Had issues with my 04 Camry starting. Took it to AutoZone they scanned the battery and alternator and they reported the alternator was bad. Got the alternator replaced. A week later the car didn’t start. Today I got the starter replaced. After getting the scan from Auto Zone I should have taken my car in to get it fully diagnosed. If the root cause of the problem was the starter then paying for the alternator was not needed. Learned a valuable lesson. Also, when I got the car back the radio wouldn’t turn on. I had to replace both fuses to the radio to get the radio back on. Also learned the tool to remove your fuses is inside the fuse box under the engine hood which is a little white crimping tool. Fingers crossed this car gives me no more problems haha 😂
Been there done that lol. I invested into the tools to isolate the problem. (Voltmeter) to check if the alternator is charging and check the woring to the starter for example.
I just replaced the battery when my starter was bad because I didn't bother to diagnose it first. At least I know my battery is not going to die anytime soon, and you know your alternator won't. Better that then get stranded on the side of a highway at the most inopportune time.
Good to know. Thank you for the tip. When my car goes through a maintenance period I'll write down a lessons learned note to help me learn more about cars. I'll add this to it. Appreciate it. @@dowen350
Thank you for shooting this video. Lately, I've had weak first starts also. The car seems to start up fine later in the day, but the initial start is always kind of wimpy and doesn't quite do it.
I saw the weak first-time start symptom a few times too then the starter suddenly died. If you are out of town you will be in trouble. It's not hard and gonna save you hundreds of dollars of towing, part and labor fee to just buy a new starter from Amazon and follow this brilliant video. Took me only about 1 hour with a standard socket wrench. Good luck!
@@dllizhiyang my weak starter died at Walmart yesterday while waiting for the replacement part in the mail! I was lucky someone helped me get it started tapping on it while I turned the key. I installed the new one today.
@@raiden031 congrats! Mine old one died while I was in gym and luckily it turned on for the the last time after trying for 20 times - so that I could drive to my garage and install the new starter!
Very nice 👌 Rolando, very helpful and informative as symple as one can demonstrate. I just make sure all electrical connections are clean as the air filter box and starter housing with visual inspection and fly wheel. And thank you for giving us the torque speck. This is important but if one has this tool 🔧 but do your best 😉,when you have time please review my kia heater core replacement. 😎👍
I was experiencing the same sound. I replaced the battery and its still happening. Probably need to replace my starter as well. At least it seems like a simple enough job.
@@hyr0llr well I ordered a new starter, and while waiting for it to arrive I took the car on a trip to a local Walmart yesterday. I went to leave the store and the ignition wouldn't crank at all. I call my wife to come pick me up, and meanwhile some guy parked next to me sees me looking under the hood and asked if I need any help. I tell him I have a brand new battery and suspect the starter has failed. He has a jumper device and we try that just in case, but it has no effect. So he suggested tapping on the starter motor with a tool he had as I try to start it and amazingly it barely cranks just enough to start it up and drive home. I dodged a bullet and annoyed my wife, but was so relieved no tow truck would be needed. The new starter arrived today, I installed it in about 1.5 hours, and replaced the air filter while at it. It fired right up with such power, I don't remember the last time it sounded that strong. I felt like Clark Griswold about to try out his Christmas lights as I sat in the vehicle before that moment. Thank you for the video!
I have a weird issue... I have everything disconnected (bolts out, both wires out), and I can't remove the starter. It won't budge the tiniest fraction of an inch, as if it was super-glued to the engine block.
@@Anjirito people will say yes. people will say just tighten them by hand good n tight. But when i can find torques i go by that. if i cant find them, i go by what size bolts they are. little 8-10 mm dont need much. 12-14 mm can handle some torque by a normal 3/8 ratchet
Thank you! This was a super easy repair thanks to your video. Knowing the socket sizes saved a ton of time and effort as well.
Great to hear. Cheers on your repair.

Your alternator still could have been not charging properly

Nice going. I'm ordering a starter. My car doesn't crank every try. I tap on the starter and it cranks. I imagine the solenoid is bad.
Thank you. sounds like its bad. good luck on your repair
My used starter lasted 2 years. Going to use a remanufactured this time.
Thanks for the easy access Toyota! If this was a Mercedes sedan you might have to drop the subframe 😂
Thank you sir. Excellent

I Just Took My Car To The Mechanic To Get A New Starter For My 2004 Toyota Camry.
I Got It Back, And It's Completely Stalling Now.
Any Guesses?
stalling while driving? make sure nothing is loose like the battery cables or anything like that
The power nut on my starter was a 13... Put my intake was also missing a screw so I don't think that's your mistake
How many miles did it failed?
Great job 👍
Good job ❤
thank you

Did you get it?
Wut tools did you use for the nut of 108 pounds??
a 3/8 inch pound torque wrench
Thanks 🙏

Not clear where you got the torque numbers from..
its just what i was able to pull off online at the time of recording
