Here are the details: According to an official post on Volkswagen Group's website, PowerCo, VW's battery subsidiary, has announced a landmark agreement with QuantumScape to industrialize QuantumScape’s next-generation solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. Upon satisfactory technical progress and certain royalty payments, QuantumScape will grant PowerCo the license to mass-produce battery cells based on QuantumScape’s technology platform. Under the non-exclusive license, PowerCo can manufacture up to 40 gigawatt-hours per year using QuantumScape’s technology, with the option to expand to 80 gigawatt-hours-enough to outfit approximately one million vehicles per year. The companies believe this high-touch engagement represents the fastest way to achieve gigawatt-hour-scale production of solid-state technology to meet the growing global demand for better electric vehicle batteries. This agreement supersedes an earlier joint venture between the Volkswagen Group and QuantumScape to co-manufacture batteries.

“Electric vehicles are the future of mobility, and this agreement with QuantumScape will ensure the Volkswagen Group’s global fleet has access to this groundbreaking battery technology for years to come,” added Thomas Schmall, Volkswagen Group Board Member for Technology. “We are committed to driving the industry forward to ensure that our electric vehicles set the benchmark for excellence and sustainability.”

What I want from an EV: 700 km in cold conditions, Durability at least 10 years or 200.000 km, charging time of 10 minutes. If the battery can do so. Then you want weight loss. Same power less weight and battery space.

Yes, but now its main application is for power station, not EV
Unless I can charge the car in 5 mins. to full and have 450-500 miles of range, then there is no meaningful leap forward in battery technology.
5 mins charging is still a hard thing to do. But 10 to 15 mins is possible, and I see many car makers already did it.
Tesla will mount Quantumscape batteries, since in their respective boards of directors sits a certain J.B. Straubl who is the CEO of Norwood, a company that recycles batteries, thus explaining the circular economy. Elon has never given specifics on Tesla's new batteries because first he has to enter badly as a shareholder in QS and then he will come out with a piece of news that will double Qs shares in a couple of days. This is why the agreement with VW is non-exclusive!
