Tristan, I’ve watched nearly all of your videos, but during this one my heart was thumping really hard, seeing you walk along the ridge. You are amazing! Thank you for your wonderful videos.
I grew up in CO and this was so nostalgic to watch, I've done both of those hikes several times, back when CO was less populated and trails were rarely crowded...it's so very different now, I wouldn't move back there...I was surprised to see all of the regulations around the hanging lake trail (those were not always there, for sure, but my guess is the heavy traffic was impacting the environment/habitat too much). But wow, if you're willing to go early, farther out, and in the shoulder seasons, I'm happy to see some solitude can still be found. Lovely footage and thanks for sharing, love your channel! :)
My husband and I hiked to Hanging Lake on our honeymoon 55 years ago. There was a little sign, the parking was a wide spot on the road. Can't remember if we saw other people, but I do remember the trail was longer and steeper than we expected. But will never forget the breathtaking view of the lake when we first saw it. Oh how things change, except the beauty of Colorado. Thank you for this and all your excellent videos. 🙂. Susan
I'm another CO native who moved away and the sheer busy-ness of the CO mountains is both understandable and enough to have me looking up less frequented places to visit. Can't say I blame anyone for wanting to explore the CO mountains, though. They are amazing.
Tristan! Just when I think you have done the most nerve-wracking hike, you do THIS! I was queasy just watching you on that narrow, rocky path. But those views! We could see the joy in your face while you were freaking us out. 😳 Great video. Again. Thanks to you (and Cassie!) for sharing your amazing adventures with us.
Really enjoyed this one! Stunning drone footage of the Causeway and great thoughts about travel in the mountains of Colorado (a place I'm very close to, but have avoided for the same reasons). You changed my mind and I have a few new destination ideas. Thanks!
Thanks for taking me on these amazing hikes. Hanging Lake has too many rules for me, but I'm putting Devil's Causeway on my bucket list. But I'll be crawling the causeway, not holding a camera. Well done Tristan.
@@SUVRVing Son and I went to Hanging Lake *before* it was "discovered" and had a wonderful time. The rules really are obnoxious now....but I understand why it had to be done. It was "discovered"...and went downhill from there before the regulations were put in place.
The rules had to be made to protect the land and wildlife because people abuse those areas or they did unsafe things. Not all people respect nature and wildlife like we do.
I should have said "too much development" rather than "to many rules". Boardwalks are not my idea of a wild experience. There are plenty of places that have not been "loved to death".
Tristan, you do an excellent job in all your videos not just capturing the natural beauty of where you happen to be but you also provide perspective on where you are, how it relates to the rest of the region and frequently some of the human history. Overall I never tire of watching your video productions and encourage you to please continue. I know Colorado well from living there in the 70’s and 80’s long before it’s population exploded. I hope you will keep its beauty before your camera lenses!
So glad you had all that space to yourself. What a fantastic trail with a unique feature - reminded me of the chained area of Angels Landing. The second hike was almost like a mirage, so scenic and serene. Thanks again for taking us along. You are one of the best UA-cam hikers out there! 👍
Son, you’ve outdone yourself yet again. What a blast! Incredible variety, beautiful photo work, and contagious joy. And informative. Helpful and practical. The sound quality seems especially good too. Did you change anything?
I have been to a lot of the places you have....BUT....No Way am I going to cross that narrow ridge 😂 !!! Thanks for going where this man will not !! I get to see these places because of you 😁👍
SUV herding of sheep! Haha, you said breathe and I discovered I was holding my breath! Hanging lake is so lovely. Amazing color. Most people in Colorado go up and down the freeways and areas fairly close to them. Wonderful to know there are so many isolated and beautiful places.
