This is just what I needed to hear today. Finally someone gave comprehensive info for lo po's. I like that you broke down the ingredients. My hair is thriving on aloe vera. I have adopted a less is more attitude towards my haircare.A few weeks àgo i realised I am listening to people give hints for type 4 c and I am a lo po, thin, fine 3b. So I have been overdoing the products.. Since going lighter, I did an experiment this week. Just shampooed, no conditioner or prepoo or styler, , air-dry and my hair was still soft and shiny. Lots of frizz, cos that's just how my hair is. IL I went back later and dampened and dc'd. Once a month I will do this experiment or when I try something new. Thats how I will see if my products and routine are effectively moisturising my hair.i make my own styling gel and it contains oil and I concocted my own leave-in( cos diy is my tjing and also I am in S/Africa and I cannot afford the products for curlies as most are imported and local stuff is also expensive and not for my hair type and porosity).
Hey there! I love experimenting as well!! I’m so glad you found what works for your hair! Less is more - especially for fine curlies! S Africa is on my bucket list 😜
This is quite interesting. Thank you for the visual and mental pictures you’ve painted for us so-to-speak. When when you said, “Rinse it off” in reference to rising my out the grape seed oil or the jojoba oil, did you mean just using water or using shampoo too?
Great video. I’m Indian and we mostly have frizzy hair. Recently found out I had high porosity hair. All my life I struggled with my hair. They get tangled in seconds, felt like plastic after wash despite oiling. I absolutely dreaded them. Recently I’ve switched to a natural shampoo, and I’m learning the important of locking in moisture. I’ve realised that my hair porosity decreases on wash day and significantly increased later, but when oiled, the same decreases quickly. But oiling also weighs down the hair and gives a greasy look so I’m experimenting with moisturising and locking in. Please share some scalp nourishing oils for high porosity hair. As most Indians , I’ve used mustard seed oil in my hair but it’s too heavy and it’s not doing anything for my hairfall, in fact it only seems to cause more of it…

I've been growing gray ever since I was 16 (family trait) and now I am 57 and my hair is white. I have healthy natural; however, about two months ago I got a Keratin treatment because my hair was so unmanageable. That was a disaster as I went in with a bob haircut that flowed around my chin and came out with hair that was evenly cut towards the middle of my ears (I only asked for my ends to be dusted off, but I got a hair cut). I was devastated as I looked like an OLD lady with bone straight hair. Now, I'm wearing a wig everyday and it's breaking my hair off. I don't know what to do anymore and I'm quite depressed. Hello Karen, much appreciation from Kenya. Just discovered your channel and have subbed immediately! However I have two challenges. 1. Hey there! So sorry you are experiencing tenderness. In terms of the heat damage, if you've washed your hair, and gave yourself a protein treatment and the hair is still straight, I am sure it is heat damage. Typically heat damage is more pronounced in top and front of the hair. And you can't reverse it, but I suggest you gradually trim it off. In terms of your scalp, its a bummer that the dermatologist did not give you an actual diagnosis. The cream was more than likely to reduce the inflammation of the scalp. Inflammation is an internal challenge. How's your diet? Are you dealing with any other inflammatory or even autoimmune challenges within your body? Are you applying anything else to your scalp?
@@KarenofCurlHouse Thanks Karen for the response. For the heat damage I have started the trimmings. This was my first trim, I took off almost an inch and a half of the ends of my hair and I will probably have to continue that way till the issue resolves. As for my diet I just make sure that I have portions of meals from the 3 food groups. What I could be overdoing is probably wheat in my breakfast, I always have wheat products. I do not have any diagnosed autoimmune or inflammatory conditions. As for the scalp I usually apply concocted oils,I do peppermint, castor olive and some bit of coconut.

Hey there! You can do 1/2 cup of aloe vera juice; 1/2 cup of water; and a teaspoon of glycerin -- put into a spray bottle (it only lasts about a week and keep refrigerated). Or you can take any rinse out conditioner -- take 3oz and mix with 8oz of water, and this can you use as a daily moisturizer. Hope this helps!

