I have a Garden way pony, smaller tiller, maybe older, a bit finicky but it still tills. Oats and field peas are another good cover crop that can give ya a little nitrogen.
I think when I bought mine there were options for a 6-7-8hp at that time I had a IHC cub cadet lawn mower with a Kohler engine and it gave good service so thats why I got 7 hp, Briggs also makes a great engine
Man, we started the same thing 3 years ago. Compacted clay in an acre field. And you aint lying about how hard and how much time it takes. But we are doing it anyway. Your garden looks great! Clay is hard to work, but nothing better for retention of moisture and nutrients which are hard to come by sometimes. I dont think a soil test can say anything but you need nitrogen :)
@@randallstrickland8204 looking at old motor i had the 6hp techumseh, the 7 is usually a kohler, the first few years had a smaller square gas tank on left side
@@randallstrickland8204 ok good. We might try those next year. We have the better bush (this is the first year for us on those). We normally do jet stars but they have not been good for us.

Looks great Randall! Do you silage tarp the garden between seasons to suppress weeds? Fellow farmer. Keep uploading👍🏽
Thank you. No but I planted rye and red clover and there was no room for weeds over the winter
I have a 38 year old 8hp Troybilt Horse with a Briggs & Stratton engine - great machine.