wheres your trailer, ????? i was going tell you to install a flex solar panel, from front to back on top to charge your solar generator or batteries, i saw a guy with the same little trailer you have, and he installed 2- 250 watt flex panels on top, each producing 8.85 amps(17.7) amps in bright sunlight. each back into the 2- 12 volt batteries he had in the front of the trailer. he install the carrier basket from harbor freight and weld it down with brackets to hold it in place, in the back he lined the whole back opening with s/s thin sheet for the heat , and installed on the left side a 2 burner stove and on the right a sink. on the mid sides he mounted one on each side 1- each 5 gal. water plastic jug for the sink. in front of the jugs he also installed a s/s piece of steelmetal as a wind deverter when traveling down the road, installed a mall water pump to pump the water out into the sinks.
For me, this was one of your most beautiful and rare videos. That 360 drone shot at Devil's Causeway is such a unique documentary of place and time. Definitely a place worth visiting again. Thanks!
As a mountain guide, I consider your hiking on that route without any protection to be rather sketchy. Certainly you’re right to do whatever you feel you wish and your life but if you’re going to be posting things you might want to say don’t do what I’m doing that is a class for risk area, a small slip and your dead. At least give a cautionary note that no one should be doing what you’re doing. I ask you is it really worth risking dying over the adventure of doing it without a rope or any protection of any kind? If so fine that’s your choice. You’re an adult but if you’re gonna be posting this, you might want to say don’t copy me, this is not what adventures is all about this is about not ending up being alive
I hiked up to hanging lake in the late 80's as the interstate was being built. It was a pull off on the side of the road at the bottom of the creek. We had no idea what we were hiking to. But folks comming down kept saying "keep going, its worth it" They were right. I thought of returning in 2020 durring a trip out and discovered how popular it had becone and decided i couldn't fit the logistics into my schedule. The day after we passed it the canyon caught fire and i had to find a new way home
I've been watching you for awhile now. Out of curiosity you get to some pretty desolate Backcountry spots. have you ever run into a bear or mountain lions?
What an AMAZING hike, but Im not gonna lie. I thought my head was gonna explode when you were using a selfie stick and spinning on that ridge without even looking at your feet. And after telling us that falling would be the last thing anyone would do!?!?! OH MY!!! I can definitely see how this hike would have gotten the adrenalin pumping. As always, please be careful out there! Fantastic video!!!
That was such a beautiful lake and falls. The feeling of being out alone in nature's beauty, like the flat tops, is indescribable. You must experience it yourself. Great job!
Wow, Tristan, an absolutely fantastic hike!! I'm so happy you were able to enjoy both places by yourself even for a short time at the lake and falls. Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful experience!
Wow! Just wow! What beautiful places. Have to admit that my breathing got a bit fast and shallow when you were crossing the Devil's Causeway. Another awesome video. Thanks.
Great stuff. Your drone footage made me pee my pants so I'll avoid that if I ever get up there. Glad you can record it for all of us to enjoy who would otherwise avoid hiking it. The Devils causeway reminded me of The Devils Bridge in Sedona AZ, but don't go there if you want to avoid people.
Really enjoyed this video. My thought during the first part was "Man, this guy is nuts!" I lived in Colorado for 5 years and visited many times since but somehow never made it to Hanging Lake. Thanks for finally taking me there.
Great video! Your footage crossing the causeway was awesome! I also did this hike in Sep only two years ago. I definitely need to go back & explore the Flat Tops some more.
Thanks for sharing another video of nature at its best. You take me places that i would never be able to see (health, age, finances), and i can't tell you how grateful i am. Cheers...
Tristen, What an excellent episode. I actually said WOW out-loud when you came upon the lake and the Causeway! You have nerves of steel. I'd place one foot and immediately be in Vertigo!. This is why you are my favorite channel. You have inspired more of my trips than anything. and while I can't do what you do, I enjoy the places you introduce me too. Cheers my friend
Timing is everything in Colorado. I've lived here since 1956, moving from TX. Sept and Oct are fabulous times, cept weekends, to get out there and hike and camp. Don't miss the drive from Chambers Lake north on hwy 103 to Woods Landing in Wyo. Just awesome areas I think you'd love.

