No, the LEGO UCS AT-AT is not impossible to take apart

- Two weeks ago I uploaded a UA-cam short about the new LEGO Star Wars UCS AT-AT, there's a specific Technic assembly in it that is a bit more challenging to take apart than usual.
It all started with an article on Brickset, I did not really agree with their conclusion as they said you need something sharp to take things apart and parts will be damaged. I made a short video to reflect on that and to provide an easy solution. Vice picked up their article and also linked my video but they actually misunderstood it, I didn't use the knife at all, so here's a video to clarify the whole story.

This was only a problem for people too young to remember taking Lego apart before the invention of the Brick Separator, who now think nothing is possible without one. (Grooveless tiles anyone?)
I only use a brick separator if I don’t want to risk damaging pieces
I actually time my disassembly of LEGO sets to when my fingernails are almost ready to be clipped. :) I use my long nails to pry pieces apart, then clip them short and even afterwards.
Or for people that would expect a clean method to disassemble an official set or trying to figure it out without having it in their hands but just by looking at a picture of it.
This is exactly the kind of problem that is almost non-existent, only the media and reviewers blow it up.
I think the only problem with this is that when someone inserts the assembly in the wrong hole(pun intended) while building, and then it causes minor inconvenience having to figure out what is the best way to take it apart. That's probably frustrating while building such an exiting and big set.
Other than that, I have no issue with Lego using this technic if it's necessary.
Assuming you don’t mess up the build, worst case scenario you have a few pieces stuck together that you can’t take apart. It doesn’t stop you rebuilding the set in any way lmao. You just miss out on a couple steps
@@noahdiluca9857 you misunderstand. I am saying that it's an inconveniance if you make a mistake, and put the pieces which you can't take apart in the wrong place. Because in that case you have to take it apart to finish the build. But since theres only 3 holes where you can put it, it's pretty hard to make a mistake.
@@soosandras555 i didn't misunderstand I was agreeing with you
@@noahdiluca9857 haha you're right! I misunderstood you, sorry!
His power is too great, he must be eliminated before he realizes his full potential! Jk ofc, but seeing how easily you managed to disassemble that seemingly ‘stuck forever’ pin out of the frame was a bit shocking and frightening haha. Not that I have experience, but I thought it’d be harder than just that.
How often will these large UCS sets been debuild? Once? Twice? Never? Who cares if it is not straight forward to disassemble, more important is stability of the build set.
would you be okay with gluing sections of a set together?
In addition to ensuring the pin doesn't get easily pulled out, IMO I think the inner assembly ensures the frame stays attached to the turntable. In essence, ensuring step 128 isn't undone by the weight of the model.
The worst LEGO disassembly experience I've ever had was from the Razor Crest set a year ago. A few locations using the technic pin part No. 15461 were nearly impossible to remove from the cross-pinned assembly. The two-pin insertion in very strong, and with only a smooth rounded pin hole to grip it for removal, I almost had to get pliers.
Put a half Bush at the end of the axle with the stopper and then put it in and then when you want to remove it you will find it easy try it out.
A fraction want to dismantle.
A fraction of a fraction will damage the part dismantling.
A fraction of a fraction of a fraction will care about a scratched hidden part.
A fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a fraction will call customer support and will probably get a new 4l Axle... or maybe a bagful!
Actually we don't need more Lego Star Wars review channel. Ryanand the others does it pretty well. You're the one of the best Lego Technic and car experts in YT. Keep going in this road👍
I'm not sure why people / channels should be restricted to a single LEGO theme, but thanks for your input.
Guys, this is a genius at work
I did this by accident when i was 15. but with a normal axle (no stoper)... its still together today.
Having often committed the cardinal sin of modifying Lego pieces for functional reasons, if you have a pin or axle in a blind hole that is unretrievable.. you can use a scribe to place a divot in the end. then with light pressure and a pin-vise you can feed a fine twist drill into the divot and pull it back out.
If there is still too much friction for the drill bit to maintain a grip, remove the drill bit and gently begin to feed a tapered screw or machine fastener into the stuck piece and then pull it out. Basically the same process as a bolt extraction, but for Lego axles/pins/etc
Words of wisdom: it's easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission
I would love to see you review Star Wars sets
I think that impossible disassembly is term for connections which can.be disassembled only by tools or by tolerancis.in parts. UCS is the second case.
I had this problem about an hour ago and I saw your video))
Thanks for your video. You successfully made your point.
The magic words: hey!do you know how much i love you😅
