Outstanding!!! I have been searching for months for a no nonsense how to video and wow, just wow! I appreciate you taking the time to share the knowledge and omgoodness so grateful! Thank you, you seriously made my entire day! Bless your journey!
How did you attach the extensions? Glue and finishing nails? Do you think I can do this on an old staircase that has balusters? I could knotch out the baluster location on the far right side of the tread and riser extension as well if recommended. Our treads are all 9 1/2 and it’s quite steep.
Now what happens if a patio door going to the back yard is in the place of that closet? That extra stair depth would be sticking out in front of the door.
Yeah what if…. But it’s not, this is his solution. Someone with the scenario you described will need to find his own solution.. they are called critical thinking skills
Your explanation is garbage Bec you didn’t explain the new height or how thick the new treads to make it 11”or specifically explain you didn’t cut or replace a new treads or you just add a small piece on the end of the tread to get the 11”
The original treads were 9.5" each. By putting a 2x8 (actual 1.5 x 7.5) against the raiser to the top step, it extended that tread to 11" (1.5+9=11). This made the tread on the second step to be 8". By adding 2 more 2x8, it made the second tread 11" (1.5+1.5+8 = 11). This then made the tread on the last step to be 6.5". By adding 3 more 2x8, it now made it 11" (1.5+1.5+1.5+6.5"=11"). Maybe I got lucky that the riser height was the same as the 2x8 width where I didn't have to trim or add to it.

Oh man, you’re amazing. I fixed my stairs just like you and it really works. Thanks
omg!! thank you! finally someone showed me how to do this. 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😭😭😭
Thank you! Definitely taught a lot of people
Good video, I have a similar problem in my basement, I needed this thanks
Absolutely fantastic job!
that's a great fix for a big safety issue. I think the return (extension to the left at the bottom) looks really good.
Do i use normal floorboards wood?
I have the same problem but my stairs has 15 steps. Do i have to add 1 extra 2x6 for each step all the way down?
Thanks! Narrow treads to my basement are an accident waiting to happen!

Sorry for the delayed response. I used construction adhesive and 3" screws for each extension.
Did you do it? I’m having the same issue
Great job. It looks good. Don't listen to those negative comments.
Great idea..thanks so much!
Thank you. That was very helpful
what if I have 12 of them ??
I have the opposite problem. My stairs going up are narrow and only 10.5 inches wide while the bottom 3 are 11 inches

Well let's try to use our Brain 🧠 for just one second. Your scenario you just described is obviously a no can do.

Thank you so much!!!
How you did it , you left us in the air.
At 0:36 I explained (and showed) what I did.
Fantabulous
Thank you so much
How does he do it then
I don’t know what you mean. At the 0:36 mark I show what I did. Is the whole video not playing?
You didn’t show nothing but and pictures with no explanation

@@stevenloretero9079 what if it’s 9.5 for the whole stair case
Great Job Thanks