I loved the crazy views you captured with the 360 camera? on the Devil’s CausewayI hope you get to do more in Colorado!

Only a climber could relish the Devil's Causeway the way you do- or maybe Karl Wallenda. I remember when you climbed Mt. Hood a couple of years ago- wasn't there a similar narrow path with major drop offs on both sides? Only I think you were walking on snow that time.
Amazing! We were just in the flat top Wilderness, but on the south/busy end, it’s vast. Thanks so much for sharing. Will have to go back and check out devils Causeway.
Tristan, I didn’t like it at all! Watching you walk across the Devils Causeway gave me terrible sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach! That looked terrifying to me! 😂
That is scary. I could not hike that. It makes me queasy just watching you hike it. You've been to a lot of places like that. Even flying your drone there. Sheesh.
I see the sheep, I immediately think of Chris Ledoux’s ‘Photo Finish’. Listen and you’ll see why. Lol. That ridge line hike and the turning with the drone made me question my intestinal fortitude and your sanity. Another great video.
Too many rules, regulations, people and gov't development for me to go there. But seeing it on SUV RVing is perfect. The Flattop Wilderness is beautiful and then in the middle of all of that flatness there's a knife's edge ridge to curl your toes, LOL. Thanks once again Tristan.
I’m a week late in watching, lol. Thank you for showing us the Devils Causeway and a part of the beautiful Flat Tops Wilderness Area! Hanging Lake looks like a place to visit next year when we visit the Flat Tops.
Very beautiful, you hit the sunrise just right, you sure have great balance! And so nice to have the place to yourself ❤ thanks again for another beautiful video!!!
That was fun .. the causeway looked scary! I hiked Hanging Lake a few years ago and I barely recognized the trail going up; apparently there was a massive flash flood that washed it out a year or two ago. Thanks for the video! Love your adventures!
Oh, man, that's over the top too risky. That's courting death. On a scale of 1 to 10 how much of a risk was this to you personally? For me it would be way beyond a ten!
Devil's Causeway. Right in the heart of my stomping grounds. I was just up there about a month ago. I've crossed it many times over the years and also not crossed it. Kind of depends on my mood and the weather. Even if you're not afraid of heights it can be intimidating. As far as people go, you'll see the vast majority on the way up to the causeway as most do it as an out and back. Once you cross you hardly see anyone until you get down to Mosquito Lake. Even then it's not too bad as that trail is often overlooked. On a side note, there is a seasonal waterfall that can be seen from the Mosquito Lake area that is beautiful. The last clip you showed of the trail as you came down passes fairly close to it. However, there's only a couple of spots along the that section that you can see it from. Great video. I knew exactly where you were as soon as I saw Causeway Lake and the approach to the switchbacks. Next, check out the Zirkel Circle.
Bro, I would have been down on my hands and knees crawling across that ridge. I thought Angels Landing had some narrow spots, but that was 'good grief' kind of narrow.
@suvrving they are called mesas. The geology term is mesa. Plateaus, flat spots etc are fine but the geology term is mesa. Love your show! If you ever need free consulting on field petrology and geologic terms let me know. Happy to help!
I got nauseous with your video of the Devil’s Causeway. Extremely cool, but I have a mortal fear of heights. I soldiered through, and there is no way I’d ever do that in person, so thank you for bringing it to us.
Tristan, I’ve watched nearly all of your videos, but during this one my heart was thumping really hard, seeing you walk along the ridge. You are amazing! Thank you for your wonderful videos.
Thanks for watching!

Not for the faint of Heart. Not my cup of tea.
Too scary for me! Send me into battle, fine. Make me walk the Devil's Causeway? No way!
Mightly fine hiking .I would enjoy this trek. beautiful scenery.
you gotta be certifiably nutz.....LOL...the only way I would walk that is with a parachute
Absolutely love the video and the landscape!! The Devils Causeway is a great big ole Nope for me!! Yeeowch!!
What an incredible sunrise! Thanks for sharing this beautiful area.
It really was! Thanks for watching.
Love Hanging Lake with the tropical atmosphere & breathtaking waterfalls ! Lucky fish 🐠 As for the Devil’s Causeway, I will leave that for you , Tristan. 😊
Tristan, the Hanging Lake outside of Glenwood Springs looks like a miniature of Plitvice Lakes in Croatia.
Such awesome views and waterfalls. Your hiking shoes looks very comfortable and flexible. What is the brand of I may ask?
When you pulled out the camera stick while walking on the Ridge,,,,I had a stomach flip. OMG, too scary to even watch. Be safe out there Tristan!!
Dude I think you discovered the fountain of youth! Lol Just amazing. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for taking one for this team!
Hubby had heebie-jeebies and got light-headed as you tip-toed through the spine.
I found myself tilting my head and body for balance...
Hilocopter, please!
Breathtaking Literally Speaking! You had me holding my breath and then you said “breath” great great adventure Trist!

My six favorite adventure words: I’m STILL the only one here!” 😁👍
great hike, super views, great use of the 360 camera, at first I thought it was drone video. Thanks Tristan...
Great work, sir! We love your channel and content! Keep it up brother!
Will do, as long as you guys keep watching!

You sir, are a GOAT! Not only greatest of all time, but a mountain goat! So sure footed! Hope Cassie doesn't watch this one. 😊
Boy, the statement "Heaven on earth" certainly applies to Hanging Lake; breathtaking.
I’m a week late in watching, lol. Thank you for showing us the Devils Causeway and a part of the beautiful Flat Tops Wilderness Area! Hanging Lake looks like a place to visit next year when we visit the Flat Tops.

Be assured, I will not be doing Devil's Causeway. That nuts!
All those rules are necessary because, otherwise, you'd get a bunch of hollering jerks trampling all over it with jeeps and whatnot
You always ask us to tell you are favorite part…. Well I simply loved it all! Great job! Thank you and appreciate your videos!😊
Bro, I would have been down on my hands and knees crawling across that ridge. I thought Angels Landing had some narrow spots, but that was 'good grief' kind of narrow.
That was terrifying and beautiful! Thank you for taking us along.
Thanks for tagging along!
It kind of looks like an ancient moss covered ruin of one of those walker things from the beginning of Empire Strikes Back.
