      I was attacked completely unprovoked by my cousin's pitbull as well. Never showed any signs it would do that, and it knew me from when it was very young. The breed just has a much higher tendency than other dogs to be wired wrong from birth, and it's not surprising. I mean look at what they were bred for and that's all you need to know. Besides statistics. They account for 5% of the dog population yet account for 67% of all fatal attacks. Those numbers do NOT correlate, the breed is a problem.

    it is so humbling to just see these two beautiful ladies and what they have gone through. I have always been a sucker for animals specially dogs, my aunts dog attacked me a few years ago out of nowhere and I remember the fear. Coincidentally in December last year, right before Christmas, my neighbors dog attacked me after I tried to pet him and I almost lost my index finger because of it. Still going through surgeries to return correct the finger but I know that my hand will be deformed for potentially the rest of my life and to think that it could of been my arm or my face, or potentially have killed me. it’s just putting a lot of things into perspective of how blessed/lucky I was and how much we need to value or lives and be more careful, I would go as far as to say I am lucky this happened in this country where I had the medical attention that I’ve had. Thank you soooo so much for sharing your stories. I am truly humbled and appreciative of how everything has played out because it could of been much worse.

      Just looking at the mathematics behind it. Many people lump a lot of dog breeds together into what is classified as a Is "pitbull". There are about eight different breeds that gets mis identified as a pitbowl and then you have the cross breeding and the mutts . When you look at that sheer number of dogs that are lumped together and the popularity of Such dogs you are going to have bigger numbers besides the fact that these dogs are very Strong and their bite is much more damaging than Is that of a smaller dog. Finally the majority of these dogs are not being bred by reputable professional dog breeders.This is a result of all of the backyard breeders who are just breathing dogs to make a quick buck or because they think it would be cute to. Have litters. They have no regard to. Behavioral or medical issues.

They always give you a sign whether you recognise it or not.

    • @Shyringa
      @Shyringa 11 місяців тому +5

      It's all about the right person owning the right kind of dog. Statistically pitbulls do bite more than goldens for example. The difference between a retriver and a terrier is that a retriever used in hunting will retrieve the prey with soft mouth whereas a hunting terrier kills the prey. I think it's very important that pitbull owners understand that they own a big strong terrier. I see so often people defending pitbulls and describing them as "loving, cuddly, caring, not aggressive and a big scaredy-cat if anything" and just completely ignoring what they are bred to do. Bad and abusive dog owners will raise dangerous dogs but I believe it's just as important for good and well-meaning dog owners to understand what type of dog they have and not be ignorant about their dog's nature. If your pitbull is scared it can get very dangerous very fast, just like a husky that is left in a small apartment with all of it's insane amount of energy will be dangerous in the right conditions. A lot of people just don't understand dogs and I think pitbull is the type of dog that NEEDS an owner that truly understands. Caring and well-meaning is not enough.

    • @Ruth78620
      @Ruth78620 11 місяців тому +1

      @Shyringa I've got a patterdale terrier and a boerbol and I'd be more scared of my terrier her prey drive is insane! She is never off leash and I always have her muzzled just incase a child approaches her in the wrong way, a big annoyance of mine is parents letting their kids approach any dog, I think people need to be realistic about their lifestyle when getting a dog. You cant have a pitbull in an apartment and not walk it for at least 2 hours a day. My terrier needs that or she becomes destructive. I've had dogs since I was 8 and I'm now 44 and the breeds I have are not for first time owners.

      I’m sorry that this is long but the beginning of your statement is (respectfully) a stupid mentality to have against a dog breed 😂
      I’m sorry to burst your bubble but no not every dog was originally bred to be lap dogs in the first place. Many dogs were originally bred to be hunters & protectors. Even though that isn’t the case anymore nowadays many people still use those type of animals to train to protect their children & themselves because they have a higher training level that can be worked with better compared to idk a Chihuahua. Other dogs of the “hunting” breed are also used as service animals for the handicapped & used in police force.
      To say that pit bulls are “inherently” bad is somewhat stupid because they were ORIGINALLY made to hunt, but now we’re trying to make them into lap dogs with no training of self-control. So technically it’s our fault these hunting animals have become the way they are. Also EVERY DOG is able to harm a human being. Just because a pit bull did this doesn’t mean every animal attack is done by a pit bull.
      It’s not because of the dog. It’s because of the owners behind this animals and their lack of self-awareness towards this kind of breed that made this horrible situation. YALL need to recognize that HALF OF THE ENTIRE DOG SPECIES were never originally made to be house pets they were a,d ego be some type of hunting a animal. And so when you force these kinds of animals in a new environment & mindset all at once they cannot change their genetic traits that made them hunters, that is why if you do want to own this type of pet you NEED to take the correct actions to make sure the animal is well trained.
      It’s not about how good a dog is at being a pet on day 1. It’s about the inherent traits that creates the dogs that we need to be aware of and need to be treated responsibly. It’s not the dogs fault for doing what it was bred to do. It’s the media’s & breeders faults for not advising stricter training and self-awareness on potential dangers of owning such a breed.

There is nothing naturally contributing to a pit bulls aggression. They are just used because of their size and their ability to ignore their own pain Also, there is no nationwide system to actually follow dog breeds specific bites. If you knew anything about dog breeds in general, Pit Bulls in specific have a "faulty wiring" in their brains. There are many dog breeds that can flip on a dime. The German Sheppard, Malinois, Chow Chow, Malamute, etc. But the Pit Bull, they are notoriously known for being very unpredictable. When you have 2 or more in the same location, there is a higher risk of them snapping. Its just the way the breed is. You can have the best trained dog with zero abuse or whatever and that dog can flip a switch. I've been in the animal medical field for years and have seen many "attacks" myself. My coworker just Thursday dealt with a pit mix and German Sheppard, in which she put the dog on the scale, fed treats, took its temperature, zero signs of aggression, but when she went to bend down slightly to pet the dog, the animal jumped up and bit her in the face. Its not always the humans fault. This is an animal and they can flip a switch at any time. Always tread with caution with animals because you never know.