Not sure if it is enough in the case of the AT-AT (or the UCS Falcon) :D
Thank you so much!
The sign on the thumbnail lol 😂
the magic word is investment ;)
Hi, can you make like a tugboat tutorial that floats, fast propeller but a strong one , pls
Vice made a mess of it, honestly🤦🏻♂️...and I guess your wife's always right as "she has the higher ground" 👍🏼😆
Im really not a huge Star Wars fan, but I think the AT-AT looks like an *amaaaaazing* set, and I would absolutely *LOVE* to see you do a review on it! I think the perfect (and actually completely legitimate) excu-i-mean reasoning to explain to The Wife is that your *over one hundred thousand loyal subscribers* absolutely insist upon it! haha
also, I've noticed in a few vids now your numeric tattoo on your left forearm, i hope that it isn't entirely improper, impolite and uncouth of me to ask what it is in its entirety and the meaning behind it? I appologize profusely if this is too much of a personal question, feel free to say so haha
Aaaaanyway, thank you so much for all of your absolutely fantastic content, as well as your time reading and possibly answering this comment =) thanks again my friend
Well, the biggest issue with the AT-AT is the space it requires :)
About the tattoo, it's a date and it's kindof personal.
Bro, after watching this vid I had an idea of making one that's actually impossible to remove if you use the same 2 module long axle connector again, and now Its actually impossible to remove please help
One more way: the "bicycle bell" (black) connector is hollow inside. You can use a wooden toothpick to push both the red 2-module axle and the axle with the stop. Put a toothpick inside that connector from the outside and push on the toothpick while holding the frame.
Would be nice, but if you push the red axle with the toothpick, that pushes both the 2L connector and the 2L tube piece against the inner side of the frame, so it does not push the axle with stop :)
@@RacingBrick Oh, I thought the 2L axle connector didn't have stop inside. Well... then this is a bust.
Use a pin vice and a small diameter drill bit to clear the stop from the bore, and then this method works.
There are usually two magic words. Shoes or Bags. At least as expensive as the set you are buying.
You should ask Lego to send you a big Lego set for a review
I had the Titanic, that was big enough to thanks :)
Yes please review the small sets!
Already happened :) ua-cam.com/video/RJ71nS4l_ig/v-deo.html
@@RacingBrick oh, thanks
Great Explanation 👍
The magic word is: the channel income will pay the UCS set ;-)
Magic word: Monetization
I think there could've been a better solution to prevent the pin from going in, although maybe it wouldn't have been as robust
Hello RacingBrick, Is there a building doc of the wing on the racetruck (42041) ?? (its behind you in the video)
No, it's a custom build that I did not finish yet
Can i ask. What is this set/moc under race truck on left side (your right)? It looks like black pick up
41999 in black
Brickset/Vice: lego has done it! An assembly that is impossible, IMPOSSIBLE to take apart!!
RacingBrick: ok guys, deep breath, just look here, it comes apart ::wiggle, wiggle:: see?
Brickset/Vice: WITCHCRAFT!!!!
people are just looking for a reason not to spend $800. its harder to take two stacked 2x2 plates apart and if they really cared about this, they would mention step 280/281 as well. is much harder to take apart if you ask me
And that's why it is an 18+ set. Use your imagination, people! That's what Lego is about. :)
Ha annak a rúdnak nem lenne az a kör alakú megállító része akkor nem lehetne szétszedni miután be van dugva xd
I knew It was much ado about nothing. Thanks for putting this to rest. Also inadvertently showed why shorts are bad lol
Nah, it's just people who don't read/watch till the end and misunderstand, and the authors have to apologize. For the stupidity of their readers!
I think building step 281 of the AT-AT (second book) might be more challenging to disassemble. It is some new kind of 3-long frictionless pin. I build it yesterday but forgot to try to disassemble it right away.
That piece appears to be able to have a bar piece (like a lightsaber blade) inserted into it to help pull it out.
I can't for the life of me get my nail into it. I think mine is not getting pushed by the axel hole as much and is instead getting pushed in. So for me it was impossible without a very tiny tipped knife which was also hard to get under it. I do think this is a horrible design. I built many sets before having the brick Seperator piece and of course had difficulties with some pieces but nothing this bad in an official set...
I feel like there’s similar assemblies in the 1:8 technic cars and the point of these display pieces is that they’re made to last, so I don’t really see the issue here.
Edit: yeah it was mentioned in the vid, I commented halfway through haha
Haha. LEGO actually published a video instruction on how to disassemble the pins due to the online outrage. Funny that it's still not enough to please some stubborn AFOL's.

good morning boss

Hello from Finland
A lot to do about nothing. Period
I think at the point where you need to make a guide for it, with or without a knife, we all can agree that LEGO have failed to follow their own basic principle.
Tegnap vágtam körmöt…akkor most megvegyem a szettet vagy ne?
Mire kiszállítják kinő újra :D
@@RacingBrick igen...de a küldemény várása az körömrágós szokott lenni :D