Hey there! Great question! I know these terms are used interchangeably, but there is a slight difference between the two. Hydration does equal water like you said. And hydration really focuses on the inner layers of hair (medulla or cortex) or keeping the inner layers (which is also the strongest parts of your hair) hydrated. Moisturizers are really about locking it in that hydration with products that contain, in addition to water -- humectants, emollients, oils and other ingredients to keep your hair hydrated longer. Boy that was LONG! LOL! Hope it makes sense! Maybe i will create a video about it.
My hair hates water!!! So, what am i doing wrong. Adding water (or products with high water content) to my hair causes it to poof up, become tangled and snap very very easily. Again, what is going wrong and what can I do???
Hey Yardley! When you add water, do you twist it or braid it, or do curl definition? Do you have any color in your hair? What is your signature style? You may have high porosity hair. High porosity hair can become frizzy pretty quickly because it take up and releases water pretty quickly.
@@KarenofCurlHouse Thanks for the reply. I would normally add a cream or butter but before I can it poofs up and I can't manage it. I am a 'lazy' natural and I normally wear my hair straight (silk press) or in canerows or flat twists. I used to be low porosity but now menopausal and thinking my porosity has changed.
I am confuse because most of every hair product,The first ingredient is water so even if it is a curling cream and the first ingredient is water,Could you use that as a moisturizer? Also if you use a curling cream and it first ingredient is water and you applied to your hair can you apply it to your hair dry or does the hair need to be wet since the first ingredient is WATER I would think I would not have to spray my hair with WATER because that first ingredient is water.?
Hey there! Great question! So generally speaking, curling creams or 'styling products' do contain ingredients (water being the first) that help to moisturize the hair. However, depending on the product, these products contain other ingredients that help to lock in the curls in place, and these ingredients may not be moisturizing. Most 'leave in conditioners or moisturizers' are formulated specifically to moisturize the hair. There are some products that may double as a stylers and moisturizers, but again, many times styling products main purpose is to lock in the style. In terms of your question regarding spraying your hair, depending on the product, you don't have to necessarily spray your hair with water if using a water based curling cream, but when the hair is wet or damp, you may get a more defined curl prior to applying the styling product. Gosh that was long...LOL! 😂 Let me know if it makes sense!
@@KarenofCurlHouse yes I understand now I had to read it a couple of times to comprehend it lol 🥰so what you are saying is that most curling creams even though they are water-based their main function is to lock the curls in place to style the hair, and those ingredients may not be moisturizing unless I was to purchase a product that was a Moisturizing cream plus a styler so I can spray water in my hair which will help define the curl but I don’t have to?
Many times oils under curl defining products mainly gels can make the hold of the gel softer or less firm, but this too depends on the gel that you use as well, and the oil. You can opt for a lighter oil if you are going to do a wash n go.

Hi Karen. I got this just in time. I'm very depressed about my hair. My natural hair really takes some getting used to, but I don't like it! I actually hate my 4C hair! Right now I wish I had never been born!!! 😭😭😭
Oh Luwanna! I saw your other message! So glad you are praying 🙏 I will keep you in my prayers as well. I will reach out via email soon.

Please don't say that. God created you for a purpose in life and not because of your hair. Don't let your hair define you. You need to discover what works best for you and your hair type. You have touched so many people in your lifetime because of your existence. You probably don't even realize it.
If you ever need to talk I am here. Maybe we can discover hair tips together.
Have a blessed day and know that you are loved. 🙏

I’m sorry to hear how you are feeling depressed. Please know that you don’t have to go through this alone and there are resources that can help you .
Esp if your depression is not only related to your hair
So confusing.
So sorry you were confused. Anything I can provide clarity on?
Excellent information! Thanks, professional, for sharing!
