I just subscribed to your channel a couple weeks ago. I just happened to find it while watching another channel on logging. Also listen to you about the difficulties you’ve been going through. May God continue blessing to your family and please stay the course with your faith. I hope your channel continues to grow. From Northwest Pa. ☕️🦌
Thank you very much for the kind words! Thank you for your prayers as well. Trusting in God is all we can and that takes a lot of weight off our shoulders
Are you reading Job 4 family devos? 😂. When we did, felt like every time we turned around something would break, whether a jitney, or something in the house. Keep your head high brother, God is in control, the devil definitely wants us to loose focus for sure, on that. Stay safe and God bless
Hi David. I enjoy your videos. Sorry Jack needs a Clutch. That cost no one needs but does fall under a needed repair. Hopefully the cost to fix won’t be to bad. Thanks for the videos.
Hey dave you're doing everything right with cutting except you're not cutting the bark on both sides of your hinge if you cut in a inch or 2 you shouldn't get the tree slabbing like your getting especially on them dam hickorys
Yes I agree with you! I usually cut the sap wood on cherry and hickory but i didn’t dare with the lean that hickory had. Thanks for the comment! You are 100 percent right
I built a tent around an old JD 440 A in the woods to replace a clutch once. Didnt have a dozer to pull her out. .... Put a stove in both ends. I did the clutch job in ole Jackson once, and it was much better. Parts were the same as a 3/4 ton chevy truck. I'm sure you have heard of Murrphy's laws right. Well, he was an optimistic arse with a twisted sence of humor. 😂 Hang in there. ❤❤
The step cut works by containing the split until it leaves the stump if Done right it gives ya more time to get away from it aswell. Most of the time boring the center out and boring to leave a trigger like normal works fine but every once and a while it can come in handy
@@daveyslogging logger wade did a vid showing it off on a rotten beach it didn’t work perfectly but it shows how it can be used given the right conditions
I've Ben there done that with our timber jack about 1/4 mile back in the woods to say made for a long couple days was an understatement and where exactly in ny are you located brother
@daveyslogging there is a guy in Halifax vt . Francis Brown repair that I use to get timberjack parts from also. I miss the smell of sawdust and diesel. Stay safe
Not Good the Jack Broke. I know what it's like to have items Break. Can you belive it Dave, the Pump went the other Day, Wife went to use the Oven on our Stove, and Smoke was coming.out of it, Electrical Fire. Breaker kicked of but it was a Few Minutes to get it out. Being a Retired Police Sgt, Paramedic it payed off, no Fire Dept. Needed. No Damage to Kitchen, just the Stove and Electrical Smell. New Stove coming tomorrow. Thank you very much for sharing Ron. I hope your luck will start turning around for you. I give you tree service company’s credit. You won’t catch me 5ft off the ground lol
I don't remember, you probably have said in some other video, what parameters are involved in knowing what tree you are going to take? Secondly, you have some species that are not common here in the south. For example, Bass Wood. Perhaps bits of tree identification from time to time would be interesting. I don't know, just a couple of thoughts. Really fun video to watch. One other quick question, what's your preferred bar length? Thanks again for going to the trouble of getting this footage. Tell your partner in crime howdy! Your gonna make him famous!
I will do something like that at some point! Hard wood I cut mostly 10 and 12 ft logs, 8fters every once in a while. Hemlock 25ft unless it’s got sweep to it. Tiny says hi 👋
Another great video...thanks Dave. Keep em coming. Is the 500i in your opinion a lot better than a 461 or 462? And is your neck protector attached to your helmet? I gotta get one of those for this dredded snow this winter. We marked about 2.5 acres last friday for me to cut as crop tree release but snow down my neck when i fellin is the wrorst!😂 FYI...My land is in lyndonville
Man that’s a tough question lol. Stock 461 is reliable but slow in my opinion. Has to be ported to be a good fast saw. I’m still a huge lover of the 462. I use to have one but after 4 million ft of timber it was tired. 500 has been an excellent saw as well. I’ve owned it 4 years now, zero issues. Just maintenance. I got my neck protector from Stihl dealership. They had to Order it, connects right to the helmet. It’s a must! lol
My two cents here but if that aiming stump was 40 ft out then figure how much lean the tree to cut has at 40 ft of height and aim the tree that amount opposite of the lean. Fun watching your vids.
More good work! Thanks for the tips on leaners. You and Tiny make a great team!
You’re welcome! Thank you very much
Thanks!🙏
Thank you very much! My family and I greatly appreciate it

I would love to spend a week in the woods learning from you,you have the inner calm to be a great teacher.
Thank you very much.
I know it sucks to have a breakdown, but it does make good content! lol SR
lol if you say so!
Sorry about the equipment break down David, not like it’s hard enough, it’s just another step keep going and keep the faith. Great video
Yep it’s going to happen no matter how good of care you give it 😮
You’ve got that right! Just gotta keep plugging away

lol no, I think my skidder knows when times are tight and says “I’ll break now!” 😂 thank you very much man. Appreciate it
It was a pleasure to watch. Thanks, Dave.
You’re welcome
Outstanding job! And description!
Thank you!
I've done Coos bay cuts on heavy leaning cherry, quaking aspen, and maple. I don't know if would work on hickory?
Idk, hickory can be sketchy just standing straight lol
I like the way you explain how to cut the tree, you keep it simple.
Simple is easy and good. Thank you
Great information Dave
Thanks John!
What kind of wedge do u uses for felling
My favorites are madsens. I also use k and h but they tend to blow up when it gets cold
Another good video. Thanks
Thank you! You’re welcome
Oh that snow in the trees. Nasty to deal with. Be safe. 👍
Yes it’s miserable lol
Stay safe out there buddy I lost a 35 year old friend last year to a logging accident
I’m sorry to hear that. I lost my best friend a couple years ago in one. I do my best to stay safe
I didn’t know that many people were killed cutting trees down 😢😢😢
@@philliphall5198 number one dangerous job
Yeah, with the dead ash now, it’s much worse
Sorry to hear the skidder broke down.
Good work on felling those leaners !
Thank you very much!
I’m in Niagara county and have a camp in Allegany county , we’ve avoided the snow totals you are logging in western NY
Feel free to take some lol
Great video Dave. God bless, an praying for your wife, an all of you. Jesus is king. Jerry from Ohio

@daveyslogging i live in otsego county ny
How many levels of game of logging have you done? Level 3 and 4 will show you a lot about how to safely take down hard leaners.
1-4. It’s been around 10-12 years since I’ve done 3 and 4
