Off topic, I like the closer set up this time. Less dead space in the middle, no giant mics covering them, a bit of textured different coloured background. This is a better set up than the last vid with Sam, in my opinion.

I thought Michael returned? I changed the channel after five minutes of listening to just ranting. It was like an echo chamber. Whereas Michaels personality was a good counterpoint to Christians. Hodinkee just did a vid with Bivet where he talked about how Jayz put Hublot into the hip hop collective consciousness, without any collaboration from the brand. I get the sense he’s always a guy who kind of marches to his own beat with style and watches.

I'm sure there are more, but these bars always stuck out to me knowing Jay-Z is an elite watch collector.
I enjoyed the video but at 30:00... it was a little cringe (as the young people say) because it felt like he was justifying putting down LeBron by saying "but I am boosting Jay -Z" who is of a similar culture... along with that coming out after the John Mayher comment. Now I know from watching this channel for years he loves Jay-Z but anybody who is knew would not know that. I wonder did he get flack from bashing LeBron so bad? 🤔

Being a billionaires is strange. You have guys like Jay Z who wear watches that cost anywhere from 10K to 8 million and then you have guys like Bill Gates that wear a $50 Casio and he is worth atleat 50x more than Jay. Its like, after a certain point, the biggest flex is not trying to flex, so you come back to square one.

I truly feel a perpetual calendar is a single watch collection watch. If I owned one, it would mean I am done with almost all watches save maybe one additional in the collection.
No one is going to say that the perpetual datejust is, technically, a fake watch? Ive seen them roast ordinary people for much less mods

I'm sure Sam is a nice guy but I don't think he belongs in these videos. He doesn't really have a perspective or anything to add (I don't know if he's not familiar with Patek but my point still stands). He spent the whole video going "yeah", "okay" and "mmhmm", or just reprhasing a point that's already been made. Its like just hearing someone make unneeded ambient noise when its really not needed. I'll be skipping videos that Sam is in, sorry. Just my opinion.

Did Jay-Z ever wear a watch that is not hype? He just follows the hype and he has money more than anyone else so he can buy whatever he wants. I don’t see him ever starting any trends. He just follows trend.
I think the Reverso is the most important one here for revealing his taste. I could see an argument that the first two are still just "flexing", but on a bit of a higher level, because he's in circles where the hype watches are so common he needs to get into the super unique stuff to stand out, or to show his peers that they can't get what he has. The Reverso really underlines this isn't his motivation, and it's likely that he has those watches because he likes them and wears them with genuine intent and passion, not just to be different or special or as assets.

Dont forget Jay used to wear a lot of Hublot watches in 2010-15, even had its own spécial édition and his wife bought him a 5M$ Big bang 😂 but as every collector his taste evolved, and in the right way !

If I recall correctly, Frank Muller modified the Rolex movement to make it a perpetual calendar. So, the movement is still Rolex with some additional calendar parts. Ordinarily, modifications to a watch could warrant it being called fake or a frankenwatch but I wouldn't place this watch in that category. This is a very cool unique piece even if it wasn't completed by the Rolex manufacture.

Jay seems to be more intentional with his collection. He was talking about a lot of those brands before it was cool to wear those brands. Bron, on the other hand, seem to be more like Adam from Maroon 5. He's rich and has money to throw around, and he has been rich for a long time, but you didn't see him wear these watches back in the days while Jay was rapping about them in the 2000s
