? i want to buy a colony but i dont want to wait for ever before they grow big, i would buy a colony with 2 queens and 50+ workers
Well they had around 300 worker I was told. Had a lot of bad thing happen with them so today they probably have the same amount but that’s my mistake. They do grow fast now tho ☺️
Did you get them off eBay last year i was selling these colony's last year, they all had at least 10 queens each, I have big colonys here ranging from 10-100 queen I am selling them if interested, let me know how many queens you want in a colony and I can do it sky's the limit,
This was the video that inspired me to make my own and get into ant keeping alongside a few other UA-camrs! Check my latest video as any advice will be seriously helpful
I have more queens in my colony than you have workers, I am selling colonys with a custom number of queens, I am being serious I have just down sized my colony to only 30 queens, but I have the rest ready to round up into separate colonys, I have just gave a friend a colony of 100+ queens,, I love your set up tho, it's on my to do list to make something like that
Haha yeah I know. But the reason I said giant was because it was my first big colony. My biggest colony has 30 workers or so. This that new colony was “gigantic” 😆😅
Great video! They looks amazing!
Thanks I’m very happy about them 😄

Okay thanks for the tip, and yeah they seem very ready to move into nothing 😂
And I will check discord (if I can figure it out) 😄😄
Looks great. I finally found a myrmica queen and i am hoping to have a colony as big! 😀
Congrats 😄😄
So how big are they now?
My colony or his? 😅
@ant holleufer both of you

Yeah I water them 2-3 times a week and thanks for telling tho 100 nettle still doesn’t sound that great 👀😳😂
Absolutely stunning footage! 💪
Thanks there some amazing clips in this video 😄
The stings from these ants do not hurt they are more of a irritant, it feels more itchy than anything else
Are they have nuptials flight
Well mine colony haven’t had nuptials flight yet. But normally the species will do it in between August - September
Great vid 😁😁😁👍
Thanks 😄😄
Ant Holleufer by the way have you got any tips on ant keeping don’t worry if you don’t thanks
Well I don’t know if I have “tips” (I made I video with 5 small tips) but no real tips except for being patient. That’s my biggest mistake so far
Thanks I’ll watch it and I’m really impatient to I’m now trying not to look a lot but I check the ants every day
Yeah know the feeling
Where do u guys find myrmica rubra queens

Yeah they are amazing to watch 😄
My super colony mates the queens in the nest the young queens that do leave the nest get dragged back in before they have chance to fly,
😂😂 typical ants 😂
do myrmica rubra have major workers or supermajors?
No all are the same size ☺️
@@AntHolleufer also do you know how long do eggs stay as larva before they hatch? mine seems to be growing slowly(egg)
No
how many queens can a Myrmica rubra Linnaeus colony have
I don’t know the difference to just myrmica rubra. But I’m guessing the same meaning they can have multiple queens ☺️
@@AntHolleufer thanks

That's a cricket
😂😂😂 yeb sometimes I lose my words 😂
what grow it fast myrmica rubra or camponotus nicobarensis
Nicobarensis. Much faster ☺️
Do you use heating cables? Is so, how?
I have used it a bit in the side of the glass without any real results so not to much
Hello I think a found a queen? Are they as big as a pavement ant queen?
Hmm I think they are bigger but not to sure to be honest 😅🤔

Ants kingdom 😊

Got them from ants kingdom, but they are not doing to well at the moment so may be instead in the future. What’s the prices?
@@AntHolleufer depends on how many queens alot lot cheaper then any ant store
Well I’m not to sure yet. But if I need a colony I will get back to you

I think I found a myrmica queen like a a few weeks ago without even realising it regret not checking now
Know the feeling, before I kept ants my self I only saw videos and one day a also found a Formica fusca queen with out knowing
If they are fire ants - my cat is king of the jungle XD
